  • Hi Friends!
Not gonna lie, my trip is rather strange! Being out in the world while Covid-19 is unraveling everything is pretty weird! Portland was pretty shut down, but my meetup went on as planned, so here's some small tastes of what that was like. I did have a wonderful time meeting everyone that came out!
    I hope you enjoy!

Vermont Flannel Company. I will almost be sad to see winter go and surrender my pajama pants and hoodie scarf.
I didn't know you are located in San Jose. I lived there from 1957 - 1971 - graduated from Abraham Lincoln High. My dad was Associate Dean of the School of Business at San Jose State. My mother was a tenured teacher in Santa Clara, and very involved with community theater, so costumes are in my blood.
I have no desire to go back. The strawberry fields, apricot orchards, and all other remnants of the rich agricultural past have been paved over.
Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy your adventures.

Sounds great but half my sewing books are in Chinese/Japanese. Could I choose an option where the App sounds off a "raspberry" noise whenever I scan a duplicate. Okay, I love, love books but I'm seriously lazy at being organized. Currently bought 7 books into my second week... Malaysia.

Jacinta Wratten those apps are so very wonderful. There is nothing worse than standing there trying to remember if you remember the title because you have three copies or it’s the one I have been looking for. Too many series and reference books to keep track of any other way. Someone should make an app for patterns, fabric and yarns!

Persis Wynter I do have a few databases but not the knowledge to get them to my phone. The app does mostly what I want for books. Come to think of it I actually could add patterns to it author would equal company name pattern number would be title with a description as numbers change. I will have to think on this and add it to my spare time list

I loved this video. You seemed so happy through out the whole thing. How brave of you to meet up w/30 people that you didn't know and know what to say for 4 hours! I didn't realize Pendelton was around there. That must have been very interesting. Of course the bed chats had to be there. They are just fun. I was surprised that you were surprised the streets and stores/malls were almost deserted. It's been like that here in Chicago for several days. Our side street, (we live on a corner) is usually a two lane highway in the morning and afternoon rush hours. Yesterday I counted 5 cars from 5 to 6 PM. Parking is usually a problem downtown...not now! The trains are really empty too. Hope the rest of your trip is just as happy for you!

I went to school in Pendleton. Pendleton is 210 miles from Portland. The mill in Pendleton makes a lot of wool fabrics, but their finished products are only blankets. I believe the mill in Washougal makes finished garments, but I haven't been to that mill, so I'm not sure.

Yep, Washougal is the clothing production! You should go!

@@Elemiriel I have been to Washougal as a child to visit extended family, but we didn't go to the mill there. I now live in Ontario, on the Oregon-Idaho border, 376 miles from Portland, so a bit far to go for a meet-up. Would have been fun, though. In Ontario, I own a quilt and needlework shop and foster adoptable cats.

Quilted Kitten Fosters Where in Ontario are you? I’m in southern Ontario but get to a lot of the province to visit friends and family. If I’m traveling alone I stop along the way to break up the driving usually at thrift stores but sometimes fabric stores. Anyway if you are close to any of my usual travels I would add a stop

Your meetup looks so cool. Really hoping you at some point can come to london so I can meet you and pick your brain about all things sewing and RUclipsing as I love your vlog style which is much like how I plan to do mine. Honest, open, laid back with no tricks. Basically because all I know how to do is ram filmed clips together 🤣🤣🤣. Hopefully the corna virus will have done one by then. Ps on a personal note. I feel the reason why so many people want to meet you ( me included) is because your warm inviting personality and your talent and passion for historical costume. I notice you are overwhelmed by the turnout but just know you totally deserve it. A pebble in a river can cause a ripple far beyond its size and range and I feel that applies to you. I love your positivity and happy demeanor and its infectious. Which is my kind of infection 🤣.

I agree it is very creepy here. I ran to Michaels yesterday to grab settings so I can stay home and work on projects all weekend, and I was the only one in the whole store. Even mid day Michael's is never that empty. It definitely creeped me out. And there was a store employee behind me spraying things as I left. Now that the governor has banned gatherings of more than 250 people and closed some schools, I expect it to get worse.

If you’re looking for an easy way to catalogue your costume books (or games, dvds, anything media like), I use Libib, which allows you to scan the barcode of your book and it tries to find all the details. I use it on my phone so when I’m out book shopping I can check if I’ve already got the ones I’m looking at! 👍

I'm a homebody anyway, so I'm always looking for excuses to not have to leave my house. LOL. But it's so weird how everyone is being hyper-cautious, when they don't seem to care during flu season. I definitely don't remember anything close to this during H1N1, and that actually infected millions and killed a few thousand. I was in college at the time and everything was business as usual. It was pretty hilarious because I was taking ASL at the time and my teacher explained to us the symptoms of H1N1 in sign...I now know all the nasty, gross signs! --- Tying together the pandemic stuff with the textile mill stuff, a family story: My great-grandmother, Theresa, lost her husband (Oscar) and their 5-month-old daughter (Jesse) to the Spanish Flu outbreak in the late 1910's. After being widowed, she went to work at the Champlain Silk Mill. That's where she met my great-grandfather, Reeves, a veteran of WW1. They got married and had 3 kids, the youngest being my maternal grandfather.

However, if you ever want another venue close to Portland ( Battle Ground. WA) l have a British tea room and a large space that you can have free of charge to meet your group and followers. We could even hold a costuming tea as l hold many events throughout the year that involves period dressing and l know that my sewing ladies would welcome you with open arms for help and advice.. If anyone is interested in this future fun please DM/email me so you can be included. I can’t wait to see how the Seattle trip goes. Yay Adventure! Yay to new friends. Big Hugz!

The French government announced that they are closing down all schools and universities starting on Monday (though apparently researchers are still allowed on campus because I still have to work). I went food shopping today and the supermarkets were a zoo. There was a big run on flour, eggs, sugar, shelf stable cream, toilet paper and pasta. Luckily the south of France is very polite, so I didn't have to fight anyone for the last liter of fresh milk.

Right foot: 2 hairline fractures with torn ligaments & puffy bruising.
After 3 months, drive an automatic by raising & lowering your foot between the gas & brake pedals. No pivoting. Wear a canvas/Velcro foot brace over an Ace bandage.
Otherwise, binge watched Netflix and handsewed felt catnip toys because of the swelling. Good luck to you 😘💕

I use a great app for keeping track of all my books it's called Libib . And it will scan the barcodes on the books and add them into your library for you.
Its great for when you are out and about and wanting to get a new book or pattern or music album.
You can just check through your list to see if you already own it.
I will now continue watching the rest of your trip so far.
    Hope you are enjoying yourself.

@@Costuming_Drama LOL in Oregon the Coast Hwy is Hwy 101, and Interstate 5 is known as " I five" ... We're different, I know :P But yes Oregon has 2 mountain ranges. When heading North, the lefthand one is the coast range and the right hand is the Cascade range, which is the one that continues down into Mexico (though the name changes a few times)

Your monday night reminds me of a very capricorn time in my life: High school accounting classes. My classmates actually fought over who got to sit beside me because they knew I only got A's on my accounting tests. I wouldn't actively help them cheat, but I did, in chaotic neutral fashion(not super sure on that but I have been assured i am a chaotic neutral person), make sure I sat to the side a little so they could see my screen.
Also, if you ever want some custom 3 inch buttons, I have the button maker for that.

Yes!! Victorians had sewing machines lol. I have a lot of them. I love the decals and collect them. I have some VERY rare ones. Right now i am trying to get a 1887 era buttonhole attachment to sew a button hole. I research Singer mostly and have published the information on early electric Singer sewing machines from 1886 up with ISMACS. I have 3 Victorian era industrial machines by Singer, the UFA, IM and 24-7. Here is a link to my machines in Flickr www.flickr.com/photos/132113927@N03/ Machines, attachments and manuals back to the Singer letter A machine 1859-65.
