- Hello, Shiny Crafty People! Welcome back to the channel.
Tim Totten here and today we're going to add fabric to a store-bought towel to make a super fast gift! This one went to my mom, who loves dogs, but I've made some with superhero fabrics for another friend and a towel with Jack Skellington fabric (from Nightmare Before Christmas) as a gift for my son this last Christmas.
This is an easy task that anyone who can sew a straight line can do!
Here's what you'll need:
1 store-bought towel
1/8 - 1/4 yard of accent fabric
Matching thread
Sewing machine
Scissors or rotary cutter
Pins or clips
This is a quick 15-minute project that creates a personalized gift that is perfect for many occasions.

Really good idea.
You had me when I saw DOG fabric. Great tutorial and fast and easy project. Best tip I've seen on how to mitre the corners too.
Thank you, you explain really well. 🌺🌸

Trick for tube turning -sew a piece of yarn into the closed end, lomge rthan your tube, and use that to turn by pulling on the yarn. The yarn then unravels andmcomes right out😮
Smart!
I bought bright red towels and some cute puppy fabric. Going to sew for my Dad’s 92nd birthday! Thanks for the idea and instructions.
I like the seam method that you used. It came out perfect. Thank you for sharing.
Cute idea.
Cute hand towels.
Nice towels and your friend loves them, I'm sure. I like your simple tip about how to get the edges turned. Thank you for sharing that tip and also thank you for sharing the info about the 505 temporary basting spray.
Very cute idea... and great video on how to make them. Thank you! A quick tip... you can use small pieces of Stitch Witchery to help hold the folds and fabric in place before sewing!
Love it! I’ll be making these for sure!
I love how you educate while you share the project!
Thank you!
Thank you for posting this. Great video ❤
The first day I got my rotary cutter I dropped it on my foot and wound up in the ER with stitches. But it didn't stop me. Lol
Great tutorial! On the corners I find if I use a little spray starch and iron in the miter and clip it, by the time. Get to the machine it will hold the corner without pins!
I hadn’t thought of that. Good idea!!
I made my husband facemasks with that fabric. Now I know what to do with the leftover strips! Thanks, Tim Totten! Also, Thanks for the clear directions for those tight corners, they would have frustrated me.
Easy peasy! Ty!
When you need a fast gift and just have some fun scraps, this is great! Everyone I know pretty much has all the stuff they need to survive, so making a gift seems to really go a long way, even when it’s as simple as this. Have fun!
thank you for your tips and your kindness. i love you and your videos!
Oh, my! This technique is brilliant! I can't tell how many times I have fussed to make the fabric lay nicely. Thank you!!
Always great projects. Love that they are quick, easy & even though I have been sewing for a L O N G time, I always learn something (or relearn!) Thanks Tim
Wow my towel sets are so similar. Love this.
I love your videos, well done and fun projects. Keep up the good work
Great tutorial
I so enjoy watching how you make sewing look so easy. I liked the way you did the side seams. I will definitely try using your method. It’s getting ear Easter so have a blessed Easter. 👍
I know you do not mean to be fun but you are so cute
What a cute idea! Love the fabric.❤️
Love it!!
Love the idea.
Hi, I’ve been larking from you since MASK making. I have 2 brother sewing machines but want a Janome. Can you recommend one that won’t break my bank? Thank you. I’ve also ordered the acrylic mask templates from you twice .
Just a question......do you need to prewash towel and fabric.
That’s really up to you. I usually prewash when I’m concerned about major shrinkage of the fabrics. So for big quilts I always do. But small projects like this don’t seem to be an issue. At least for me.
I find I need to pre wash everything first to eliminate shrink and dyes bleeding..red will bleed terribly.
🥰😍🥰
Nice sir ❤️🇵🇰
Your channel is one of my absolute favorites!! Btw, I got my little Homever iron exchanged from Amazon & this one works great! Thnx Tim 😊👍🏻
I have that fabric!!
What sewing machine do you have Tim?
I typically use a Janome 1600p.
Some basic beginner questions... Are you using a Universal needle or what type is best when working with towels? If sewing fabric on top of hand towels or bath towels that may have more of a nap, do you recommend some sort of stabilizer for smoother sewing? If so, what type and when/how would you use the stabilizer?
Put it over a paper towel holder….done in a wink.
So smart!
Could you please ad templates so we could download for free an try making these ourselves your very good at what you do
Do you have to preshrink cotton strips?
What model machine do you have? I’ve been looking for a new one.
I use a Janome 1600p. But it’s a straight stitch machine for high speed volume sewing. It lists around $1,150 new. There are plenty of good machines that are cheaper and not designed for the kind of high-intensity and long-duration sewing my company does.
