    Nice review. This car is awesome! Not quite as fast as the current Mustang GT or Camaro SS, but still a beast in it's own right. I picked up an 18 R/T Plus (no Shaker though) and I look forward to driving my Challenger every day. That V8 cold start never fails to bring a smile to my face.

      Plenty of fun to be had as evidenced by the video. And it isn't slow by any means, it just doesn't have the stones that it should for the price point IMHO. But it you see it as a GT car it starts to make 100% sense. And have fun driving your R/T! Super comfortable cruisers with great sound and styling!

    If you think that's comfortable, you should try sitting in SRT seats sometime. They are awesome and a combination of sports and luxury that are not like any other that I've seen. You can take a trip across the country in comfort and then they hold you in place when you're hitting some hard G forces, so they are very versatile and love my Challenger inside out 💜

      Well if I were in Texas you could review mine but we are located in AZ, so I cant help you unfortunately but am sure that you will eventually find somebody with one. If you have never been in one, I think that you will be impressed with how well they handle for the size of the beasts. The suspension is superior to the RT and is not just about power which most people don't mention when comparing the two and makes a huge difference, the Bilsteins and Brembo breaks are awesome. When you do find one, test those Gs at launch and on turns & you will see what I mean by the sporty bolstered SRT seats as well as their comfort

  • @lyndonohue3350
    @lyndonohue3350 Год назад +1

    Great review! You made the point that many miss, which is that the R/T is a blast to drive. It is a time warp machine, taking you back to Cragar SS wheels, glass packs and AM radio. You can buy faster cars, better handling cars, and have bragging rights over the R/T, but none of them offer the dame experience that driving the R/T offers. If someone wants more power, the 5.7 is a good platform to build up. Sad to see this car end. It was the only new car to truly capture the nostalgia of the bygone muscle car era of the 60's-70's.

    • @TheDutchTexan
      @TheDutchTexan  Год назад

      Arguably the better looking car vs the other two and especially after the 2015 refresh. They could make them forever and never lose profit honestly. We’re headed into a pretty boring era if things go full EV.

  • @Sportimus
    @Sportimus 5 лет назад +5

    This is possibly one of the best and most enjoyable reviews of a Challenger I have seen so far. Well done! My ONLY issue with the Challenger is that she's a bit big. If Dodge made this car around 6 inches shorter and a couple of inches narrower, she'd be lighter and a bit more on par size-wise with the Mustang and Camaro. At the same time, you can actually comfortable fit 4 adults in the car, which you can't do in a Mustang or Camaro. And you can haul. Love that shaker hood. My favorite option on this car. It may not be the fastest, but I think the 5.7 V8 is still very respectable with a 0-60 in around 5.5 seconds.

    • @TheDutchTexan
      @TheDutchTexan  5 лет назад +3

      It's still plenty quick for sure! And I think part of the reason why it has been selling so well is the girth. I mean, I am dead serious when I say I would trade my daily for a Scat Pack shaker in a heartbeat if I could. Probably in the same color as this car, Destroyer Grey. Either that or a white one. Because Kowalski LIVES! I know, his was a vanilla hood hemi challenger. But still... Would rock!

    I always loved the look of the challenger, I was in the market for one a couple years ago, but the price for an r/t is kinda up there in price and I was reconsidering a mustang at times

    • @TheDutchTexan
      @TheDutchTexan  6 лет назад

      The mustang was and still is the best bargain. Hard to discount the awesome looks and GT nature of the R/T though.

    • @lovethesmellofracefuelinth7374
      @lovethesmellofracefuelinth7374 5 лет назад

      Mumble I know and it is precisely why I bought an older SRT in excellent condition with an extended warranty for 24k. It's also why I waited until I could do it and passed on the RT. These cars are awesome and a lot of fun to drive, but everyone knows they are heavy. Therefore you need to go big on the motor as well if you really want to be competitive and is not just about power. The suspension is also much better and is another reason in itself, the bilsteins and brembos add to the performance attributes of the car so it's the way to go

    I think the term you're looking for is "cruiser". Challengers are built well for cruising. Lots of practical room, very comfortable seats, enough weight that you don't feel every little bump in the road. Yeah you do need at least a scat pack to not feel the weight so much when turning. I had a R/T. It was like controlling a boat but it wasn't a horrible experience. I traded the R/T in on a scat pack and the difference was fantastic. It was far more nimble. I love challengers. They're the best all around muscle car.

    I disagree with one point. I had a 14 shaker. I loved the not lowered factory stance. Muscle cars back in the late sixties/early seventies were not lowered. If anything the rear was raised slightly. My 14’s stance from the factory reminded me of that. PS It handled better than my 2019 scat pack.

    • @TheDutchTexan
      @TheDutchTexan  4 года назад +1

      My '05 Mustang GT has that "muscle" stance too. It is about an inch too high off the ground for it to look good though. The only cars that IMHO can really pull off that old muscle car look are the old muscle cars. Newer cars just look silly with the back end raised. Probably because you don't see a beefy pumpkin, with leaf springs and traction bars. Always loved that look.

      you MUST get snow tires for snow, if not dont even bother driving this in winter conditions, its reciepe for disaster being a rwd car with this much power

    I love this car but here's what I'm afraid of. This car is the one I really want...maybe an SRT Scat Shaker... but I think this would be enough if it came down to $$$. What worries me is that I go ahead and finally order a 2020 exactly the way I want it and then the rumours start flying and spy shots and RUclips videos of a whole new redesign 400 lbs lighter with a modern 5.7 Hemi that rivals the Mustang and Camaro V8 cars. That would make me sick.

    • @TheDutchTexan
      @TheDutchTexan  5 лет назад +1

      There is the fact that the platform is aging. So sooner or later there will be a change. And when that happens the value of the current gen will take a nosedive. They have been pretty rock solid for years, you can't even get a low mile second hand for a significant discount over brand new. But, even if it happens, you are still driving a groundpounder. And the 2015 and up Challengers are fine looking rides! Timeless!

      Golf R no contest. That car is way more usable than the RT and gets better gas mileage. It is also faster.

    am wondering if my 02 dakota r/t is faster than this,it for sure winds faster with 3.92 gear,but has overdrive,an must have 93 octane or it will rattle,someone changed computer for timing advance and also whole k an n filter system,so mine has about 25 maybe more horsepower over stock,but has some w eird issues,passing gear wont undo,you have to let off,an it hits 90 or so very quick.. been driving it 13 years an baby it...maybe has stiff springs too,but we had to put somekinda fix on trans,an still it shifts weird,an acts up a little, sometime takes 10 mintes to warm up,an other times 30 seconds an is ready,even dumb ass dealers cant figure it out,they only want money..im on disability,an cant do crap,but its still very fast,i changed filthy huge k an n filter to a new one,an now its faster an chirps tires hard an pulls you back in the seat. 94,000 miles,an we never put plugs in etc yet..the wife died with cancer,an r/t is all i got for 13 years,an is still a blast,but had to do radiater, one wheel bearing an water pump in last couple years,it will come out from under you, i wanna take it to dragstrip so bad,but what will break next..the r/t,s have all the power in by about 4500 r pm,there all about torgue...

      Not pointless, just not as quick as one would want.

    • @JimS870
      @JimS870 5 лет назад +1

      I wouldn't say it's underpowered. The 5.7 doesn't have the punch of the 6.4, but it's a potent engine, especially around town with some good grunt. And this is coming from a 5.0 coyote guy not a Mopar guy.
      What do you drive, out of curiosity?

      It does 60 in 4.5 with 275s not underpowered id say its balanced out and it feels amazing to when u get in any challenger it always feels very fast its not slow still considered fast with a tune headers and a cam it can beat a 392 to a 100mph plus stock it can easily hit 157 might even hit 160
