    Make it much easier... sew all 4 sides, the sew the quilt together....then use seam ripper in the back of each square make a 1 in or less hole & then stuff. Hand stitch to close the hole. 2-3 whip stitches.. so much easier than trying to sew stuffed columns together.

    My grand mother would sew all 4 sides first piece them together and open small slit in back of square then stuff and hand sew the small slits then add batting to back cover then pin the stuffed bubbles to right side of fabric and sew them together leaving an opening to turn inside out. Then close the opening and bind the quilt and as extra she would "stitch the ditches."
    She could make baby quilt to a full quilt in a day if she had help stuffing the squares and stitching the opening closed. Usually the stuffers n hand skewers were me n my cousins. Fond memories of learning to sew. Lol she and my mom would save their old panty hose or leotards and have us kids cut them into 1 inch squares to use as pillow stuffing or quilt stuffing if we ran out of cotton or down fill. Gave me a real love/ hate on panty hose and leotards.

    When I made one of these for a baby shower, it was called a "Biscuit Quilt" because it looked like a pan of biscuits. Enjoyed making it. Mine were puckered at the corners and sewn all the way around. The smaller, underneath piece of fabric got a small slit in it for stuffing the biscuits. Then with the backing, it all stayed inside.

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  3 года назад

      @Penny Yes, the backing helps create a seamless and sturdy look to this quilt. Since the seams and back of the individual "biscuits" are not seen, as Jen mentions, you are able to use a less expensive fabric for those. Make sure you check out the pattern here on our Free Downloads page: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Free-Downloads.aspx -Michelle

    How do you keep the seams from raveling out would you not use a zigzag stitch ? Iam wanting to make one for my great grandbaby

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  3 года назад

      Great question! No zigzag is necessary as the raw edges are encased inside the bubbles the way this is constructed. :)

    I haven't done one of these in many a year. Love the technique of starting with a flat row and then stuffing. I think I'd be inclined to make another flat row and attach it, then stuff and sew shut. That way you are only managing one row of puffiness at a time. I have a bag full of biscuits somewhere so I'll give this a try.
    I love the idea of arranging the biscuits into a design. My bag of biscuits are all scrappy but perhaps I can find a design in there somewhere. Have to lay them out on the bed and see what happens.

    This is my first quilt in going to make from Shabby Fabrics. I have the fabric from looking at the cut directions from their site. In which they are an inch too short.
    Anyone who looks at these directions from the site, add an inch to each different fabric. Bc my fabric... with taking the smallest about of salvage off... still not enough. My squares are going to be 4 1/2" instead of 5"for the top. If I keep the original 5" for top...I will have 81 bubbles with a lot of waste (4" of waste) instead of: 13 rows by 9 rows is 117 bubbles for this quilt.
