Albums like Puppets and Lightning were brilliant, but the Newsted era of Metallica was probably when they were at the peak. Newsted should've stayed, he brought so much energy to the band.
As a Russian citizen wannna tell you that the all fuckin' russian rock community was starving fo this. Fuck war, fuck everyone having a part in this. Thank you guys for Metallica! Thats the phenomen right here
It isn't work now either but it's clear they have no direction like they did back here, they were playing like they were still building up to something in future and had excitement, energy and fun. These days Lars doesn't give a shit anymore, Kirk has no enthusiasm, Rob is good but no enthusiasm like Jason and James is still great but he's not really trying anymore either. They also don't bother with stages like they did for puppets and justice, Lars uses a tiny kit and James doesn't bother with drums anymore.
@@alex8449 that's exactly why I said it was work to them. They do the bare minimum, but because they've been playing those songs for 40 years now, they do it with extreme ease. None of them has fun playing Enter Sandman or Seek and Destroy anymore. I'm quite sure they can't stand it at this point. And the nowdays screams and yells in the mic are well practiced. @Gav Liddle They've had a very long and very successful career and will be remembered for a long long time to come. I say let them rest now, they've earned it.

The tour was too much. They should have had proper rests because James voice was already starting to fade in the beginning of 1992. These shorter gigs like Monsters of Rock 1991 and Lollapalooza 1996 shows how much more effort can be put into individual shows. James sounded the best on those.
@@thedancingguy828 This is where it started then by mid 93 you could really start to hear his voice deteriorating and by 94 it was blown. He needed more rest.

My uncle used to have a shit load of cassette tapes and live concert stuff from basically every metal band you could think of. What really got me into Metallica was he had this box set that had live stuff, some of their music videos I think, had the recordings on cassette of their live stuff, a biography book about them, James Hetfield sketches and album cover designs, etc. The box set was called "Live Shit." It was fucking bad ass. Wish I had a set like that that was never opened. I'm sure they're hard to find these days. Especially on cassette and VCR. I used to go to his house and listen to all sorts of metal bands for hrs and hrs. Learned guitar to some of those old cassettes and guitar tabs.
I still have the Vhs Live shit box set + the dvd version too, have listened and watched the 3 shows countless times, it's a true treasure in my music collection.
Just like day on the green was metallica's best live performance of to whom the bell tolls, this is their best live performance of creeping death, by far. Its like they were possesed that day and their energy electrified the crowd.
