@@xsterawesome I picked loaded 2022 F150 Lariat 3.5L Powerboost Full Hybrid 502a 3 days ago, I can never own a battery car of any kind for my family use, mainly RV hauling, Camping etc. However to go get groceries, I may buy a small cheaper EV, like Chevy Bolt. This is time for Hybrid, will see where EV technology is in next decade.
That wasn't even a big impact That was insane at 45k to repair. Once the insurance company gets a few of these EV repairs expect insurance to go X10 in cost
Note that only the wiring harness repair was unique to the Lightning. The other parts such as grille , sensors, front of the frame, headlights, etc are also used on a regular F150. This repair would cost a similar amount regardless.
Collision repair is like healthcare - prices are set to the maximum allowed in order to top out insurance claims. $43k is absolutely nuts for that work.
It's not a reasonable repair cost. But then the truck is too expensive too. Bumper and brackets are about 2K or less. ( I have replaced 2 of them in the past 8 years due to rear ends. The rest of that charge is just nuts
That ball hitch extension is not a good Idea. The torque or torsion of any impact on that will cause the hitch and attachments at the frame to fold under the truck and bend your frame - you would be better of without it.
Don't leave the hitch on the truck. All the impact force will be transferred directly to the frame. Bumpers are designed to absorb impact. Instead of replacing a bumper you're potentially looking at very costly frame damage. The only way that strategy will work is if the impact isn't hard enough to bend the frame.
In the case of the more exstensive accident, I would be curious to hear about the cost to repair vs. a favorably equipped gas version of the same truck. It looks like that body shop is doing a great job documenting the repair.
The battery pack alone is costing at least$45k need to be replace in every 5 years according wikipedia with or without getting in an accident in other words stay far away from EV period 😂
We see that amount of damage to the white Lightning. The question I have is how hard was the hit? I did not see airbags deployment evidence. Was that damage all done from a 10 to 15 mph impact? If that is all the speed was, that truck is not made to take a bump. Not ‘Ford Tough’ more like pop can flimsy. No wonder a lot of of pickup truck owners add stout brush guards. I do see all the extra structure beef that us evident in the photos of the white lightning. But dang, does it have to be put together in such a way that a mediocre impact costs $48,000 to $50,000 to fix? That’s a big pile of green currency! And that distracted love tap your truck bot in the rear rump? All I got to say about that is that’s definitely not a bumper that can take a bump. What’s the point of spending all that treasure on a truck that’s so delicate, it cannot take a little bump and shrug it off?
The MSRP of the truck is around $80-88k. Most insurance companies won’t total a vehicle out until the repair is 75% of the value of the vehicle. So in this case, the repairs would need to exceed $60k in order to total out the vehicle.
$43,000 is an expensive repair. But what was the purchase price or value of that vehicle? Clearly, it was far from being totaled. It was also interesting to see the collision centers labor rates. I know there is overhead in those rates. But it looks like mechanics can earn a good living. Or should I say Electric vehicles, qualified mechanics!
Suprised you didnt talk about the Battery Stability.. since everybody Hates on electric batteries being explosive & dangerous.. how the White Lightning with full Head on collision & your personal Rear end collision didnt affect the battery
43 grand to repair!!!! I wonder what is your insurance premium for this vehicle with the insurance companies knowing it is going to cost 43 grand to repair... 5 grand a month insurance..
That's pretty selfish to create a spear tip with that hitch. If someone gets smacked from behind and pushed into you, you're causing unnecessary risk to driver and occupants of the victim vehicle.
@@vincer8691 did you even read the last sentence? I like keeping the draw bar in the hitch however, sometimes there are accidents where it will bend the frame instead of crashing the cosmetic parts. It’s a trade off.
Obscene! You can buy a whole new truck (yes, not a Lightning) for that kind of money. Ford OEM parts are expensive and the dealer is soaking the insurance company on top of that. $1666 for a single headlight assembly is ridiculous at every level. Dealer parts and service departments are supposed to have an absorption rate of over 100% in dealership mills. That is they could give cars away and still pay the entire cost of the operation thru parts and service departments. Many dealers run well above the 100% mark. When insurance companies refuse to pay these prices maybe the situation will improve. Till then it's bend over and grab your socks.
I agree with your View. I had my EV in a tiny impact event. The plastic bumper cover was broken out in one corner. It took weeks to get the part and repair it. The price was high, but not as bad as I expected. Headlights? my neighbor has the F-150 truck 'with lipstick' called the Caddy pickup truck ; It cost her A$250.00USD for a headlight bulb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cybertruck has a metal plate attached to the rear casting attached to the structural battery. That impact is transfered through the body. Any transfer damage and the Cybertruck will be totalled.
Cybertruck? Really? It's a fairytale. I have seen four year old kids draw a better truck design. Let Elon borrow $100 of your money in the name of a "pre-order" (wink wink) interest free and in two years, nothing has been delivered yet and now he shifted his ADD/ADHD to the acquisition of Twitter.
