    This reaction transported me to the time I listened to Ghost Reveries for the first time in my life. Ghost of Perdition, in my opinion, is one, if not the best, prog metal song of the decade. It's flawless. The composition is complex, layered, dynamic and the flow of it is absolutely immaculate. It is emotional, it has a pathos that only Opeth can conjure and the lyrics are one of the darkest Opeth has ever written.

    • @theuniversewithin2065
      @theuniversewithin2065 Год назад

      @@BonzoDrummerhow is Harlequin Forest a failed attempt at anything? Why do you need to put Opeth's songs against each other, kind of pointless. Opeth has made countless masterpieces and should be cherished as such, instead of comparing them.

    • @BonzoDrummer
      @BonzoDrummer Год назад

      @@theuniversewithin2065 The outro is, to an experienced Opeth listener, a very obvious reference or tribute to the Deliverance outro, but one that just sounds too try-hard and ultimately fails to live up to the original.

    • @theuniversewithin2065
      @theuniversewithin2065 Год назад

      @@BonzoDrummer So I'm not an "experienced Opeth listener"?? I wouldn't even consider these outroes to be related, other than the unique time signatures. What's the point of putting them up against each other? Why can't you just enjoy them separately for the masterpieces they are? Maybe it's you who are too nostalgic making your perception of the first song taint the other one. Deliverance and HF are two vastly different songs and the outroes are very different. I highly doubt Åkerfeldt has ever said the HF outro was an attempt at Deliverance. Going by your logic we could do this for every Opeth song and compare sections and rate them. Some songs are better than others, but I simply think it's your biased view that keep you from enjoying HF fully.

    Whatever that guitar thing is at 6:19 has always mesmerised me. (Guitar thing, yup, I'm a drummer).
    This was the first song of Opeth I heard back in '05 at 14 years old. I still hear something new and incredible even when I listen to it now.
    Love seeing how much you guys get into it!

    I have been watching your reactions for a long time now, since the beginning of the channel almost, and I always loved the way you guys enjoy and perceive music, and I identify a lot with it!! Baying Of The Hounds is the follow up song from the same record (the whole record is solid btw), other than that you'll probably want to go with Harlequin Forest or Masters Apprentices. Same era and mix of vocals. For mostly clean vocals Hex Omega are the one! Tasteful, heavy and progressive.
    Great channel you got going here btw! Cheers!

    Im 35 year old man and now Im gonna admit a couple of things here and now. This reaction video really made an impression on me, just watching you guys in this completely different setting, both of you far away in your own cosmos - this song is a true fucking masterpiece, right?! From the middle part and my tears exploded and started to flow down my lap, like ALOT, this was a totally different experience from all the other videos on this song. I love watching you do TOOL songs too, its epic! Sharing is caring 🤘👀🤘

    Guys, I got chills and almost cried listening to your video and seing your reaction. I discovered this band many years ago. My kids were young and grew up with that band. One day my 16 yo boy invited me to an Opeth show in Quebec city, Canada!!! Was one of the most memorable night of my life. They played Blackwater Park and Ghost of Perdition and since than, it's very emotional for me when I hear those songs. Thanks for that great moment and keep on the good job!!!

    Yeah indeed welcome to Opeth. Great reaction video...this was everything I look forward to in an Opeth reaction video. That raw feeling of amazement and sheer pleasure when you hear this for the first time..you two captured it perfectly. Most Opeth songs take a few listens before you get it..you both got it straight away. My suggestion for next track is Baying of the Hounds...because that comes after Ghost of Perdition on the album..the order as it was intended. Can’t wait for the next one.

  • @arwiviv
    @arwiviv 4 года назад +1

    As a guy who started listening to them 20 years ago, your reaction was fun to watch (and thanks for letting the song play). This song was off of Ghost Reveries, which I consider their last "original Opeth" sounding album. They changed after this...still great but much different. There is still TONS for you guys to here from Ghost Reveries on back back. This song is great....and it only MIGHT make my top 10 Opeth list.

    Great Reaction! All those changes taking you off-guard and making you laugh that's so adorable and I totally know the feeling. :) Ghost of Perdition is the best Opeth song in my book and overall one of the best songs ever made. The contrast between brutal and beautiful, the flow, the transitions and the tension and release is just off the charts. When that album came out I hadn't listened to Opeth in a while and word was out the album was a return to form, so I didn't check anything out beforehand I just bought it, put it on headphones and it blew me away right from the start with this ominous chord progression that starts out so silently and then - boom! - Death Metal right in your face. And, because it's Opeth, it's not your typical Death Metal. It's in Waltz time, which I love.
    The whole album just slays. And there was a long discussion back in the day on the official Opeth message board (before it got closed) if it's a concept album or not. Because Mikael Akerfeldt said it started as a concept but at some point he scrapped the concept because he had a song that didn't fit and wanted it on the album nevertheless. So, I regard it as a "broken concept" :) I think there is still enough of the concept left so that you can connect the dots yourself and the added song (which is the last one) can still be viewed as a kind of epilogue to the concept or some alternate timeline or mirror universe or whatever you might call it. It's open to interpretation :)
