#hummer #rivian #lightning
Neighbour has a Rivian, tried it out for a day, had a Lightning out and have owned plenty of f150’s, ended up with a Hummer 2X. I haul heavy, relatively small skid sized loads. The Hummer is kind of wacky, but it’s fun, it fits in my garage, and I smile every day driving it. Lease will be up in 2 years, technology will have improved, but I will bet my next truck won’t make me grin every time I walk up to it.
First EV Truck delivery dates were Rivian Sept 2021, Hummer EV Dec 2021, F-150 Lightning May 2022
Rivian. People keep saying the Rivian bed is small but you have to add the gear tunnel as part of the bed so it is almost 5.6 foot bed because the gear tunnel is a lockable storage box in most trucks with lock boxes in their beds.
Rivian! Actually plan to take delivery (finally) in January, although it cannot replace my Diesel Cummins for towing cross-country after driving one it is as close to perfection as it gets for everything else.
I would pick the lighting
2nd thought... I would LOVE to see ford take the lightning approach with the Ranger and even the maverick.
I would go with the R1T. I think it's the most innovative. It's also the best off-road and I like the size. I don't need a full-size truck and I certainly don't need a 9000 lb truck.
Too bad rivian is going broke...spending a billion a month to keep going isn't a solid business plan. Hopefully they get bailed out.
@@youtubecantsaveallthesnowf8601 Startups usually show big losses in early years and so rely on investors to keep funding them. At this point Rivian may have enough going for it that if it can’t raise more investment a larger car maker may buy it. I’d guess in several years there will still be Rivians being made, but perhaps with a Japanese name badge.
@STOG rivian has a fisker feeling. I heard rumors that Apple might buy it....but nothing official from apple.
@@youtubecantsaveallthesnowf8601 Fair point. Going back some decades, DeLorean also went out of business even though I did see some on the road way back when.
@@youtubecantsaveallthesnowf8601 That's more likely than a Japan badge, Japanese companies already have e-tech and no interest in debt loading their companies. Apple could use Rivian for tax offsets potentially.
Andre is a Ford guy so his pick of the Lightning is not surprising. Living in a city I would go for the RIVIAN hands down. Rivian RT1 is right in-between a full size and a mid-size truck in size which is better for city parking. While it gives you the same power as a full sized truck.
I need a truck with a mid gate. I currently have a Model 3 that I take “overland” camping. I sleep inside the cabin on a air mattress and have a cargo box on the racks for all my camping gear. Car camping with HVAC on all night is a game changer. I have pre-ordered Chevy Evalanche and Tesla Cybertruck. I expect to choose between one of those two unless another truck with mid gate appears on market.
I saw my first rivian in dyer Indiana last week
For a personal vehicle I would go with the Rivian. For a work vehicle would consider the first one that offers a crew cab with an 8 foot box.
I'm with Nathan on this one ... same reasons. Of those 3 options the Rivian is the best fit for my typical suburban homeowner situation. However ... it's too expensive ... I'm waiting for a Maverick Lightning.
I’m not into EV’s at all but I am a GM guy specifically a GMC guy and that GMC Sierra is very nice and seems to be pretty capable along with towing and payload capacity. Range and charging needs to come a long way especially when your talking charging availability when camping and driving and not having to stop for a few hours on each drive to fill up. $$$.$$$.$$ isn’t an option like you both mentioned of course because for a common blue collar guy most are out of the equation. Good video guy’s.👍
I have a preorder for a Rivian R1S. If I were picking a truck I would also pick the R1T
Current waiting on my Rivian reservation but I would really love a all electric Wrangler down the line.
Rivian!! Just waiting on my delivery date.
Can y’all do a review on the Citroën Oli
rivian for sure. I love the canoo though, will see how the final product looks like
Lightening is the most comfortable and the quietest and with the most usable space, so it would be my choice.
Rivian RT1 - right size for urban/suburban living and trails.
If I could buy one it would be a f150 lightning pro but if ask to get the carpet on the pro model. And I'll be ok I don't need all that tech to be cool I'd stick with the base model and be ok
I’m going to be picking between the lightning and Silverado EV, I think. I’ve got a reservation in for the Silverado, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it meets their range claims and how mature the software is.
Rivian all the way for families and as an adventure vehicle, been waiting for my R1S. Depends on your needs, the Lightning sounds like a good work truck. Love what Rivian stands for, we need to support new good homegrown companies.
Next year want to see the iD-Buzz versus Canoo will be the best multi purpose comparison on such full electric affordable vehicles...
I Like Andre's Choice!👍👍. Most Practical, cost effective truck and volume seller so far. And for about eighty percent of population (users), The Range is more than enough.
Lightning
I want all the bells and whistles but don't need the bigger battery.
That frunk is a big deal
I pre ordered the hummer and absolutely love it !! Can’t wait
Have had all three delivered
All very nice in own regards.
The Hummer EV is the best ride and most fun to drive. Need some help on OS and “chime”
*if you know you know 😂
AND… really GMC.. no phone as key.. or card key?
Ford did a great job… Frunk is #1. Size is great.. BUT… battery at highway speeds is terrible.
(Yes we had extended range)
Rivian … sexy…great interior.. but is third on our list over all. Small for a “truck”. And mechanical/build issues I would be careful.
Great video men. Keep them coming!
I'm with andre Ford lightning.
I'd take the Rivian for ONE reason... No dealership to deal with. The dealership sales model is antiquated and needs to die.
Rivian for now. Ram looks interesting.
Rivian for me, I already own it. The ford was impressive. Dream rig though is the electric Wrangler (yeah, I know, not a truck).
Bedford TK please
Only 1 truck has the potential ability to solve our nation's power grid deficiencies. So, for me, the Lightnings vehicle to load capabilities make it the easy choice. The Rivian and Hummer are just trucks, the lighting is $80k of whole house battery backup with a truck thrown in for free!
This tug of war between trucks was done and it is something that none of you guys would do so we loved that. Everybody wanted this but you reviewers would never do it!
How about an all electric Maverick?
With all the money, I’m still keeping my 20 year old F-150.
Maybe in another 20 years, I’ll consider it.
For my money, R1T
Leading the way was the F-150 Lightning, which continues as the (COUNTRY'S BEST SELLING ELECTRIC-PICKUP) Since its launch in JUNE, Ford has sold a total of 8,760 units. With numbers like that, it’s unsurprising that the Lightning is one of Ford’s fastest-turning vehicles on dealer lots, averaging only 8 days.
Ford’s share of the US electric vehicle market increased by 3% over September 2021, reaching 7%. 2nd place only behind tesla and ahead of hyundai and gm in 4th place
R1T is my choice too. I also happen to be driving one. Not a super fan of the front but function of the lights cannot be questioned. The lights are best stock I have ever had. I wanted a $45000 configured pro version but didn’t work out. Now likely $55K. Still waiting but happy with my 75K rivian much more than an equally configured Lightning. If the rivian was full price still would have got it over the lightning. I am so tired of Ford service. Rivian has been great. They even came to my friend to do a warranty issue 6 hours from service center
Rivian for me due to its size, and my lifestyle is their target market (surf, camp, bike, snowboard, DIY, helping with SO's window restoration business, etc). I would be happy if Ford had a smaller option, like an all-electric Maverick.
I will wait for the cyber truck!
R1t
I’m all about the Rivian. This may be a dumb question but would there be any issue with any of these launching my boat in salt water? I’m sure the water is no issue but wondering about how all that tech will react to the salt.
What about Canoo?
I would buy the one that you can park next to an ocean estate for years and it has zero salt corrosion.
Rivian R1T all the way.
835 hp
0-60 in 3 seconds
15 inches of ground clearance
Tows 11k
1600 payload “don’t quote me on that”
A motor on all wheels
Full skid plates underneath
34s factory
Gear tunnel storage is icing on the cake.
LordsTown already looks previous gen.
Any testing information as to the battery performance during low winter temperatures and high summer temperatures? With these 3 EVs
I just cancelled my R1T due to price increases and the fact that despite having the reservation for close to 2 years I never received an estimated delivery date.
I still have reservations for the Silverado EV, Atlis and Ace. The latter two may just be vapor ware but the Silverado EV will come and I have the most hope for it. I would really prefer the Allis but progress has been minimal.
It’s ironic that the guy driving a traditional N/A V6 is calling the the guy driving a hybrid electric turbo truck with a 7.2kW generator output afraid of technology.
I d still wait for the cybertruck because of the supercharger network.
Rivian R1T for me but the Ford Lighting and the Chevy Silverado EV are close 2nd and 3rd.
In tesla's defence, they really didn't have the capacity and resource to build the cyber truck. With the previous technology, it was impossible to profit from that truck. Ford, Rivian, GM loss money from selling their Ev truck, that's why they can't scale up their production.
Own a F150 lightning lariat SR. Great size for a family of 4. Will be used as a daily driver and for doing truck things around the metro but have an older ICE for road trips when they occur. I like that it's electric in stealth mode--you recognize it if you know what you're looking for, but otherwise it doesn't scream EV. Great vehicle to drive, and I like that it came from an established manufacturer.
9:42 How many production trucks (or production vehicles in general) had over 800 horsepower and 700+ lb-ft of torque 20 years ago?
What about Canoo? What's going on with them?
I'd do the Lightning all day long... in the long run, getting parts will be much easier with it. Imagine getting hit by another car in the Rivian, and needing a door or bumper? For a daily vehicle, Lightning
You forgot to mention the brand Canoo. Any thoughts on this one?
8:32 I choose the Rivian R1S.
Lightning
I'm with Nathan on the Rivian
I just get F150 work for me If there problems with truck just bring to local Dealership.
Definitely the Ford Lightening, except I want a supercab with a 6.5 foot box.
Thank you, Nathan, for making the point that a tug of war is useless information! Nathan, as usual, is 100% correct.
I like the size of the Rivian, and the dealer network of the Ford. I'd pick the Rivian, the size would work better for my suburban lifestyle.
Fair... look at the prices. Now thats not fair!
Hands down I would take the Rivian for many of the reasons stated including its reasonable size relative to the over compromising size of the alternatives. From what I can tell, the tech wins, design, user experience, range basically a wash, customer service is next level from what I can understand even vs Tesla. Rivian all day.
I would get a hybrid personally I like the technology better.
👍Two guys who KNOW trucks! FORD for me. Can’t argue with their truck-market dominance.
I love my Lightning. I went with the Lariat due to wanting the larger battery. The one thing you didn't cover, is it's not just a vehicle. They have setup to be a mobile power station that can actually power things. That is what sold me to put in my reservation. I like the look of the R1T and would consider it. But if I have issues, I can go to my local Ford dealership or any in the nation to get some help. The Hummer is an expensive toy. Not to mention GM hasn't exactly been known for the most reliable electrical components over the years. You saw ford putting the lightning to the test all over. It gave me more confidence. I have towed with my lightning, I have a popup camper, and it pulls .3kwh from my range. But for any of these the charging network sucks ass! I kept my 2016 F150 because the charging network is so bad.
No one needs a mobile power station.
@richpuller1348 The multi-billion dollar portable generator industry disagrees.
@@richpuller1348 I have used it for my camper. End of the day boating, throw some food on an electric griddle. I carry a 120v air compressor and have air up other peoples tires and even my own when I got a nail. And I plan to be off grid in a few years and make use of it as backup power that can be taken to charger in town when needed refreshed.
I am currently waiting on my solar panels to get here to charge it up since I currently don't drive it much.
@@richpuller1348 Living in Hurricane territory I would disagree. It would be useful for power outages but there are other reasons I would not want one.
Any truck person will say they all have there own issues but won't hate it
Rivian!
Canoo, all the utility in a smaller package.
I would take the Rivian out of those choices.
I’m waiting until the infrastructure improves and the bugs are worked out. But in a perfect world I agree with Nathan, Rivian.
Dont discount the cybertruck, im pretty sure by end of nex year atleast some will be delievered. People were laughing at the semi too and it seems like it outperforms anything out there.
For me, it's the vagueness that Elon and Tesla shroud their vehicles in. The semi is a good example, it's technically on sale (dont think any private owners or small businesses are being considered, only large corporations that likely have an NDA in place) but there really isnt much information about it still. Yes it SEEMS to outperform the competition, but without independent testing it keeps me hesitant to recommend anything from them early on in a production cycle.
I would never drive a cyberturd. By far the ugliest vehicle ever. I have no idea who designed it, but they shouldn't be allowed to manage a Subway sandwich shop.
Good review. I agree the Hummer is just a big, expensive toy. If you want it and can afford it, great. If you need a legit work truck, I think the Lightning is the best choice. If you want a lifestyle, mid-size, off-road capable truck, then Rivian all the way. I think they're both good choices, but with very different strengths.
Do you NOT get the Chinese EV smaller pick-ups in USA ?
R1T because of size
As the only truck, the Lightning would be my choice. I’m disappointed that what I’ve seen of the Silverado electric indicates it is not a truck. Mid gates are ok for non working vehicles, but not trucks.
Lightning, though it would be nice if Ford electrified the Maverick. Lightning is just an Electric F150 and that makes it so much less worry free and made by a tried and true vehicle manufacturer which earns trust points instantly. It is also noteworthy that F150 pro is a truck that does truck thing for guys who need/like trucks and at an affordable price. No one else has done that.
I like the Rivian, but it would cost my entire life's savings. I think Nissan should go for making an electric truck based on the Frontier, and make it the affordable alternative. Or, maybe... Honda? A Ridgeline electric would be interesting.
I wouldn't spend my money on one until the Cybertruck comes out and we get a comparison. That said, if it doesn't stack up I'd go with an R1S.
Wait... Wasn't start of cybertruck production announced for 23? Look at the Semi accomplished stats and the CT should still worry the legacy makers who are selling rushed vehicles for losses. People keep looking at the brand name but not analyzing the capabilities. Aerodynamics. Lower weight. Better batteries. Stiffer structure. Big bed. Adjustable height. Etc
I am in line with the F150. The Rivian is cool, but for me and my needs the back seat us a little Tight and the truck overall cannot carry what I need it just doesn’t work. I’m hoping the 150 will meet my needs or. Will be forced to go with the R1S.
What about Canoo? I like the Canoo.
My favorite too
Crossing my fingers for Canoo too!
Which 1 can charge on a telsa charger?
Ford lightning. But want a PHEV Ranger Lightning or even Maverick lightning.
Before I even watch the video I would get the F150. I would never buy another GM product especially an electric vehicle after my volt experience with reliability and dealer support. The Rivian is cool but I would worry about support and maintenance. This leaves the F150 which I feel would be the safest choice and it can power my house in an emergency which I think is awesome. Just my two cents.
Hopefully the lightning will eventually get the 6.5 foot bed, if that happens then I am trading in my truck for it.
I too like the Rivian, so I don't like that I'm still waiting for availability.
Regardless of which vehicle we choose, are utilities ready for the demand on the grid?
I went with the Lightning because I needed the larger bed for the things I haul regularly, but the Rivian is a very nice package. Very eager to see where both of these companies go for the next generation and may change my answer at that point.
No interest in the Hummer.
So, "the truck we would buy with our own money if money was not a consideration." Gotcha.
Yes, the Hummer charges 30% or so faster than anything out there. With a battery more than twice as big. That's a net loss on time to charge. I won't mention the efficiency bringing the range added per time charged way below basically anything. Speed to charge should be miles added per time. On that measure, it's kinda pathetic.
Tesla will disrupt this space when the cyber truck hits the market. What the OEMs don’t have is the 4680 batteries which is required for this space of vehicle
Rivian, hands down
R1T : awesome off-roader, but, at the same time great as a daily driver and sporty too when needed . Fits in normal garage. Constant improvement coz of over the air updates . Also Rivian is the only other manufacturer apart from Tesla that’s investing in their own fast charger network ( Rivian adventure network). It’s small now but has potential to grow .Also, as it’s direct sale to customers no dealer markup or haggling hassle . All round really good value .
Over the ir updates are getting to much praise, think about it.. they have done over air updates with iPhones.. guess what happens…they go to shit so you can get a new one lol
@@uik99 I think that’s an apples to Rivian’s comparison . Pun intended.
On a serious note : Rivian added many new cool features via OTA example: camp more , a new soft sand drive mode etc . So far the current R1 owners seem to really dig the OTA and Rivian seems to be listening to them and implementing updates .
I agree except that a "normal garage" has shrunk. I was waffling between R1T and R1S, the deciding factor ended up being that the R1S fits in my garage (barely), while the R1T was too long to fit. I don't think any truck fits in my garage. I got an R1T loaner while my R1S was at the service center overnight and I really liked it. My previous vehicle was a Tundra.
@@RealGaryGR that’s true . I guess “normal” is a relative term for garages , especially when it comes to parking trucks in them . The R1S is an awesome vehicle and claimed to be a better off-roader too as it’s a shorter wheelbase and better angles of departure etc .
@uik99 I have old iPhones that still work fantastic with the apps made for it; over the air updates have only helped.
The problem is the new features and apps, which are made to take advantage of better hardware, just don’t run well. As long as you stick with existing features and don’t expect to get full self driving over the air, the updates offer more reliability for existing things and improve the functionality of those things through minor tweaks; for example, they can easily add extra information to the dashboard over the air based on customer feedback.
I have been saying for 3 years that the reason the Cyber Truck in not in production is that TFL released a video on 8/12/2019. In this video, they (TFL) (Y'ALL) pulled a trailer on the Ike's Gauntlet and the range results were very bad. I have been defending Tesla saying that the Cyber Truck keeps getting delayed because they (Tesla) will not produce it until it will get a much better range.
Now that Tesla have delivered the first Semi and it is getting the reported range, I expect the Cyber Truck to do the same. So when people ask you if your channel is important, you can tell them that Billy in South Carolina Thinks so. Thank you, Gentlemen and keep up the good work.
I left out that the vehicle used for this test was the Tesla Model X.
Let's goooo Cybertruck
If I were going this route - the Ford would be my choice. My simple reason - I can run over to my local dealer and have it looked at. But the ext reason is, Im comfortable with a F150 so I dont have to really figure anything else out. I can just go and get stuff done.
Lightning F150. And would love Toyota to bring an electric truck!
