no album could ever pull me into and then out of my depression like mr morale and the big steppers did. when it came out, i felt like it was almost made for me, the subject matter and songs fit very well with where i was in my life. rediscovering childhood traumas and letting deep-seated shit boil over until i almost unalived. then i had to relearn to love myself, forgive myself, 100 times.

the fact that Kendrick started at 13 and only really debut in the mainstream at 25 shows why hes able to draw numbers like he does -- that time meant practice, work, skill. meanwhile, new rappers barely have a year of trying and theyre getting catapulted to the mainstream, where it becomes apparent they have no skill, determination or patience. thats why hip hop has an aging problem. the gatekeepers are gone so the new crop are not being weeded out for only the best

I’ve heard of Kendrick, but I’ve never really cared for hip hop or rap. Over time, I’ve found some artists I like but Kendrick only hit my radar when the beef with Drake blew up. I loved his diss tracks and almost left it at that.
Then I listened to Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. To this day, I have never felt more understood or seen. Every single track connected to me in such a way, that even though our lives were different and I’ve never met him, this man is a kindred spirit. DAMN hit so close to home as well in that same torturous way.
Kendrick Lamar did something very few people in my life have done: remind me that even at my worst, I am not alone. Even now, there is hope to change.

One day people will see the beauty of Mrs.Morales and the big steppers. I see people saying that it's not at the same level as the rest, but I strongly disagree. This album is a work of art that you may or may not be lucky enough to discover how great it is. One day you go through something, and when you listen to the songs on this album you realize how great it is. I really hope that all of you reading this will understand the beauty of this album one day.

    • @TheWorld-MyOyster
      @TheWorld-MyOyster 7 месяцев назад +3

Key words to emphasize though: *a work of ART*
You’re correct, Kendrick is a pure *artist* in every sense of the word - artistic genius though, is not the same as *rap* genius, that’s the issue that hip hop purists have with this topic. Kendrick does *NOT* meet the mark of what a rap purist would define as the greatest or most skilled rapper, he’s a talented rapper for sure, his pen is highly respectable most definitely, but he is, by far, not the best to ever do it nor does he come close to having what could be considered an untouchable or even nearly untouchable pen.
Like I said in another comment, Michael Jackson is regarded as untouchable artistic musical royalty, but he has never been regarded as being an untouchable singer when talking about technical skill, or even range vocally.
Creative genius and technical skill are 2 entirely different things and that’s where y’all take the wrong turn in these conversations cause y’all are classing them as being the synonymous when that couldn’t be further from reality.

kendrick is one of the only rappers that has already avoided many of the materialism downfalls, but feels a responsibility. something most artists or rappers ever try. A kanye, or a drake, both have put off responsibilities and have went to the absurd, and meanwhile I see kendrick sit with rick rubin, just talking quietly and calmly.
He represents a much higher part of spirituality and walking the boring long-term sucessful route. Kendrick will never stop improving if it goes like that. I can't think of a single rapper that has been to de-materialize the matters of their life and move within themselves and stay consistent with it. it's amazing. he is winning but it ain't glamourous. he's just a good study of life in general.

Kendrick’s lyrical ability, storytelling, wordplays, metaphores r amazing. Plus his last album is a whole therapy, he shows that he’s a great artist too next to his rap abilities. He represents right now, what rap means. His music is and his legacy legendary. 🐐💙🙌🏻

He’s definitely a descriptive lyricist and I’d even go as far as saying an artistic genius, but he’s not even close to being the greatest rapper. I hate to assume, but if these are your metrics for a what it means to be a skillful lyricist in rap, then it seems to me that you really don’t have enough of a foundational understanding or wealth of knowledge of technical ability in rap/hip hop to to draw from when it comes to having a GOAT discussion…

@@Adri_Unsung Grammys don't mean 💩 nowadays. I know Kdot already has an overall better career than Hov but if Kenny retired tomorrow, his legacy would still NOT be as ICONIC as those of Jay-Z and Nas. This Drake beef nonsense is the perfect platform for him to shoot into global mainstream relevance and become a household name, therefore finally becoming as iconic as he already deserves to be.

I remember being a preteen and my parents played a lot of Kendrick, I couldn’t remember the name of the song but I always had the words “every morning when I wake up, uh” play in my head. Literally took years before I looked it up and saw it was the recipe, I checked out the whole album and that genuinely changed my perspective on rap, storytelling, and how to understand an album

A pulitzer? I needed to stop the video to google it and im stunned. It is the most amazing things what I saw.
Im ashamed of myself not learn English earlier so I can understand the lyrics back than.
Edit here: Pio's Place said in his video that "there is life B.E Euphoria, and A.D Euphoria" And man I watched your video what made before that, and it is still portraying a man who can and will create savage, core shattering diss tracks, what reached my metal head, and made me go back to his early work, finally with the skill of understanding him.

This made me respect Dot even more, but also Push bc he understood the 'control' verse. The only ppl that should have felt offended (but really shouldn't but I'll give it to them) we're ppl that weren't named ( *cough* Lupe 😂😂😂). For Drake to become a lil 304 over that verse is what birthed what were seeing today.....Aubrey and his lack of self-control over his emotions will always his downfall.

this is the best structured video essay about an artist i’ve ever seen. regardless of him being your favorite artist (mine too) i heard not one ounce of bias nor any overharsh criticism to outweigh it. i’ve been trying to explain to my friends how kendrick’s discography is untouchable by any for the past year now, even more so after the disses, but now i can just send them this video.

His song "I" was part of what saved my life after everything fell apart.
I was homeless, heartbroken, hungry, cold, and had long given up.
The first time i heard it, it destroyed me.
But i listened to it like my theme song and slowly gained the will to give a shit.
Its why i even gave the relationship that got me off the street a chance.
Its why i didn't give up after 100's of failed applications.
Enjoying all of his music after that just came natural
Its a weird combination but Kendrick Lamar's music and Gintama saved my life.

I grew up in south central, Watts “ The Garden”… i had to deal with random fights and gunshots twice a week.. waking up dead midnight on the floor hoping the bullets won’t hit us. 20y old, I decided to move to SF to study and get away from the violence. Although I wasn’t affiliated in the gangs I was in the background hoping not to get seen but I need to to avoid the “where you from” .. I was 15, I had no choice but to embrace it. I changed my life, moved away from watts and into Downey. Better than living in The garden.
