@BAZ INGA everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Personally I can't stand the guy's personality, but can't deny the amount of people he's inspired to pick up a bass.
I think Rex doesn’t gets enough credit. Everyone talks about Dime and Vin, but a lot of what made them great was Rex, add in Phil with his crazy vocal range and lightning struck.
I remember I saw a video wherein Rex explained that he also played some of the rhythm guitar parts when they were recording. He then proceeded to explain how to properly play the riff before Dime plays the guitar solo on Cowboys from Hell.
The kid walking across the stage and the stage diving. Back before everyone was worried about insurance this, insurance that. Concerts back then were so fun.
Yeh I see where you’re coming from but I think there should be something against just coming on and off the stage like you were in the band cause We lost a legend like that (someone came up on stage and shot Dimebag)
you think that's what stopped most places allowing people on stage? No, it was Dime being killed and bands not wanting the risk. Insurance has always existed.
At 2:53 when dime and Paul share that special moment, living their dream together as brothers and dime facing paul.... that was some rare emotional moment.
5:48 dime hits a wrong note on the guitar and immediately improvises a solo in that key!... That is pure talent! Thats why he gets the accolades that he well deserves. That is not easy to do!
Dime used to drink whiskey from 6pm until 12 noon everyday. That’s when rock stars were rock stars …. Nowadays they’re all vegan and sober. We were lucky to have experienced all of this action in real-time !!!
I'm 62 years old been a metal head my whole life, this groupe of musicians together on stage live are ABSOLUTELY UNTOUCHABLE, may GOD BLESS your souls Vinnie and Dime
My guitar instructors high school teacher went on a date with Dimebag when they were like 18, she didn’t talk to him again bc he just talked about guitar the whole time
Fin Huckabee Dimebag has been with Rita Haney since they were 13. So, nice story. But probably an embellishment. Possibly a double date with Dime, Rita and one of Dimes buddies 🤘🏻
Wargasm644 yeah I was going to say they same thing. Believe it or not Dime did not cheat on Rita at all. Yes girls showed him their boobs and shit like they. Him and Vinnie owned a strip club but he was very loyal to Rita even though she gave him a Pass as she knew he was a rock Star. I know Dime since 1990 and we hung out allot when he came to town or when I flew out to events. Dime even flew me out to be in the Cowboys And other Videos that they shot at The Basement Club in Texas.
Amen my dude amen I saw them in 97 in Biloxi Mississippi at 13yrs old my very first concert and big shout out to my parents for not only letting me go with only a bunch of teenagers 3 states away zero adults present but they also paid for it all and gave me several hundred dollars which was a lot since we weren't super well off that's how much they valued music and live shows! I'm absolutely going to the reunion tour and taking my 15 year old son time to pass the tour torch to him also they were my first so it's only fitting they be my last (I'm on weekly chemo treatments so realistically it probably will be my last real metal show since my body is breaking down and I am NOT a go sit in the stands kinda chic I'm balls out mosh pit crowd surfing front row barricade bruising general admission floor kind of girl lol)!
Please show Rex some love! I mean, all of them are fucking legends, but I feel that Rex doesn't the get the love he deserves! Look at those fucking bass lines!!
That guitar-bass duo at the beginning of the vid is one of the best thing I've ever heard. The way Dime and Rex complement each other is a beauty to my ears. The melodic skills of this band is under rated.
Chronic Delta i completely agree. The last few measures leading up until the very last bend is probably the best improvised lead I've ever heard in 30 years of being a music consumer.
my friends mom was at this concert, said everybody in the end in the mosh pits were all bruised up and bleeding and the whole concert was amazing, man I wish I was alive to be there
If anyone has any doubt of the importance of a quality bassist to a band, they need to watch this video! Rex was sick on this, that intro with Dime was pure. Some bands are overrated and get too much kudos. Prime Pantera deserves all the praise they get. Absolutely legendary line-up!
I wen't on a drive while listening to this song on full blast. And i came home that night feeling totally in peace and with no worries. Rip Dimebag, he was such a gentle human but was a complete monster on stage.
They should learn how to play from this video. Every live Metallica vid is a mess for some reason or another. This is awesome, and Pantera was ALWAYS great live. Metallica live is cartoonish by comparison - this coming from someone that basically had a Metallica shrine in the late 80s. WAS a huge fan. Now? Still a fan, but I can't handle the live slop. It's not artistic, it's lazy.
Haha according to the RUclips premium ad under the video this song was written by Morrissey and Marr! I appreciate that Marr has some chops but I doubt he could keep up with my man Dime!
*"Like the beer commercial says it don't get much better than this, man! Thank y'all for kickin' ass!"* 👍🏻 🤘🏻 No Phil, thank YOU four guys for giving us your art! In an interview, Phil was talking about the recording of Cemetery gates, and he said it took him forever to hit the high note when he says "Memories now unfold." He said he got really frustrated because he just couldn't hit it. Here, you can tell he had trouble hitting it, and was a little off and went "shit" afterwords. :)
Rex said phil couldnt really hit it. He tried several times. He just couldnt or just enough the engineer could tweak it to perfection. It was studio magic.
@@ratatgp3926 The story I heard was that he had to drink red wine to warm his throat up. He said Terry Date (their producer) told him Chris Cornell would do that as well.
Needless to say this is a Diamond Darrell Lance Abbott classic guitar masterpiece. Phil is incredible as well is Vinnie Paul Abbott. However Rex adds so much to this song with his beautiful basslines. So flawless. PANTERA have always been the tightest Heavy Metal band on the planet. Merry Christmas!!!
RIP Dime and Vinnie. They were THE metal group man. Hell Phil was outstanding. Still is. And Rex? One of the most underated bassists in the history of metal.
Miss Dimebag, he was awesome. I first heard these guys live in 88 when I was stationed at Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth TX. Saw them a bunch of times at Joe's Garage and they were always incredible.
Let's be real about "studio magic".... it probably took a dozen or more takes to get that scream right on the album. Nobody expects or needs that at a live concert. Phil was at the top of his game in this video. He's surprisingly good today also.
@@SkulllywagI recall hearing/reading an interview somewhere where he said those high notes were actually not too hard in the studio, but the "memories now remain" at the end of each chorus took a ton of takes to get right. They were probably right around the bridge in his voice which can be a huge pain in the ass to sing and have it sound good.
He actually never challenged himself in the studio he only put his skills on full display live, so he always knew he could play their set list as he knew he could do every album comfortably
Man, My first Pantera show was in 1991 at the Astro Arena when they opened for Skid Row on the Vulgar Display of Power Tour. I’m still here too bro lol. I come here like once a month 😊
Left hand Path from 89 still sounds better than almost everything
2023 😎🤘
The Bass sounds so clean!
Rex is so underrated. He doesnt get half the credit he deserves for their sound.
Ernie Ball Musicman... it's got that tone. Before they got big he used to play a Jackson.
@BAZ INGA everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Personally I can't stand the guy's personality, but can't deny the amount of people he's inspired to pick up a bass.
Bad JuJu he’s personality ? What ? Lmao Rex rarely even talks or anything fuck you talking about ? lmao
@@dontrump4210 Some folks just run their mouths man, yeah he's a great bassist and I know what I'm talkin' about.
I think Rex doesn’t gets enough credit. Everyone talks about Dime and Vin, but a lot of what made them great was Rex, add in Phil with his crazy vocal range and lightning struck.
Pantera was a dreamteam.
Rex is very underrated couldn't agree more!!
I remember I saw a video wherein Rex explained that he also played some of the rhythm guitar parts when they were recording. He then proceeded to explain how to properly play the riff before Dime plays the guitar solo on Cowboys from Hell.
The world could use another dose of Texas Metal. CFH!
Took all 4 to create the best fucking badass 🔊 metal band ever!!! ✝️ RIP Dime 🎸 and 🥁Vinnie Paul
The kid walking across the stage and the stage diving. Back before everyone was worried about insurance this, insurance that. Concerts back then were so fun.
Yep!!!! That made that kids life.. We all made it this far!! That kid made my night.
Yeh I see where you’re coming from but I think there should be something against just coming on and off the stage like you were in the band cause We lost a legend like that (someone came up on stage and shot Dimebag)
Well Dime did got shot on stage because some fucker
you think that's what stopped most places allowing people on stage? No, it was Dime being killed and bands not wanting the risk. Insurance has always existed.
Go to Canada 🇨🇦 😄
At 2:53 when dime and Paul share that special moment, living their dream together as brothers and dime facing paul.... that was some rare emotional moment.
5:48 dime hits a wrong note on the guitar and immediately improvises a solo in that key!... That is pure talent! Thats why he gets the accolades that he well deserves. That is not easy to do!
Bro dime doesnt miss notes. That was just a different version of the solo he had in his repertoire. I agree with everything else you said
Dime used to drink whiskey from 6pm until 12 noon everyday. That’s when rock stars were rock stars …. Nowadays they’re all vegan and sober. We were lucky to have experienced all of this action in real-time !!!
@@JimmyR83 I think its a good thing to be sober, but I think veganism is becoming a major problem
I hear ya, but he's playing true to the recording. Dude was just beyond like that. \m/ RIP Dime
@@victherattlehead5099 wdym problem you dont need to be vegan
I'm 62 years old been a metal head my whole life, this groupe of musicians together on stage live are ABSOLUTELY UNTOUCHABLE, may GOD BLESS your souls Vinnie and Dime
I have been a metal head all my life this band ROCKS
Thank you brother they are lethal always have been always will be Dime definitely showed Kirk Hammett how to jam Metal properly ☮️🤘
The touch Dime puts on it in the slow parts is mean-
I'm 48, so have i

man I love how Dimebag plays the chords an octave higher at 0:28
Yeah, thats awesome
yeah that shit sounded so fucking nice

T@@SinkMan434 I lost killing floor behind cemetery gate
Also at 1:23 :)
I'm 60 still blastin' Pantera. Fukk it my kids gotta know!!
My guitar instructors high school teacher went on a date with Dimebag when they were like 18, she didn’t talk to him again bc he just talked about guitar the whole time
Fin Huckabee
Dimebag has been with Rita Haney since they were 13. So, nice story. But probably an embellishment. Possibly a double date with Dime, Rita and one of Dimes buddies 🤘🏻
Wargasm644 Lol no
Wargasm644 well shoot it was just what my guitar teacher told me
Michael Higgins you cant prove that
Wargasm644 yeah I was going to say they same thing.
Dime's improv scares the shit out of me every damn time...
Air Guitar lol
Johnny Games Air Guitar?

I still have a guitar pick Dimebag threw to me in 97'. Mosh-pits were NO joke back then, totally worth the tinnitus
5:04 Dimebag drops hips pick, still everything sounds cristal clear - what a guitar player!
He picks it up right away
Please show Rex some love!
I mean, all of them are fucking legends, but I feel that Rex doesn't the get the love he deserves!
Look at those fucking bass lines!!
oh ya
Ur exactly right they were all great musicians to say the least!!
Rex was so unbelievably important. He really shines here
You don't have to be on social media to be respected and appreciated,,, true fans don't always advertise,,, we're out here,,, Believe that
Oh I've been looking... And I like what I see.... in a bassline..............
15 years since he’s passed and still nobody can top dimes talent. Fly high man
That guitar-bass duo at the beginning of the vid is one of the best thing I've ever heard. The way Dime and Rex complement each other is a beauty to my ears. The melodic skills of this band is under rated.
There is something special about this performance, especially the intro
Phil's perfectly timed punch right as that bad ass riff starts is too perfect.
His intro speech is also perfectly in sync with the music
Just like the beer commercial says, goddamn man it doesn't get any better than this
The way dime improvised that guitar solo is just amazing. RIP the greatest dimebag darrell
Chronic Delta i completely agree. The last few measures leading up until the very last bend is probably the best improvised lead I've ever heard in 30 years of being a music consumer.
Pantera, i miss this band. I love this band overall, damn it, good things never ever last, especially the better ones.
Phil created a new band they mostly have been touring and doing just Pantera songs
@@Swogie phils had side projects for years.
@@Swogie
No, they just started playing Pantera sets AFTER a set of ILLEGALS material since Vince died
my friends mom was at this concert, said everybody in the end in the mosh pits were all bruised up and bleeding and the whole concert was amazing, man I wish I was alive to be there
Well, we still have Lars...
Iiji
Very sad to lose another guitar great - even though it was years ago.
Unquestionably based.
Dime being in his element having fun and Phil's power metal scream in the end 06:49. I keep watching that part over and over. Pantera in their prime.
6:27 Dime like a dark angel with light behind.
Dafak
That looked badass.
Must have been God, opening his door to give Dimebag his throne after hearing that solo....
Trippy🧐
He is
I’m 62 and miss the hell out of this greatness. These kids nowadays don’t have a clue how much fun we had, these bands were the best
Seriously! Who in the right mind, would give this a thumbs down.? It really makes no sense. One of the best jams of the 90s, hands down no question.
Losers, that's who.
Probably some Coldplay fans who work at SmartTech.
Metallica should learn something about how loud the bass needs to be from pantera.
Lars could also learn how drums are supposed to be played.
@@TheMaxPower82 lol
They should learn how to play from this video. Every live Metallica vid is a mess for some reason or another. This is awesome, and Pantera was ALWAYS great live. Metallica live is cartoonish by comparison - this coming from someone that basically had a Metallica shrine in the late 80s. WAS a huge fan. Now? Still a fan, but I can't handle the live slop. It's not artistic, it's lazy.
Or how not to be a whole chode
No cliff Burton is not what you think
R.I.P VINNIE💗 LEGEND
@DemonicFlame66 {Demon} they will never be forgotten
What about dime
R.I.P. DIMEBAD❤

The fact he nailed that solo with the same guy interrupting him three times is awesome, R.I.P Dimebag and Vinnie.
i like dimebag the guitar solos beautifull
How old was Phil Anselmo when Cemetery Gates was released?
Mike Head I was about 17 then, 88 or 89 so probably early 20s. Seen them on Headbangers Ball a premier video.
Mike Head He was born in 68' so about 22.
He’s really good at Making Improvisation sound like it’s apart of the original
Try the solo from "the sleep"
Such a beautiful bass line! Rex did amazing stuff in Pantera.
The way things are today, who knows if we’ll ever have a band that comes close to this ever again. Let alone a great guitarist like Dime.

Haha according to the RUclips premium ad under the video this song was written by Morrissey and Marr! I appreciate that Marr has some chops but I doubt he could keep up with my man Dime!
Hell Yeah , Awesome
The nostalgia is something else
Rex one of the most underrated bass players of my time.... overshadowed by the pure power of dimebag
Pantera cures my Depression
Same man same on repeat every damn day
*"Like the beer commercial says it don't get much better than this, man! Thank y'all for kickin' ass!"* 👍🏻 🤘🏻
No Phil, thank YOU four guys for giving us your art! Will always love the 4 of you fella's as the Powerhouse Pantera you were and still are. Rest in power the Abbott bro's, take over that town wherever you are Gents 🤞🏻 God speed.
He doesn't hit it here.
@@ratatgp3926 The story I heard was that he had to drink red wine to warm his throat up. He said Terry Date (their producer) told him Chris Cornell would do that as well.
@@ratatgp3926 I thought the same thing, that he was saying shit at himself. Theres no breathing room in this song, he does well here.
For the longest time "walk" was everything i knew about pantera. I would have never expected the singer to be able to sing like he does here

The palm muting the riff at 1:59 and the chugging at 3:01 are insane!! 🤟

THE BEST PANTERA SONG!!! INSANE PERMORMANCE LIVE!! I saw the band in Brazil in 1993.
RIP Dime and Vinnie. They were THE metal group man. Hell Phil was outstanding. Still is. And Rex? One of the most underated bassists in the history of metal.
when i miss my mom in 2016 i listen this song every day , its amazing how the music can help to you
Miss Dimebag, he was awesome. I first heard these guys live in 88 when I was stationed at Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth TX. Saw them a bunch of times at Joe's Garage and they were always incredible.
Damn! This was over 30 years ago, sucks getting old but grateful I got to experience them live several times.
One of best live performances I ever heard. I was born in 84 so I was 8 during this but I’m almost 40 now and this still kicks ass
Watched this a thousand times when Phil says “this one here’s cemetery gates” and dime drops the hammer will never gets old
Timeless. I could hear this 50 years from now and it will still be relevant to my life.
6:40 I don’t blame Phil for not doing the crazy high pitched ending but him going full Halford at the end was great
Let's be real about "studio magic".... it probably took a dozen or more takes to get that scream right on the album. Nobody expects or needs that at a live concert. Phil was at the top of his game in this video. He's surprisingly good today also.
he did it ultil 1991 but i gues hes vocal style was different by this point@@Skulllywag
"Hope you like it."
That's like giving a blind man an eye sight, and asking how you feel.
jesus christ this is amazing
truly yes
Notice how dime sounds EXACTLY THE SAME he does in studio?
He ripped the eq out of the studio when he recorded the album that’s why haha
It's almost like he has passion for what he does! Which is so fucking rare and special. Which is why people love him.
He actually never challenged himself in the studio he only put his skills on full display live, so he always knew he could play their set list as he knew he could do every album comfortably
Dime lived to play guitar, it wasnt just something he did during practice and shows...he even took his axe to the bathroom lol.
Man, My first Pantera show was in 1991 at the Astro Arena when they opened for Skid Row on the Vulgar Display of Power Tour. FUCKING MAGICAL NIGHT! 15 years old, on the floor, in the pit, man, I remember every minute of that concert. there will NEVER BE A TIME LIKE THAT AGAIN! It was so organic and RAW! I’m glad I was there.
Going to see em in February but dam would do anything to them then, absolute legends
Reverend, reverend
Is this some conspiracy?
Crucified for no sins
An image beneath me
Lost within our plans for life
It all seems so unreal
I'm a man cut in half in this world
Left in my misery
Reverend, he turned to me
Without a tear in his eyes
Nothing new for him to see
I didn't ask him why
I will remember
The love our souls had sworn to make
Now I watch the falling rain
All my mind can see now is your
Well, I guess you took my youth
And gave it all away
Like the birth of a new-found joy
This love would end in rage
And when she died I couldn't cry
The pride was in my soul
You left me incomplete
All alone as the memories now unfold
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates
Sometimes when I'm alone I wonder aloud
If you're watching over me
Some place far abound
I must reverse my life
I can't live in the past
Then set my soul free
Belong to me at last
Through all those complex years
I thought I was alone
I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she died I should've cried
And spared myself some pain
You left me incomplete
All alone as the memories still remain
The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates
The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates
Gates
Gates
