The step-by-step method was easy to follow. It made my first border towel a breeze to make! What I did different: omitted the pinch and pin step; opted instead to cut the bulky part of the hem off. It turned out just fine and the minimized bulk was much easier to sew through. It looks great! Thanks for sharing the pattern!
I think I'd just cut that seam off the bottom of the towel, or open it up before sewing the band onto it. Then I wouldn't have to pinch it, would I? Love this idea; I might be trying it in the near future.
@@sewingstudiofl boy howdy on that! I've started making something in the past and then found a whole new way to do it, and then ANOTHER new way, and they're all good. LOL

I like the way you have sewn the sides. Very neat. The only thing I don’t like is the pinch and pin method. I think it would be much easier to either cut off or open up the bottom hem. The cotton tea towel hems can feel very bulky. One question, what happens when you are stitching a band on a white tea towel and you match the thread to the band. Do you think it takes away from the neat look to have a row of coloured thread on the back of the towel?
I think I missed something. In step 5 when you do the pinch and pin, do you only sew the sides? Do you sew the top again? Once you sew the sides, you just take the pins on the top out?
Did you pre-wash the fabric and the towel beforehand to prevent shrinkage? I'm a beginner, how much fabric do you ask the salesperson for let's say 2 standard kitchen towels?
Prewashing is a personal preference. I did not prewash before sewing this project. I like the crispness of new, unwashed fabric, especially if I’m gifting it. You need 1/16 of a yard for the flange and 1/4 of a yard for the main border print . Enjoy!
Hi there, Kelsey pinched and pinned at the bottom edge of her towel, and then ONLY stitched at the side of the decorative border. The pinch and pin part was just so that the fabric border laid flat on the towel when it was turned inside out.

Just made one and it looks great. Not perfect but pretty darn good thanks to your step by step and clear instructions. Thank you.

Hi Linda! There are always more than one way to sew something!

I just subscribed to your channel. Loving your towel tutorial. Looking forward to more of your videos. Hello from Chicago.
Hi Margarita! Thank you for subscribing!!

Good tutorial
Thanks you! Happy Sewing!
I love this! Do you need to stitch the top of the flanage or just at the seam with the border piece?
Hi Michelle! No you do not need to stitch the flange, unless you would prefer it was tacked down in that way. Happy sewing!
Love the video! How much did u pinch?
I like how you explain the steps. May I ask where you purchase your towels? Seems like a lot of the ones Im buying get wonky after the first wash.
Hi there, Kelsey bought hers at Target. There are lots of different places you can find plain colored towels though!
I think I missed something. In step 5 when you do the pinch and pin, do you only sew the sides? Do you sew the top again? Once you sew the sides, you just take the pins on the top out?
She sews the top just below the flange. So the top is attached
Should have cut off thick binding of tea towel
Wouldn’t it be easier to just cut the bulky bottom of the towel off instead of the pinch and pin step?

Does your iron burn your hand when you hold it? I bought one and it burns my hand if i use it dry or steam?
You pinned the top of the towel, with the pinch and pinned it as well . Did you sew that? I saw the sides, why did you pinch the top ?
When I try to sew terry cloth, my top thread always breaks. I've adjusted the tension and stitch length a lot, but still it breaks the top thread.

What’s the name of your machine
Hi Maureen, Kelsey was sewing on the Brother Pacesetter PS500 Sewing Machine!
What happened to the part that was pinched and pinned? did you stitch it?
Hi there, Kelsey pinched and pinned at the bottom edge of her towel, and then ONLY stitched at the side of the decorative border. The pinch and pin part was just so that the fabric border laid flat on the towel when it was turned inside out.
Did you prewash your towel and fabric?
Hi there, no we did not for these towels but if you want to pre-wash yours that wouldn't be a bad idea!
