  • This video reviews our first electronics choice for the SCX10ii. We show wheelspeed, low speed control, and wiring for the SHV500 12 volt brushless servo. Too keep the servo happy with 4s lipo input, it was undercharged to 16v. Blazing fast wheelspeed and servo speed!
    Parts list:
    SCX10ii kit, stock gearing and tires
    SHV500 Brushless 12 volt servo
    CrawlMaster Pro 13t 540 motor, Puller 500 13tXX armature
    Castle Creations Mamba Monster X
    Nano tech 4s 5000mah (charged to 16v)
    Axial RX from an RTR
    Flysky radio
    No throttle curves, no fancy programming, just testing the "worst case" setup for startup smoothness and over the top wheelspeed.

    Thanks. Just got one of these, and had a CrawlMaster Pro 13T on hand for a SSD chassis built. I think it's gonna work out great. My old Vaterra's are getting tired. :)
    Found a very slightly used Spektrum SR310 to add it to my TX. Just complicated enough to make it fun.

    The torqued numbers on the servo are insane!

    Great stuff man. Cant wait till I make a purchase for one of those servos. Waiting on the scx10 2 to get into stock. Cant wait to get the build going.

    Thanks for the info. U been putting out some great info. Vids lately, besides that crazy house build. Lol, I have not tried your products yet, but this next build will be your equipment, can't wait, that servo looks crazy

    Lovely John, adding a resistence inside the servo circuit can make a sense to run also at 4s directly without any pain... what do you think?

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  8 лет назад

      Not a good idea, the power level would put a lot of waste heat into the voltage divider.

    • @FrancescoSequenziaSeychelles
      @FrancescoSequenziaSeychelles 8 лет назад +1

      Ok, I understand, but is a shame that not work directly on 4s, can you imagine your market over the 1/8 offroad buggy? could be more possibilties for you to expand over that.
      by the way tks for the answer

      Just one thing more John, the motor rotation you intend on the shop options is cosiderated by viewing the motor at the brushes side or at the pinion?

      @johnrobholmes 8 лет назад

      We might be working on that feature for the next batch :D I can neither conform nor deny...

    • @johnrobholmes

      pinion side

    I would love to see a video where you compare the different top speeds and crawling abilities of each of your different motors that you recommend for the SCX10-II. I'm in the market. ;-)

      It is a good idea for a future video. We just need to select one rig and spend all day recording speeds.

    is a JST pigtail included with the SHV500? Great ideal for not running a Bec.

  • @RocketDogRc

    this makes a lot of sence, then why not plug directly into the balance plug

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  8 лет назад

      An adapter to power the servo through the outer pins of a balance plug would work. But then you have two plugs to plug and unplug every time, and balance plugs aren't designed for any plug/unplug cycles. 30 to 50 cycles is about all they take before the tension falls and the plating gets worn off. One main plug with a pigtail to power the servo is our recommendation because of these reasons.

    You could just add a small 3s lipo with a jst connector right? kinda like a nitro truck. So I don't have to solder?

    why a 12 volt steering servo?
    what is the advantage of a 12 volt servo over a 6 volt servo?

    • @dogcrick
      @dogcrick 8 лет назад

      The advantage is more direct power and you don't need to buy a bec so the install will be cleaner.

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  8 лет назад +3

      The lack of BEC is pretty dang nice, it is the main reason we developed a 12v servo. Additionally, it allows for higher transit speeds without losing a drop of torque. 520 ounce/ inch at 0.08 transit, running cool as a cucumber!

    What all would you recommend for the scx10.2 electronics wise to have it have a lot of torque and low slow speed but have the extra wheel speed not quite as much as yours though and also the best crawl servo and ESC from your brand

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  7 лет назад

      For brushed, a 27t motor and BRXL is always nice. Brushless, a Puller Pro 540 2700kv. The SHV500 servo is what we run on all the shop rigs now, direct 12v power so no BEC is needed.

    did you flash your own firmware in the esc, or is it stock?
