I genuinely feel sorry for people who aren't into this type of music
Yeah, I feel like there are so few people who like this nowadays

True dude
Metalicas first 4-5 albums holds some of the best music there has ever been
Whoever operated the lights that night was a king.
Much better than the guy the got now in 2022
Yesss I agree!!! 👌
Almost too good. Ain't saying it didn't look exactly like that! Very well could have. Don't know ... wasn't there. Just saying.
@@schwenke069 I'd put money on it being real tbh, a little smoke and a strobe light does some real trippy shit :)
Dude was on fire that night
James in 1985: A kid
James in 1989: A fuckin GOD
he was both depending on what generation you ask
He’s always been a fuckin god, kid or not
Metallica fan or not, you cannot deny how awesome 6:48 looks and sounds, don’t care what anyone says
yeah, the lights design was perfect if you ask me.

Kirk playing the solo in this sounds EXACTLY like the studio recording. Sounds amazing
Kirk Hammet is the eddie van halen of metal.
him sounding like studio is prolly the rarest thing in the last 15 years
And looks so relaxed doing it.
the solos **
@@noahfrost2209 That is the weirdest fucking sentence I've ever read
Jason Fucking Newsted. I miss you in Metallica buddy.
They should have never let him go. Metallica without him was never the same. Legend.

Agreed. Rob is great, but the energy Newsted brought is simply unmatched.
Holy shit that’s the best live version of anything I’ve ever heard!
Watch the whole concert! It’s all this good!
..and it's by Tamellica.
🤘🏻✌🏻
Pantera Domination in Moscow!
Woodstock 99 was an amazing performance too
I was there.
I was at this show, I was 14...It was electric. They killed it. Clean set, no mistakes. Key Arena was a good place to see a show.
Damn No way, Tell us more about it
i saw them at monsters of rock year before in the kingdome. 9th grade....wut a day.......
You're lucky man to attend the greatest Metallica gig recorded on film. 88-89 is Metallica in their absolute prime.
You lucky bastard. I hope you know that you witnessed the greatest live Metal performance of all time
I was there too, a little older at 22, but hell ya, they killed it that night!
Not a single cell phone in sight. What a beautiful time it must have been.
My dad was at the '89 concert. He got thrown over the fence, right in front of Kirk. The story is incredible
💀
Man ya dad cool as shit 😂😂
You were conceived at the concert in the parking lot.
@@lordemalik1923 hahaha he's a dawg

Way more better than the album version. vocals, guitars, bass, drums, everything sound excellent. What a great band they was back then...
Nothing beats the studio version, I love Metallica all the way but they weren't always the best live. Best live version hands down tho
Still are. Nothing will beat this but they’re still great. Sure they have a new sound but let’s all be grateful they’re still touring after all these years.
@Goofie you'd have to teleport back to 89 before phones and when James could still hit these vocals to be able to feel this energy.
@Goofie I have to agree with this. Even seeing them live in 2019, 31 years after this song released, there's nothing that compares to being in the pit for this song. Absolutely transcendental.
@KTV 4U No doubt And I always say that whenever people talk about live concerts, no one is more alive then them, but you can't lie they get a little sloppy no fault of there own and If I was going to listen to them live I would only listen to them up to about 92 anything past that studio versions are better. Besides there snm I liked that for some reason.
Great backing vocals by Jason as always

Man the lighting during the breakdown is insane. The shots of Lars thru the flashes is straight out of a horror movie
5:49 to 6:01 Legitimately one of the best melodies I’ve heard ever.
I like the solo right before that
Absolutely, pure magic.
Not for me, but it's cool. James knows how to do it
@@richardkranium2944 Same dude. One thing I’ve always liked about Metallica. Too many metal bands have solos that are just pissing contests on how fast they can play a few notes. I appreciate how Metallica doesn’t throw melody and rhythm to the wind with a lot of their solos. Pantera is another band with some really good melodic solos.
@@blackzero1956 metallica the best Band in the World for ever

I truly believe if Mozart was to somehow been able to hear this he would have loved loved loved this. I think he would have been amazed. There is so much classical qualities to Metallica's music...

One of the greatest anti war songs ever made, and it's entirely a reference to Johnny's Got His Gun, which was an anti war book written after the first world war. This song is absolute art in it's finest form.
This and War Pigs have to be the best anti war metal songs
Went with my , son and son in-law. AT&T . Told them they have to read, “ Johnny Got His Gun” . It will change your outlook on war. Especially for the young men that have to fight it. Making fat ass politicians from both parties rich.

Incredible ! How the band sounded back then ? Guitars sound was way different than nowadays..

The fact that these guys were only in they 20's playing music this beautiful is beyond word's.
Born after 89. I can't imagine what it would have been like to be there. Best live performance I've ever seen. Holy shit
If I had to choose between going back in time to see this or a million bucks, I'd probably take the million but I'd consider it pretty fucking hard

@@golem3080 I'm not Schizo or anything but imagine there's time travelers there already and it's just a paradox (one big circle). Like that dude who brought a phone camera to the mike Tyson concert
Funny man, I am from 1960 and feeling the same. Music is not a generation thing. I have seen them and it is overwhelming.
Wow I'm not even a fan of rock but this is incredible. How in sync they all are. It's not really music, it's art.
Music is and will always be one of the finest arts.
These guys ruled the 80s.
BE a fan of rock. There's plenty more as good, and way better, as this. Welcome to the silly side.
Is music not one of the best forms of art?
Lol. I know other people have said it but music is art. It’s both haha.
No band will ever come close to the raw energy that Metallica possessed back then.
Early slipknot? You gotta watch one of their shows from 98’ - 04’ they were insane
I've probably listened to this song 1000 times in my life. Always just as insanely heavy and badass as the previous time.
James sounds full of fury here. Love it! Excellent backing vocals from Jason as always. Rob is the better player but Jason beats him hands down for backing vocals and stage presence
Rob is a groove funk bassist originally, Jason is a guitarist learned bass.
Jason put metal in Metallica
@@frostmediaprod344 Jason had the right hand and backing vocals of Doom . He was fuckin beast back then.
Jason had the "just fucking bite into it" attitude. All his backong vocals are awesome. And Metallica songs lend themself for using a pick on the Bass.

nobody can deny that one has one of the most epic guitar solos of all time
This song still goes fucking hard after all these years truly a masterpiece
I like it how all the phones are missing..
Freeking unreal!! James's voice at its pinnacle, Lars's drumming was the mightiest! Good Lord I miss these freaking years, nothing can match it to these days!

Cameraman: "Let's see how lars plays drums"
I miss Jason with these guys. That harmony between him and James is great. These were Metallica's better days so to speak. Of course the early days with Cliff were even better.
I agree. Newsted for prez
Newsted is better in every way, man.
I disagree, Cliff was amazing and a major part of Metallica’s growth as musicians.
By Mr Newstead was hands down the best man to fill the position of bassist. Sadly he’s admitted himself he cannot play this kind of music on a bass anymore due to arthritis.
The camera and lighting work was uncalled for give my mans an endless raise😂😂
The lights, sound and most of all the era when Metallica played it live. Epic and extraordinary
Wow wow WOW the energy of their playing is felt through my phone, 34 years later !!!! Amazing
Yeah, fucking bass can be heard!!!!!!
This is my favourite metallica song and I haven't felt more proud saying that
This song was my introduction to Metallica when I was around 12 years old. I bought the And Justice For All Album back in 1989 and they have been a staple in my life.
Do you still have it?
@@temetykki Nope. Bought the cd many years laters and sold off the cassette.

Man! This show is the absolute pinnacle of their career. It is astounding.
I love bands who put out great studio recordings, then even better live recordings.
Escucha división minúscula no te arrepentirás
Gives me tears watching this. Absolute master piece. Wished I was there for it. The 80s sounded awesome!
Love the pitch change in James' voice at 5:54
these guys are cemented in history. LEGENDS
They are the stuff of legend. Regardless of how they are now, they existed in this state. Completely untouchable.
Goddamn when that strobe light effect takes over that is some great shit.
This James, a real king of lyrics and vocals,a beast of energy, this Jason, a Prince of performance and back vocals, this Kirk’s intro riffs.... all these are the Metallica soul, the soul of my youth... And we’re still going 🤘🏻
this is what you get when the whole band were at their prime.
This is what you get when every instrument (including vocals) is being played at Max Talent! = Certified [LEGENDARY]
Except bass
I saw them in 89 in Calgary, best concert I ever seen. (The crowd after set the LRT on fire), thats how pumped they were. Ahhh, memories.
Setting the LRT on fire is cool ?! What a bunch of schmucks, pumped up and frickin stupid
I was at this show in Seattle, and I'd have to agree this tour was a monster. they were at their prime.
Sometimes in life at certain places. Time stops. And a group of people, become, as one. And something as incredible as this takes place. 9 mins of raw, pure emotion that a few thousand all experienced together. Not one of them will ever forget. Music can and will change you.
A 3 hour drive and the presence of mind to go and I could’ve been there, dang!
ONE of the BEST songs EVER written and played....!!!! GOD YES
Metallica always puts their all in their concerts..Never a disappointment
One was still new in 1989, so by this time they probably played the song less than 50 times in concert. They sound really sharp in this concert.
When that album came out me and my friends were 17 and jammed in my townhouse basement. We tried one but never could tighten it like the boys of legendary metallica. To this day that song makes me feel alive. Thank you metallica.
Easily their pinnacle in songwriting and live performance. Their best album despite the lack of bass guitar.
Always found it interesting how in the album version it says "cut this life off from me" but in concert James Hetfield always say "cut this shit off from me"
I always found it cool too man
wow this is one of the coolest things ive ever seen. their bass player on here made them have a chemistry that wasnt the same after he left.
7:03 that " DARKNESS " !
That. “left with life HELLLLLLLL”. Was spot on
I'm new to discovering metal music and god damn, I have watched this like 5 or 6 times. It's still just as good as the previous listen. I'd give anything to have been alive during the 80's and 90's. This looks so killer to have witnessed in person.
Check out Opeth too. Start with their album Blackwater Park.

Metallica
I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel the scream
This terrible silence stops me
Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there's not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh, please, God, wake me
Back in the womb, it's much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh, please, God, wake me
Now the world is gone, I'm just one
Oh, God, help me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh, please, God, help me
Darkness
Imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body, my holding cell

Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul

Something about that intro with the crowd cheering is so beautiful. It's reminds me of protagonists finally achieving their big goal in a movie. I can imagine how they felt in that stage seeing so many fans, knowing that they made it big.
And holy shit, the heavy part of this song. The lighting makes it 10x better. I could say how I wish I was there but I can't do much about it. I would definitely kill to go back to the past and see this concert.
That Kirk solo is legendary!!!
This whole gig is legendary!!!
Freaking absolutely true ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The amount of energy here is just insane! Best live version of anything.
Imagine the lights go black, you can’t see anything, smoke machines and weed fill the air. Everyone’s screaming. A firework goes off and that’s the only form of lighting you get. Suddenly the 7th beer feels like nothing. You’re sober as shit. You slowly realize THE SONG from 88 is finally coming on.
