I have waited 67 yrs to find MY JAM! This is it! This is ALL THE THINGS I LOVE (save one) IN A CREATIVE WORK OF ART: fabrics, cathedral windows, mosaics, stained glass, collage quilting…YOU SHOWED IT ALL! You showed me my future! I had been feeling bad that I came so late to quilting; I’ve just passed my first year anniversary in November! Still learning with every single stitching and picking! But I love it! Okay, what is the one thing that I WILL ADD TO STAINED GLASS QUILTING? drum roll… SHAKESPEARE! I have been dreaming of incorporating the characters from The Tempest, Midsummer, Macbeth, R and J, etc, etc, etc into art quilts but I wasn’t sure how. This, my friend, is going to be my life’s devotion!❤
I watch hundreds of RUclips videos to learn how to do things and you are the very best most amazing detailed easy to understand easy to follow person who describes as he works how to do what the video is about. I could never take my hat off enough to give you the kudos you deserve. I do Stainglass and I do sewing and I do baking so I let watch lots of videos. I am very good at all three things that I do baking sewing and stain glass and this video is just absolutely amazing I can’t wait to try to mix my stain glass with my sewing like this project does. Absolutely amazing I just have no words to describe how cool this idea is. Kudos my friend you are wonderful.
Rob, your videos have helped me with landscaping, collage, and English paper piecing a hummingbird. today’s video is a technique I️ used a long time ago to do a picture of my high jumping days ( unfortunately it disappeared during a move). Now I️ want to collage the high jumper and then stain glass it. I️ need more hours to the day. You are so inspiring! Thank you for the wonderful videos. Jane Deskis and “Sharky”
Thank you for all of your support, Jane! I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed this tutorial and will be making a super awesome quilt, and I'm sure Sharky is more than happy about this creation! :) Be sure and share it with the Man Sewing Facebook or Instagram! Have fun sewing!
Great video and I found the pattern to print. You skip the fluff and your teaching skills are excellent. It is obvious you care. Will continue to quilt and learn with you.
Where did you find the pattern to print? When I clicked the link it took me to Missouri Star Quilt Co but said “404 - page not found”. I’d really like the large pattern hanging behind him but would be happy with just the free pdf offered. Thanks for any info you can provide.
Speechless... yesterday I got the idea in my head of creating a stained glass looking type quilt. Today I went to You Tube and of course someone had thought of this already LOL Absolutely fantastic.....
I love u- I just think u r so fun and I love ur energy & the way u explain every detail! U actually have me thinking I could do this- great teacher- love those colors and the flower choice!!!! ❤️
Thank you so much Rob! I LOVE stained glass effects glass in glass and fabric! They just fascinate me the way colors are managed yet live and overwhelming! I have been stacking layer cakes for the right pattern! This is a quilt for me to make! Thank you✨✨
Great tutorial. I made it halfway through the piping on my poppies before I realized, hmmm let me view the tutorial. So now I'm redoing many parts! Love it. Love the design and the colors.
Somehow I didn’t even know stained glass appliqué existed but I’m in love! My grandfather makes stained glass decorations and it’d be cool to make him a fabric one!
Thanks for all your wonderful tutorials. I too got into quilting for the free motion and appliqués. When I saw your gorgeous poppy quilt, I had to make my own. I winged the design and fabric but i tried to match yours as much as possible. Loved this project. Keep them coming.
That was a great video, Rob. I did the "stained glass" technique the first time like you did but now I use my cover stitch machine instead of a twin needle in my regular sewing machine.
This is the best video I've seen for stained glass. How wide would I cut black fabric, if I want to make my own bias tape ? I would love to see other pieces you have made using this technique for stained the glass.
Thank you so much Rob! Stained Glass is a method I have wanted to try for some time and now after seeing how you've done it, I feel more confident to give it a go.
I know this is an older video, but I wanted to comment anyway. I LOVE your videos and projects. You do such a great job. You are fun, informative, and reassuring. Thank you bunches!
you rock!! what a beautiful quilt -and your enthusiasm is catching - I can't wait to start a stained glass project. Love the poppies and the fabric is out of this world gorgeous. thank you.
Very creative, truly an art quilt, thanks for sharing, Rob! Everyone in the quilt world is encouraging us to 'step out of our comfort zone' and you continue to do that. Please give us more information on this process and how you finished the quilt with batting, etc.
This is too cool! Love the colors, too. What a beautiful piece of art that anyone would be proud to display. A slight challenge to make but I'm up for it! Yea!
love it so much cant wait to do this one always saw the stain glass but no one really showed how to do it thank you so much will do this in January I have to many Christmas projects I am doing now one is your Kyronite for my son he loves Sumperman
I wanted to share an update, I’ve found couching with yarn technique is SO much faster and easier. My Juki has a foot for turning an edge under, I think, but that has a feed hole large enough for most yarn (not the extra fat size) and it feeds nicely for a couching method for doing yarn without necessitating a couching foot purchase! One feeds it into the hole front to back and loosely allow the yarn on top of the left hand as you guide fabric, so as not to constrict the yarn! I might end up adjusting this for FMQ just done stitch in the ditch and around gentle curves.
So I'm an orthopedic surgical nurse and put my own spin on the stained glass and made a stained glass xray quilt. I can't figure out how to post the picture but it looks pretty good. Thanks for the tutorial!!
Great to see you at the Houston Quilt Festival! Sorry for hijacking you on the exhibit floor. Heard your voice and knew it was you! Love what you do and dig your work!
Oh my gosh, Rob, you have done it again! This was the coolest tutorial you have ever done. After the Holidays I plan to begin a design for Easter eggs on a wall hanging. Using batiks is the way to go with all those watery colors and the tightly woven fabric. The technique is so wonderful that my mind is running wild! Was that your intention? HA HA Thanks for giving us this great jumping-off place.
What an exciting project. I’m new to quilting so I will be waiting to try this stain glass quilt. Love, love, love it Wish you sold the whole project as a kit.
I literally squealed when I saw what the tutorial was today...I've SO wanted to try this for SOOOOO long...*DOES A HAPPY DANCE* Stay tuned for hastags of success or interesting design choices ahead! lololol Great tutorial!
I made a road map wall hanging for my BFF of her house in the village she lives in. I used the fusible bias ribbons in various colours as roads & lanes plus streams.
Thanks so much for this video what a great way to do that with black bias tape, adhesive on the back. I did not find it at MSQC but it’s on Amazon. Gorgeous colors really pop with black, get that but this makes it very clear! Your shark applicutter is totally awesome I got one in one of my MSQC orders as a bonus and hadn’t yet tried it out, this was a great reminder! So I did try it out now! Love love love this design, hold it like a pencil so it’s very controlled & cuts easily! (I have a hedgehog stencil it might not get into the spikes). For most appliqués it is awesome. Not even the same as a small rotary cutter I’ve tried before, it’s better than that! Might even do multiple cuts at once. Thanks thanks thanks 😊
I did a stained glass quilt MANY years ago. I had an old Sears Kenmore Sewing machine. It wouldn't take a twin needle, so I went up one side and down the other with my single needle. Haven't made one since - LOL
I also used he black 1/4" iron on bias ribbon on a stained glass mermaid from Harry Potter bathroom window for my Granddaughter Fiona . I printed her face onto fabric which I put as the mermaid's face.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I've got a Nativity pattern that looks like a Stained Glass window that I'm going to try to finish before Christmas 2018! This technique will be awesome to use for it. I already bought the fusible bias for it. Thanks again for the tutorial!
