I always like to say that PanterA had 2 main singers. One of them just happened to sing through his Guitar.
That's a f*cking great comment. And to add to that... he was like two guitarist as well. Good ear brotha
Nicely said
Y'all ever listen to Panteras older stuff back when they were a Power metal group. The song Power Metal kicks ass amd puts Motley Crue to shame.
I smile the entire way through because I see him seeing the music. We mediocre musicians strive to have a tenth of his musical ability.
While present in many of their songs, I would agree this is probably the one that takes us from feeling that way about Dimebag, to believing it wholely.
Nice TBDM shirt! RIP Trevor!
this guy is gonna get famous for not giving a shit about all the famous songs we all love, but recreating them instantly lol.
😂😂 This made me laugh
😆
There's not one piano in that song!
@@garyregan7298 There definitely is.
crazy how quick he can replay the song on piano
He's right, now I want to hear more piano 😁
** most musicians I have known can figure out how to play whatever song they want to pretty easily. Esp accomplished musicians!!
If he wasnt so shit faced hed be even better.
He was ssooooo quick to learn, what a majestic ear
A very general and very simplified explanation: I'm not nearly good enough to do it quickly, but basically you get used to hearing notes to where you can already start off in the ballpark of trying to find a note, and once you do, you can pretty easily figure out the root note of the thing you're listening to, and once you have that, it's generally pretty easy to figure out the key it is in. Once you know the key, you only have 7 notes and 7 chords* to choose (in music there are only 12 notes [7 per scale] that just repeat higher and higher, every notes is on the piano 8 times), and just like getting sort of used to where a note is when you hear it, you get used to how those 7 notes in a scale sound in relation to each other. You also get used to what different scales sound like. If something sounds happy, they're probably playing major scale, blues scale sounds... bluesy, etc.
Think of it like food. If you don't know what a food is made of, you can probably still make a good guess of the ingredients if they're things you're familiar with the taste of. It's basically like that, just that you're not familiar with music ingredients because you're not used to tasting them or how to use them. Once you learn the ingredients and get used to how they taste, it's a lot easier to figure out what it's made of. It's like any other specialty someone has that another person doesn't.
*(this is all super generalized and some things depend on the style and genre of music, and how complicated the writing and arrangement is etc etc etc)
Texas here . R.I.P. Dime Bag and Vinnie Paul . Thanks Guys .
I love Richards face when the outro hits. That's EXACTLY how I look when I'm playing this song for someone XD
Awesome. Saw them twice back in the day. Such a great show. RIP Dime and Vinnie.🤘🔥🤘
❤R. I. P Dime bag and Vinnie
For sure, saw them open for skid row of all bands my first time-- they absolutely BLEW them out of the water!!
Phil jumped off a 20ft high stack of speakers, it was CRAZY, just to add to the phenomenal music and sound Pantera had!!❤️🙏🎸
I checked them out with White Zombie in ‘96.
Funny he mentioned EVH, Dime was a huge EVH fan and was even buried with one of EVH's guitars.
He connects on a level the standard person cant. I play guitar and can see the way he see or hears the music in a different way than im capable of. Its really quite amazing and humbling to be honest.
RIP Dime. We will always love you.
That shit damn near brought a tear to my eye. I want to hear the whole song on the piano.
In addition, I’m glad to see someone bring a new angle rather than doing just a normal reaction. I really enjoyed it. I see I’m late to the party so I’m going to watch the reaction to Floods next.
You're already one of my favorite channels. Keep them coming, guys!
For sure, think this is my 2nd or 3rd vid and I'm LOVING these guys already❤🎉!
*I play a lot of metal, blues and my favorite to play is classical (on my guitars that is)!
“2 minutes till the end…is this a riddle?”😂😂😂. You guys rock and your so refreshing.
God bless Pantera.
Gotta be honest, I take Dime for granted. i see the world through the lens of his riffs and solos, which I grew up with and internalized. I don't think about him often, but I see and hear with him every day. RIP
I loved your piano cover! Absolutely lovely.
Also, the eyes lighting up when Phil hits those high notes at the end. You hear the Priest in his voice.
For those who don't understand, to hear and know what the notes are just by hearing them once is not normal. It takes many years of learning to get to the point he is at now
PanterA - nothing on but the radio - offa Metal magic
Those divebombs by Dime at the end are 🔥 “get your pull off”
enjoying the reactions guys. You have a very special friend there, I have a suggestion for a reaction, Primus- The Seven. Thanks!
I'm kind of gobsmacked that our boy here is able to replicate parts of the song on the piano on first listen
It never gets old. That’s the main reason I wanted to put it on video. Too good not to share. 🤘
Such an emotionally loaded song!!
I really appreciate how you let the songs play out and don't cut them off at the end. Especially with fade out songs like this. You're a true rocker. Excellent song
I love these reactions. Would love to hear a reaction of reigning blood
SO HAPPY YOU GUYS DID THIS!!! I’ve been waiting for this!!!
He just sees everything we don't. Right in the moment. Beautiful and scary at the same time. (in a good way)
I love watching y'all's videos. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Ahh about the Judson piano cover… of this track… Yep 👍🏻 you were 100% correct about that 😄 sounds awesome! I really did like that little scratching the surface taste of what Judson played just off the cuff there. He’s obviously a musical genius and I admit I like watching him just translate it all in his head from guitar to piano as it plays on the fly. I would absolutely love to hear him do a full take of that 😮 just to see what it sounds like. As far as I’m aware nobody has ever thought to do it on solo piano like that😊. If they have I’ve never seen or heard it. I highly doubt I’m the only one watching that wants to hear it 😄 I’m trying to imagine the rest of it right now 🤔
Yes… lots of choppy chords during the riffs and then haunting solo notes that really ring out and sustain into forever , I’m 100% sure it will sound Amazing that way as well.
Still need iced earth - dantes inferno 😂👍 Watching everything, thanks.
My man here reacting and looking like Shostakovich. Keep it up!
Him playing Pyramid Song by Radiohead! Fantastic intro.
I used to have that same black Dahlia murder shirt but the picture got so faded. You can’t even see it on the front anymore so now it’s a sleeveless shirt that I use when I’m mowing the lawn.
I am in Love ❤️ with your ability to hear the music and watch you digest it. It flows through your fingers into the keys, keys to the jack and repetition lever pushing the hammer knuckle. And what I think might come out couldn’t be further from the truth. You then play a piece of music through interpretation that I could sit all day and listen to. Myself having heard this song hundreds of times knows the next note, but you hearing it and playing your version is so refreshing and exhilarating because I know I’m about to hear a new version, albeit pleasing in every way. I absolutely love this channel and will recommend to all of my musician friends. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! ❤️
I needed to hear this song today and seeing it through your eyes was a treat
Yes please. Full covers
Hi from the UK 👋 🇬🇧 something you might like to check out the band is called Nightwish it's a symphonic metal band from Finland with a Dutch singer floor jansen ( the vakyrie) This band has a massive following in Europe and the Internet
Nightwish ghost love score wacken open air concert 2013 official music video
Also as you did 46 and two you might like to check out this cover of that 🎵
Kids cover 46 and two the o keefe music foundation
I've seen a few of your vids. But the Pantera riffs on piano made me sub. Loved it!
This song hits the perfect balance of aggression and sadness. Weird, there's nothing standard abt this song to me. It really stands in a league of its own. Those transitions into the prechoruses always get me HYPED!
"Through all those complex years
I thought i was alone!" Rip a damn head off man! and then that outro of course!
It’s easily one of the best metal ballads ever
Hey i like this song too its better than this love
Love this stuff. Judson is awesome
The more I am watching you two, the more I am loving it. Two worlds and two good souls kindda make one universe here. Kindda ;)
Cant wait for the Sabaton reactions.
OH MAN, I'm sorry, the guy on this Piano, please play the full song on Piano. I and so many others would love it! Just how you played it almost note for note out of the gate is impressive. Dang!
I absolutely love this song. I think it opened some doors for me as a teenager.
For real! They just BLEW everything else out of the water..
How about something from the bedlam in Goliath by the Mars Volta. Musically insane, technical, proggy and interesting.
Awesome song by pantera and we all know and love it but also a bit formulaic and dated by these days standards. Was a proper banger back in the day though 🎉
That was a nice Radiohead interpretation. Thank you both.
sounds really good on a piano wow! Time for a full cover, I agree!
Dimebag 100% invented the whammy squeal. You are correct. Wizard on harmonics. This song is so underrated imho. The guitar and vocals are matching equals on that outro. Hearing it live is amazing how Phils vocals then dimebag matches it perfectly with a guitar squeal etc.
No idea your channel existed and am pleasantly surprised!
I hope this channel takes off!
hi Richard watched a few of your reactions and i like your taste in music, big fan of Opeth, Tool , Metallica , Radiohead , Pantera , Jinjer , Linkin park, Slipknot etc, any more from them would be great and more recently Ren, be good to see some Papa roach, Rage against the machine, system of a down , Karnivool, Disturbed , Lamb of god, Porcupine tree maybe ?🤗🤘 Judson is a gass dude 😆
Thanks for the suggestions! 🤘
I love Radio Fred, he's a great guy
😂😂
I LOVE how he is like "why you messing with your phone???" Its way to connon for people to do that during movies, meetings, etc. when supposed to be social or stuff like that
Not sure how I missed this one. Thanks boys. Old format I see
The first Pantera song I remember hearing was Hollow and from there I was hooked.
The Black Dahlia Murder shirt nice! Time to bring one of their songs up! RIP Trevor
For sure! I’m planning to do A Shrine to Madness for Halloween
My first introduction to pantera was the song "Mouth for War"...hooked instantly. For me Dime was on level of hendrix, rhodes, halen, sateiani, wylde etc
LETS GOOOO!!!
I think it's almost time for you to introduce him to the band on your shirt 🤘🏻
I’m thinking I introduce them for a Halloween episode. Show him A Shrine to Madness. What do you think?
@Gr8_Measures that would be a good place to start. I'd recommend Dawn of Rats or Necropolis aswell. I think it would be interesting to hear some of TDBM songs translated into a classical form with strings and piano. Would have a haunting yet beautiful sound to it
@@kelevra002b completely agree. TBDM also means a complete review of lyrics. Nobody did it like Trevor.
Really happy I found this small channel and I hope it grows! It's different from all the other reaction channels because it's the two of you, it creates a nice feel, a metalhead (presumambly) coming to his classical friend with these suggestions. It's nice having a conversation between the two of you rather than just watching the person reacting.
By the way I notice the audio is quiite low when you are speaking, wheras the audio of the song is perfect, please consider increasing the volume of your mics.
Thank you for the kind words. If it grows, that will be great, but we’re having a blast doing it. We’re going to try some new mics on our upcoming videos and hope to have this issue resolved going forward.
@@Greatmeasures Floods and Cemetery Gates, is like Panteras power ballads, I hope you get to the main and even the outrageous once soon.
Main the once defining the sound of Pantera, Walk, Broken, 5 min alone.
Outrageous once, Fucking hoistal, suicide note part 1 and 2 preferable as one song.
Great reaction guys! Yall should check out Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope live in Colorado
Okay, hear me out...I would HIGHLY recommend Ghost of Perdition by Opeth to be your next song. The heavy parts get your blood pumping, but the softer parts really hit you in the feels; especially when you take the topic of the song into consideration (its about Mikeal Akerfelds mother dying). I would also recommend you do the studio verson before the live version even though the live version gives the song more life and is easier on the ears. I know you have done an Opeth song before and you wanted to ease into the heavier stuff, but this one is truly something special. If you can handle the vocals at certain sections you won't be disappointed (I hope 😂).
Gotta do the live version though I feel like.
@@taylorlatham5198 NO! Always do the studio version on reaction channels. Well, almost always.
Ghost of Perdition @ redrocks is basically the studioversion, or maybe even better@@jhamler1
A Fair Judgement would be nice to😉
i think harlequin forest as well live
This channel is gonna be MASSIVE soon, and happy to be along for the ride 🙌🏻 just get some GHOST on this channel 👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
my favorite pantera song!. so is the full piano cover coming? :) kinda want to hear that
it's one of the good Pantera song.
Domination Live!
I love how he sees the music in his head and almost reads it. I don't know if you did already, but I would love to see the reaction to Opeth's Windowpane, or anything from their album Damnation
I love it. This is wonderful. Also, I really appreciate how the musician is honest about what he enjoys and what he doesn't. It's a breath of fresh air compared to so many youtube channels nowadays, where it's only overblown super positive reactions 100% of the time, with fake dramatic facial expressions as thumbnails for the videos.
Subscribing and can't wait for more 😀
Welcome! The fake facial expressions are the worst. Do you have any requests?
Nightwish, Ghost Love Score Live at Wacken 2013....you'll be very happy you checked it out!
I would like to hear you do a cover of this song 😁
I can’t decide whether Richard looks like Eminem or Ben Affleck. Seriously, though, this was a wonderful breakdown of one of my favorite songs. Great job guys
I like the new format
Well this is exciting. Definitely subbing
One of the best metal songs done!!! Got a little bite for everyone, vocals, growl, clean and distorted guitars. Have you done Dissection - Where deat angels lie????
I would like to see Judson's reaction on Entombed Left hand Path. Will he survive "disgousting" sound of HM2 Boss pedal :)
I have a proxy nephew with skills similar to the talented piano man.... But never have i heard Pantera via piano....
My lord is old mate got skills...
I’m trying to push him to do some covers/renditions. Definitely want Pantera to be one of them.
time for some classic Maiden!
I would absolutely listen to that piano cover.
Dude is completely right. Dime bag innovated a Wawa pedal harmonic technique that people were using but not quite the way he was
I believe Judson is right, although these techniques usually have been done before by someone less famous: Dimebag used to bend the trem UPWARDS with a pinch-harmonic which is hard to do accurately, and then ease-off to lower the tone back to the natural pitch. Sort of the opposite of a dive-bomb. It has a different feel and gets you into some super high pitches. Very expressive.
Eddie VH, Randy Rhoads, KK Downing ...less famous ?
@@Nissardpertugiu As far as I am aware those guys used standard dive-bombs and pinch harmonic dive-bombs.
It's a natural harmonic rather than pinched. Diving down and then catching the harmonic on the string as you pull up is very Dimebag.
Might have been done before him, but I couldn't name a song using that technique before Dime popularised it.
@@lewe666 He would also turn the trem-arm the wrong way and bend upwards from the natural pitch. I suspect Steve Via or Jeff Beck may have used this at some point.
@@TheBaconWizard Yngwie does it too.
Occasionally, but he does.
Since 1978.
Thanks for playing the correct version for him.
That man has great ears for music no doubt.
Judson: you’re the man!!! I was laughing and ended up crying because of: Funny? Do you think that’s funny?!!😂😂😂😂
When Richard was reading the intro/background!!!
This is one of if not the greatest Pantera of all time
First, that was Pyramid Song by Radiohead. A masterpiece. Second, this is one of the better solos. Being compared to the insane childhood talent, winning all the contest as a young adult. It's nearly impossible to select a number one from him. Dime will always be my favorite guitarist. He mastered tone, he was obsessed with it much like EVH. Nobody could play Dime's setup without getting feedback. His finger strength was that epic.
Love the piano play-ins.
I requested you guys react to Radiohead - Pyramid Song a couple vids back. Such a beautiful and too often overlooked song. So rad to hear Judson playing it.
this song is my favorite in cowboy
Definitely have to introduce him to Liquid Tension Experiment. That's a band he would seriously sink his teeth into. They are musicians for musicians
If you guys want to check out, Nocturna - Blood of Heaven, Genre - Power Metal.
You can tell the piano player is a real musician he probably can play every instrument out there but what makes me happy is that he without knowing said dimes invented something new on the guitar and he’s absolutely right The absolute GOAT dimebag metal misses those abbot brothers
I know this was earlier Pantera , as I was just a we Nard back then , however I’ve always been curious as to why Phil didn’t show case his singing abilities in this manner in any other songs ??? It’s truly a masterpiece from start too finish ! Suicide is very eerie as is Dimes guitar work at the onset of this song & his guitar cries mimicking those of the singers once again crying out ! A song with standing the test of time & never gets old !
Well... "Cowboys from Hell" are 5th Pantera album. It's their "early, rebranded to more heavy Pantera". On first four, they were more glam/speed. Phil joined on 4th album "Power Metal". So if You look for higher notes, look there ;) My favourite is "We'll meet again".
Jesus, this is Pantera at its finest
The pianist is amazing, I think he could do any cover.
The Sleep!!!!
C'moln!!!Do it!!!!!Whata you waiting for?
Also, Testament- Return to Serenity
Im really digging the unedited rawness of a musician and a fan of music not so much reacting but conversating about thrse masterpieces we all love. You guys are gonna go far. Can we get Megadeth " A Toute La Monde " PLEASE!!!!!
fight fire with fire? love this channel
There was winds swirling around my house. I was alone.... I couldnt believe what was going on
You should do a full cover of Cemetery Gates on the piano.
I agree
❤️🔥
The initial piano cover almost sounds like country/bluegrass. Definitely a talented musician, I could hear the pantera
Back again, I been looking for more groove metal that's even remotely comparable to Pantera. I hear the brief piano cover and equate my love for metal and the country/bluegrass/folk together and it brings joy to my joyless soul that someone can hear a loathsome song and instantly recreate it in such a beautiful way
