    A 2010 Ford Explorer Limited comes into our shop today. Customer stated the transmission is slipping at times, shifting rough at times, and sometimes working appropriately. Customer also stated the issues arise generally after the vehicle is warmed up or after driving highway speeds.
    What are we doing today?
    We will be installing the Ford Servo Bore Fix Kit provided by AJ1E Superior Solutions, LLC (www.fordservob...)
    What are we using to complete the work?
    Custom snap ring pliers as well as the kit containing new snap rings, O-rings, and both the OD and IM servo. We will also be using some sil-glyde along with common hand tools such as a 13mm non-ratcheting wrench.
    Do you have any concerns about today's work?
    No concerns installing the kit. We are curious to see if the kit resolves the issues the customer has been experiencing.
    Why did you decide to do this?
    Customer stated they took this Explorer to the dealership where they originally purchased the vehicle. The dealership reported back to the customer that everything appeared in good working order, no rough shifting was experienced during their test drive and with no engine codes present, they would need to wait for a time when the issue could be recreated or an engine code was revealed.
    Upon this news, customer asked if we would take a look at the vehicle and more specifically, if we would be willing to simply install this Servo Bore Fix Kit produced by AJ1E Superior Solutions, LLC. We agreed to complete the work for the customer.
    What transmissions are affected by this issue?
    Per the AJ1E Superior Solutions, LLC website, the 5R55 SERIES - 5R55W, 5R55S, 5R55N, 5R55E, 4R44 SERIES - 4R44E, 4R55E, A4LD transmissions are in scope. www.fordservob...
    What's your favorite thing about working in the shop?
    In this specific case, our favorite part of this job is assisting our customer while hoping it resolves the issue they have been experiencing with their vehicle.
    What would you improve, if anything?
    If there was a difficulty score or rating for this work, it would be very low as indicated by the producers of the servo bore fix kit. If I was asked about the difficulty of completing this work without a lift, I would say 2.5 out of 5, simply because of the tight spaces and the potential fits the snap rings and servos can throw when attempting the change. On the other hand, I also believe that we would be much more time efficient after completing this work one time. We certainly are now familiar with the INs and OUTs of this job.
    Any additional thoughts?
    Yes, if you are completing installation of this Ford Servo Bore Fix, please refer to and utilize the step by step instructions and instructional videos on the AJ1E Superior Solutions, LLC web site.
    What's coming to the shop in the future?
    A 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD with an active P0299 Turbo Under Boost code. This fix isn't straight forward for sure and we hope you'll join us for that shop adventure.
    Are you able to do lots of work in a limited space?
    Yes, without question. The biggest issues I face in our 2 stall garage is organization. Keeping the workspace organized and both stalls clear of clutter really helps with motivation, which then helps with productivity. Basically, if I see a clean workspace, I'm much more ready to dive into a project or even just scheduled maintenance like today's oil change.

      I saw that question two times now and you always ask what part they are talking about. They talk about the white plastic ring on the rod of the servo and no you don't take them off. Push the servo in as it is. Unfortunately thats the most important part on a video you weren't explaining at all. What the servos do we know. How to uninstall all the stuff around we know. But how to install them, push them in and what to do you just skipped. ...

    I have one of these 07 Explorers that definitely has shifting issues, been looking for this info for a while now, thanks so much for posting up the video and esp the fix solution link.
    Incidentally my issue is primarily with the OD gear not setting firmly in the 45-55 mph range, if I use the manual OD lockout it seems to fix the issue for the most part in that speed range, as it will stay in OD pretty well going 60 mph and above. It seems to slip and not shift down properly anymore when getting in that mid highway speed range. Also my Explorer (v8 Sport Trac Limited) only has about 85k miles on it so this problem doesn't really have to be "high mileage" related.

    Hey Man, Great work with your video!!! I have a 2004 Explorer with the 5R55S, and the problem is that the gear slips from
    2-3rd, and it would delay going into reverse, we bought a used transmission and again we got the same problem 4 months after it, I researched and found out about this servo bore issue and decided to buy it, today. I'm crossing my fingers this will fix my problem. I do get OD light on my dashboard when the transmission is slipping to much.

    my 2010 explorer is having a similar issue I think, mostly happens in higher gears but around 1500 rpm if I get on the gas it jerks and kicks around then if you give it enough gas it downshifts, it also happens at other rpms if I really give it the beans it feels like it downshifts multiple times then the rpm kinda flutters instead of steadily gaining and it kicks as well, I got the car with 90k miles, fluid was never changed and Im not changing it now, im at 130k, Had a similar issue about 10k miles ago with misfiring but turned out to be my ignition coil on 3 and 4, however now im getting no codes, zero lights nothin

    Hello, 2005 Lincoln Aviator. Hard shift at 1-2 gear and no OD. I ordered the OD servo kit from the same company.
    I have a lot of mechanical experience but since I work constantly I called around to a few shops to get this done. 4 out of 5 shops refused to take the job. The one that did had a 4 week work order. And the repair for labor wasn't cheap.
    What did you charge for the job??
    Also another RUclipsr used a bottle jack to push the servo in due to what he stated was a strong spring.
    Seems all you had to do was slightly spin the servo til it falls in correct???
    I have many more questions but Ill save them. I am going to do the job myself. At least that way I know it was done right.

    • @2StallGarage
      @2StallGarage  Год назад

      I charged my customer $260 to do the work. They purchased the kit themselves. CORRECT, put medium pressure on the servo cap (while rotating) basically... medium pressure, rotate, medium pressure, rotate... repeat until it goes in. It will go in eventually... no stress.. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

    • @2StallGarage
      @2StallGarage  2 года назад

      If the bands are adjusted too tight, it can restrict the transmission fluid from lubricating properly and cause excessive wear to the (band) and or drum. I followed Ford's adjustment specs for that transmission. Good question.

    Hi, I have an 06 ford explorer with a 4.0 V6 engine. The Transmission was recently worked on because all the gears stopped engaging
    After the work on the transmission, the wrench signal is still showing and only gears 1 and 4 and reverse only are engaging. Gears 2,3 and 5 do not engage at all.

      @tojeagugo6593 2 года назад +1

      @@2StallGarage I don't think I got a full summary of everything but initially it wasn't engaging in reverse and drive but after they worked on it (which involved them taking down the gear entirely and loosening the internal parts) it began to move.
      Although since then when I accelerate after I start the car the spanner light comes and the engine revs up to 4000-5000 rpm before it changes to the next gear. Whenever we scanned the vehicle for codes it brought up incorrect gear ratios in gears 2, 3 and 5.
      It was only a few days ago we discovered that gears 2, 3 and 5 weren't engaging at all which kind of explains why the engine would have to rev so high just to change gears.

      You’ve got an interesting issue. It sounds like it’s time for a rebuild or replacement transmission, however; if you wanted to try the servo replacement, you first will want to check the bands on your transmission.
      To do this, you’ll need an inch pounds torque wrench and the torque specs from Ford for that specific transmission. Basically, if they torque up to spec, the bands aren’t broken. If they don’t torque up, they are broken.
      That test doesn’t rule out bands that are very wore and needing to be replaced (even if they torque up).
      You could also take your servos out and see if the shaft is broken or wore on each servo.
      These are my thoughts. If I was closer, I would be happy to take an initial look for you. -Justin

    I have 2004.. 4.0.. 5r55s and I have no reverse or drive.. but 1st 2nd and 3rd works great.. is it bands?

    • @2StallGarage
      @2StallGarage  2 года назад +2

      Hey Travis, it’s hard to pin point what might be causing that. Typically a band issue would cause slipping or hard shifting or both. These symptoms tend to vary depending upon trans operating temp, driving conditions, etc. Drive & reverse missing might lead me to check out the shift solenoid pack.

    • @Hospital_corpsman
      @Hospital_corpsman 2 года назад +2

      That’s what I figured as well even after changing the shift solenoid pack still no reverse of drive but it would move in low 1,2,3 there’s only select few transmission shops that will adjust the bands but with these transmissions your lucky if you get another 20 thousand miles before it craps out again

    I have a 07 ford sport track with a 5r55s trans it had a hard shift so I replaced it with the updated servos now it won't shift out of 1st. I tried to do a manual tcm reset but I couldn't find good Instructions I don't know if it's that or if something went bad. I did alot or studying and talking to people thats why i leaned to the servos, it is a common problem with that trans. . help?

      Ah man. Stinks when this type of stuff happens. Did the bands torque up appropriately? What was the process you used to install the kit?

    • @ronhat-nx6yq
      @ronhat-nx6yq 8 месяцев назад

      Yes! I have a 2003 explorer that I had a rebuilt transmission installed. A couple months after the installation, the OD light came on but vehicle still ran ok. Person who did the installation said it was probably just an erroneous error and if it did not cause any noticeable driving problem to continue driving it. The transmission was installed 3 years ago and it has always given the OD light but two weeks ago, it jumped into a higher gear when accelerating from stop. On the same day it would not move from park even in reverse or any forward gear but this only happened once. It then drove OK. I decided to see if the transmission fluid was low and when I removed the bottom plug, the transmission fluid was very black. So I replaced the filter and installed new fluid. Now the vehicle will not move either forward or reverse in any gear.@@2StallGarage
