I'm a 59-year-old dude. When I first sat down and listened to this in early Sept 2019 I knew about 4 minutes in that this would be special. At about 7 minutes in a strange thing happened: A tear came to my eye and I started blubbering like an eight-year-old, no screaming or anything... At 10 minutes it finally dawned on me what was happening! I thought of a Beatles fan carefully placing the brand new White Album on the turntable in the late 60's, or when I heard the first minute of Zepp's "Achilles Last Stand" in 1976. Whatever reason we are drawn to Metal or any type of music, my emotions were asking me "Is this it?", "Will this be the highest moment of my music listening life?", "Will there be ever be better than this?" "Is it impossible to get better than this?". I don't believe as humans we are ever prepared to not wish for more.

I believe it 💯. I can tell there’s so many sections of the material where they’re are just jamming/improvising. After being in group for decades you get together and no one talks to each other. someone will start a guitar lick a drum beat what have you and everyone joins in. They’ve developed such a binding chemistry they can all get in a room and start jamming without a word being said. You can tell they just hit record start jamming and the outcome eventually molds its way into another masterpiece. I’ve been in a few bands where the chemistry was so on point that’s exactly what we’d do and before we knew we had a bunch of promising material without a word said

This song takes months, even years to comprehend, and this is coming from a very seasoned Tool listener. This is NOT the song you play for someone you are introducing to Tool for the first time. Way too much to take in for an inexperienced Tool fan. This song is the ultimate Tool song. It's the final boss. You need to hear everything else they've ever written before even attempting this song. You need to hear it all multiple times as well. If I were to list the sequence of Tool songs to progress through for someone who is new to them, this would undoubtedly be the last song.

Don't know if you remember me saying it was pretty obvious why they left this for the last track on the album. Not only would it be hard to follow this up with one of the other songs, but some of Adam's riffs in 7empest were from before the Aenima album. They hadn't found a place to use them until now and this is an incredible blend of their early sound mixed with the more recent stuff. It would set an unrealistic expectation for what the rest of the album would be if they led off with this track.

It’s incredible how they’re ALL 10/10 on musicianship(whereas most bands would kill to have one 10/10) and can full on Ham any moment but they rarely do, they all just do their part so beautifully to be a part of the whole which puts them above a 10/10. Even Maynard adds the lyrics last and keeps the volume low as to once again blend as another instrument and not take over being the vocal point. Danny comes the closest to being a Ham and well he’s otherworldly, so what can you say? Well I say 13 years it was worth the wait. Every minute of it and if this is your last album this is a great masterpiece to end your timeless discography. Thanks for all the impact on playing a large part of the soundtrack of my life. White Butterfly_46n2 Exactly, no words are needed and good luck even trying to put this insane musical masterpieces into words in the 1st place. Just close your eyes sit back and enjoy the ride. And they didn’t just win a Grammy they won the Grammys in it’s entirety With this one

@@dmusiclife5727 So True! I have both release's of the album that were gifted to me. I couldn't afford tickets. I never got the chance to have that Tool concert experience. I wanted to so bad though. And have cried many times. Maybe in another life. Until then I listen just about every day. And enjoy every minute. Full blast.😊

Had the privilege to witness the live debut of this song on February 18th in Sydney. It was fucking amazing. The whole show was. Great reaction video as usual 🤘

Did they play the whole track? And did Maynard do vocals? I only saw a brief clip of it and Maynard didn’t have vocals going where he normally did where he repeats “The Tempest must be just that”, I’d appreciate some intel from a source on the ground 😁✌️

CYBER DEMON yeah they did, the whole 15 minutes with vocals. Being the first time they played it live was pretty awesome to find out later. They nailed it of course

Tim Farrow well we’d assume that playing it for the third time it’d be a better performance. Either way it was awesome and so was the whole performance, we were lucky to even be there. Being from QLD we wanted to go to Brisbane show but all tickets were sold out basically in an instant. Thankfully Tool announced a couple extra gigs down south and we jumped on the opportunity.

Adam Jones kills this track. He's such an underrated guitarist. Danny kills it like always and Justin does to. Maynard also kills this too.

Best song I've ever heard, True gods of the art that noone can top! Best all time at what they do. This is honestly all their sounds over the year's combined into one masterpiece of perfection. I'm just honored to have lived to hear this.

A fellow tool fan here, looking at your reactions, I had tears in my eyes. I still remember, the first time I heard this song I was so overwhelmed and was crying like a child who just discovered his lost toy. I had no one besides me to share that experience, but I loved your both reactions. They are priceless! Spiral Out, Keep going!
