  • In this video we attempt to get the BMW E90 Converted DCT car working. The owner has been struggling with various issues over the last few years running the HTG controller and decided to see if the CanTCU DCT controller would actually get his 1000hp beast working again!
    The car runs a Haltech and this was our first CanTCU install, so was a massive learning curve, please come along for the journey.

    I'm running a CANTCU on a 2nd gen 8HP50 behind an M50B28 turbo in an e30 and I'm very happy with it. Got paddle shifters and an F82 DCT shifter, all working together with DBW controlled by ECUmasters Black.

      At 480whp it was theoretically making ~ 700NM at the crank. The 8HP50 may become a bit challenged past that point and limiting the TQ in the midrange will probs be necessary. Serious TQ reduction on shift will also be needed. The 8HP50 is just so easy and cheap to get so it was a no brainer. I do have an 8HP70 under the bench, but the OEM TCU was ripped out for an HTG build. Hard to find 70s now though.
      BTW, I don't think I'd bother with the 8HP45.

  • @drtone
    @drtone 10 месяцев назад +1

    Is this your 1st use of CanTCU. Why not TurboLamik TCU? Is that ZF8hp only? You are definitely the only shop that appears transparent and trustworthy , and getting favorable results, IMHO for these swaps. From my understanding, the ZF 8HP appears superior for street and track in all characteristics and use scenarios. What do you think, DCT seem obsolete by now, what can it do better than ZF8hp, seems like nothing? What are, if any vehicles, have you done that are completely dialed in and with what eng/trans/TCU ? I agree, I have not seen other channnel/project videos showing working cars with around town drivability.
    Thanks. I'm in SoCal, if I was local to you, I would have you swap ZF8hp in my Silvia(SR20det), Rx7 FD 13b, R33 GTS-t RB25det and HJ61 12H-t Land Cruiser(has A440 automatic). Can TurboLamik TCU integrate with these cars OEM TCU's ? Also Pajero EVO would be transformative. Best Regards!

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, first CanTCU. We havent had any issues with the Lamik, however they are only 8hp. You are spot on the 8hp is much more forgiving for street use. I also think the extra ratios help the 8hp in the speed department. BUt there is not hiding a lot of people want the DCT. And a lot of people have spent a lot of money on DCT conversions that cant use them. Of the cars you mentioned none are supported with OEM lamik intergration.

      So pure race application with no torque reduction (anything using a clutch pedal) the 8hp45 we broke one at 500whp in about 2 mins. The 70s seem much much stronger. Now you add some torque reduction to the mix and the 8hp45 will hold a lot more. But you loose a lot of the agression with torque reduction on.@@Twittenberg

      I dont think its a torque management issue....... But many other issues with the product/software. I've spoken to many with damaged DCTs whos engines dont make enough power to hurth the DCT clutches. Then all the 8hp70 failures as well, which will take an absolute spanking with out torque management.

      You can brake boost. There are a few conditions that have to be met for it to open the clutches. If you are accelerating and braking it will keep the clutches engaged. For quite some time I think of 8hp swaping my manual E90 LCI 325i xDrive using the cantcu
    I see quite some informations for the 8hp45 on the N54 - eg. your video series on the 135i, but the N53 are rather rare
    I can not remember where I read it, but the main gist of it was
    that with a 1st gen h8hp45 from an N55 powered F30 or F10 the mechanical side of the install should be quite the bolt on experience.
    Saying: replace the DMF for the Auto Flywheel with flexplate, use the 8hp45 with its converter, replace the F-Series TC with the E90 transfercase, drifeshafts can be reused
    add a shifter the cantcu likes (eg the F-Series 8hp Shifter or the E9x DCT Shifter from x35 cars)
    sort out the wireing and add the cantcu, recode the car from MT to AT and you are good to go
    can you confirm or revoke those statements - since you have so much experience with those gearboxes
    hope your troubles are sorted out soon and you can leave that stuff in the past

    Would the cantcu have any benefit installed into a factory dct car?

      No, not at all. Unless you were e series, you could change to a f series transmission.

      I would not recomend DCT for drag application at all. 8hp for drag. In fact 8HP for everything..... faster, stronger, smoother...... 8hp every day

    Does the cantcu dct can do clutch kicks ?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  10 месяцев назад

      It can with f series dct, but its not recomended. The factory TCU doenst have the tuneability to react to a clutch pedal input like the turbo lamik. Howveer that may change.
