Haha, I opened this video and somehow misread the runtime as being 30 minutes and though "ah well, that sounds about right". Your comment only made me realize that it's actually 4 hours.... wow!
He could’ve done it ALL within 30 minutes. He talks about his music, his links, himself in general just way too much. If he said “okay this is called this, here goes” BOOM. That could save an hour alone. Then, when he plays… it’s way too long. We understand after 10 seconds honestly. That would save another hour and if he just removed all banter, it would remove even more. So, yeah it’s cool he’s trying to help… But, it’s wayyyy too long for people who want to learn quick so they can meditate. Not sit here zoning out to him playing. I can’t remember anything he said. Only the guitar I had to quit after 20 min.

Wow! Exactly what I was looking for today. I've been watching your videos here and there for the last few months and finally decided tonight to seriuosly start learning the basics to Ambient Guitar. This is above and beyond my expectations for a beginning lesson. Thank you so much Bill.
Dude this is amazing! I also love the fact that you're using jazz-fusion guitars to play ambient, they sound amazing! I'm usually used to people using Strats or Teles, but those Allan Holdsworth Carvins sound super good.
This is fantastically educational and is all applicable to many genres beyond ambient. Thank you so much for providing all of this material, you rock! (but in a beautifully ethereal way of course!)
I'm taking this course slowly, I want to digest and nurture myself with it. It's the motivation that I needed to move from just practicing technique, rhythm, arpeggios, scales, different chord voicings and songs to go and create something, and the deeper into I get, the broader I see the possibilities, so I'm going to embrace what I find following your guide and whatever happens will have happened. Gonna submerge in lesson two and see what can I do with it in a few hours. I'll keep posted
Nice one buddy, I have watched all of these before and learned loads. Now with a second veiwing of them I am learning more than I did the first time! And I'll keep watching again and again until I learn everything. As I said before, Nice one Buddy! Cheers
Ambient guitar is a lot more effects than guitar , so the guitar is secondary if you get lost just wait for all the effects to tail off again so you can actually hear what little you are actually playing !
Wanted to send out a word of thanks. I recently jumped back into a band after 25 years and found that two guitars playing modern music could clutter very quickly. During those times I started using swells and found that to work well. After watching the video and modifying my rack I found that I could get a convincing keyboard/synthesizer sound. Last practice we were due to rehearse a tune from the 80's with a syrupy keyboard intro and dripping monophonic lines throughout. The concepts in the video were very helpful as the keyboard player was unable to make rehearsal that night yet we were able to work on the song as I did the keyboard parts thus allowing the second guitar to occupy the normal rhythm space. I was messing around with the intro of Josie by Steely Dan while tweaking the pedals and starting making ambient beauty. I have a univibe, chorus, and phaser in between my two delay/echo boxes and found that one could emulate the string section of an orchestra, or the church organ. As an aside, learning to tweak the delay pedals against each other helped me put a correctness to my reverb setting which helped when playing straight-up rock lead guitar. I also shared some of the settings with the second guitarist and it does help fill-in the space. Meanwhile I grew up playing Hard Rock and shred. Thank you for this video, it summed-up something that I had actually learned to do already yet was unaware and just needed this wonderful video as a primer to the organized approach that is contained within. Time well spent.

I didn't feel like doing anything actively today ... so I just let the video roll haha! There are lots of things to learn here, I purchased a sampler and I’m gonna record some ambient guitar on it. Hope it works out, I’m gonna add some beats and make a beat for my friends who are rappers. Thank you again sir.
Those tones are amazing. They are mysterious, haunting, almost errie at times. They sound a bit sad and melancholic. Maybe that's just my interpretation. The tones are beautiful but kind of sad. I'm 63 and I only started playing 10 months ago. The only thing I own is a crybaby wah pedal (which I got for free). My amp is a Marshall 215 JMV 50 watt all tube amp. There's a distortion and a clean channel. I don't know how this worked out but I don't know a single chord. But I can play all five Pentatonic and all seven Diatonic scales up and down the fretboard, backwards and forwards, from top to bottom. I try to expand and contract the scale so they don't sound like scales. I like the idea of using intervals. I'm going to have to buy a compressor or an echo box. I do go to Open Mic once a week and as soon as I can figure out the key and the root note I just scale in the background the whole time. If someone is singing I tone it back but if there's an opening I go for it. I'm having the time of my life.
I'm playing uke, but thankfully for me, guitaring classes apply so well. This is great for all stringed instruments and I subbed, really enjoyed this one. Thanks again!
Sightless playing is a must. I've found I'm a lot more relaxed when I don't look. When you're focused on your hands, you're concerned about making the wrong moves or picking the wrong string. And it's really easier than you think.
Thank you so much for sharing this course. I've watched a lot of your videos regarding your gear reviews and you influenced my decisions in a positive way.
Exceptional stuff, man. I’m working my way through this and having a ball. I recently realised that listening to one of my favourite contemporary bands Radiohead, I was drawn to the ‘textural’ sounds that Ed O’Brien was creating. Just piling on here I guess, but thanks so much. I feel free to not be necessarily virtuosic but still able to create, create, create. Blessings from Brisbane Australia. Now I need a better delay and a volume pedal!
Couldn’t help but notice the OBX cup, we just might be neighbors! You really showed me the value in a compressor pedal, I have swarm them off for quit some time as a crutch. Can’t wait to spend some time with this video!

I have been watching you now for over a year and I'm a multi instrumentalist but mainly a drummer so my guitar playing is fair at best I love the music that you make, so getting a chance to try some of these techniques is pretty exciting for me, so I just wanted to say thank you.
Had to stop watching the video just to say thank you sir. I didn't know it, but this is what I've been looking for for so many years. I'm so stupidly happy it's ridiculous.

Didn't know Ser Davos played guitar.
Hahahaha you’ve made my day
No but i know RUDY ABETA !!!
Came here from the thumbnail for this, was not disappointed
LOL \m/
Chords of the Onion
I'm playing uke, but thankfully for me, guitaring classes apply so well. This is great for all stringed instruments and I subbed, really enjoyed this one. Thanks again!
Absolutely floored by their video and the harmonies you produce . Thanks so much for the intellectual pleasure,
Phenomenal course on guitar tones and controls for shoe gazing guitarists who love effects! Brilliant, and friendly teacher!
I come back to this content again and again. Thank you for creating and sharing this.
Ohhh my. Wasn't ready for that. What a massive sound, Wow. NIce set up
Thanks
Thanks very much for the support!!!!
i wish he was my dad! second time watching this video i'm ready to play guitar again none stop
Great content Sir Davos! Keep it up
Loved this, thanks for sharing such incredible info and talent
Great video man ! I had never thought of using pitch shifter to create nice 9th chords like that !
Sightless playing is a must. I've found I'm a lot more relaxed when I don't look. When you're focused on your hands, you're concerned about making the wrong moves or picking the wrong string. And it's really easier than you think.
Interesting point. I’m terrible about looking at my hands.
Thank you so much for sharing this course. I've watched a lot of your videos regarding your gear reviews and you influenced my decisions in a positive way.
thank you for putting in the time and effort to put this together and share! You are a RUclips treasure Bill . 👍👍
I am not from NC, but we go to OBX quite a bit! Spent a week in Ocracoke just a few weeks ago.
@@chordsoforion Right on! Love what you do, man! Maybe I’ll see you around.
We honeymooned in Duck, NC thirty years ago, and have vacationed in other towns in the OBX - great place, but definitely getting more crowded! ;)
This dude knows his gear.
Kudos and thank you, sir.
11:35 I think you're wonderful. I am a music enthusiast, with basic guitar skills. So far, I've learnt so much already! Thank You very much for taking the time to share your knowledge. I've always wanted to learn well. God bless you 🙏✨🎶
Very original and unique approach stylistically. Very impressed. Thank you!
An amazing amount of knowledge is being shared here by this beautiful person! thank you!
This is an amazing lesson. Really clear instruction, that makes the theory of music and guitar very enjoyable to learn, and very digestible. I wasn't looking for this, but I'm so glad I found it. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
You just unlocked the mystery and importance of compressor pedals. Honestly the best description I've ever seen 👏👏👏
Thanks very much!!!!!
-I'm sooo blessed to have found you - Thank you for all the wonderful information !!!! 🎶✨🎵
Mate this is amazing. You are a good man putting this out for us all to learn from. You explain things very clearly and simply. This is a great resource. Thanks very much.
What a brilliant, in depth look at the absolute essentials 👌
Bill - simply amazing. This is one of my favorite RUclips channels.
I was just asking myself yesterday, what happened to you. I haven't seen a video from you for ages. It's good to see you again and see the videos.
Im getting all these ambient sounds from my Boss SY 300. Lotta fun, and appreciate this channel. Also, the style is haunting, reminiscent of Brokeback Mountain Soundtrack.
RUclips algorithm doing its thing. I didn't know I needed this, but boy do I need this (and yes I own a guitar).
You're such a nice guy man. You seem so gentle and considerate as you're explaining this technique. I have been watching you now for over a year and I'm a multi instrumentalist but mainly a drummer so my guitar playing is fair at best I love the music that you make, so getting a chance to try some of these techniques is pretty exciting for me, so I just wanted to say thank you.
Thanks very much Lincoln!
OMgoodness this is a free Masterclass. Thank you I'm a newbie and this is making learning guitar heavenly 😁🔥😁👽❤
Hut ab und alle Achtung! Thank you, Bill, for sharing your knowledge - and for encouraging to keep things going!
Had to stop watching the video just to say thank you sir. I didn't know it, but this is what I've been looking for for so many years. I'm so stupidly happy it's ridiculous.
