This tutorial is perfect for all the half hexies I have made by piecing my scraps. Couldn't have come at a better time, now I know what I am doing with them all. Off to cut some black sashing strips now. Thanks again Jenny
Oh my! What a great idea. I just cut a bunch of 1/2 hexis, Can't wait to do this, it looks like stained glass! Always amazed at the new projects MSQC comes up with, and how well you explain it.
Can't wait to get busy making this out of my batik scraps. Like so many others I see stained glass! I see some comments refer to wasting fabric but since I applique a bit no scrap is ever a waste😍
I have really enjoyed making this quilt (1 of 3). I chose to do Christmas prints and it is very pretty and bright. Thank you so much for the tutorial, I have referred to it numerous times.
Thanks Jenny, for the great tutorials! I just started quilting this year and have already made 4 quilt tops just from your tutorials. This is so much fun, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Love this quilt. It's easy, quick and gorgeous. Made one for my sister (turquoise), my other sister wanted the same one in purple blue and green, and now making another one for a nephew and his wife in purple and grey .
I LOVE THIS Quilt!!! It looks like a stained glass window! It's gorgeous! Oh I cant wait till I am done with the 9 quilts i have to finish! Then I am going to make this one! Y'all do the most beautiful work!
This is really lovely. Been meaning to get a stain glass pattern, now I can just do this one! As always Jenny you deliver the best tutorials, best blocks and all with lovely colour patterns. Thanks Jenny.
Loved this quilt, so many fabrics you can use. I'm kind of a Matchy, Matchy person, but using this pattern, I might be able to go out of my comfort zone. Thanks so much!
What a great idea! I went to a quilt show yesterday and bought the 10 inch pack and I received the hex template in my last order for MSCC and can't wait to start cutting out today!
You can imagine my surprise when I saw this. I was just working on a friendship braid, sashing in black one end that will be the middle creating a zig zag down the middle. I wish I could add a photo! My point is I couldn't figure out what to do next. Until this video! You have given me so many ideas on making blocks instead of the long braid! Thank you Jenny!
ahhh!!! You have just provided that perfect tutorial for the kaffe fassett daily deal layer cake I ordered. have been trying to find a pattern for it. NOW I am inspired. thank you!!!!
I used 18 per braid then cut my squares. I then used the large piece cut from the top to finish the last square and ended up with enough extra blocks to make matching pillows. Also eliminated much of the waste.
What a great stash buster design too. I've recently sorted all my fabric and didn't realise I had plenty of black fabric.. I also have lots of large half-metre fabrics too which could come together so nicely... OMG moment.... XMAS fabrics with red or green sashing !!!!! Even just a table runner.... if I used smaller half hexie template... The possibilities are endless... thank you for the tutorial.. must go now and play in fabric land
I took all of the scraps, because there were a lot of them, cut them into 2 1/2 inch strip pieces and randomly sewed them into one long 2 1/2 inch strip. There was enough to make a second border, then added a second second black strip on the other side of the second border...then I added the 5 1/2 inch border. It really added interest and looked like broken glass framing the “stained glass”. I was so happy with the results. Hope that makes sense. :)
I made this quilt with Fresh Bloom & when it was done it was beautiful. Comments from family were that it looked like a stained glass window. I used a simple mottled apple green border & made the piecing the real star of this quilt.
perfect timing! i ordered a layer cake yesterday and ive just placed my order for the template so i can make a half hexi quilt from my Ardently Austen layer cake when it gets here!
I used the 2.5 inch tall half hexagon die. My block turned out to be seven inches square. Once I squared it up. Looking forward to the 5 inch tall half hexagon die. I like the end result.
Love this quilt, also would love to keep the braided look too instead of squared! This is the first time I've seen the MSQC rulers in action and I'm impressed with the etching and how clear you can see the fabric.
Precioso me encanto, yo trabajo Quilt a mano pues no te herramientas de trabajo, pero no me importa tener mis dedos maltratados amo lo q hago aunque no me quede perfecto hago felices a mis amigas regalándoles un regalito hecho con mis manos. Admiro muchísimo su trabajo pues aprendo mucho, gracias 😊
Jenny always great tutorials and thanks for the answer about the size. I watch your tutorials over and over. My main problem I have is keeping the points. I think I just get in a hurry.
I just love stained glass windows and this pattern very much reminds me of just that! I decided in order to add more color, I'd try using a partial jelly roll I had left over to make a "strip set" and then cut the half hexies. I'm thrilled with the outcome! Totally love every aspect and plan to make a larger size in the near future. In order to save on material waste, I even used two extra blocks and the cut off "point" from squaring up the strip set to make an adorable smaller companion wall hanging (just posted pics on the MSQC site this morning)! Again, just love the look and can see this in a multitude of batik combinations!!!
I am currently making this quilt and I would like to give everyone a word of advice. Do not cut the angled edges off of your hexi’s until you unfold the sashing..... I trimmed all of the black edges off of a whole stack because I wasn’t paying attention. You have to unfold the Sashing first after you sew it to the Hexi!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
First thing I thought of was the stained glass windows I remember seeing in a small chapel, there were two things about little church that made it so memorable ; the windows, the woodwork and the combination of two. Never been a fan of batiks but think it would be a perfect use of fabric.
I made this for a gift years ago.. I'm back! Now one for me! My fav pattern!
Jenny…I’m speechless. You have so many awesome quilt designs. This is beautiful. I just wish I had time to make them ALL!!! Thank you.
This tutorial is perfect for all the half hexies I have made by piecing my scraps. Couldn't have come at a better time, now I know what I am doing with them all. Off to cut some black sashing strips now. Thanks again Jenny

+Diana Wright so happy you love it! You should definitely add it to your list of 'To-Do's!'
I am currently making this quilt and I would like to give everyone a word of advice. Do not cut the angled edges off of your hexi’s until you unfold the sashing..... Muito lindo!!!Parabéns!Vou tentar fazer
You know, it's quilt designs like this one that make me think I'm cheating when it comes to quilting. Sometimes it's just too easy!!!
