Commenting on your vids for the first time - great choice, and an amazing band - sadly no longer a working unit. Steven Wilson has been doing his own thing for quite a few albums now, but I have to say, some of his stuff is even better than Porcupine Tree, and the assembled cast of musicians he uses are truly stellar. So, stick with Porcupine Tree for a bit, explore the Opeth connection (you already listened to Deliverance which Steven Wilson produced), maybe dip your toe into recent Pineapple Thief to see where Gavin Harrison (drummer - arguably in the top 3 drummers in the world) moved onto.... but absolutely DO make sure you visit Steven Wilson's solo work - The Raven That Refused To Sing, Luminal, Home Invasion Regret 9, Refuge, Hand Cannot Erase.... the list is too great. Just enjoy the trip :)
Jim! What’s up man I’m a fan of your channel! This is crazy man it’s awesome to hear from a channel I follow I really appreciate all the information and feedback man. Definitely going to dive into more of Stevens work for sure. And David Harrison is absolutely phenomenal. The drum tracks he laid down on this masterpiece is mind blowing can’t believe this is the 1st I’ve heard of him. Thanks again man all the best!
@@dmusiclife5727 no worries man, it’s good to share, eh? You’re doing better than me.... my upload rate is pitiful! Good to connect, keep doing what you’re doing 👍🏼

LLIIIIVVVEEE VVVEEERRRRSSSIIIOOOONNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want to experience their live performance watch them play this song live in Tilburg, Holland. You will be amazed. Also I highly recommend Tesseract "Hexes" live and Porcupine Tree "Arriving somewhere but not here"............. and don't forget "No Quarter" Tool )))
This is one of the few bands i prefer to listen to live, the songs are great but they're better when they're less produced and more "raw" if that makes sense, the live dvds are incredible.
I just saw them do the full version of this live a week ago and 17 minutes felt like three. Everyone was on their feet totally mesmerized, highlight of the night!
You couldn't have any better timing. Was just driving for 5 hours and listened the whole album while driving and every time it blows my mind.. Thanks for the reaction!!! Cheers from Finland!
Fun fact: That guitar solo a little past 4 minutes in is by Alex Lifeson of Rush. Wilson basically turns everything he touches to gold. He's got a new album coming out in a couple months and I'm a fan of the songs he's released so far ("Personal Shopper," "Eminent Sleaze," and "King Ghost"). Has a sort of Depeche Mode style industrial pop sound to it. His _Hand Cannot Erase_ and _Raven that Refused to Sing_ albums are also spectacular. Gavin Harrison, the drummer, has toured with King Crimson and is a member of the Pineapple Thief, another great outfit worth checking out.
I suggest some classics from Pocrupine: The sound of Muzak Fear of a blank planet Hatesong Arriving somewhere but not here TRAINS, oh my god trains is so good Even Less (extended 14 min cut)
This is a band I definitely need to get more into. I haven't heard alot at this point, but the soundscapes they create are really impressive. It's something you can really just put on and get lost in.
My recommendations are the albums and concerts since Gavin Harrison(drums) joined in 2002- In Absentia, Deadwing, Fear Of A Blank Planet(and its Nil Recurring outtake EP), and The Incident. The Concerts DVD's are Arriving Somewhere(Chicago), Anesthetize(Tillburg) and Octane Twisted. They put it out mostly as a live album from Radio City Music Hall, but there are videos from The Incident live. If you do that, watch in succession the four concept songs in a row-of Zero Degree Of Liberty, Octane Twisted, The Seance, and Circle of Manias
@@PHLCoffeeSnob No worries! I just know it'll take awhile to get through so I'll have to find a good starting place. And I know what it's like to be super passionate about a band, too! People get me started on something like Band-Maid or Tool and I'd write them just as much.

Love this song more every time I hear it, just magnificent! Full on EXPERIENCE for the soul. And the live version is awesome, sounds as good as studio.
I’ve never clocked on a video faster in my life!!! Thank you and finally. WELCOME to the Porcupine Tree land. You started with their Opus Dei - although, as a quick FYI - any PT reaction should be done LIVE, they’re absolutely incredible musicians. You should react to this same song from Tilburg. Your socks will be blown off completely. Gavin Harrison and Steven Wilson are - IMO- the most prolific songwriters in prog. So underrated. Please check “Fear of a blanket planet” from Tilburg live. You will love it. And I love that you love this already. Rock on folks.
First time I saw Porcupine Tree was 2002 in Philly. They opened for Yes. I had never heard of them, didn't even know there was an opening act. They were already performing when I arrived. I had 5th row, center stage seats. I was mesmerized and I was blown away. I didn't even want Yes to come out. I could've listened to PT all night. Next day I started my PT collection. This band was started by Steven Wilson writing and performing all the music. It was version of Spinal Tap. When he was signed and told he had to start touring, he had to put a band together. Unfortunately, he broke the band up about 2010 and went solo. He's an amazing song writer, musician, and producer. Quite a lot to check out in Porcupine Tree, his solo work (the band is also amazing), and his side projects No-Man and Blackfield.
Finally! Can't wait till you look at all their greatest songs. Gavin Harisson will blow your mind. Try to watch the live version of anethezize on yt, it's even better than the studio version
That guitar solo is played by Rush's Alex Lifeson! The drumming on this track is some of the most intricate and cool drumming I've ever heard. The drummer, Gaving Harrisson, is currently playing with Pineapple Tree, where he delivers some stunning work. One of the best drummers out there
Great reaction as always guys. These musical journeys is awesome to be a part of! Cheers! *Heavy Opeth* _Masters apprentices_ - *Semi Heavy Opeth* _A Fair Judgement_ - *Calmer Opeth* _Windowpane_ *or* _Face of Melinda_

You should also try Steven Wilson on solo too, Routine, The raven that refuses to sing... anything he touch turns gold!!! Thrills and joy promised ;-) I was lucky enough to see them live at least 5 times before they break up, the first time at The Bataclan in 1998 (the venue of the terrorist attack back in 2015), Steven Wilson and his group are fantastic musicians.

Song is a masterpiece. I was fortunate to follow PT from fairly early on so got to see them numerous times over the years. I remember standing in the crowd mesmerised by this live thinking this is as good as it gets.
OK, y'all, I'm a pretty big Porcupine Tree fan. I got into them several years back and their albums 'In Absentia' and 'Deadwing' were commonly played in my car during high school. So, let me give you a quick list of recommends from the band's entire discography, and I'll try to explain what/why each song is good. Porcupine Tree has albums going back into the 90s and they're still active today, and there are a whole lot of songs to sort through. Early on they had more of an experimental thing going on, especially themed around altered perception. From their 1991 album, 'On the Sunday of Life,' you'll wanna hear "Radioactive Toy" and "Nine Cats" at the very least. "And the Swallows Dance Above the Sun" gets a good amount of play too. Next there was a double album. 93's 'Up the Downstair' and 94's 'Staircase Infinities' is almost like one long, but controlled, acid trip presented in musical form. You really need to experience about the first 14 minutes of 'Up the Downstair' if you wanna get a taste of what's in these two albums. The next several albums I haven't listened to myself enough to feel like any kind of authority, but there are seven albums after 'The Sky Moves Sideways,' which itself is not bad but again is a longer format work. You might give "The Sky Moves Sideways Phase 1" a listen at some point, it's very dreamy. Then, in 2002, they did 'In Absentia,' and came into much more relatively mainstream success with this shift in tone. I'd recommend both "Blackest Eyes" and "Trains" off this album for a good sense of how it's shifted. "The Sound of Muzak" is probably my favorite track off this album. 05 was 'Deadwing,' another more mainstream-oriented work. However, the 12-minute "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" has some nice elements from their more experimental past, and is also a banger. "Open Car" is one y'all might like from then, too. "Lazarus" is very popular and beautiful but also very straightforward compared to most of the rest, featuring a strong piano melody with acoustic guitars. 'Fear of a Blank Planet' came out in '07 and that's where "Anesthetize" came from. You got the best from that album. 2009 they did 'The Incident,' which is more of a longer form work broken into smaller pieces, a nice kind of meeting of old and new styles. The feature song for me on this album is "Time Flies," right smack in the middle of the whole work. Hope that helped! Sorry if it was too much text, but I figure better to do more than not enough!
Lets not blow over stupid dream and lightbulb sun another great part of their catalog and the last two albums with their amazing original drummer Chris Maitland
There is something very satisfying seeing people be blown away by this song, just like i was all them years ago. I've listened to this thousands of times and love just as much now as I did the first time. WHAT A F**KING SONG!!
Oh man, I so wish you'd done the live version of this! It's absolutely, insanely great! It's on RUclips. Just search for Live and then look for the Tilburg, Holland version. It's amazing.
Impressed! Never heard this band before, and probably never would have listened due to the silly-ish name. Even hesitated to watch this upload of yours! But this is goooood
1. The guitar solo is played by Alex Lifeson of Rush. 2. The name 'Porcupine Tree' is literally a joke. Steven Wilson (vocals, lead guitar) started this as a psychedelic solo project in the 80's and the name is poking fun at the outlandish titles used for bands and songs in early prog. 3. Wilson befriended Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth singer) awhile back and they seemed to have had a positive influence on each other's music. Steven Wilson having produced more than one Opeth album. Opeth influenced Porcupine Tree to become a bit heavier while Opeth may have become more chill in their recent albums due to Porcupine Tree's influence. (It could just be that Mikael got tired of mostly growling) This song shows me the beauty of synergy. Two minds, two different styles rubbing off on each other to create something epic. 4. To restate what others are saying, their live performance of this in Tilburg is worth experiencing. They take it to 11. 5. "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here"
You could stay on Porcupine Tree for years and never get sick of them. It's one of those bands for which is nearly impossible to find a non-memorable song
Awesome band, Awesome song. I wish U reacted to the Live version of that song. Cuz the drummer is soooo Awesome in that one. More fills. Hopefully U can react to that version of that. & you'll see what I mean. U 2 are awesome. Keep up the good work...🤘🙂
Maybe it has been mentioned. But Alex Lifeson guested on this song. Two of my fave bands of all time in PT and Rush. And we will never hear anything new from either of them again. 😭

There is something very satisfying seeing people be blown away by this song, just like i was all them years ago. I've listened to this thousands of times and love just as much now as I did the first time. WHAT A F**KING SONG!!
Live. Version. Is. A. Must.
Oh man, I so wish you'd done the live version of this! It's absolutely, insanely great! It's on RUclips. Just search for Live and then look for the Tilburg, Holland version. It's amazing.
I cried a couple times! No shame it's pure beauty ☺️♥️♥️
Just a fabulous reaction to a mind-blowing song.
Impressed! Never heard this band before, and probably never would have listened due to the silly-ish name. Even hesitated to watch this upload of yours! But this is goooood
Exactly the same here
Silly name, SERIOUSLY GOOD BAND!!!
You will love the solo of Dark Matter by porcupine tree. Do that next
‘Fear of a Blank Planet’- Live Version and also Live version of ‘Arriving Somewhere But Not Here’ .. the two songs that got me hooked!
yesssssss
5. "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here"
6. Also Mikael and Steven receorded an album together - Storm Corrosion.
Wow! Thank you so much for the information on this amazing band- so excited to know more and more about them
Finallyyyy
Now it's time of masterpieces!
The MOOR and DEMON OF THE FALL by Opeth
Yes! Demon of the Fall. (and also The Moor) These days my absolute favourites. So much atmosphere. Also both from my favourite Opeth albums.
Porcupine Tree - Open Car
Arriving.
Somewhere.
But not.
Here.
You could stay on Porcupine Tree for years and never get sick of them. It's one of those bands for which is nearly impossible to find a non-memorable song
Great reaction as always. First solo is the great Alex Lifeson who guested on the track. Amazing band lots to dive into.
Look for the live version in Tilburg. It’s even better. Amazing live concert.
Never go wrong with porcupine tree. You need to see the live in Tilburg dvd. It's a superb live concert.
Awesome band, Awesome song. I wish U reacted to the Live version of that song. Cuz the drummer is soooo Awesome in that one. More fills. Hopefully U can react to that version of that. & you'll see what I mean. U 2 are awesome. Keep up the good work...🤘🙂
Thanks 🙏
Go to 11:07. Dylan gets punched in the face with a killer drum sequence. Totally blind sided. Absolutely priceless.
Oh god, finally you guys reacted to THE Porcupine Tree. I am so happy now
Everyone say live version, I say Alex Lifeson's solo is enough of a reason to listen to the studio track.
Maybe it has been mentioned. But Alex Lifeson guested on this song. Two of my fave bands of all time in PT and Rush.
And we will never hear anything new from either of them again. 😭
