I'd say there were up there with late 80's Metallica but neither Pantera or Metallica could hold a candle to the beast that was Sepultura at the end of 96 just before Max left. I saw them twice in that final week, first at Manchester Apollo and later in London and the Manchester gig is still to this day the best show I've ever been too - even better than the Metallica show at the tiny Astoria II, just a few days before headlining Donington 95.
But I miss Dime. Such a fun guy and while amazingly talented on guitar, he just let it rip and had fun with it.

With the said....He's only playing a 2 note crunch. Dime was so good on guitar he could make 2 notes sound better than 90% of other seasoned guitarists playing all kinds of fancy technical stuff.

Seen all the big ones a few times back in the nineties but the one time I went to see Pantera in a sport hall in Ljubljana Slovenija was the most memorable I have to say. Pantera was a lot about Dimebag of course but that exploding powerful voice of Phil is just insane. Still getting a little wound up listening to these old songs

Pantera was about going on stage and being as phenomenal a group as possible, just by their gift. You can focus on the culture part, but every position at this team is the best in the business. Drums? Bass? Dime? Are we kidding ourselves? The best thing you can teach your kids is that they were practiced, gifted and motivated talent. This is NOT drunk, crazy, random stuff. Every position on this team is an all-star in musical execution.

I'm not going to lie, I'm fairly new to Pantera. I don't know too many of their songs, and I generally listen to a lot of punk rather than metal. Don't get me wrong, I fucking love metal and I always have since I was like 7. Anyways, I can't help but to tear up thinking of Dime's death. There aren't many musicians that show the same passion he did to his music, and there are absolutely no musicians that can even come close to replicating his skill. Rest in peace, Dime. We fucking love you, you legend.
