I am just getting started with my first project in years. I was thinking back to before there were videos we could watch to learn the best techniques, and things are so much easier now. I am learning so much that I just didn’t know when I made my daughter an appliquéd baby quilt in the 1980’s. Now I am designing one for her baby son. Thank you for making these great techniques so accessible! Of all the quilting videos I have found, I love Man Sewing the best!
I must say that I was out of the line for a while I got a problem in my arm and I had been already four months without sweing, but today I feel much better and the first thing I did this morning was to look for a nice tutorial to recreate. So I found your great tutorial...I have a lot of unfinished tea towels that I receive from my mother in law. Now is time to use them and have them as beautiful presents for our family in Christmas. Thank you for the idea! I can no wait to visit the shop to find the motives. Thank you Rob!
Rob thank you for making this video! What a simple idea! Always appreciate your smile and sense of humor as well! Quilting should be fun and that comes through in ALL your videos!
Thank you for teaching us raw edge appliqué! Now I can attack a quilt I bought a while back! I just hadn't been able to figure out how to control the fraying, and you explained that perfectly!!! Thanks so much!!!
I want to applique oak leaves to the back of my quilt... and here you are with instructions. I drew the oak leaves and want to make them from batik, falling leaves on a plain back. Never thought about fabric "pictures", thanks.
I'm planning on gifting two projects I learned here on ManSewing! I'm making the cuddle scarf for my mother, and making a dresden plate pillow for my grandmother.
Awesome! Love this idea for gifts. Such a cute panel too. Thanks for the "technical" info too. I tend to go a little overboard on the stitching AND the stabilizer. I can just keep it simple!
this is just what i was looking for because i have the "near exact" panel prints that you used. don't know if i can use my free motion attachment though, u make it look ez. i may experiment with just using a regular sewing attachment. practice, practice!
I have bought a bunch of Tea Towels from Missouri Star and they are wonderful! And they're priced right!! I've also made aprons from them .. Jenny has a great video on how to do that!
I just want to thank you for this video, I need to make a set of tea towels as a thank you gift!!! This is do-a-ble!!!! You're so easy to understand and funny too xoxo!!
Hi Rob, I think these are wonderful gift ideas and your doing a really awesome job showing the appliqué. I've done some in the past. I was just looking at the towels in stock at MSQC. The Dunroven House Brand is the best quality brand and large, like 20x27 awesomely big. I'm not familiar with the "e-brand" they may be good. But I like Dunroven House. Will MSQC be ordering more of the Dunroven House? The flour sacks, waffles and checkered styles??? Will you please put in a good word for us. The 20x27 is also large enough to do the Apron. And with the waffle style you can make oven door towels with the small checked at the top with a button. These turn out so nice and you can make two for one. Thanks Rob Keep up the good work. Cheryl
Hi Kathleen! Glad you enjoyed the tutorial! You can grab a Shark Applicutter here: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/70023/msqc/rob-appell/man-sewing-shark-applicutter-rotary-cutter Have fun sewing!
Hi Rob. I just made a cute bandana bib using some pul. Can u do some baby items using pul please. I want to make my daughter a changing bag with a changing mat and could use some ideas. Thanks and have a great Xmas. Brenda (uk) xxx
Hi Ria! Thanks for tuning in! I think most fabric stores have a few towels in stock. I would start by checking your local store to see what they have! Have fun sewing!

Easy applique...less complicated is better. Thank you for the tutorial.

Did you drop your feed dogs to facilitate sewing around the appliqué piece? Thanks
Love your technical explanations. They enhance and make the project even better
Your video makes me think I should take those tea towels out of my project pile and get them finished. Thanks!
I plan to use this applique technique on a rag quilt. This tutorial has given me a boost of confidence. Just purchased my Heat N Bond!
Rob thank you for making this video! What a simple idea! Always appreciate your smile and sense of humor as well! Quilting should be fun and that comes through in ALL your videos!

Thanks, Rob, for this idea. I have been planning on making those microwave bowl hot pads for gifts. I think I'll add some of these towels in, too.
Another great, FUN tutorial!!! Please keep them coming!!! 😊🐧🦌
I am making quilted placemats and coasters. Learning FMQ and starting small.
I have bought a bunch of Tea Towels from Missouri Star and they are wonderful! And they're priced right!! I've also made aprons from them .. Jenny has a great video on how to do that!
I made the apron too!
Rob, Thanks for the great tutorials. I never thought of allowing the background fabric to be the edge. Your tip gives the motif that extra "pop".
I LOVE YOUR SIMPLICITY!
You are so fun to watch! Your energy is infectious. New to your tutorials and trying to catch up. Keep it up Man Sewer!
I just want to thank you for this video, I need to make a set of tea towels as a thank you gift!!! This is do-a-ble!!!! You're so easy to understand and funny too xoxo!!

Interesting video.... Rob, were you feeling OK when you did this video? You seem to be less enthusiastic than in your other videos.
I must not have had my morning coffee before I filmed. Hope you have fun making these tea towels!

Are most sewing machines capable of FMQ?
if you can lower the feed dogs so that they don't engage the fabric.
Some of the cheaper ones, as mine, have a plastic plain bit that goes onto the teeth so you can hide them. It comes with the machine.
My free motion sewing sucks. Why not use a regular foot or a walking foot?
No reason you couldn't. Might use straight stitch or zigzag or blanket stitch or some other decorative stitch.
Hi Vicki! You can use a walking foot for straight line quilting. FMQ takes plenty of practice! I know I'm still learning new things!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😘😘😘❤️❤️🎄
No. No. No...sorry to much fraying after several washes,,,,,want quality products..if my name is on it..satin stitch or fold under and Appliqué
Rob if your set was to be a male and female the designer goofed. Female deer have no antlers. Only the males or bucks have them. Just saying.....
