Hello Everyone,
The fix is confirmed and the transmission shifts great now, the solenoid pack was dirty and needed to be refurbished, you can buy a remanufactured solenoid pack if you would like but if you want you can rebuild your own if it is electrically sound, replacing the filter and fluid helps as well. this works on the 5r55s, 5r55n, and 5r55w ford and lincoln transmission, please work safely and good luck.

Just saying, the plate taken off of the top of the solenoid @6:27 warps so check it that it's flat you may need to replace it if it's not flat.
what about this thump or kick when coming to a quick stop

My 05 mustang with this same transmission shifts completely fine in all forward gears but reverse takes exactly 15 seconds to engage…no more no less and it only does this when the engines warmed up. When reverse does engage it’s very smooth it doesn’t slam into gear…Also it will go into reverse immediately with no delay when cold starting. I’ve already changed the filter and replaced the fluid twice. No flashing O/D light, no check engine light and no slipping/delayed gear engagement in drive. Just this weird problem with reverse. It’s been this way for almost a year since I bought the car and it hasn’t gotten any worse. What in the world could be causing this???

Have you found the reason? My 05 does similar but a little worst. Forward is fine. Delay engage on the reverse and slip while giving gas.
OK when cold and not OK when warmed up?...hmmm? Is it possible that you overfilled your transmission? Being that the fluid expands when it reaches operating temp, it may be to proper level when COLD but over full when at operating temp. Just sayin'!
So to fix this.... it is replacing the shift solenoid? The Ford Explorer is my favorite SUV but I hate this problem.

GK7 question, so exactly what symptoms were you having on the transmission when driving the explorer on the road? I have an issue with my 2006 Ford Explorer it has the 5R55S transmission 4.0 v6 motor when i drive it and does it every now and then when i come to a complete stop at a traffic light and when i start accelerating the car wouldn't go in drive when i slowly put my foot on the gas pedal. About a second later or so the transmission catches gear and the vehicle starts to move, i don't know why it does that? Today i checked the trans fluid under the pan there was alot of the old trans fulid flowing out of it when i took the small t30 screw fitting out of it then i added almost a whole quart to it and a lot got wasted because i guess it was already full and more fluid started flowing out of the drain hole after filling it but i did not have the engine running and transmission at full temp like you did in the video. Are you suppose to have the engine running while adding transmission flluid?
Yes, engine has to be running with trans temp at 80-120 so the trans pump is running, I believe now your fluid is low, because it’s a lot more in the pan when engine is off..

how bout the o/d off dash light flashing & as a result,downshifting violently
is this an identical fix to a 2003 mountaineer transmission shift obstacle mine has a slow shift engagement timeframe shifting down into first gear and usually only when warm but turning overdrive off seems to eliminate problem
I have a 07 ford sport track with a 5r55s trans it had a hard shift so I replaced it with the updated servos now it won't shift out of 1st. I tried to do a manual tcm reset but I couldn't find good Instructions I don't know if it's that or if something went bad. I did alot or studying and talking to people thats why i leaned to the servos, it is a common problem with that trans. . help?

I'm not sure of the of exact number but it's 13-17 Qts I believe. You'll need to make sure you're filling the parts in the transmission with fluid to make they're saturated so you don't start it dry. Then follow the standard refill procedure (search here on RUclips lots of videos. Then you should be good, double check for leaks then maybe recheck after running for a bit to see if it dropped from filling any air pockets.

What is the symptom? I want to buy one, but has a problem with third gear/shift and the seller said something about to scan the car and the issue can be something minor, thats how I ended up in this vid and I don’t know a thing about mechanics
After this now i have no reverse, and it squeels in drive and acts like its gonna slip... i shut it off immediately. What would cause that? Air bubbles?

I have fordexplxer 2004 a and shifting. I to neutral is the problem .Will changing fluid intermission clear up the problem it has 274780 miles the car(Ford exlpoer).
i got a question my 06 explorer the wrench symbol comes on dashboard and itll shift to drive and reverse but it’ll get stuck it’s like there’s a disconnect its bot bumping i to gear or slipping out its like the transmission is not sending the right signal to the electronics in the vehicle to tell it to switch gears or switch to drive and reverse
For me I have a Ford Explorer 2010 that had the gears slipping and the hard shifting on first and second gear, I took it to the local garage they said that they fixed the problem although what they fixed is just the gear slipping, they fixed the gears slipping but not the hard shifting and let’s not speak of the check engine light
EDIT:check engine light code p0191 was causing the hard shifting, idk how
Try to replace intermediate shaft sensor that is in the transmission i replace mine and it works the slipping was gone and the orange wrench is gone too

Try using Amsoil ATF. Get with me for an assessment.
@@peterssynthetics-independe6786 the transmission i was speaking about suffered a full system failure and had to be changed, apparently it was an 04 tranny on a 2010
@@redman4life91 I am very sorry that happened to you and had to soend money on a new trans. Use Amsoil and change regularly and you can go literally millions of miles with hardly any wear. Too good to be true? Just try it.
What was the problem before replacing this Solenoid? I have the same transmission on my 2009 Mustang 4.0. It won’t go into Drive or Reverse only 1-3 manual gear.
In your case maybe the servo is bad
I have a 2004 ford explorer awd xlt sport. It does shift weird when driving under 50. Once I go over 50 60 then coast down a hill and I let go of the gas pedal completely the rpm drop to zero and stalls the engine. I went over 60 once and I let go of the pedal and put the car in neutral while still coasting and the engine didn't stall. Will this fix that issue as well?
I have a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer and it won't go in reverse or drive but it goes in 3 2 1 I've checked the transmission fluid and everything is fine no shavings in the transmission fluid and I don't know where the sensors are
I have a 2005 4.0.. it drives in 1 2 3 gears but barely moves in drive and reverse..
Ohh, that may not be a good sign, I would have a transmission shop professionally diagnose it
If reverse is not working at all would you suggest this as a fix?
Does this also fix the harsh reverse lurch? My LS just started doing this last week. I checked my fluid level once warm with the car running and it looked brand new still.

Reverse band end probably broke. Drop the pan and the four bolts on the round reverse servo. Push the lever and see if the band tightens or not.

My truck is stuck in first gear no matter what I do it will not come out. Would the solenoid pack cause this kind of problem?
It might,now this is 11 months since you ask. My o2 4.6 shift slip on two,got a used pack,it would not go beyond 1st gear. Lots of frigging around put back original solioid pack shifts again, just 2nd cranky. If I ease up on the gas it shifts,something about pressure. Thinking hard on getting it rebuilt, my wife rolls her eyes,but the Explorer great shape for nova scotia. Have great week.

My 2010 ford explorer AT blinks OD light while driving . Tried changing solenoid, speed sensor and the whole valve body as well still the issue didn't resolved. Can this be due to a faulty ECU or TCM?

@@user-vm9hw6mk7y Yes I was able to fix it. I had to change the whole ECU kit and then it went off. So my problem was due to a faulty ECU kit!

GK7 DIY i am having an issue with my transmission, it doesn’t seem to be slipping but the check transmission light comes on and the od light flashes. Any help would be appreciated.

@SuperBeastin247 farted around with the solenoids, as I learned more,they were my thoughts. Plus I work at a Ford dealership, and the bands are a consern,the fluid is very clean. The shop scanned the Explorer, code po 732,you can ease of the gas,second shift happens. Thanks.
