      Absolutely! Just like Alex and Eddie Van Halen before them. They were brothers born with a special talent that only a few are blessed with. Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul were without a doubt heavy metal greatness. The standard that no other group can or ever will copy. Rest in peace Dimebag Darrell Lance Abbott and Vinny Paul Abbott AKA the Abbott brothers.

      I was too young to meet Dimebag but I was very fortunate to get a picture, autograph and had an awesome discussion with Vinnie after a HellYeah show. One of the most down to earth, nicest guys I ever met. RIP brother, you'll be missed.

      It's a blues technique that BB King called "beck and call" where the vocalist would sing a line of the lyric, and the guitarist would play a passage, and they would trade off through the verse. Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore would often do it live, and Ian did it with Steve Morse as well.

      Until I put on headphones and listened to Pantera I didn't realize how well Phil can sing. He can make all of the noises and make them with all of the singing techniques.

      "Vocal longevity"LOL ...if you listen to some of Phil Anselmo's interviews later on, his voice sounds like a Chevy V8 engine. Give "Suicide Note pt.2", from their later album, "The Great Southern Trendkill" a try and then you'll know why. LOL

    A Texas metal band, "Twang" is therefore a given. Pantera really was one of the pioneers that led us from the Hair Metal era to the promised land.

      Couldn't agree more. I went to probably 150 or 200 or so metal shows in my 20's and early 30's, and the one time I was fortunate enough to see Pantera (Hammerstein Ballroom, 2000, Reinventing the Steel Tour) was hands-down the best live performance I've ever seen.

    He does one more belt at the end up to A5. Phil is always looked at as such an aggressive vocalist but I don't think he gets enough respect as a singer overall. Dude is a monster with great range and control.

    They were such a special group. Pantera crushed all live back in the day. The chemistry with the 4 of them was unmatched in the metal scene for a long time, especially in the 90s. All 4 genuinely good guys, super talented musicians, and were always amazing & down to earth with their fans. RIP Vinnie & Dime.

      Agreed! For me they are one of the best that will ever be, perfect fit!
      Let’s show some love for Rex too, he was just as important. Without him it wouldn’t work having Dime playing that high all the time. Truly a match made in heaven those four, for a while at least :).
      Too this day Vulgar Display of power is the album I put on when I need to hype myself up for something.

    If you take a listen to some interviews with Phil, he has a very low speaking voice but does amazing high note vocals. Really miss Dime and Vinnie. Best brother rock band ever.

      He *did high note vocals. He can't anymore. His voice became lower, it was not as low back then. Smoke, drink, and wear and tear gave him a lower voice.

    Hi Julia! Unfortunately the official music video is like a radio edit, it's missing two minutes at the very start which is a lot more stripped back with vulnerable vocals that then leads into the climax which is the start of this video. Awesome breakdown of the song but a shame you (and Elizabeth) both missed out on witnessing such a great part of the original track!

    The guitarist Darrel Abbot was one of the best.. unfortunately he was shot dead on stage.. i knew these guys personally... Darrell and Vinny Abbot were 2 of the coolest dudes in metal.. may they both rest in peace.. we miss you...

      I am from Columbus, went to bed early the night it happened. Before I did, though, I saw a news update about a shooting at a bar/concert venue, but didn’t connect the dots. Then I got up and got the paper and saw the headline. I was not expecting that, at all. I have watched the actual footage taken as the gunman enters the stage area. It really creeps me out.

    My favorite band ever and it's not even close in their prime Phil Anselmo was one of the best vocalists in the game his vibrato was incredible and his ability to hit that raspy tone was effortless a once in a lifetime talented band

    Grew up about an hour from Dime & Vinnie in North Texas. Seen them before Phil in 1983 playing little local clubs and everyone knew they were gonna do great things! There will never be another Mighty Pantera!! Rest In Power Abbott Brothers! 🇨🇱🤘

    Its amazing to me you caught all the stuff the musicians were doing along with the singer in one listen . And why does no one talk about Rex and his bass work ??? For a metal band with only one guitarist , Rex laid the backbone and fills during Dimes solos like a badass !

    Vinnie Paul is a MASTER of triplets. He is one of my favorite drummers hands down. I believe he took a lot of influence from John Bonham, who was also very triplet focused. If you like triplet feel, Pantera has lots of it. In fact, that entire album (cowboys from Hell) is a monster album...

    I’ll never tire of watching people discover something I’ve had the privilege of knowing its greatness for 34 years. Pantera were local boys for me and their loss is still felt to this day.

    I've seen Pantera live 3 times. Amazing show each time.

    Pantera was the hardest-hitting metal band, in my opinion. Most of their songs punch you right in the face and leave you wanting more. Give the song Domination a listen. There's a great live version from Moscow that was from 1991. The energy of the song is off the charts!!

      @@Proverbs31_25 I read that there were over a million people at that show. Not sure if that is true but looking at the video, it was a massive crowd. That must have been so amazing to be on that stage and just looking at a sea of people.

      actually when you listen to Darrell (guitarist) sing in a little Arlington bar in Texas- singing "cat scratch fever" - i just hear his normal southern voice come out & is how he actually talked ...
      not everyone understands -its a southern'thing
      I only knew Vinnie, Darrell, Rex ... non singing voices & they are frm TEXAS - they talk & sing with Texas twang i guess to say
      .... adding Phil was bring in deep southern vocals from new orleans
      Pantera -Vinnie - they NEVER sold-out to hollywood bs band crap!

    I saw these guys twice in 1991/92. Their live performance sounded just as good as the albums. They have a LOT of great tunes to react to.

      Yeah unfortunately Phil didn't take care of his voice and by the early 2000s it was clear he was losing it. :( Too much drinking, smoking, drugs and hard partying..

On that note, if you venture further into Pantera and do Floods, please do NOT use the version with the most views, as there is a glitch in the audio not once, but twice in the epic guitar solo, and it completely removes you from the immersion of the music. Honestly for Floods, I recommend one of the lyric versions. You're awesome! 💕

    They were a Texas-based band, and Phil himself is from Louisiana, so a bit of Southern US dialect occasionally comes through in their vocals. That twang, and unique vowel placement on words like "past" are typical of the Southern dialect.

    Drummer and guitarist are brothers ( Vinnie Paul & Dimebag Darrell) Dime was the guy that got shot on stage during a live show right in front of his brother! Dime was a huge influence to A LOT of people!!!

      Two guys also died in that shooting trying to stop the gunman. They saved a lot of lives. One was a civilian and one an off duty cop.

      That's one of my favorite songs too, as is this one.
      Also, check out "The End Of Heartache" by Killswitch Engage. Live version or studio version doesn't matter, he sounds the same either way.
      Rebecca Vocal Athlete did a reaction to "Love Hate Love live at The Moore" that I loved.
      I just like hearing vocal coaches react to this song because they always go nuts at how high Phil can go and how fast Dimebag can play. 🤟

    I know I love this song and this performance more than I can describe but it's fun to hear you break it down. The speech quality part and about how he takes vowels and does some real dynamic things with them, it makes sense now why it's so pleasing to listen to even though I don't understand the music theory. Also why I appreciate these breakdowns. And then "the note" of course being mimiced by the guitar which is goosebump city. Great reaction.
