@@mpwhiteloon2316 The fact that he was so down to earth makes it all the better. Sometimes you meet someone who you really look up to and they turn out to be a jerk, but not him. That's awesome you got to visit his grave. I live outside Cleveland and have been to the Alarosa a few times. They have a little memorial outside. I almost went to see Damageplan that night but it was a little too far away in Columbus (2 1/2 hour drive) and I had to work in the morning. Sometime when your shredding away he might come thru your guitar now!
Dime never met a stranger. If you had a conversation with him, he was a friend. I had the pleasure to see a show in Dallas while I was home on leave from the Marines and had lucked out getting backstage from a bro working security. I didn't want to press in and be a "fanboy" just wanted to say great show. He ended up talking to me for 20 minutes asking me about the Corps, making fun of my hair, steady putting drinks in my hand even I wasn't done with the one he gave me before. I was gobsmacked on how approachable and warm he was. A genuinely nice human being.

SHREVEPORT LOVES PANTERA! Pantera & Shreveport will ALWAYS be connected. If it weren't for us, he'd have never met Phil. The beginning of the end. Who could've known. 😭❤️
Aside from being a great player, Dime is one of the coolest, and endearing personalities to ever appear on the music scene. The world became a bit more grim the day he died.
I get choked up alot when I hear him play. Not out of sadness, but just the sheer, insane level of energy that he played at. He was superhuman on the guitar. He had no boundaries. damn...
No matter how wasted he got, he was always professional enough to realize he had a job to do and he gave the people what they came to see them for. Total annihilation. Solid performances always.
What happened to Modern music. Guitarists and musicans like Dimebag are celebrated by ever small numbers but the mainstream gets worse every year and keeps growing. Thank God for Dimebag. He was amazing.
i miss him so much, i was born in 1993 an i never met him or saw him live. but i feel like i lost a blood brother.. i miss Darrel so much, i remember him every day an night!
This man left a crater on this planet that will never be filled. I can get lost listening to him play. 236 thumbs downs at the time of this post. 236 lost individuals.
Sure there’s more technical guitarists out there not bothering with names but no one can make the guitar scream and sound as cool as dime. Fucking legend, rip dime and vin. Music will miss you guys.😪😪
The neck run he does is kind of basic. But he makes it his own. 1st step is with the index and middle finger on the first and third frets and goes up chromatically. Then he does the same thing with the index and ring finger on the first and fourth frets and repeats the same pattern. The last one is with the index and pinky on the first and fifth frets with that same pattern. Warming up every finger.
You can be 36" taller and standing next to him on the same floor... but his personality will still have you looking up! Yet he was humble at the same damn time!
How does this video have 400 dislikes? Dime was such a beautiful soul. He was a happy and super genuine dude. Cheers to him, his personality, and talents.
RIP Brother.....Such a beast on the guitar.....These guys are crazy, I met him at a bar and I asked a million questions through the nite. And for sure he answered every one like I was the only guy in there. Cool ass dude....
+Tat tood Dude, I love stories like this. He was the only guy that, when you hear stories like this about him, you're like "yeah, I figured he would be like that". And he fucking was.
+Nano B that's how he was man. When you talked to him he listened and talked to you like you were the only person in the world. He never talked down to you or thought he was better than you. Just a really genuine and humble dude.
This is so well known about Dime, loved not just for ability but being a righteous human. True story, I was 13 when my dad came home one day and gave me a beer coaster that Dime had written out to me, it reads “Sean, keep on rockin dude!” With a hand drawn CFH and his autograph. My dad had been playing pool with him all night at some bar and just thought he was cool. After a while the old man catches somebody call him “Dime” and he figures out he’s talking to his teenage son’s idol. My old man ain’t into Pantera but asked for an autograph for me and I still have it framed to this day. This is from right around ‘94. My dad’s awesome too. He still says, “Yeah Im not into metal but that Darrel guy was cool, fun to hang out with.” 🤘🤯
This is heartbreaking, such a giving, kind, positive and open person, to leave us the way he did, such a shame. RIP kind sir. He took a genuine interest in others. Such an amazing characteristic. Never let it go to his head.
This video completely changed guitar for me. I come back to this a couple times a year. Dime was one of those rare beasts who was even better live and in person than on the albums. And boy was he damn good on the albums.
Why the fuck was no one asking him any questions?! I'd have a ton of things to ask him! The coolest, most down to earth guy ever and my inspiration. RIP Dime.
metallichic87 - remember in 1993 there was no internet, social media, internet websites that promoted awesomeness like this. I am 38 yrs old...only thing we had was Metal Edge magazine. I hear ya tho..most of these gremlins in this store seem like old turd folk that just came from Walmart - they had no clue of what they were seeing.
espemg7 ah man i used to love metal edge magazine. went to my old room a couple of weeks ago still has the pages i've ripped out and taped to the wall. Old pantera, slayer, king diamond and sepultura were all on there. Tripped me out lol
I always have to comeback to watch this every so often. He really was/is one of my generations best guitarists of all time...really any generation. RIP DIME you are sorely missed.
He might not have been the fastest or the best in music theory. But he sure as hell was the most influencial and coolest guitarplayer in my opinion. A more down to earth and an caring person you have to look long for. Since im only 18 i unfortunally never got to see them live. Rest in peace Dimebag. I hope i one day will become half as good you were. (Sorry for my spelling, English is not my native language)
He was definitely the coolest guitar player in metal yeah, so was Pantera as a band. There's alot of metal guys and bands who are all like... cheesy, awkward and not cool haha. Pantera was just the most badass really heavy metal band. Same goes for Down. Really seemed like guys you'd want to have a drink with.
Your 200 percent wrong sir. Music theory is the study of practices and possibilities of music. His speed is excellent enough in the metal industry and just cause he doesn't play super fast on all his songs he articulates and throws in just enough, for me, to categorize it as shredding. Which I would definitely call fast. He can play just as fast as let's say yngwie malmsteen but let's leave that style of fast to yngwie. When I want to listen to classical metal I'll go there. I can't think of a more deserving guitarist who portrays possibilities and practice in his genre of music. He's one of the best in that field.
Nathan Gale was a man with severe mental illnesses who was not given the correct medical attention he needed. Couple that with the extreme ease of requiring a firearm in the US and it was a recipe for disaster. Now let me be clear - the act of him killing Dimebag was an absolute crime, but this wasn't just some ordinary fanboy who had a beef with the band. If the Joker film has taught us anything it's that unchecked mental illness can manifest itself in terrible ways, and often the person does not have a full grasp of either their actions, or reality in general.
Man, his playing could’ve been trash and I would’ve watched the whole video. What a cool dude to watch and listen to. So genuinely light hearted and laid back.
@@97Ushan well to be fair that was extremely vague. “Bout 13” could mean that he’s been playing since he was 13 years old or it could mean that he’s been playing for 13 years in general. Depending on when this video was recorded those two answers could be a different number of years between each other. A better question would’ve been, “how long did it take you to get that good?” But knowing dime he still would’ve answered with “bout 13.”
@@kingzuna8007 I wondered the same - in other sources Dime was quoted saying he started playing guitar at about 12 years old. He was born in 1966, which means he likely started playing in 1978. Which means in 1993 when this video was made, he had been playing for about 15 years. But then again, his brother Vinnie tells a story where Dime disappeared into his room with his guitar for a whole summer, and when he emerged he was a virtuoso who could play anything from EVH or KISS. No doubt Dime had a special talent.
Can’t believe that was 30 years ago. It brings a tear to my eye. What can you say other than Dime was probably the most unique and special artists ever. He was one of a kind. RIP.
Not even 3 minutes in and the overwhelming sadness came over me of how he's not with us anymore. He's not acting, he is genuinely that cool of a dude (not that I knew him) but you can just tell he's pure. Imagine Dime in 2021... Imagine him having ahold of an iPhone and some social media. Imagine him knowing what memes are. He could bring world peace in these days I swear. I can only imagine the funny things he would say about this bullshit covid19.

From what I've heard of him sing in videos of concerts and other shit like the home videos, he actually didn't have a bad singing voice haha. I'm sure other than doing some back-up vocals here and there he wanted to be able to give his full attention to playing the guitar when performing live though. God I wish I had been able to see Pantera live, I was born in February 1990 so I was a little too young haha.. by the time I was getting old enough they split up. My first concerts were Primus and Ozzfest in 2004, and I planned on seeing Damageplan when they came around. Damageplans album was definitely good, but it didn't give me the same feelings Pantera albums did. I would have seen any band good or bad if he was playing haha.. he just was such a massive influence on me and playing guitar as I grew up. Eventually saved money from chores to buy a Dean ML-F and other gear he used like the whammy pedal. Learned as many of his riffs as I could, and tried to learn/perfect his solos as I got better. I never was as excited as when I finally figured out the trick to doing the squeals the way he did by dumping the whammy bar haha. I never did get to see him with Damageplan, since he was tragically and senselessly murdered by that cowardly shitbag. Hopefully Dime is at peace wherever we end up after death, as well as the other victims. I feel bad for the audience/band and their crew for having to witness and endure such a brutal tragedy.. as well as the cop who first responded and took action to kill that scumbag. Can't help but think how badly I wish I could've seen him live and met him in person every time I listen to Pantera or watch their home videos/concert footage. RIP Dime you're missed immensely, and your music will continue to have a huge impact on people for generations to come.
Why did he have to die? It makes me hate the world, but I embrace it as well, to know that humanity can produce such a beautiful human being as this. I guess the saying is true, "only the good die young". Randy, Jimmy & Dime.
And he wasn't just only a magnificent guitar player getting better and better, he also was a magnificent person, he was always cracking jokes, i yet have to see a video of him mad at somebody...

What a legend. I would have a thousand questions. This guy, his vibe and music are huge part of my childhood. I was 4 in 1993 but I still remember jamming out to cowboys and all of Pantera throughout the 90s. Dime reminds me of my Dad. Definitely one of his favorites and a major influence on his guitar playing. And a fellow Texan!
You guys were so privileged to see him do this live and solo. Why do the most unique people have to be taken from us so early? You were one of the greats Dime, RIP.

Feels like my guitar is blessed now know what I mean? Anyways yeah I can understand you wouldn't want to part with even a pick lol. That's cool. I'll see him one day when it's my time. Peace brother and keep jammn!
A genuinely nice human being.
i wonder if he knows how much he inspired people to play and made happy i know everone misses him

Aside from being a great player, Dime is one of the coolest, and endearing personalities to ever appear on the music scene. The world became a bit more grim the day he died.

I was lucky to meet Dime quite a bit. The dude was such a chill dude, gave me a pick, signed my guitar, jammed out and drank some Black Tooth's.

Classic Dime

LTFOL !!!!!!
Major, minor and pentatonic. The thing is, start from the second, third or fourth note and keep playing and you’ll find the other five scales.

Not justifying the behavior but he had a mental illness and was off his meds for awhile.. still no excuse for killing a man 😡
@@ICECREAMane1017 also his mom figured it was a good idea to buy him a gun, since he was not allowed to buy one for himself.
Some fucking Deranged idiot did it
Nathan Gale was a man with severe mental illnesses who was not given the correct medical attention he needed.

" bout' 13"
"13 days..?!"
Lmfao

Dime's jam seassion answered that question
@@97Ushan well to be fair that was extremely vague. “Bout 13” could mean that he’s been playing since he was 13 years old or it could mean that he’s been playing for 13 years in general. Depending on when this video was recorded those two answers could be a different number of years between each other. A better question would’ve been, “how long did it take you to get that good?” But knowing dime he still would’ve answered with “bout 13.”
@@kingzuna8007 true shit bro, dime had his own vibe, rip to a legend.
These people did not know how lucky they were to be at a q&a with Dime, let alone be at his presence seeing him do his thing.

Dimebag could have fronted Pantera himself. Who needs vocals when you got someone who can shred like that.
