  • Cole stepping down from beef and winding down ready to drop "The Fall Off" Drake and Kendrick clashing for that number 1 spot it really feels like the final war arc in an anime.
    Who do you think will be the next big 3? Or do you agree hiphop will never be the same?

    I think the thing about Biggie vs Tupac is that a 1v1 rivalry is always more compelling in terms of the narrative you can weave around it. When we talk about their feud, you almost never hear Jay Z or Nas get brought up alongside them, it almost dilutes or detracts from the mythos that surrounds these two legends, even though Jay Z and Nas are legends in their own right.
    I think in a few years time, once the industry has shifted again, we'll see a similar trend towards the "1v1" story that feels more personal, and people can relate to better than the industry-wide civil war that seems to be exploding rn.

    • @wait_in_gold_ON_SPOTIFY
      @wait_in_gold_ON_SPOTIFY 24 дня назад +6

      Nah, it’s because Tupac and Biggie ended more climatically. Nas and Jay was a great beef, but they’re friends nowadays

    • @datamale
      @datamale 24 дня назад +1

      @@wait_in_gold_ON_SPOTIFY Yeah, the fact that their beef killed them both definitely adds to the myth. Drake probably isn't THAT desperate to be number 1, though, and neither is Kendrick, from what I can tell.

    • @zeniyuhh
      @zeniyuhh  24 дня назад +3

      Yeah I agree, Kanye even said himself "there's always 2 at the top" and I think that narrative just makes more sense. I think 2010's-20's hiphop will defo be looked back on as it's own unqiue era that had a lot going on in terms of hiphop possibly struggling to claim an indentity.

    • @datamale
      @datamale 24 дня назад +2

      @@zeniyuhh I think it's also interesting that we're currently shifting towards more contemplative, "sensitive" conscious rappers in the top ranks, but beefs are still so prevalent.
      It's like a cultural remnant that rap can't quite shake off, and I wonder if it ever will.
      Maybe rappers will compete to be the most sensitive, IDK. Call that "Beyond beef".

    • @ICE-uu5ct
      @ICE-uu5ct 5 дней назад

      If it was a back and forth of just lyrics he most definitely would’ve been in it. But after these last couple of days, with the reports vandalism of Stores that sell OVO merch and one of Drake’s Homes being shot at leaving his bodyguard in a horrible state, J Cole was right to leave this battle. Maybe another time in the future, a chance to show his lyrical ability may come, but this time just wasn’t it as this beef is spiraling into something else completely.

    The most popular isn’t necessarily the best. Look at Conor mcgregor for instance. I wish someone like Lupe would emerge from depths and give them all a schooling but society is beyond wordiness now. Articulation in rap is no longer championed.

    Hip-hop will never be the same, the only two after the big 3 I can think of are Future and maybe Nicki Minaj. Travis Scott is probably the last rap superstar we'll have for a long time. Hip-hop will likely branch off into more sub-genres, and rappers will be more labeled by their skill and commercial success than cultural impact.

    Wayne (who was the biggest rapper in the world in 2008 and 2009 til Drake dropped So Far Gone) was the one who passed the torch to Drake. Mind you Young Money was also the biggest rap group in Hip-hop at the time. People were buying their merch like G-Unit back in the day.
    Soon as I heard Drake, I knew he was different. Same to Cole when he dropped Who dat. Kendrick took some time to grow on me but GKMD was the one that cemented it 4 me. While I followed Tyler, Travis & Future back then, they still sounded more like "another rapper" as opposed to "The rappers" of that time. Big Sean and at one point B.O.B had more claim to the "up next" title than the aforementioned.
