You are a legend man. You just save me a lot of money. I took my explorer to a transmission specialist they told me that it will cost around 4k to fix it. Thank you so much for the info. You are helping a lot of people...
Thank you for the great info on this transmission repair. I am a independent repair technician w 20 + years experience. I look everywhere for information to repair cars. I used this repair on my neighbors Explorer. Worked perfectly. He had went to transmission repair shop and was quoted a very expensive transmission rebuild estimate. I did some online research and came across this repair and recommended to give it an attempt before pulling the plug on the explorer. He drove the explorer for several months before selling the vehicle and as far as I know its still going strong.
I have used this product myself on a coworkers explorer....its been not quite 4 years 60k miles and still shifting strong with no problems....If you plan on installing the kit yourself you can make it a lot easier by cleaning and soaking the snap rings a few days before the doing the job. I also opted to get both modified snap rings and pliers with the kit. It was well worth the extra money considering how much easier it makes the job and the money you will save by not replacing the trans.....I wish they made the same kit for my ford focus....
200k + miles and I just got this issue, im the second owner and I got my 2003 explore at 20k miles! I’m going to use this video and fix it myself!! Thank you very much!!
Amazing how things never change. In the early 80's when I was still an early teen, my Dad made quite a bit of extra money on the weekends fixing Ford C4 automatics with intermediate band failures. One of the improvements he made back then was to machine a couple o'ring grooves in the servo piston rod to stop the leakage past the worn out bore. Those usually started to fail at around 35,000 to 40,000 miles and was most common after Ford switched from Type F fluid to the original MERCON fluid, which I believe was no different than the GM Dexron fluid of that time.
That's why I NEVER, EVER keep MERCON or Dexron in any vehicle. I always use Amsoil ATF and have ZERO problems in any vehicle I've ever owned. I don't whine about how expensive Amsoil is. I just put it in and forget about it.
A trans builder told me that this problem is because Fords 5 speed trans was actually derived from a 4 speed trans. 95-96 Explorers had a 4R55E transmission. By using additional combinations of bands they were able to create 5 speeds, and probably gained .2 mpg per vehicle for CAFE. The problems is you are working parts now twice as hard. By 100K you already have 200K wear on that bore. Not that the 4R55Es are perfect, but they will generally last longer. These transmissions have their heritage in the Pinto. Also, those servos sit right near the cats and the seals get cooked too.
Based on my vast research on this issue, the cheapest and easiest preventative measure (before it fails) is, to take the two servos out and break down the SHARP edges on the servo shaft/pin where the grove is. The edges act like a knife to the Aluminum block. Either use a lathe or a small dremmel. I just want to share the idea, and the main credit goes to @Danny Treplet!
Thank you for this knowledge and super Bonus points for SLAYER!!!! I watched this because I'm having problems with slipping and a clunking/ bang sound on 2007 ford explorer sport Trac 4x4 v8. Coincidently, the mileage is just under 50k in December 2018 (yes, actual miles, not altered odometer).
I wanted to say thank you for this information because about 6 mouths ago I sent a customer to a transmission shop that I know does great work he had the explorer for about a week and couldn't figure it out and gave the truck back fully rebuild with these flare ups he did the work free of charge because it wasn't right
So I installed the overdrive Servo a few years ago, roughly 60,000 miles ago. I'm now at 155000 on my 2003 Ford Explorer and just exhibited the same symptoms on my way to work this morning. Is there a video anywhere on how to change those consumable gaskets on the rod of the servo?
Besides the great knowledge of the matter. Very Good Video! Excellent explanation! Very Clear description! Proper tone and Rhythm ! This is a Professional training video! Keep making more videos!!!!
I like your fix for the video that shows the installation is spot on! Just put on some Slayer in the background and you'll get a sense of how to do this repair! Of course you need slayer, it opens your mind and it is relaxing!
Man, you sure know your stuff. Thanks for your informative videos. BTW...Thanks Ford for copying GM's stupidity with the Chevy Vega's engine having aluminum cylinder bores being scraped with chrome piston rings...all designed to keep automakers afloat by supplying replacement parts and service to us poor customers.
yeah.. that was definitely the death of the vega! But it was a great looking car back then! I particularly liked the station wagon variant. Then along came the 350 conversions!!! Ahh the madness!!!
My 2004 Exploder needed the repair described - cost me $4,000 to fix. The shop used the brass sleeve method. I sold it three years later, and it was still working just fine.
Let me start by saying "Thank You" You have no idea how many times I have relied on your videos or advice you give, on Ford vehicles! I will try to keep this brief. My son has 02 Explorer. He works at Oriellys & hes 20 yrs old. (Point being:he don't make a lot of $$)His vehicle has started all the signs of a typical 5r55w, OD light flashing & very erratic shifting of gears. (Sometimes not shifting) I am your typical backyard mechanic. I've worked on cars my whole life. There is nothing I haven't worked on over the years. My intent in regards to my Sons Explorer, is to go to my local junk yard this weekend. Take a similar tranny out of another Explorer, & then doing the servo bore repair, adjust the bands & anything else needed to make a good tranny. My question is, once I'm at the junk yard & looking to remove the trans, what would be some good things to look for or NOT look for on the replacement? I don't want to pull one that ends up needing more attention that what I already planned! I'm pretty sure that I could remove the pan from the trans to inspect it, before I remove it. There's an abundant amount of Explorers to chose from!
Glad I got rid of my then new Mustang back in 2009. It was a 2005 and withing the first 3 months it gave me a tone of problems. Luckily they were all covered under warranty but having you car in the shop so often when it is brand new is not the way to go. I experienced these problems within 3 months of taking the car off the lot.
Great video, Have you ever seen a snap ring start to come out of the groove? My explorer developed an ATF leak and I notice the snap ring was almost half way out of the groove on the large bore. I need to get a better look, but it looks like the groove is intact. I am not sure if I can just push the cap back in and reseat/replace the snap ring or if it is a sign of a much bigger problem. My servo bores were repaired about 200.000 miles ago. The transmission was working fine until
2005 Ford Explorer 4wd v6 advancetrac Usually, from Drive to Reverse, there is a delay, and sometimes, you think the reverse engaged, only to engage after you start accelerating, (I have destroyed an older explorer transmission this way braking the band). I thought it might be dirty oil or the solenoid pack, but after watching your awesome video I wonder it this is the part that will fit my explorer and what you think I should do aside from dropping the pan cleaning/replacing oil/filter etc. Thanks in advance!
Ford should have used a reinforced rubber seal on that rod where it slides into the case bore. That way, the seal eventually wears instead of the case. You can pull the servo with the transmission still in the car and replace the seal on the rod or the rod assembly complete with seal.
Thanks for the vid. I have a 3ltr turbo ranger with the 5r55s. I have done the solenoid clean, the band tightening and changed the oil. Things are a lot better but it still is a little heavy on all the changes depending on conditions but what I would like to ask is it has a slow take up in 1st and reverse. Any ideas on what would need fixing to solve this problem. Thank Bob
Thanks for the great video. I have a 2005 Lincoln LS V8 Are: the codes you mentioned Will they show up on my regular code reader and / or will the check engine light come on? Or are those codes only displayed internally. Also, I'm having a problem shifting from 3rd to 4th And don't know if it's the servos or the solenoid packs. Of course, transmission shops just say rebuild the transmission. I'm thinking this car has only a pampered 106k Miles and shouldn't need a rebuild yet. Thanks.
Just had a mechanic do my kit today. Still the exact same dam problem, so now I am down $250 for the kit and parts as well as $300 for the mechanic. I have only done about 15 miles on it so far, so I am praying that somehow it will break in and be fixed.
you're a hero, my 02 Explorer XLT, it just hit 202k Miles and I need this fix, thanks for the Video LMK what you drive Ill send you our N2 LED kit, THANKS AGAINS
My '07 EB Explorer has developed an odd shifting problem that's very intermittent. There are two symptoms. First, it flares on the 2-3 shift. Second, cruising at 55-60 MPH, the engine will suddenly freewheel as though the transmission has disengaged. It acts like it's in Neutral, and the vehicle gradually slows down. The vehicle can sometimes be driven for an hour or more, and neither of these symptoms will occur. In fact, we just had the throttle body replaced (a mis-diagnosis of this problem), and the mechanic drove it 45 minutes afterward without an issue. The problem also doesn't seem to be related to temperature. Sometimes it does it from a cold start, sometimes after it gets hot. There's just no pattern to when or where it fails. The first time this happened, the "wrench" symbol lit on the dash. My wife pulled over, let it sit about 20 minutes, and it drove fine after that (15 miles home). No codes ever show up when this problem occurs. Does any of this sound like a familiar problem?
engineres build it to last forever just to see if they can. then they back engineer everything with components that are designed to fail timelywith use to insure what is know as pre engineered maintenace schedules that make huge parts profits for the manufactuer and repair facilities.
The problem isn't engineers it comes down to marketing. Coming from a family of engineers they want stuff to last but that becomes too expensive so ford makes them cut corners to save money. Then stuff like this happens
We had to major leak from the transfer case adapter on our 2002 ford ranger 4wd it was driven home the leak repaired. Now sadly the transmission will shift into all of the gears, but will only actually drive in 1st and 2nd gear. Reverse & drive/ overdrive acts like no power however it tries... could the servos be our problem??? One more question the repair kit has two servos and the chamfer tool but the video did not mention how to use the chamfer tool? thanks for your video and information very helpful.
I have a 2004 Ford Explorer AWD with 150K+ Miles on it. It started having a jolting POP when it is going from 1st to 2nd gear. I had the codes read and it came back with a P0745 just as the commenter Jackson Cruz asked below in the comments. Could this be a Servo issue or a faulty solenoid pack? You have been a huge help since I bought this vehicle. Thanks.
Showing the symptoms you described for a problem with the OD servo/solenoid. Would I also get the "OD OFF" light flashing when the fault occurs? I'd like to narrow this down to either a problem with either the solenoid B or the servo.
+FordTechMakuloco can you do this fix before issues arise from this type of Transmission im looking at a 2002 ford explorer v8 here in New Zealand and want to know if you can fit the replacement servo in there before it shits out or do you have to wait till it sloggs out enough to fit the new one in
Ordered my kit and it’s on its way. I’ll keep you posted how mine turns. My mustangs transmission lost 3rd gear. It flares and it’s so annoying. I didn’t realize how much that gear is used.
Oh, wow, were you right about the music. Certainly not what I have on when I'm wrenching on my vehicles. I had an '03 Explorer and when I sold it at 130k miles, I hadn't experienced this issue. Must have gotten one of the good units.
Thank for sharing your knowledge. How can a novice determine whether it is the servo or the solenoid. I've heard of do-it-yourselfers replace the solenoid pack then find out that wasn't the issue.
@@deadpossum100 I am in the same situation did you come up with anything? First and second does not pull barely in mine third fourth and fifth however Do No engine codes at all and another thing is I had to manually select gears
If it's a 4R series they work. As the issue is the OD servo bore gets bored out from years of use. The kit fixes the chatter from 3rd to OD. There is also new upgraded Fluid Ford sells to stop the issue to start with. If you lookup Sonnax website. It has trouble shooting help tabs. Which helps you buy the right kit... If you do this in the vehicle. You need a roller to hold the band in place or the servo pin can miss it. Then you get nothing. Some issues are internal. You will need to take it out. Just all depends if you service it like the manual tells you...
Help, please, I'm looking for help to fix my transmission. After it sits for a couple hours or first thing in the morning it shifts perfectly. Put it in drive, no problem, come to a stop sign. No problem after it warms up. Then it starts to hesitate and shake back-and-forth. I have to put it in number 3 to pull off smoothly. Then shift into drive. Could you please tell me what the problem could be?
LOve your video clip. But I missed something. You said you put a video clip below somewhere for more info. I'm looking for that video clip, I don't see it anywhere.
Got my 05 Mustang on blocks and getting ready for install. Besides the rear mount bracket and drive shaft, is there any other bolts to remove in order to get enough clearance?
Thanks for this My OD Off indicator has just shown on my dash and I'll give this a go and I'm sure it will work beautifully and save me a ton of money Thanks again
Slayer, hell yeah. Awesome vids man. Unfortunately I just got hosed on a purchase. 07 Exploder Sport Trac 4.8L. Cold tranny, test drive fine. After 2 hrs home, rolling stops and take offs, no go. No hard shifts, just doesn't seem to downshift or grab. 120k miles. Do you think I'm past this repair working and onto a complete rebuild or should I give this a shot? Your Awesome. Thanks.
I have one here in an 06 explorer, fully rebuilt, new clutches, bands and seals/gaskets. Shifts good 1-4 but as soon as it hits OD it revs out like it goes to neutral.
Hello FordTechMakuloco, thank you very much for posting this video. I inherited a 2006 Ford Explorer 6 cylinder 2WD that had transmission work done on it October 2013. Now we're in October 2016 and the overdrive band is burned. I understand this kit is a preventative measure, but since I'm on the opposite end of it, do you recommend I fix this transmission and then apply your kit for future preventative measure? Because the other option I'm considering is shopping junkyards for full transmission replacement. Any insight you could provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Love the videos you have. My 2003 explorer when cold goes into rev and drive sluggish like its in neutral and sometimes when I stop at a stop light i'll give it gas and its in neautral but jumps into gear. Could this fix my problems. It only happens when cold or if i'm in stop and go traffic occasionally?
+Angela Smith That sounds like the solenoid pack to me. If the concern is no gear engage ment in am only then you are looking at the modulating valve inside the pump.
okay thank you for the reply. I actually changed filter and fluid it only drained 3 quarts of fluid but took 5 quarts to refill it and i haven't had any problems with the rev to drive being in neutral so i'm hoping it was just low on fluid. I forgot to mention that when downing shifting from OD when going up hill it does like a clunking noise like it doesn't want to down shift into another gear still even after I changed the fluid.
Have questions did you ever have to redrill for the crankshaft pulley bolt? Also how hard is it to change the rear seal on the engine? 1999 F150 XLT 4X4 4.6 L ROMEO ENGINE! THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME TAG ALONG WITH YOU WHILE YOU SHOW US / ME WHAT TO LOOK FOR & FIX THE PROBLEM. BE SAFE! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS! ENJOYED!
Thank you for the video and the information. I have an issue with a Ford F150 4.6motor 2001 model, each time I place it on Reverse or Drive it turns off - this is the first time I see something like this on this type of a truck - the identifix program says its the torque converter - any suggestions on what I can do to see if it is that? . . . . . I would appreciate your input ..... Thanks for all the videos you upload and the experience you share.....
Hey makuloco I watch a lot of your videos and they are awesome very informative. One quick question on a 2006 Ford Explorer 4.0 with 106000 miles on it it's doing the same thing where I drive the truck and I notice around 25 to 35 mph it's starts to feel like the car goes in to neutral and the rpm shoot up a little bit it's only been doing it for a day I caught it early. Im about to order this kit to do this job but I want to know is that once I do this repair do I have to remove the codes or will they automatically reset once it senses that the problem is resolved? Thanks again
Do you have a video about the A4LD problems and repairs? I've had a couple of those fail in Rangers and Brocno 2's...they were also in Mustangs and Explorers as well, seems like another one of Fords bad transmissions.
I have a 2000 model mustang convertible with some pcm issues is there anyway i could ask you a few questions about it? You seem to be pretty knowledgeable in this matter and i keep getting the run around everywhere else i go
I have a 2004 V8 4.6 Explorer and tried changing the solenoid. That did not fix the problem. I watched your video solutions and purchased the Servos from AJ1E; when replacing them found out that my OD servo was broken/cracked. What could cause this fracture of the piece? Also, do you have a video on the band adjustment? Thanks for your detailed videos.
i have a 2004 f150 4x4 with p0732 code, transmission has been rebuilt and gone over twice after that and nothing found, but found fluid in the transmission harness plug, mechanic said because of the fluid it makes a poor connection and causing the code and to replace harness to fix, does this make sense? thanks in advance your videos are AWESOME!!!!!!
Man...I pulled a 4000# camper with my Explorer and its 5R55 and when I got rid of it at 130k, I had never had an issue. I did, however, change fluid every 30-35k because I was pulling the camper plus another trailer I had for dump runs.
Quick question: I just went to the store in my '99 Explorer 4.0 SOHC. Whenever I went to back out of the parking lot, the transmission was binding and grinding. I pulled out and got on the road to make it back home and it was grinding in 1st gear, but once it shifted into 2nd, it stopped. What do you think this could be? I'd like to know before I pull the transmission out and rebuild it/replace it and if I should rebuild or replace. Thanks!
Hey, B. My parents have a 2002 Explorer with an 4.6L that shudders in reverse only but its intermittent. I am thinking its a weak servo solenoid, but after watching the video I am questioning my diagnoses. Do you recommend replacing the solenoid pack or doing the mechanical shaft you mentioned in the video? Thanks!
If you were to need a valve body replacement for a 5R55E transmission where would you purchase it? Have a 5R55E with 2nd to 3rd flair and high RPMs on highway. 60MPH engine RPM is 2800 in 5th. P0733 P0734 and P0735 Codes
I have a 2002 Explorer and I had the flaring that you talked about. I wish I knew this stuff beforehand. 2300 dollars later. I have the brass inserts I just hope they last a few more years.
Good info!! Is this an issue on other 5r55 series? My '03 Ranger 4x4 has an "E" series one I believe....I'm not super familiar with the different families of that trans but I know is basically the same as the older A4LD. Have had no problems but it only has 68K miles. I did install a larger trans fluid cooler in place of the factory one (very easy upgrade) and keep the fluid changed and pristine clean in it via a cooler line pump out/replace (6 qts or so) once a year. It also has a mild tune that bumps up the trans pressure a little bit so I'm sure that doesn't hurt
My guess would be that 2nd gear coming out of the overdriven 1st gear lessens the blow since the gear reduction change is closer to 2nd from the OD1 to 2(3rd gear(intermediate band apply)) shift.
Hay there I have a 2002 mercury mountaineer and it's having all the symptoms that u said like having a hard time to shift from the the first two gears and the 4 and 5th one as well followed by the o/d off flashing on the dashboard and the gears tend to go in easier as I let off the throttle I just recently had my transmission fluid changed and guys at the shop said there was a little bit of a brass color to the oil my question to you is do u think fixing the servos is going to do the job or do you think I need a complete rebuild thanks in advance!
Thanks for that information. I am prety interested because my mom owns a 2000 Windstar. and when I get a steady speed or RPM it feels like it tugs every now and than.. I dont know much about transmissions and I cant tell exsactly what it is. I service my 99 explorer and her van. but transmissions I dont do.. any comments?
F.T. Makuloco - I have 2006 Merc Mountaineer, 150,000 miles. Love the vehicle, hate the trans. My symptoms are matching this description almost exactly. Any suggestions? Is there a servobore fix for the 6R60 (?) What should I be looking for.
Hi,very helpful video. I have an 2001 Lincoln LS it presents the symptoms, High rpm 1-2 shift (no 2 shift and 5th) P0775 code,5R55N. Do you recommend this O-ring servo fix or should I go to do the sleeve fix ? best regards!
P0775, rough shift - maybe a flare, and I get about a 200 rpm fluctuation up and down while cruising at slight throttle. Pretty sure I'm gonna have to order those servos. Thanks for the info.
Was this not the same issue with what I dealt with in my 98 Crown Vic's 4 speed auto? 1st to 2nd shift was delayed when trans wasn't fully warmed up yet, and I always had some kind of very slight, mysterious intermittent rpm rise while cruising in OD at a steady speed, which was more annoying than anything. OD band slippage? And from what I understand Ford upgraded this part in later versions of this transmission. This certainly shouldn't be present in such later year transmission designs. 🤦♂️
Hey i love your vids. Have been looking for a tip on how to remove the transmission pan on my 98 explorer XLT 4.0 V6. The dang catalytic converter is covering an entire corner. So i'm wondering what would be the easier way to go about removing it. Should i jack up the front and let the fluid drip out of the rear then try to shimmy the pan out? Or do i have to drop the exhaust and cat to get to it. Thanks. Not sure if you answer these..
I just watched this video I found it interesting I subscribe to your channel I have a 98 Ford explore that the transmission is just been rebuilt not long ago and I have nowhere it will not shift gears on its own anymore I have to manually shift it refers to overdrive and when I put it in reverse it catches real hard at first but then it slipped in reverse what do you think
FordTechMakuloco - What do you think of this: 2006 Explorer V6... if we come to a stop and wait for more than 10-20 seconds, when trying to pull away from the stop it will occasionally flare quite a bit... barely inching forward.... but when this happens if you put it in Park then back into Drive it then pulls away just fine. New Merc V fluid, filter, level checked and rechecked ok, PCM reset and relearned, shift points are where they are supposed to be.... What do you think?
Can you provide any insight on a P1715 (Shift Solenoid 2 Fault)? This code is stored on a 2005 Ford Mustang with the transmission discussed in this video. Thanks!!! With bidirectional controls, I am able to command the solenoid on and off (audible clicking is heard from solenoid). Transmission fluid looks dirty. Any ideas on what could be causing the P1715? Thanks again!!!
You are a legend man. You just save me a lot of money. I took my explorer to a transmission specialist they told me that it will cost around 4k to fix it. Thank you so much for the info. You are helping a lot of people...

You have saved people thousands of dollars on this 1. Most people are not aware of this repair
Seriously this SUVs would have a good reputation if this was invented in 2004

Thank you soooo much. I just bought a Lincoln LS and am having these exact issues. I did not want to go to a transmission shop and get reamed!!
Ford should address these issues in the factory. It's ridiculous to pass this on to the customer.
Their job is to get the vehicles out the door. They do not care if you have to ever repair it.
Never will. They have no history of taking care of the customer
How did you keep a straight face during the 'in and out' demonstration?
same thing happened on my '02 explorer with 5r55w at ~100kmiles. I installed the modified servo with rings and working well 26kmiles later.
+hitchhikingmike Nice!
I would've been lost without this video thanks very much
Great video, Have you ever seen a snap ring start to come out of the groove? My explorer developed an ATF leak and I notice the snap ring was almost half way out of the groove on the large bore. I need to get a better look, but it looks like the groove is intact. I am not sure if I can just push the cap back in and reseat/replace the snap ring or if it is a sign of a much bigger problem. My servo bores were repaired about 200.000 miles ago. The transmission was working fine until
Just ordered servo’s 🤘😎🤘 replacing reverse band so 🤷🏻♂️ might as well! Saving my mom $3k with me doing this and rebuilding innereds
This video was SUPER HELPFUL!! hit all my trans symptoms on the head! THANKS A TON for the info in this video!
I've used this kit on my '04 explorer. They indeed do work.
Ford should have used a reinforced rubber seal on that rod where it slides into the case bore. That way, the seal eventually wears instead of the case. You can pull the servo with the transmission still in the car and replace the seal on the rod or the rod assembly complete with seal.
Absolutely fantastic explanation and video - Well done sir!
Thank Bob
hello sir u awredy fix that problem?. bcause i also had that symptom in my ranger tdci
Brian thank you you are the man. Thats all that needs to be said.
you know G I think it's funny &(great) that ppl know these problems and solutions beforehand. what a trip 33 tho.
Thanks for the great video.
I have a 2005 Lincoln LS V8
Are: the codes you mentioned
Will they show up on my regular code reader and / or will the check engine light come on?
Or are those codes only displayed internally.
Also, I'm having a problem shifting from 3rd to 4th
And don't know if it's the servos or the solenoid packs.
Dion Mcarthur did it fix your problem?
Please answer if it did fix the problem
you're a hero, my 02 Explorer XLT, it just hit 202k Miles and I need this fix, thanks for the Video LMK what you drive Ill send you our N2 LED kit, THANKS AGAINS
Does any of this sound like a familiar problem?
you are a ford genius you should be an engineer designing these parts not a tec servicing them
engineres build it to last forever just to see if they can.
then they back engineer everything with components that are designed to fail timelywith use to insure what is know as pre engineered maintenace schedules that make huge parts profits for the manufactuer and repair facilities.
I think engineers should have to be techs for a minimum of 10 years
The problem isn't engineers it comes down to marketing. Coming from a family of engineers they want stuff to last but that becomes too expensive so ford makes them cut corners to save money. Then stuff like this happens
Cxsw we es I jug
This is temporal?
I'd like to narrow this down to either a problem with either the solenoid B or the servo.
ok, sorry. just saw pressure feeds through the rod. pays to wait till the end to understand. from an old chrysler/ gm tech
+FordTechMakuloco
can you do this fix before issues arise from this type of Transmission im looking at a 2002 ford explorer v8 here in New Zealand and want to know if you can fit the replacement servo in there before it shits out or do you have to wait till it sloggs out enough to fit the new one in
Ordered my kit and it’s on its way.
Thanks you sir
Servo of death!!!

Would you recommend this solution if someone is experiencing the symptoms but don't have any codes? Should I also replace the solenoid pack as well?
I have the same question. What did you come up with?
@@deadpossum100 I am in the same situation did you come up with anything? First and second does not pull barely in mine third fourth and fifth however Do
No engine codes at all and another thing is I had to manually select gears
Your fixing??
I seen this issue with the 4R series. Sonnax makes a kit to fix both problems for around $100.00
Claude Rains how reliable is it?
If it's a 4R series they work. As the issue is the OD servo bore gets bored out from years of use. The kit fixes the chatter from 3rd to OD. There is also new upgraded Fluid Ford sells to stop the issue to start with. If you lookup Sonnax website. It has trouble shooting help tabs. Which helps you buy the right kit...
If you do this in the vehicle. You need a roller to hold the band in place or the servo pin can miss it. Then you get nothing. Some issues are internal. You will need to take it out. Just all depends if you service it like the manual tells you...

Can you drop a link where I can find that
"Put on some Slayer in the background...." It's like you are in my head. Thanks buddy. :-)
Thanks for this
My OD Off indicator has just shown on my dash and I'll give this a go and I'm sure it will work beautifully and save me a ton of money
Thanks again
Slayer, hell yeah. Awesome vids man. Unfortunately I just got hosed on a purchase. 07 Exploder Sport Trac 4.8L. Cold tranny, test drive fine. After 2 hrs home, rolling stops and take offs, no go. No hard shifts, just doesn't seem to downshift or grab. 120k miles. Do you think I'm past this repair working and onto a complete rebuild or should I give this a shot? Your Awesome. Thanks.
Very informative 👍 would you know what year model of ford explorer is the transmission available? Thanks
I have one here in an 06 explorer, fully rebuilt, new clutches, bands and seals/gaskets.
Shifts good 1-4 but as soon as it hits OD it revs out like it goes to neutral.
2:41-2:44 pure comical gold lol

FordTechMakuloco inneed your assistant on my 1997 f150 5.4 4x4 transmission I'm having issues that no one can figure out
Just floppin around in there!

I just ordered them today and I will update on my results.
good info ! thank you so much! I have a 2010 Mustang GT with an auto. will I have to do this in the future? Thanks!
Have questions did you ever have to redrill for the crankshaft pulley bolt?
Also how hard is it to change the rear seal on the engine?

I have a 2009 Mustang 4.0. Just started having issues with 4th and OD. 1-2-3 are fine. Will this help that issue?
Thank you for the video and the information. I have an issue with a Ford F150 4.6motor 2001 model, each time I place it on Reverse or Drive it turns off - this is the first time I see something like this on this type of a truck - the identifix program says its the torque converter - any suggestions on what I can do to see if it is that? . . . . . I would appreciate your input ..... Thanks for all the videos you upload and the experience you share.....
spenca i commented before i watched whole vid i like the last option of repairing it thank you
work for a 08' 4.0 mustang. how can i tell bands are broken? any help is much appriciated

What could be the cause of a hard shift into reverse mostly from drive to reverse and park to reverse?
Wow. Like throwing a hot dog down a hallway. Story of my life! Thanks for the video very informative.
Great tip with the Slayer background music!
Thanks for all your videos!!! You've helped me out so much!!! What about P0734 (Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio)? Any idea how to fix it?
Would this be the solution for a transmission that revs high before engaging in first gear?
I have a 2002 Explorer and I had the flaring that you talked about. I wish I knew this stuff beforehand. 2300 dollars later. I have the brass inserts I just hope they last a few more years.
Said "JUST LISTEN TO SLAYER IN THE BACKGROUND "😂 he knows it puts people in the mood for slayer 😅
How can I know if is the servo or the solenoid, what I need remplace ? Thanks
If your symptoms are like a shudder / shake when in 3rd or 1-3 on hard acceleration what would the likely cause be?
I would think torque converter
+klc317 Yes the 5R55E is mechanically similar but does not experience this concern nowhere near the same as the S series.
Thanks for the info. You explained exactly whats happening on my 02 Mountaineer.
+Raul Rulas Oring servo hands down.
Will this help with no reverse ?
holy crap kid! this was an an amazing video. You really know your stuff.
