    I want it because it’s supposed to work, I will turn it off once it’s working. But I paid for the option I want the ability to use if I want to. Because like someone else said… if that’s not working… I start thinking what else is not working or about to not be working…

    I just bought a 2017 Ford Escape SE FWD 2.0L ecoboost. My eng auto stop / start wasnt working. I fixed it myself. Here is what i did to fix the problem:
    1. Replace battery to bring the voltage up. Reset the ford BMS.
    2. Replace your EVAP purge valve canister.
    3. Make sure your eng auto stop button is not pressed to the OFF setting
    IF you are running an older battery that starts your engine just fine, (and you dont replace your battery with a new one) turn off your AC or Heat and radio). Eng auto stop / start needs the battery at a minimum voltage to work.

    lol! One of the first things I did after buying my 2019 Escape was go into the settings and disable that pain in the butt function. I find the auto stop and start feature annoying enough where I'm willing to sacrifice a tiny amount of gas mileage keep it shut off. Good job with the diagnosis.

    After a recent routine service my auto stop/start stopped working. It took dumb me about a week to notice how nice the car was running when I realized, duh, it's not stopping anymore! I called my local dealer and they said not to worry so I guess I'll live with this nice new feature called, the motor works consisitantly. Now I'll go back to monitoring my coolant jug.

    The main thing I hate about auto start stop on my ranger is when I'm backing in my driveway. As soon as I stop to put my truck in reverse, it shuts off, only just to start back up, once it knows what I'm doing.

    A possibility not usually encountered. Actual use of the car for "short" periods in duration (time) of 20/30 minutes in duration every so many days over a period of years can draw a battery down and shorten the overall lifespan of a battery. Another would be the vehicle sitting for long periods (30 days) without being started (no trickle charger attached) can also draw a battery down. Finding out how the car is used by the Svc Wryrr IS key for diagnostic purposes.......

    The auto start stop feature works great for me. Why have a vehicle idling unnecessarily? I live in a rural area with infrequent long stoplights. If I was driving in a large city I can see how it would be annoying.

    I smelled something that smelled really bad, like burned rubber as I was driving down the road, and the start stop feature stopped working. I live in Georgia and it was fall. It wasn’t too cold or too hot outside. My vehicle is still under warranty and the battery is fine. I have to make an appointment to see a “specialist” Ford says. I’m going in to Ford next week.

    My 22' Maverick has an Instrument Cluster Display "Screen" called Auto StartStop. One time last winter, it showed me that it was too cold outside and wouldn't let the StopStart system activate when i was in a drive thru. I have the Lariat so i might be able to see more info on the larger Instrument screen. I have had the privilege to drive a 19' Ranger at work every once in awhile and it's Auto StopStart system has a much longer delay before it allows the engine to stop.
    Lastly, imo, the whole industry is saying it wrong. It should be StopStart because it only works when the engine is already running, so it Stops first then Starts. Everyone is saying it in the wrong order by saying StartStop

    Really happy I came across this video. My auto start/stop isn’t working today for the first time. The icon is grey and as I see it could be for a number of reasons. I thought maybe it was because the car wasn’t up to temperature (seeing that I woke up to snow on top of the car this morning) so I thought that had something to do with it. However after driving about 30 miles just now I figured the car should be up to temp by now and still the icon is grey so what should I do ? I’m that guy that wants it there haha. I just like know that my car is working just how I left it.

    • @corsterthegreat
      @corsterthegreat 2 года назад

      I had this issue on mine, and charging the car battery with an external charger got it working again. If yours is a brand new model it may have a secondary battery dedicated to start stop, mine doesn't.
      One of the criteria the Ford system uses to activate auto start stop is a battery state of charge of 80% or higher, though the car will still start fine far below that.
      If you have an OBDII reader and Forscan you can check exactly why your feature isn't activating.

    "This guy wants it working."
    Well, after paying about $40,000 for mine, yeah, I kind of understand why he'd want everything to be working like it should too. Especially before the 3-yr warranty runs out.
    Lately, mine's been not running as expected either, and it's been considerably warmer out (like, around 30-40F, not 15-25F). I've only had mine for a couple of months before I noticed it stopped working -- which is why I found this video too. The dash has the A symbol that says it is enabled but didn't engage, and the book manual says something about the information panel is supposed to give the reason why, but I can't find that bit of data.

    Any 2018 Ford Escape owners come across an issue during the winter time with moisture/condensation building up on the interior of the windshield? The vehicle does not have any water leaks (Carpets and Headliner is dry to the Touch). The Heater core shows no leaks, the cabin filter was replaced and that was dry as well. The issue from the moisture is causing a mildew smell in the cabin and it is driving me insane. I've installed some of those Moisture absorbing packs, but is not helping the issue. I have two other vehicles also parked outside and they do not have this issue.

    So I have a 2017 Ford Escape that had the major Ecoboost Engine problem where the coolant was leaking into the oil. After almost a year in and out of the Ford dealership and 10 rental cars later, they gave me a new Engine and multiple flywheels. So about a month after I got the car back, I noticed my auto stop/start quit working. So I took it back in. Ford had it for 6 days and could not figure it out. I was very frustrated. So I just left it that way.

    Today auto start failed to start, on a steep hill. When I released the brake, the truck (2019 f150) did not restart. I had no power brakes or steering and the dash told me to put it in park and restart (as I almost collided with the car in front of me - I practically stood on the brakes and barely stopped before hitting) so in this situation, the auto start failing almost caused a collision (that I would have been "at fault" for. It failed again to start on flat ground on the way home. If there's a way to disable this system aside from pushing that button on the dash, I'm all for it.

    GM Autostop vehicles have a whole screen of parameters dedicated to the Autostop Disable/Enable reasons (I wonder if Ford does). Anyways this is a list of probably 50 Yes/No parameters that all have to read the correct value (yes or no) before the engine will Autostop. Some of them are pretty obvious what they mean like "Autostop Disabled AC On" or "Brake Pedal Not Applied" or "Battery State Of Charge" but others are annoyingly vague like "ECM Requested Disable". So like you said there's a lo of things that goes into making it actually Auto Stop.

    Interesting on the "not enough pressure in the brake line" to trigger it. My auto start/stop hasn't worked for quite a while. Last time I had my oil changed, Jiffy Lube said my brake fluid was a little low. But the Ford techs at the dealership just told me my brake system looks normal. Wonder if they could be related?

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  Год назад +1

      So when your brake fluid gets low that is a good indication that one of two things is happening there's a leak which is not common or your brake pads are actually wearing and you need to pay attention to the brake pad health, the most common thing is that when brake pads wear down some and the fluid drops you can look at your capacity in your Reservoir and see that you're dropping load and think oh wait I need to check the brakes my fluid is getting low and most of the time you need some type of brake work done so when Jiffy Lube seen your brake fluid low they should have recommended some type of brake job

    I hate auto stop/start. my fusion used to do that. At a stop light I would have my ac on and it would shut it off even when its 90 degrees outside. After 5 seconds of my ac being off it would start to get humid in my car, because of the humidity since I live in florida. So I finally had enough of it and had it permanently disabled through a program, my friend used on his f150 EcoBoost. I just don't know why ford and other automakers don't give you an actual option to permanently disable the thing through the dashboard menu.

    That auto start/stop feature seems to be a major nuisance especially if you have ever had the misfortune of driving a car that stalls out in traffic.. that is what it seems like to me. I have test driven a vehicle with that "feature" and feel that it just adds a lot of uneccessary stress to the whole vehicle engine, ignition and its systems.. would never buy something with that nuisance installed.
    I have watched a few of your videos so far and love what you do, you really seem to know your stuff and it is really nice in this day and age where there's a whole lot of "not so bright" people out there that think they know anything and everything under the sun. I won't put you up on a high pedestal because I also understand we are all human and prone to making mistakes.. I am just saying it's refreshing to find a capable and competent, straight forward individual. I personally prefer to deal with someone that can make a mistake, recognize it and work to improve it over somebody that makes mistakes, doesn't care to improve from that and demands others deal with their blatant mistakes and accept it.. doubles down and then is an azzhole about it.
    As a former Ford owner (2017 Edge SEL AWD 3.5 Duratec, nobody has ever described the differencr between the Ecotec and Duratec to me) purchased brand new, I have some real doozies to tell about my experiences with the company.. they are an absolute joke, a nightmare of a company to deal with on any level. My issues started before the ink dried on the paperwork, the very next day after I drove off their lot.. so you might see some of my complaints in your comments. I will try to keep them to a minimum. I owned that vehicle for almost 4.5 years and logged a little over 44k miles on it. I really loved it despite some of the issues I had and had purchased it with all intentions of keeping it until I ran it into the ground. But nonetheless I was losing about half of the coolant (no explanation and no traces of it in the oil.. but I could smell heavy coolant on really hot days with a/c running) from the reservoir about every 4-6 months and researching the "milkshake" issue when the water pump may fails, I reluctantly decided to get rid of it last Summer.
    My first brand new car experience was completely soiled by that company, incompetence on every level and I can now clearly see the position you service technicians were put in.. I will never buy brand new ever again (or a Ford) thinking I have a warranty to depend on.. I will drive a 25 year old Toyota rust heap before that ever happens. You may know one name in particular but I won't mention it here.
    Also I had that fluttering/rattling sound that came from the passenger side door/window, dash area, it was intermitent which baffled me.. I just now saw you mention that particular issue in another video. I chalked it up as maybe a plastic body vent somewhere with wind surging through rubber baffles.
    Nonetheless love your work, love the content and I will now subscribe.

    Hey there sir! Great video. Question for ya. I have a 2018 Ford Escape I bought new. The engine off work for two years and I just recently took it to my local repair shop and they replaced the battery. It worked for a few days not doesn’t work anymore. I am meeting the parameters on the Escape for it to work but I don’t believe they reset the BMS when they replaced the battery. Could this be the issue? It was a $500 invoice with labor and the battery so I want it working. Any ideas? Thanks!

    my '18 escape auto stop start stopped working had the battery replaced and bms reset it worked fine for a while but last 2 times driving it hasn't worked. Almost wondering if it needs to be driven more often and for longer duration. I have a 50 mile round trip to work and I split driving duties between my Escape and smart fortwo. Today's been the first time I driven the Escape in 3 days almost, it usually gets 2 or 3 long drives a week and plenty of in town driving ( I know short trips don't charge batteries) . On my way back home in the morning if it doesn't work, I'm going to tender the battery. Do I have to do BMS resets after tending the battery ?Thanks

    • @howling69
      @howling69 2 года назад

      As I suspected, the auto stop start didn't work because the battery wasn't fully charging because I hadn't driven it for a few days before . On my way into town from work, it started to engage again. solution for me is just to keep driving it since it has a new battery.

Fog light stay on when you put high beam on. Auto stop start disabled. I don't mind the changes but the auto stop start is giving trouble were sometimes it will shut off and not go on again... this happens when stopped at a light of even sitting in park I had it at local ford dealer but they can't figure it out because there's no code on the computer... but when it shut off a message pops off that says manual start required... any idea what could be wrong ??

    I have a question about the BMS reset. I would like to thank you in advance if you are able to read this!
    Sorry if I don't explain this well, but my husband jumped his motorcycle with my 2017 escape, and pretty soon after I started getting random electric issues. My passenger side blinker has gone out for both front and back, they don't work for any of the other functions they are used for either (flashing when you lock the car, when the back hatch shuts, etc). The start stop doesn't work at all, my remote start through the app sometimes says it can't start the car, I've had the check engine light come on randomly, but then go off without doing anything to troubleshoot, and sometimes the screen resets while driving. Now I have read these issues can be fixed by resetting the BMS, does that sound likely and can this be done at an auto part store or at home? My main concern is the turn signal not working. We did a scan and saw no codes (it's possible that it wasn't read right since the scan was done at home not by a mechanic.) If a BCM reset doesn't work, is there something else that can be replaced like a signal relay? We checked all the fuses and the bulbs, they all seem fine.
    I totally get you probably have gotten hundreds of questions, and appreciate any time or help you may give me!

    • @FordBossMe

      If you're trying to do all the work yourself you're going to have to research online and try to find how to reset the battery monitor sensor without a scan tool I don't know how to do that because I use a scan tool all the time

    Auto start is literal bs. Your not really saving anything. Why? The customer and other drivers attitudes. It’s a system that requires a perfect world. That’s why. After driving with auto start once. I turned it off. Because a situation happened where I had to gun it to avoid being hit. If you remember carb cars it Almost felt like flooding the motor and gunning it while starting. Is bad for the motor. Luckily. The motor only hesitated. After that. I showed the wife how to turn that thing off. The moron who missed us hit the f150 next to us who’s auto start hadn’t started as fast as ours.

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  3 года назад +2

      I know people don't like AutoStart stuff I get it but taking it to the technician or the dealer doesn't solve anything, what people need to do is take it with the manufacturer. I get attacked all the time because I talk about people disabling or messing with their Auto start-stop and I have to educate people on why that's screws with us as technicians when we have to diagnose things and then they get upset.
      If people have concerns with the auto start-stop you take it up with the manufacturer not the dealer and not the technician.... don't make your concern their problem when you should be making the manufacturer the main listener.
      Now my personal opinion - I hate it and it's useless and a little tip to you or anybody else is if you actually let the battery go dead a few times it will offset the battery minder and the auto start-stop won't work now you didn't hear that from me and won't come back on until the battery monitor is reset which doesn't cause any drivability concern.
