This is when Phil's voice was still angelic
Heroin takes a lot from you. Far more than it gives. That's the scam. Phil in his prime and on record is nearly untouchable in the genre and his frontman stage prescience rivaled the biggest names in modern history.
Pantera constantly gets over looked b.c of the same crap alot of decent and honestly pretty good, rap and hip hop get.
You fear what you dont understand, because of all the anger Pantera is unfortunately a hard band to swallow if you dont share that thing.
As musicians they all put boot to ass and walked the walk. Different breed these lads.
He never did those high notes later on
His voice has gotten much better as of late, listen to the down Nola 2020 live stream
I’m just surprised he survived all those years playing with Pantera, the demand for him to perform with the Abbott brothers, their partying/work ethic style must have been insane. Phil did it, though!🤘😁
Lol yes he literally went from having this Angelica voice to sound like a demon.
Holy shit! I finally found a video where Phil Anselmo still has his high vocal range while performing Cemetery Gates live. I've been searching for the live version of that high tuned scream at the end of the song which is the best part of it. XD
Same here dude. He pretty much stopped those screams after the Cowboys From Hell tour.
yeah same
+Joseph Rodney Cervantes, Jr. Me too! Still looking for "shattered", but i don't think i will find...
+Arthur Vidal look for pantera home video pt 1 1990, it opens with shattered!
+roketfingers Thank you, man! I was searching for this since... I don't remember.
This is like one of only two live versions with Phil singing high... vocally I mean ;)
Juzman lol funny as fuck lol good one bro
You mean of just this song right? Because there is a lot of him singing high as fuck just not specifically this song
No , tons of 1989 , 1990 versions of this
Sometimes till 1993 , except he does the high more direct .
Wow i was looking for this song live and Phil singing like the end of the song like in the studio version
Well , phil sang high 1986 till globally 1993 in that old school style
I can't imagine how cheap it was to see this show back then. I would've killed to see them in a small venue.
Holy fuck same
It was $19.50
AT THAT TIME IT WAS 10.00 DOLLARS!!!!!!
And most of the time in Dallas/Fort Worth!!! JUST 5 BUCKS!!!!!
I paid no more than $20 when I saw them open for Suicidal Tendencies in SF at a place called The Stone. Place barely held 100 people. Phil was standing right next to me in the crowd enjoying the show for the opening local bands. This was right before Cowboys from Hell blew up. They were sick as fuck!
This is gold for us hard core fans
Fucking Fuck..
You ain’t lying there brother I come to watch this a few times a month cuz it’s gold
fr
Never gets old. Timeless for sure
Damn right!!!
People always talk about how amazing Dime is and Phil in this video (and they are) but I feel like everyone falls asleep on how good Rex and Vinnie were as well. As dime is absolutely melting faces, Rex is keeping everything together. And Vinnie was just an absolute powerhouse.
Well said!
This is such an interesting historical document, because you can see Dime and Rex still have all their stage moves from Pantera's hair metal days.
This the pantera that I know and fucking love! Loved this era 87-90
yeah,I guess transition wasn't so smooth.Love your comment mate.
No shit! That footwork! Kills me, I love it!
Nathan Wall well phil to
Its heavy metal stage mooves .
Like Priest did , like even morbid angel in 1989 did , like Celtic frost did even before Cold lake ( which musically is old school pre thrash metal ) .
You call them Glam mooves too ?
When Phil and Dime are battling at the end of who can hit the higher note always gets me so hard man. Such a talenter group, and the only thing that they wanted to do is play music. True musicians right there!
That's an absolute masterpiece
Amen
@@giorgiomartini8245 indeed, it truly is a masterpiece
ayo?
I know. I wish they could have keep it going but too much shit got in the way. Then then ultimate tragedy of Dime. And Vinnie's gone too now. They were the band that kept real power metal going into the 90s when MTV and the industry wrote it off. Pantera was proof that it was still happening.
It absolutely blows my mind how Dime is note for note every single time. Such a technical player but he had so much soul. You don’t see that very often. Rest easy my friend.
wow, dime without shorts \m/
Martin Strba right 😀
Lol thought the same
He got a shorter stance
He looks badass with or without shorts 😂
I saw them in 89 and 90.. Fantastic and what a time to be alive!
Lucky SOB, good 4U! Jealous!
Great time to be alive but unfortunately for me I was 7 or 8 so needless to say, no Pantera concerts for me! Saw them in 2000 though! Phil's voice sounds so unfucked right here.
Fuck, I grew up on pantera, they were all I listened to until I was 5 then I started listening to other bands too,
But I unfortunately was born in 97,
So no concerts for Me:/
Still on my top 10 list ever.
Really wish I was born in the 70s sometime so I could have been an adult for the 90s
But either way, pantera still had the same impact on me as it did millions other's,
Even though I moved on and listen to death metal and djent and tech death, pantera still always has that spot in my heart and I always go back to my roots
Braxton Marshall always remember your roots, man.
Yeah i saw them back then when they were on tour with Suicidal and exodus. So fucking awesome.
Not just Anselmo got voice, it's how he sang every word.
If those crowds knew this show's a lifetime achievement,This is a dream come true for them. Especially seeing Phil hitting those high note at the end battling with Dime.. Damn, it makes me cry.. RIP Vinnie & Dimebag
And damn man, his hair is so awesome back then.
Man , Phil could really rip those high notes!
the best band of metal 90 !!!!! The philip is a good vocal ... until today ...
matters not, Philip h Anselmo is still a legend...........
90's Pantera & Megadeth rules. 80's Metallica rules. 00's Avenged Sevenfold rules. 10's Five Finger Death Punch rules
LeThayle I'd say the 00s are for slipknot / a7x they both dominated, early 10s for BTMH and 10s entirely for korn, they're killing it again
@@sparklingion Slipknot are horrific
This is the first live version of cemetery gates I seen that Phil did the ending screams! Awesome.. in the live album he only did one scream / growl at the end, not like in the studio version. this is kickass
He did halford scream sometimes till 1993
Yeah it'd be great if they brought cemetery gates back and phil could just do his brutal scream at the end. I understand that his voice has altered so drastically that he can no longer Halford scream anymore but that's okay.
Miss old Phill .... what a badass voice !!!!!
Omfg dime wasn’t even trying while playing the main riff. This is why he’s regarded as the greatest metal guitarist
This video is just pure gold! I just wish Dime played the intro solo live. That part always gives me chills big time. Still, sounds amazing!! PanterA rules in any era!!
First time I have heard Phil hit that high note on this song live!! Dope!
2:39 Those moves! Rest in Peace, good soul!
Duuude, wtf! This is studio quality!
Yeah VHS wasn't so bad huh?
Imagine how bad it would sound with a cellphone.
Thank god that's not the case.
texas digger Rockmoore was a good cameraman. I wonder if he recorded for 1992’s Live one
Phil always stood out to me from all the other frontman. He just looks so fucking cool.
He's not just cool. He is sexy in a primal, animalistic way.
@@ElsjeD I have to agree with you.......
hat's off to Grady in the background turning the nobs
Phil was a fucking beast back n the day...
RIP Vinnie Paul
Oh I'm gonna cry. Why didn't we get these videos earlier?! THANK YOU.
Wish we were there 😞😩😖
This performance was so close to studio it’s absolutely astounding!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 A young hungry Pantera!!!!!
There will never be a pantera without the Abbott Brothers
Phil sounds fucking awesome here! Damn this performance is amazing I love it!!
Hitting all 3 “gates” at the end was 1990-91 only, and it was magical.
why the fuck was i born so late, i'll never get to see a performance like this
This song fucking rules! Love that solo!
Fucking wonderful. One band in tune with each other, PRIMALLY, if ever there was one. A machine. RIP Abbott boys. We love you forever.. CFH!
RIP Vinnie
Phil’s voice was incredible back then.
Phil’s voice! 🖤
Rex’s bass sounds killer
gives me chills to hear dime wail like a fucking immortal. His hammer ons were so lightning quick his turnarounds seemless legato slurs were fucking insane and had more feel than i could ever convey.
He looked and sang like an angel at this time.
The fact that this sounds the same as the studio is amazing
Yep, no bum notes in that solo. Dime’s technique was faultless, even live 🤘🏻
The world isn't worthy for such a voice.
Is that why he ruined it?
This is classic right here, the old Backstage off of Bissonnet and 59.
Highly unlikely you ever saw Phil hit those high notes at the end after this tour. After this, he would just shout "Gates!" and then they would wind down the song, even skipping Dime's epic solo at the end.
Till 1993 sometimes he shout gates yeah , but in his old style .
Not the official live version
.... Miss this so much. My favorite band of all time. It never gets old! Ty for the upload!🤗🤘
Pantera is the only band that continues to blow me away after all of these years of constant listening
I saw them 1993 Newport U.K I still have Dime's pick , we went backstage to see them , Dime was sat with his head down and hair covering his face completely shattered from the show...
Was that when they supported Megadeth? I had a chance to go to that gig but didn’t - I regret that one big time ☹️
Great footage James. Pantara raw...back in the day. Exactly what I fkn needed to see/hear, when Alternative rock was just beginning to take over the rock scene from the old school. Love this stuff, can't get enough of it. Thanks again.
WOOOW DAMN IT'S SUPER AMAZING!!!! I LOVE THE VIDEO AND PHIL'S VOICE YEEAHH HELL YEAH
THANKS SOOOO MUCH FOR THE SHARING:-) \m/
What a voice ! It takes me away every time I listen to it
Woah!!!! Never ever saw Dime wearing pants!!!!
Thank four your upload this fokin rocks, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
This was the Pantera that I'd kill to see them live!
Amazing video! Thanks so much! \m/
1 Of The Greatest And Tearful Rock Ballads. Rock Life - M2.H.B. 2023!
Wow never seen this one. Thankyou so much.
The memories this band gives me cannot be comprehended with..
Glad i am an OG from this era. All the best shit from this time. Class of 1990
thanks for this video!!
This video takes me back to a year after this was taken when I was introduced for the first time in Deep Ellem at The Bomb Factory. I vividly remember vinny dime and Rex eating tacos at the front door before the show and I just thought they must work there. I found out later they were the last to play. My life changed that night and throughout the 90’s I never missed a show in Dallas. Definitely miss and cherish those memories
Kick ass video..still cry watching Dime and Vinnie. Hope they reunited and found peace. Metal will never be the same.
Ugh best live version of this song. That ending is amazing
Thanks for sharing this!
Yes quite an accomplishment for a man to hit the vocal end part. He does it perfect especially on the studio vers. I love hearing it.
Used to hang out in Ft.Worth club scene back then saw Pantera countless times..At the time I did not realize what I was witnessing ..Savyies, Joe's Garage the basement, tombstone Factory. .Phil lived close by to me. I remember he showed me the lyrics to this song on note book paper..
The music will always live on!! Please keep uploading any rare footage etc. Many thanks ❤
Like the last comment stated! Phil had soaring live vocals and to hear them live in a small venue was a gift that we thankfully get to savor and remember! All the best!
it’s such a valuable memory for us❤
Pure gold right here 😯🎶🎵❤❤🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Masterpiece! Bravo! 👏👏👏😎
Phil Bad Ass Anselmo. Dime the Legend Vinny the drum god and Rex the shred machine. Great time for metal. Saw them live 4 times. When they toured with Slayer in 02 was my favorite, would have loved to see them in early 90's, I 1st did in 97 with Ozzy. Long live Pantera 🤘🤘👊👊
Phil's voice = incredible
classic man thank you for pantera
Man this brings me back!
One of the best concerts I've ever been to in my entire life!!! 🤟😎

good old times, and yes...the high pithed screams followed by the gtr squeals...i miss this band
So hard to find the rare version of him doing the high note. Love it
I have listen several versions of this song in live and this is my favourite because the way that he is singing is closer to the album.
