I can't believe it's possible to brutally murder a mother of two, confess, be convicted, and still be eligible for parole after 13.5 years. That does not seem like justice.

I dated a guy that I thought was attractive, but his friends and my friends disagreed. his friends would always ask him and right in front of me, "how'd you get HER??" and my friends were so rude to him that I stopped bringing him around then... long story short, he turned out to be HIDEOUS on the inside. The insecurities, lies, attempts to control, and put downs so that he could feel great about himself was too much.

It's sad that the perception he ended up with about himself as reflected his whole life by the people around him, made him ugly on the inside. People who are made fun of how they look suffer a constant trauma from a very young age and they never grew into the person they could have been unless they were able to overcome it early. Sometimes attractive people date unattractive people because they aren’t shallow. The problem is, the unattractive person is usually dating the attractive person for their looks. I no longer feel sorry for people who say no one wants them because of how they look. These same people are turning anyone who doesn’t look like a model down. I think attractiveness disparity played a role in the jury’s light sentence. Because he was unattractive, the jury not only believed but, more importantly, gave much weight to his story that Michelle abused him. It would be interesting to know what his sentence would’ve been had they been matched more equally, physically.

I completely agree with you and was thinking the same exact thing. This has to be the case. Since when does a jury believe murderers? It wasnt even a case of if he did it or not. He lied to begin with, covered up and concealed then admitted only after he was cornered. So why wouldn't he lie about what happened that night?

I have first hand experience with attractiveness disparity. I'm a conventionally attractive woman, and I married a man, who for the sake of brevity, I will say looked like an ogre. I was raised with the belief that "beauty is on the inside". I learned firsthand that it is fucking not! He turned out to be even uglier on the inside. I left before he could kill me, but I am convinced he was plotting my murder. His abuse had lasting effects on my mental health. I've gotten help, but I'll never be the same.

I disagree Dr. Grande. There is another option. Beautiful people are often the victims of discrimination by people who perceive themselves as less attractive. I've seen this many times. It's a low self esteem on the one who perceives themselves as less attractive that causes the problem. They hate the beautiful one and want to kill them. I've seen it.
Yeah, I've seen this. Some insecure people want someone better than them but have no idea how to handle that. So they project and emotionally abuse or whatever else. Some women think that by going for a guy that is less conventionally attractive or successful, that guy will have a better personality. When in reality, a guy can still have a crap personality and be ugly on the outside, it's not like it's mutually exclusive.

If a woman decides she doesn't want to be a mother, gets an abortion, and then after the fact, regrets it, are you saying she doesn't have the right to change her mind? Of course not. By that logic, OF COURSE a man can change his mind about that, even if it's years later, and he can prove it by trying to mage amends to the kid. In the case of the woman with the abortion, however, no such amends are possible, because that kid doesn't exist. Get over yourself. I think that the reactions of people in their family and social group surrounding their attractiveness difference is what makes it such a huge deal. If people didn’t make a big deal about it, then I doubt these things would be a big deal. And Mark is not ugly or extremely unattractive. He’s ordinary looking. I was there when this happened. A friend of mine lived on the property right behind where this took place. Around the time that this was going down, we would hang out near on the porch towards the back of the property, which would be facing the area where Kelly would eventually be buried. We remember hearing strange noises, but attributed them to the fact that sometimes kids would find their way into that area to drink, play paintball, or screw around. It wasn’t until a while after the investigation took place that we pieced everything together. It was eerie.

As a former heroin addict in recovery this case makes me physically ill. I spent a decade in a relationship with a violent and abusive man who, incidentally, was the person who introduced me to heroin, knowing that I was three years clean from opiates at the time (not making excuses for myself, I chose to try it - but I had no access to it, at least in the beginning, except through him). I had recently gone back to him, after spending three months in a domestic violence shelter, when he brought it home for the first time, and I've always thought he was using it as a means of controlling me and preventing me from leaving again. Sure enough, I spent another seven years trapped in that hellish relationship. He was a vicious and severely mentally ill individual who had been diagnosed with delusional disorder by a court-appointed psychiatrist; one night, towards the end of the relationship when it had become clear I was planning on leaving for good, he told me he was going to stab me in my sleep, cut up my body into several pieces, bury me all over the state, and then tell the police and everyone else that I had relapsed on heroin and disappeared. I left with a single suitcase two days later, because I've read and watched enough true crime to know that when a person starts telling you they're going to stab you in your sleep, you should probably believe them. I am horrified that my nightmarish close call became reality for this poor woman. To this day, even though I am in long-term recovery...a recovery I fought and clawed for and that I put above literally _everything_ else in my life...I still fear that if anything were to happen to me, the first thing police would say is "Oh, she must have just fallen off the wagon." I agree with Dr. Grande - his pathetic attempts to smear her character after brutally murdering her is, for sure, nothing short of hideous.

I don't see the problem as the attractiveness disparity. I thought his major problem was the socially awkward, strange and weird qualities. These qualities certainly manifested when he abandoned his wife and child because he couldn't handle being a dad, preferring to run back to his parents and having parents who would allow such a thing. He clearly had a lot of long standing problems the least of which would be his appearance. And then there were his violent tendencies and judgement to remain in a relationship with mutual dv.

2. In general there certainly are cases where the murderer has an "excuse" that does not take away her/his guilt but correctly results in lighter punishment. Whether this was such a case was up to the jury to decide after hearing all the evidence, which we did not.
3. You are not fit for jury duty.
Sadly, people tend to feel sorry for murderers for a variety of reasons. One of them is that these sympathetic souls have seldom have watched the murder happen -- seen the blood gush from horrible wounds or heard the desperate and agonized screams. And while they often get to know the murderer well, at least on a surface level, the victim is dead and gone, silenced forever: an abtraction rather than someone who's vibrantly real.

You should analyse long term relationshps where they started young at same level of attractiveness but then by midlife due to different genetics there is a huge disparity.
Hi Dr grande- can you analyze the case of Beau Mann? He was the founder of an app called Sober Grid. He mysteriously disappeared in November 2021 and his remains were recently discovered behind an abandoned building in Santa Monica.
I am an ugly person. One day at about age 25 I took a good look at myself in the mirror and decided that I should not ask any girl to consider a relationship with me. It would be unfair to pass my genes on to another generation. I decided that some people are cut out to work hard and others are good lovers. I thought that trying to trade my ability to gain cash for faux love whould not be a fair trade. A trophy partner who would be happy to spend the money, have a toy boy and treat me as a cash machine is not good economics. It is one thing to have a broken heart but quite another to have a pretty ex partner take all my assets away or even murder me for it.
It is easier to [simply] give up, and invest in an Ai-virtual-girlfriends, like "Cortana".

MY-PHILOSOPHY: "INNER-STRENGTH"
I have found that simply "loving myself" (inner-child) is a powerful tool against most types of social-dependency/vulnerability.
Example:
In my mind, I visualise a picture of my younger self (family albums might help). And I 'remember' what the emotion of genuine love felt like. And then I project those emotions onto the mental visualization of my younger self. I meditate and hold that 'state of mind' for as long as I can.
The result? I feel my conscious energy resignating with positivity and renewed strength. And my anxiety immediately evaporates away.
At the very least, depending on my levels of anxiety, this mediation practice aids to 'evaporate' much of it. You can do the same thing with "trying to 'remember' temperatures, e.g. hot or cold. And then project that memory onto a visualised heat source (all within your minds eye). You will 'feel' the effects immediately."

I think a key element is that Mark did not adjust well to being a father. This could be because Mark wanted a good looking partner, but he didn't want a family life with her. Having a trophy wife he could show off might have made him happy, but being a husband and having two kids to deal with might not have been what he wanted. I would be willing to bet the pregnancy wasn't his idea. But if he is really that socially awkward, he might not have understood that using birth control was in his best interest. If he left it up to her, she might have wanted to have his child in the mistaken belief that it would secure their family life together. That would explain why he left. His friends might envy him for having a good looking wife, but they wouldn't envy him if he's stuck at home being a dad.

The major flaw of the justice system is excessive sentences. A full 27 years is horrendous. 13-15 years is more likely in this case but still a long sentence. You can get 15 years real time in Texas for a shooting, or a 3rd repeat burglary.

@@madalfromuk4729 I'm Australian and when a friend of mine returned from the US after spending a month there for work, she reported an inordinate % of the population is overweight, that mobility scooters are everywhere (some even supplied by supermarkets) and that most 10yo's looked 'chunky'. Apparently we have similar obesity stats to the US, but I personally don't see it in my day to day experience (I take a lot of PT and have rarely sat next to an obese person. Out of a trainful of people only a handful look overweight and by no means obese.

While I understand why you are saying this, it's not just the cost of the meds. The issue is, also the doctor's appointment said it takes to get the meds. I doesn't matter what the health problem is too, they want you to go get a check up, talk to the doctor, and then get a prescription for the medications. Usually they only give you a certain amount of refills, and then after that they want you to go into the actual office. Without insurance, doctors visits are very expensive.

What the hell. she left her first husband because she thought she could do better and instead became an addict and went to jail and then started dating an ugly guy and has another child so now 2 kids from 2 baby daddies. Then the 2nd baby daddy strangled her to death and she got dumped in an oil field. Sounds like she is doing a lot better.

She must have been impulsive and a sensitive person. Sad for her.
My theory is that she was already suffering from mental health issues and as a result, had poor judgement that made her seek out people who were similar in nature to her. In the end, she ended up hanging around someone even more unstable than her, who eventually revealed his true colours and murdered her. The cautionary lesson here is choose who you associate with wisely.
Sometimes, doing better isn't getting someone who looks better, it's getting someone who treats you better. Of course, she failed on all accounts. It kinda sounds like she wanted someone smarter, though. Dude might have been the smarter guy she wanted, but he definitely wasn't better.
Dr. Grande, as a parent of little ones, I am always thinking of ways how to raise my children to become well rounded adults. I often wonder if there is anything people can do as parents, to help prevent their children from becoming either psychopaths or people who attract psychopaths. Would you do a video on this?

A parent can very well give time and love to his/her child, consciously, yet can do very damaging things if they aren't balanced, like smother the child, or put the child on a pedestal, ignore problematic behavior, wanting to be the cool everloving parent in order to be loved back to the detriment of education, etc.

The other day a dude killed his three young sons just to spite his wife. This is by far the most extreme revenge strategy I have ever seen because those were his own biological children. No one dare ask what series of events put him into that frame of mind.

Chances are he lost custody, 95% of fathers become secondary custodians. Their logic for the act is that 'if you take my kids away from me, I will take them from you' which enacts revenge. It highlights an extremely distorted view of other human beings, that the soul of others is irrelevant, it doesn't exist. They are monsters

And often you end up in prison for not being able to work and pay alimony and child support. Dudes spend years going in and out of jail for not being able to pay their divorce debts. In-between prison stays, they are often homeless, living on the streets or in a shelter. Meanwhile, mom's new boyfriend is living in their former house.

I remember when he once told me that she adored him like a God and that their two kids had lighter skin thanks to him and that they are treated better than darker skin kids by his wife’s own family. I was left speechless 😶 . I thought that race- mix couples weren’t racist, but this story proves it wrong. Needless to say that for him to marry a woman of color was obviously giving him tons of narcissistic supply, specially by that woman herself and her family which adored him like a God for the simple fact of being a white Arian German dude. So yes, more often than not when you see big difference in attractiveness is usually linked to some sort of dysfunction in romantic relationships.
