As someone learning music theory and started playing in his mid 40s, with an engineer background, this video is pure gold. A big thank you, I always come back to it.
I'm 15, in musical theatre, trying to learn a little more about music so I know what the people around me are talking about. When I was younger, my grandma tried to teach me about music and how to play the piano, but I always refused. She always told me that I'd regret it and I knew, even then, that she was right, I just didn't want to work for it. Thank you for this video!
Dude you could still learn how to play an instrument and learn it well. At 15, your brain is still flexible! I would highly encourage you, even if it's just for a year, to take some classes on some instrument that interests you, often music schools have instruments for rent etc, and it's a huge bonus for discipline (in practicing), and also helping your brain to learn how to learn better! (Obviously I don't expect you to do what I've done, which is almost 11 years of violin with over 3500 hours invested XD)
Currently studying music theory for the first time at 18, this video has been such a great reasource to come back to every time i need to make sense of something, and it also really jumpstarted the process, thanks a million!
In february of this year, I didnt know absolutely nothing about music theory, but thanks to this video I learned so much, I literally studied all around this video for the entire year! It really introduced me into the topics about music theory, I just got everything Woochia talks about and got deep in the topic! Thank you my friend! I can do a lot of things with all this knowledge!
That's amazing! And it's worth noting that the hard work came from you! It's one thing to have the info available, but learning it to the point that you can actually use it, that's on you. Congrats!
Thank you so much! Videos as long as these that are FREE is a really kind gift to all of us struggling to progress through our musical journey. I want to let you know we are very grateful 🙏
Just came across this video while brushing up on some theory ideas - What a pleasure to realise it's the wonderful Woochia, whose brilliant music I've blogged about in the past. Hope you're doing well, seems like things are going awesomely - much deserved, congrats!
It's a pleasure to see you here! Things are good, I've just started working on an album, which means I still have time to do the things I love 👌 Also hope you're doing well! All the best.
Wow, thanks for putting hours of work into this video, besides years of learning about music theory. People, well some people, don’t understand why we should appreciate people like you. 🙏
Sir, you my friend, are amazing. You took sooo much time on this. You did an amazing job and you didn’t even charge for it. The video itself was like a journey from… ‘this is called a key on a piano, a piano is an instrument that creates music through sound waves, sound waves are the vibration of the air that vibrates the ear drum and is received as music when it is vibrated at certain frequencies. Frequencies….. hahaha amazing, incredible and in all ways phenomenal 🏅✨ Thank you
I've been playing music now for over 10 years without any knowledge of proper music theory. Now I'm really trying to push to be a professional musician, so i thought its finally time to learn. Thank you for making this so easy! Your explanations and examples make this an absolute gem. This feels like I'm taking a College course for free! You deserve a lot more for the effort you put into this.
This video finally made all the bits and pieces of music theory I knew fall into their place. Yes, it's dense, and I watched some segments more than once to get it, but oh boy, now it all makes sense. Thank you so much!
5th time through and it's all beginning to come together, a few more times on the 9th chords and modulation and I should fully understand it. I appreciate this so much as I learned at my own pace and was able to put everything into practice as I learned. You are an amazing human being for this. I thank you deeply for helping me through this.

Just pure gold, no kid's games. I really do not know how can you share such knowledge for free, cause I have taken music theory course and had learnt maybe third of this. I will support your channel on my next salary :D . Thank you very much.
Thank you :) when I started out, I wanted both my courses to be free as I thought this was missing on RUclips. But maybe I'm also a very bad businessman :p
It's absolutely comprehensive 👏👏👏👏 thanks for your help bringing all in one video. Bits and pieces learnt all these years and in perspective we could visualise it is complete picture of music theory. Easy to relate each other and memorization, Thank you 🙏
Thank you, i always wondered how actual frequences related to notes and scales. As a linguistic student that have studied the actual sound waves of human speech and different phobemes its really interesting to see what makes a scale a scale
This is hands down the best music theory video on RUclips! I wish I could digest all this information in 1 go, but it seems I'll have to come back to it regularly. Thank you so much for this series!
I recently joined Sound engineering diploma and this will a great addition to it. Makes me want to go deep into sounds and music. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge. Will keep seeing this course multiple times until it becomes familiar!!!😀😀🙏🙏🙏
Wow, this video has opened my mind. I have studied harmonics for 1 year as a part of my college syllabus(EEE). But never have I thought this is how harmonic study creates music. I have to improvise my prior knowledge with this new one and see how synchronizing helps to appreciate the beauty of music and Power electronics.
Thanks ! I know the pace is kind of fast, so if you want to read it instead, don't hesitate to check my website woochia.com. it's free on there as well
00:27 🎶 Sound is defined as a vibration of air, which travels through particles, creating pressure changes. 01:11 🔊 Consonance is based on the simplest frequency ratio; lower ratios like 2:1 and 3:1 sound more harmonious. 03:11 🎼 The pentatonic scale, with five notes, is widely used across various music genres globally. 05:06 📏 Sounds generally vibrate at multiple frequencies, including fundamental and overtone frequencies, affecting tonal quality. 10:16 🔄 The circle of fifths is a method for tuning instruments that creates a specific order of notes based on harmonic relationships. 11:11 🐺 The wolf interval occurs when tuning fails to converge correctly, leading to dissonance in music scales. 13:46 ⚖ Equal temperament tuning equalizes intervals across the chromatic scale, allowing for versatile key changes but sacrificing some harmonic purity. 15:40 🏡 Major and minor scales differ based on their root notes, with relative minor scales sharing the same notes as major scales. 19:41 🎹 Chords are formed by a combination of root notes, thirds, and fifths, determining whether they sound major (happy) or minor (sad).
I'm a beginner and English is not my first language, but you explained everything so clearly that I understood almost everything! I rarely leave comments like this, but it's the best I can do. thank you for this monumental work! 🙏
NB: the root note of a scale must be called Tonic, not Fundamental. Because Fundamental refers to a chord. Tonic, (like Dominant, etc..), refers to the scale (inside which chords can be made.) Important because it must be clear that in a scale we have only one Tonic (or Dominant, ... ), but... seven possible Fundamentals (one chord per note, so seven chords, each one with a different Fundamental). Apart from that, been up to 16mn now, very good job. Congratulations.
Thanks so much Sir for sharing the knowledge. I play lead guitar and am about applying what have learnt from you to my music knowledge. It really helpful. Kindly put we the lead guitarist into consideration in future lessons. It's just 10 mins in video and i have learned things that i didn't even learned in past 6 months . Damn its getting more interesting with the time Thanks for making this video brother
How a wonderful course. Thank you so much. I studied frequency in Doctorate Degree. Music and Frequency are an engineering science. Your video is so detailed. You surprised me so pleasedly.
OMG thank you, bro! You made it all click for me...great approach. Fundamentals...waves...the entire universe is waves... frequency...harmony...phasing...waves.
This is absolutely fantastic; I’ve been studying theory from different sources, but I’ve always felt like said sources were just dumping a bunch of notions on me - THIS is different, it’s explaining the “why”s in a quite satisfying way and I love it. I had already liked the video, but when I heard the 4th pun I instinctively reached for the thumbs up again 🤣🤣🤣
Did some cadence practice and had so much fun! After I was finished did I come to the realization that I was trying to make every scale degree a major chord and I was wondering why they would not fit in the scale. I learned multiple lessons in that exercise and I look forward to any other exercises coming my way!
The reality is, I've been in ensembles since elementary school, studied primary instruments for years, and taken 10+ theory courses in my time as a music educator. I still feel like I haven't seen, heard, or learned it all. However, this is a great 3 hour introduction or review of how SIMPLE learning music can be with practice.
Thanks! Yes, this is a compilation of originally 5-minutes videos that were supposed to be fast and condensed... on a 2h30 I don't expect anyone to watch this is one sitting or without ⏪ Ng a few times ^^"

Been playing for 2 years. This video is fantastic!!! Thank you so much 👏
This is exactly what I wanted
A long video explaining all the details in music theory
Simple and beautiful explanation
Thank you
Having watched the top played videos, those 'Half hour music theory' only leave me with more questions. Also grateful for someone finally stopped demonstrating keyboard with their hands on
Most amazing job ever done on youtube and I am not even reached half of this lecture while putting this comment, God bless you bro with all the success you deserve
Just by seeing the views of this vid, we could really tell that only 974k people are brave enough to study the Music Theory 😂. Great tutorial
@@Woochia Or you are just a great personn who thinks about comuniity to grow rather than ego satisfaction , thank u very much once again🥰🥰🥰
May God always bless people like you
This is the best music theory video I’ve ever seen, it makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome ! :)
That was incredible. I have been learning bass for a while, and looking at this video, I finally understood everything. Many Thanks man. Really
This is hands down the best music theory video on RUclips! I wish I could digest all this information in 1 go, but it seems I'll have to come back to it regularly.
Thank you so much for this series!
Thanks! This was meant to be 28 videos put into one. I would be surprised if anyone could digest it all in one sitting 😅
This has been the single best way to learn music theory for me and I can't believe such an incredible resource like this is free. Thanks so much!
I'm happy this was useful, thanks :)
i admire the fact that you could give us who can't afford music school a chance to educate ourselves. You are deeply appreciated.
Thank you very much, and it's my pleasure :)
I recently joined Sound engineering diploma and this will a great addition to it. Makes me want to go deep into sounds and music. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge. Will keep seeing this course multiple times until it becomes familiar!!!😀😀🙏🙏🙏
Thank you bro...❤ You are doing a great work..all the best.
Thanks a lot :)
This is the best video about this topic I’ve ever seen! Thanks a lot for your great work!
Thanks a lot :)
Many books compressed in three hours. That's music to my two ears!
Haha enjoy ;)
Wow, this video has opened my mind. I have studied harmonics for 1 year as a part of my college syllabus(EEE). But never have I thought this is how harmonic study creates music.
I have to improvise my prior knowledge with this new one and see how synchronizing helps to appreciate the beauty of music and Power electronics.
This is like a service to humanity. I can't thank you enough. This is brilliant.
I stopped my music theory classes two years ago but this easily made me want to pick it back up. You're a real one for this. Thank you so much.
That's amazing! Hope you have a great time picking this up again :)
Incredible sequence of information. I'm finally understanding it all. I thank you for sharing this knowledge.
Happy if that unlocked something :) thanks
Thank you for making this course, not easy stuff to comprehend but necessary if one is serious about understanding how music is constructed.
Thanks ! I know the pace is kind of fast, so if you want to read it instead, don't hesitate to check my website woochia.com. it's free on there as well
This is the rarest gem. Thank you so much. This course is priceless. Thank you for helping us!
My pleasure :)
Thanks a lot :) I'm so glad that helped
Mad respect for literally putting out a 3 hour course for FREE on yt
NB: the root note of a scale must be called Tonic, not Fundamental.
Because Fundamental refers to a chord. Tonic, (like Dominant, etc..), refers to the scale (inside which chords can be made.)
Important because it must be clear that in a scale we have only one Tonic (or Dominant, ... ), but... seven possible Fundamentals (one chord per note, so seven chords, each one with a different Fundamental).
Apart from that, been up to 16mn now, very good job. Congratulations.
Yes you're right! I was not very rigorous on this terms in the beginning of this series ^^"
Thanks so much Sir for sharing the knowledge. I play lead guitar and am about applying what have learnt from you to my music knowledge. It really helpful. Kindly put we the lead guitarist into consideration in future lessons. Expect more likes, sharing and comment from colleagues coz i will inform all of them about how your channel have really help the musicians 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
It's just 10 mins in video and i have learned things that i didn't even learned in past 6 months . Damn its getting more interesting with the time
Thanks for making this video brother
this is so well edited mate thank you
Do you think this music theory video will help me with learning how to play the lyre harp?
@@Ekaterina-nc7cp music is music, I feel it would apply
How a wonderful course. Thank you so much. I studied frequency in Doctorate Degree. Music and Frequency are an engineering science. Your video is so detailed. You surprised me so pleasedly.
OMG thank you, bro! You made it all click for me...great approach. Fundamentals...waves...the entire universe is waves... frequency...harmony...phasing...waves.
... vibrating in 9 dimensions ... 😱
Wonderful video and amazingly clear explanations, will check the sound design next.
Hope Zoro and Sanji don't give too many problems over there :D
Fascinating video! Thank you so much! Will have to watch several times to absorbe it all!
Brilliant in its simplicity. Everything one needs to know. Very well done sir!
Cool video!
A good way to practice this, is by trying quizzes or puzzles about music theory!!
Trying to test out of music theory in college, this is the perfect refresher. Bless
Thanks! I am self-learning piano and I cannot thank you enough. I hope the best for you and your channels. I will make sure to revisit them.
Thanks a lot! Hope this will be useful and that you'll enjoy playing piano!
This video unlocked my third eye. you explain everything in way that makes since. theory seems a little less intimidating now!
Thanks a lot for your feedback! Coming from a music educator, that means a lot :)
This is absolutely brilliant. The only thing is you speak and introduce new terms really quickly. Makes it hard to follow at normal speed.
Thanks! Yes, this is a compilation of originally 5-minutes videos that were supposed to be fast and condensed... on a 2h30 I don't expect anyone to watch this is one sitting or without ⏪ Ng a few times ^^"
Outstanding pedagogical skills!
You give me more than 16 years of education, THANK YOU
you are amazing at explaining things, this video was very well explained and I'll come back to watch it some more times
awesome! a lot of the music theory videos on youtube are a bit too basic for somewhere who has moderate music theory knowledge, but this is perfect and amazing for someone who knows just a bit more than the average beginner :) thanks so much!
