With drive by wire, some downshift blips it would be epic. Hoping to get it out at rolls soon.
They’re streetable with an auto 4 speed or even factory 5/6spd.
I mean you are not wrong, but a 1000hp will break a 5 speed, even a 6 speed will be on borrowed time. If you build a 4 speed to hold 1000hp they aren't very nice to drive.@@Star.Chaser

on boost half throttle in this car is about 800hp, so a basic 90deg turnis a problem. However to help you understand, the 8speed and turbo lamik whill be no different to a manual in a 50% throttle applciation. Converter will be locked. @@Whatguywhat
I had this car built, final setup was a Samsonas sequential before the current owner got it. It looks like the gearbox he’s chosen is absolutely awesome, can’t wait to see it doing what it does best.
Props to Tama and the boys that have done the conversion.
If this box holds up to the power, my next one will have the same setup.

@@ZeroTo60Tube I thought I’d DBW but didn’t have a problem with the boxes I had in it. Went from a PPG h pattern, to an OS88, then the samsonas when the bigger turbo went on. The OS88 was my favourite, but this 8 speed seems like the best solution if it holds the power.

I’m very interested to see how this plays out! I went DBW and PPG Billet sequential for my 2.8L R33, but as I get older, the auto gearboxes appeal to me more and more. I only plan to on making ~850whp so I think an 8speed would survive longer in my car than it would in this monster! Keen to see how long it lasts and how well it does!
@@BrianCrofoot the new owner told me the current in car videos are on low boost, around 900hp at a guess (couldn’t get the gates to go any lower than 26psi), and it still looks stupid fast. If they handle the power it’ll be a game changer.
Looks like it drives beautufully compared to a sequential! Sold my OS88 to go 8HP. This just confirms it was the right choice

I just got my 8hp70 from an n63 that i'm going to put in my Dodge charger 69 with a 526cui gen 2 Hemi in it. I think I'll be the first with that particular conversion too 😄

my man!!!!! i cant wait to get my r33 swapped and moving again! mines making just about the same 1070whp , is that the full hpr trans build with the clutches and all the goodies? ill be the first in the usa, they should be sending my full kit very soon, i think they were waiting for feedback from you! lol. i just got the e92 drag car finished and fully dialed on lamik with the trans brake and 5k rpm stall. the gtr is going to be epic. ill be ordering my clutch kit for the foot pedal stuff this week, i got some cool videos to send ya of the e92 and all the stuff you helped us with!

Unreal. Would drive way better than a sequential and probably unsettle the car less on the shifts and keep the car on boost better which works way better with small motor big turbo setups. For roll racing and daily driving it would be unreal.
You hit the nail on the head there. On full song, you hardly feel the shifts. They are so fast and as the RPM drop isnt much, there isnt a much of a change in torque going through the trans, so you dont get the slow down feeling of the new gear you get in a manual/sequential.
Spot on, I noticed that in the small hit at around 5500rpm and going through the gears. Right on the turbo threshold and only dropping 500rpm or so each shift. I'm seriously impressed hey.

Absolutely brilliant, really pleased to see some more zero to 60 content on these. From pioneering n54 content when we were all reflecting on our financial mistakes to making us want to go back to JDM.

This was done a while ago in the uk HTG TUNING on a r33 i think 🤔 still a nice build
The r33 in the uk was a rear wheel drive. Also HTG so it’s probably not working anymore.
Amazing! Getting the monster to be able to drive on the street! 8HP is extending life of classic cars… 1100 hp + 8 speed is mental! The built on your channel are absolutely inspiring! I’m actually building an E36 with N52B30 + 8hp45 and really looking forward to driving it 🏁🏁

How does this conversation compare cost wise in comparison to sequential?
Slightly cheaper than a sequential, if using a transmission specc'd like this one. Would be dearer than sequential if you are pushing more power.
Put 1100hp through it and rev it to 9500rpm. I wanna see if it holds lol

I was able to get an 8hp75 from a diesel BMW X6 (N57). Part no. GA8HP75Z. Probably would suit this car better than the 8hp70x.
That was brillant veiwing, couple of bright guys..hope it can handle the abuse of 1100hp.

This has been fine so far. We have a few customers revving them to 9000rpm now. How long they last is another story. We dont know that yet.
Great kit for the GTR guys and a awesome installation. It will be interesting to see how the 8HP70 handles that power with 4 wheel traction. For street diving, the 8 spd is certainly the way to go. The gear changes in drive are similar to my 8HP75 with 8th gear coming just before 80 kph.

I am no Turbo Lamik Tuner Andrew. That is your expertise. But changing P1 to Map 2 has made driving much more pleasureable. With the GTR, I would try a TC launch before a transbrake launch to see how the drive train handles the power. Going on my experience, I reckon a transbrake launch would break something with 1,100hp on tap. How does the strength of the GTR diffs and axles compare with the BMW items? What is the diff ratio for the GTR? @@ZeroTo60Tube
@kencooper8636 the drive train should be ok however time will tell. The sequential that was in it was really savage, however the transbrake would be a good test for both the trans and diffs/axles. its runnung 4.11 diffs.
Well it's relatively cheap to have the 8hp70 rebuilt to handle 1200hp+(i have an awd 8hp50 in my 335i xdrive) to build it to 1000hp is $3499 and 5k or so for 1400 I think I'm the 8hp50...the 8hp70's handle more ho for the same $ amount t(like 1200 vs 1000). Personally I love mine to the point I'm glad I got it OVER the 6spd. I love my t56 but even without an xhp tune my auto is awesome and stupid fast shifts. I'm not 100%(and I'm sure you can tune with an aftermarket tcu) but it seems like the converter locks after takeoff and basically acts like an automated stick mostly. Engine e braking, etc...just like my t56. That seems like a ni Brainerd. Personally I want to make a v8 powered awd 8hp75 fully irs'd tacoma for street use, paddle shifters and all..road legal Baja truck that's a bit lowered

Be interesting to see if it can hold the power. I've heard of tuned trackhawks blowing 8hp90s but they aren't the beamer zfs so who knows.
Yeah it will be good to see how this goes. At over 1000whp it really is at the higher end of the stock box limits, especially revving so high. Do you what fails on the trackhawks? Are they snapping shafts or slipping clutches?
Pure Drivetrain Solutions in New York have an upgrade package for the 8HP for 15k USD their Stg 3 is rated at 1600hp/1900Nm
A few M3s and M4s running 8s with this gearbox stateside on a dragy with shitty bumpy roads wearing 19s and Toyos, ///M have figured a way to launch these things so hard with LC activated (dont know if that trickery could be replicated on a GTR?), most of the 8s cars launch fron 2nd.
ZF also make the PDKs so they know how to make tough oem box
Cant wait to see these things sorted and proliferate through the Aussie GTR community, congrats to the new owner switching from a Samsonas is really saying something
It’s the 8hp51 from pure running 7’s that we find very impressive. Trying gauge interest on a 8hp70 trans built for 2000hp to work out if we should develop one.

Does it handle 9000 rpm well?
I was torn between ZF8hp and samsonas H pattern dogbox for an S85 swapped E90 I was planning to undertake a build.
I don't want SMG.
But I really want to keep the high revving nature of the S85. Atleast till 8500 rpm.
The trans is fine at 9000rpm.
However I will say on a s85, the 8hp will be too good. You’ll loose the aggression/harshness.
I’m just about to do a dct behind a s85. Easier swap and the characteristics of the dct will be nice behind the s85.

Yes, we havent done it ourself, but a local guy has done one that was tuned here (engine ecu was tuned here after the 8hp). Nice behind the barra, instantly makes it feel like its got more power.

This was the first adapter made. And it come from europe. The european supplier of the adapter kit and the european supplier of the controler both said this is the first 8hp GTR in the world...... We have done more 8hp swaps than anyone else in the world. Im sure you can show some videos of the ones from 3 years ago? Or are you talking sheet?
Any plans to make a video how to fine tune the turbolamik? Or adjust features?
Yes, however we are still getting our head around shift tuning. 90% of the ones we have done don’t need any adjustment. In fact it’s mainly the hp75 that don’t feel great on the base maps. Right now we need to work out a few more of the parameters to be sure any advice given is correct.

Mercedes 722.6 is very similar to the 8hp
Im in the process using HP tuners to edit the 8 speed in my VW amarok. made some good improvements by changing the shift points to suit the engine and its made it more comfortable at lower speeds but shaved over 1 second off the 0-100km/h but short shifting 1-2 at 3500 and 2-3 at 3800 and dropping max rpm to 4300rpm in the higher gears to prevent it hitting its 4500 limiter.
i find it frustrating how VW never completely tuned this gearbox for the engine because all the shaft speeds above 50% load are set at 6000rpm in a diesel.
I really like the way that GTR is shifting and its going to be a good car to live with. the only thing Id be changing is the off throttle fuel cut to idle so the car would have stronger de-acceleration and nicer exhaust note until the torque converter unlocks and rpm drops to idle
Good kit, the biggest down side would be cost comparison vs other autos/ sequentials. Looks very smooth tho. Then there’s the racing side of things

8hp70, zero torque reduction. Which isnt smart. But we are still trying to find the breaking point on these things. The owner is down to have some fun and push this one. No issues with the trans yet. He did put some 888rs on just after this which helped it hook a lot better than what you see in this video. Mind you those better tyres just put more load on the trans.

Its been running 1100whp through the 8speed since december..... however small issue with brake vacuum..... its coming back soon for electric vac pump and we will do an update video.

I dont know where you got that info. We have a few spinning well past 9000.
What adapter kit should I use? Domiworks or PMC motorsports
We have had a few issues with both. But we have used probabaly 200 domiworks kits and 2 pmc.

I believe you mean cavitate. Howver it doesnt appear to be an issue in the ones we have revving to 9000rpm.

This one has been opened up inspected and a few very small parts changed. But still used original clutches.

We have ran one that hard, but I believe there are guys in the states running the 8hp at those levels. Same trans as the hellcat/demons. When you build one those internals go straight in to this case.
If running a decent engine ecu, the cat3 build would work behind a 2000hp motor. But you need to be able to run fast torque management during shifts. However the real fun is when torque management is off, like this setup.
Im putting one in mine when the clucth goes. Kinda also waiting to see how maxecu works out. Im sure you will need some torque management on shifts
How do the transmissions deal with the rpm? 9k+ do they hold up?
It's a bit of an unknown, this will be the second one we know off revving to 9000rpm.
hi guys I have a BMW e38 735il that I'm putting a LS7 in. and I'm looking for the right transmission to put in it. something reliable and quick shifting. after some research I think I want to go with a zf 8hp. I'm not sure what will suit my application best out of all the 8hp range. what will handle the power? best (570hp 730nm) and what will fit the car best?

Any of the 70 or 75s will work, however you need to find something that has an adapter already made. So first thing, find an adapter, then find a trans to suit that adapter.

So lads , what torque converter is it running , as in other uploads , you have said , we can't run the standard n57 Diesel torque converter with a big turbo car ! So please explain this . I've started my Barra n57 8hp70 swap , my trans should arrive today , so I need to know about the converter .

updates on this car ? does the converter really survive the 9000upm ? this worries me the most
So far yes, the high RPMS are no problem. The issue is the car idling high and not making power till 5000rpm. Would be nicer with a more open converter.

How does the zf8hp hold up in the long run?
Realistically all the swap setups are only 1-2 years old. But OEM applications these take a beating and seem ok around 400-500,000 ks
I have a 2001 Lexus GS300 and looking into putting this transmission in the car. I havent seen anyone to this with a GS300 with 2jzgte.🤔

Very interesting, amazing work. When using the HPR shifter and paddles, how do you select reverse, neutral and park?
So you have up and downshift. When you start the car, it always starts in park. You shift up to go to drive. Double downshift for reverse. To go from reverse or drive, you go through neatrual. You need an additional button to select park while the engine is running. When engine is off, it automatically turns the park lock on.
