I almost didn’t even watch this one because I thought there was NO WAY in the world I was ever going to make one…but you may have convinced me with this technique 😅
🤦♀️ how I wish that I had seen this method 3 years ago. I have done several small ones for babies, and it took me FOREVER ... lesson learnt! 😊 Thank you for sharing this. I am 70 years old, and for me 'everyday is a school day' 🧵🪡❤
My mother was a quilter at the behest of my gran. She made a puff quilt in the 80's that was beautiful, save the pea green and browns. She made each square individually by hand with gran, then sewed them together with a machine. Hottest quilt I EVER slept under. The quilt fell apart and Is no longer, but what an excellent way to make one! 😮 Brilliant🤍
I used this process to make a puff quilt for me college bound daughter last year and it turned out beautifully. Hers was huge though because it was large enough to cover the whole twin sized bed. I also used soft, white cotton fabric for the back because the minky fabric was a fortune even on sale.
‼️ GENIUS ‼️ I’ve always wanted to do a puff quilt. This is a game changer! Love your design wall AND your scrap organizer wall. I live in a small house with others. Once my bedroom is repainted, I’m “redecorating” with clear scrap containers similar to yours. I love how they brighten up your wall and are sooooo accessible. I’ve been following you for a while now, and I’m inspired with every video you do. ❤😊
Glad it was helpful Susan!❣️ Having the clear scrap pouches on the wall helps me use them up quick because I am looking at them everyday❣️ Have fun re decorating🤩
I’ve made 4 KING SIZE Puff Quilts, 1 for each of my children when they got married, using the old method. My husband keeps asking when he’ll get his, but between my 14 grands, I didn’t have the time I needed to do it…until now!! Thanks sooooo much! ❤
So awesome! I've been wanting to make a puff quilt for 40 years! I never have because sewing all those squares for a king size bed seemed so dauning. But now....I can absolutely do it! Thank you for sharing! You're brilliant!!!
I've always shied away from the puff quilts because of the crazy amount of work involved. Thank you SO much for this truly simplified version! Making these for grand kids to have at my very small house for naps and sleepovers :-) I also prefer the large squares. Your tutorials are really good and enjoyable.
Hi Tracy, AMAZING video! I am a very novice sewer and found your instructions to be incredibly beginner friendly and encouraging, so THANK YOU ❤️ Also wanted to add a quick note for those that are wanting to try this with a fleece front and minky back…I personally was able to follow Tracy’s instructions and completely LEAVE OFF the pleats! I made one fleece tester with pleats and one without, because I found pleating with fleece to be really difficult…the tester pieces came out looking nearly the same for me. The stretch of the fleece was just enough to not need the pleats. I’m so looking forward to cranking these out for Christmas presents this year!
My cousin's baby shower is today and a week ago I decided I wanted to make a baby quilt to gift her. I was going for simple but then I stumbled across puff quilts and was convinced that's what I wanted to do. I found this video and decided to go for it. Well, I did it! I finished the puff quilt last night. I did 6.5 inch blocks like you did. I did 8 by 10 and it turned out to be the perfect size. Thanks for this tutorial!
This method is great. I did sew my quilt top using my longarm. I-sewed onto minky with layer of polyester. Then stuffed squares as I sewed. Thank you for great project!
Oh my goodness Tracy I love the big puffs. I must admit though the smaller puffs were just the thing when I made a puff quilt top for my daughter's shelf where the cat and sometimes her small dog sit at the window. Now, the big puff for the day bed out on the deck. These animals really live in luxury!!!!
Oh, Dear God. I'm crafty and have too many hobbies. I've never quilted. THIS looks SO pretty and soft. The fabrics..... my mind is in overdrive. How am I going to resist this now ❓❓
I never thought of making a puff quilt like this. This is the method I used when making a weighted blanket for a friend's daughter, without the pleats. Thank you for sharing.
Omg! What an improvement over the one I started in 1963. Pure genius. Going to make one of these for soon-to-be-born great-grandson. Perfect playtime floor quilt! Hope to make it an I Spy. Thanks for great technique! ❤
@The Sewing Channel I recently found your channel, and your quilting hacks are genius!!! I switched my foot pedal and was shocked how fantastic it works and not hard to get used to! I also love how positive you are, so thank you for helping out a newby quilter!
Oh my gosh, thank you!! I wanted to make life hard for myself and do a double-sided puff quilt, but I had no idea how to enclose the squares and put them together without any exposed seams. This way makes it so simple!
Omg. I tried this the hard way years ago and made something that isn't even big enough to fit a dining seat because i quit after it was taking so long. I have a baby shower in 5 days and i am so thrilled that i came across this to make a colorful fluffy play mat.. THANK YOU for sharing!
Brilliant construction idea! No more little holes in the back of the puffs to sew up! You are so nice and friendly and fun, too. What a treat to watch. Thanks.
No. Freaking. Way. 🤣♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ I was putting my blocks together last night in the old fashioned way. But kept feeling something was wrong. Then I ended up on this video. I can't afford minky, but I think I have enough flannel. Thank you so much. I actually feel less defeated now lol! ❤❤❤ Edit to add, my charms were 4" square, and I had miscalculated. For whatever reason, I thought it would end up 2', but I've 10 charms in 9 colors (gonna see if I can fake a 10th color) so it will be huge. And it will work out perfectly as a gift for a friend who is having a baby this month.
I'm also using 10 charm packs for my first queen size puff quilt and I'd love to use this method! But I have cotton fabric for the backing, I wonder if I can also use batting underneath...?
As always an ingenious way to do something. I absolutely love every tutorial and this one is another winner. Thank you for always thinking out of the box. You are an inspiration and motivation for me. BTW I used a 20 oz bag so complete 142 inch 3.5 inch puff squares. I’m currently making one that is 520 squares and the finished block is 3.5 inch. Will send you pic on your email when done. I would also suggest anybody who wants to try a puff quilt try to make a doll one first. It’s a good practice for how it actually feels to make one. That’s what I did. Helped me a great deal.
I've been wanting to make one of these for so long. I think I'm going to give it a whirl! I love your tutorial, it was so informative and makes it seem less daunting to make a puff quilt!
This is amazing! I just watched other videos and was like nope can't do it very frustrating to sew. Then I said let's watch this one. And yep I'm gonna do it. Your video was amazing! Thank you!
I just got a sewing machine a few months ago, and this project was my first ever attempt at making a quilt of any sort. This tutorial was PERFECT! I am so happy with my first successful puff quilt, and I can't wait to use this method to make more!! Thank you for a fabulous video! 💗
Excellent tutorial! Your passion for quilting is displayed in your innovative ideas, and you engaging personality. I also appreciate that you take the time to read and reply to each of your comments. It helps us feel valued too 😉🥰 -- Ru
Tracey!! You have scored a big-grand-slam-home-run!! This quilt is so warm looking with it's minky backing. Would you ever put a fake binding on this type of construction?
Thank you Joy❣️ Great question...I think you could do a regular binding without "birthing the quilt". Just sew wrong sides together using same method as in the video...then bind it like you normally would after stuffing the puffs✅🤷🏻♀️
I did her original w 5in squares. I did put binding on it since it was for my infant niece. It was slightly fiddly since the quilt is not flat. But it wasnt to hard, and only took a little longer than usual. Totally worth it!.
This was so much fun to watch! Very innovative! Thank you for sharing. If I ever make a puff quilt, I will use your method. How would you recommend washing it?
I am making a puff quilt and have made many through the years. I was looking at different designs for inspiration when I came across your video. I was curious about your method so I watched your video. I really think that you should call it a "Mock" puff quilt. Puff quilts, aka pillow or biscuit quilts, are just that, puffs that are stuffed and sewn together. You acheived lovely results and it works for you. I just prefer to continue making mine in the original or traditional way.
Im a hobby quilter from South Africa Ravensmead W.Cape area. I just love your easy method of tbe puffy quilt....this will be my next project for 2024 winter season....hopefully its completed by that time.❤
I made a puff quilt your way and it works! Wish I could send you a picture! I totally agree with using bigger squares... I did 4.5 in (4 in finished) and they were hard to stuff! Thank you for your idea and tutorial!!
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. I think i have a Simplicity pattern from the 70’s for a puff wuilt, but never made one. This makes it seem easier, & also saves fabric (the traditional way, you sew each individual puff (top & bottom), then sew them together, then put a bavking on the whole thing!). Thank you!
🤯 I have always wanted to do a puffy quilt! And now you showed me a way that makes me know I can do this! I even have all the squares cut out. I'm going to go with larger squares like you did too! Thank you so much for this helpful video!!!
Love the larger squares... the "puffs" seem so much softer 🤷♀or more comfortable to sleep under. Love me a red and white quilt, also. Thanks for sharing, blessings to y'all.
I love the way your mind works! Thank you ♥️. I've always wanted a puff quilt but not the effort they require. This is a total game changer!!! Think I'll start with a baby quilt for the neighbors' newborn 😊
Brilliant. Loveit. Always wanted to make another but the girst onevwas a killer. Baby loved it. Now I can do it again. Perfect for baby to play on. She loved the metallic fabrics .😊. All solid colors and no pieces wouod really be easy. Jusy mark grids. Pleat and stuff. Pillows too for a tiny project but baby blankets are small. Thanks for sharing
Omg I love you. Lol. Birthing, stitch in the ditch….enough talking already! I’ve been watching your videos about this puff quilt and have never moved forward with it because I’m just a sewing novice. Your newest tutorial has given me courage. Now I have to get a new square for the newer size.
I love your way of doing this, I made one many years ago and every family member has asked for one but it was so hard to make one block at a time just did not want to make another one! Now I will
I was looking for a different quilt video on youtube when i came across this one. Its not what i want for my current project but i am going to make this for my other half this Christmas. He loves lying on the floor in the living room, if i do a long rectangle he can use it as a bit of a matress! And of course i can do it in his favourite colour!
you are a genius! I started a puff quilt about 20 years ago, got two rows done and gave up, it's a king size. Maybe I'll dig it out and finish it. Thank you
I almost didn’t even watch this one because I thought there was NO WAY in the world I was ever going to make one…but you may have convinced me with this technique 😅
Awesome❣️ It will take you a quarter of the time of a traditional Puff quilt to make🤩
🤦♀️ how I wish that I had seen this method 3 years ago. I have done several small ones for babies, and it took me FOREVER ... lesson learnt! 😊 Thank you for sharing this. I am 70 years old, and for me 'everyday is a school day' 🧵🪡❤
PS - you have a new subscriber ❤ 😀
Thank you for supporting my channel Washiela❣️Welcome❣️
Washiela- I’ve made three puff blankets and swore I would NEVER do it again. After seeing this…. I’m heading to the fabric store!! Lol
🤣🤣🤣
Hi, I'm just wondering how do they wash up?
The first time I saw a puff quilt was 1972. My grandmother called it a biscuit quilt.
This tutorial is better than ANY I have seen so far. I've been researching the best way, and I love your technique!
My mother was a quilter at the behest of my gran. She made a puff quilt in the 80's that was beautiful, save the pea green and browns. She made each square individually by hand with gran, then sewed them together with a machine.

I love your quilt! This technique looks much more doable than others I have watched… thank you for sharing it!
So much easier than the traditional method❣️

Wow that's a lot of Puffy goodness there you've made❣️ This method is sure to speed up your puff making now❣️🎉
@jolenegriffen661 how many squares did you use? I only have a 61/2 inch square ruler.i want to make a king that hangs over bed.please and ty
@@bonniecourson4615did you ever do this for a king size? If cutting 6.5” squares, how many did you end up needing?

Your opening should be “Hi, Friends. Tracy here from The Sewing Channel with another GENIUS idea for you “. I love this. Your videos are the bomb!
LOL🤣 Your comment made me laugh❣️ Thank you so much for your support Sharon..I really do appreciate it❣️

I love you! You are not afraid to find new ways for old patterns. This pattern has made a comeback with the modern quilters and old ones too!
Thank you so much for your support Barbara❣️

Oh my gosh, thank you, I’ve made many puff quilts, (the hard way) I’m going to make a baby quilt, your way ❤🇨🇦
I’ve now made 2 baby puff quilts this way, you have really made this so easy for me, less fabric, less time, again thank you so much ❤️🇨🇦
I have wanted to make a puff quilt, got to get my hubby to help me make a sewing table, so I have a nice large place to work!
Thanks Tracy ☺️ this is now on my todo list. Take care 🙂 💕
You're welcome❣️ Super fun quilt to make❣️
Just found this very helpful video, thanks! Could you do the backing with a basic woven fabric that doesn't stretch?
Oh my gosh. I remember this type of quilt years. Making little squares and then stuffing and then sewing all the stuffed squares together
❣️
This is just a strawberry shortcake delicious of a quilt with all those reds and whites!! 🎂🍓 yum😛
🍓yum❣️

Just bought the orange ombre puff fat quarters and am for sure trying your method instead, thanks for sharing!
I love minky!!!! so cuddly. but it does produce tons of flakes.
Pinch 1/4 inch! Love this!!😂😂
Super easy 🤩
Wow! The quilt is beautiful, and you are such a good teacher. Thank you!
Beautiful quilt! I like the looks of the 61/2 " square and I also love how easy it was to sew the quilt to the back!
I just got a sewing machine a few months ago, and this project was my first ever attempt at making a quilt of any sort. This tutorial was PERFECT! I am so happy with my first successful puff quilt, and I can't wait to use this method to make more!! Thank you for a fabulous video! 💗
Great job!
You are so innovative!
Thank you for this tutorial! I have been wanting to make one.. do you have a video on how you layer the squares (if that make sense). I’m a newbie
Excellent tutorial! Your passion for quilting is displayed in your innovative ideas, and you engaging personality. I also appreciate that you take the time to read and reply to each of your comments. It helps us feel valued too 😉🥰 -- Ru

❣️Thank you for the kind words Charlotte. Wash and dry as normal✅
I am soooo going to make one of those and I love how you chose 6.5" blocks, 10 of them to fit minky 60" wide. brilliant. I do that all the time
I am making a puff quilt and have made many through the years. I was looking at different designs for inspiration when I came across your video. I was curious about your method so I watched your video. I really think that you should call it a "Mock" puff quilt. YOU ARE A GENIUS! I can hardly wait to make a quilt like this!!
I made a triangle Christmas tree skirt years ago in puff style. It was awesome! I love the 6 inch squares better and your reds just call to me lol
I love the reds too❣️
I’m almost finished with mine! I used my walking foot after sewing “my U”.
Умница и трудяга, золотые ✋🖐👋
Im a hobby quilter from South Africa Ravensmead W.Cape area. I just love your easy method of tbe puffy quilt....this will be my next project for 2024 winter season....hopefully its completed by that time.❤
All I can saw is A-W-E-S-O-M-E !!!!!
I made a puff quilt your way and it works! Wish I could send you a picture! I totally agree with using bigger squares... I did 4.5 in (4 in finished) and they were hard to stuff! Thank you for your idea and tutorial!!
Thank you for letting me know this technique worked for you❣️ Email me a pic of your quilt to thesewingchannel33@gmail.com ✅
WOW! You are so darn smart! You made puff quilts EASY! Thank you!😊
I wanted to make one so bad that I had to come up with an easier way LOL🤣
I use that sewing machine too - CANNOT love it enough! and also - love this quilt!
That puff quilt turned out beautiful! Your directions are always easy to understand. Thank you for taking your time and sharing with us. 🇺🇸
You are so welcome Linda❣️
For the life of me over the years of quilting, I still can't stitch in the ditch straight. 😭😭
@@kjeanjbean have you tried a walking foot? Total game changer.
Thank you!

You can do it!❣️
This is why I like tied quilts, not quilted quilts, so much softer and "moveable".
True....✅
Another beautiful quilt! Thanks for the detailed tutorial! 😘
Thank you RDMHD! 😊 ❣️
Genius! I'm now feeling more equipped to make a puff quilt for my great-grandson. Love the way you teach and I really enjoy your channel ❤
Love the larger squares... the "puffs" seem so much softer 🤷♀or more comfortable to sleep under. Love me a red and white quilt, also. Thanks for sharing, blessings to y'all.
I totally agree!❣️
Замечательный способ! Обязательно им воспользуюсь, порадую свою внучку таким уютным одеяльцем. Спасибо за ваши уроки. Успехов в творчестве.🌹🌹🌹
Спасибо❣️
This has blown my mind! I think even a novice like me could attempt it. Thank you so much x
I love this quilt. Thank you for the tutorial ❤
I just unboxed my first sewing machine im so excited. I hope i can eventually sew this good. Still satisfying to watch
I made this quilt so fun I made a baby puff quilt with a pillow and a Kimberbell fox so so fun
Awesome❣️
what a great idea!!! It's the same way I do the weighted blankets, but would never have thought of this! Thank you!!
I love the way your mind works! Thank you ♥️. I've always wanted a puff quilt but not the effort they require. This is a total game changer!!! Think I'll start with a baby quilt for the neighbors' newborn 😊
These make wonderful baby quilts Frances...Have fun with it❣️
I love his! I don’t know that I have ever heard of a puffy quilt! ❤
Brilliant.
Brilliant! I’m going to use this to make puffy chair pads and it’s going to go so quickly!
Brilliant!
After seeing this, I’m definitely going to make one👍🏼
I've never sewn any kind of quilt before. Now, I'm wanting to make one of these. TYSM for sharing this video with us. Love your channel. 😻👍😍
❤️
I love this method!! I will make many more puff quilts because of this. Do you have a video on how to add a boarder to a baby puff quilt?
No border vid yet ✅
I love the pink quilt on your right side. So beautiful. Thank you for a great tutorial.
Love it,, this is Great 👍 👌
I like this method. The puffs look better than the individual ones.
I totally agree..this technique looks so much more "high end"(construction wise) than traditional way❣️
Omg I love you.
