    Coming back to this tutorial after about 4 years; my husband asked nicely if I can crochet his coworkers these hats for gifts when he goes on his next work trip. After making the first hat 4 years ago he's received numerous compliments in our community and travels for this pattern.

    I, too used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick Super Bulky #6 with a P 11.5mm hook. I added 1 row of DC (24). Hat is beautiful. Easiest and quickest pattern ever. Am now going to do messy bun hat and scarf. Thanks for video as I have hard time w/patterns. I also ch 4, slip st, ch 3, then DC 11 into circle as have never mastered magic circle, always works for me.

    I used your pattern today to make a hat. I converted the pattern into a ponytail hat. I did not have a M or S hook so I use a P hook and used hdc instead. I had to add more rows of course to make it fit. I love the way the hat fits. I will use the pattern as you have it when I can get a M hook since I have a small head. Thank you so much for posting the pattern.

      Glad you commented. I have a bully size 6 yarn but the size 9 hook isn't working to make the hat wide enough for my head. I tried the with a size 10 hook and it's too flat. Will have to adapt the pattern with increases using the size 9.

    This is so cute and easy to follow, thank you! Definitely took me well over an hour because I have never used that large hook before so I was basically hand stitching for a while lol. And I had to add a row of double crochet and increase to 30 stitches and then also add another row of single crochet on the brim and it still fits snug. I don't know how that happens! But I loved making this and will do many more. Thank you so much!

    Love the chunky hat! I had to tweak it a bit since I was using yarn size 6 instead of 7. I added an extra round of DC and the last round of SC for the brim, i decreased it by 2 stitches, so 22 stitches :) - fits snug but not too snug. Working on the pom pom to complete it. Thanks for the great video!

      Maria R At which row did you add the DT?

  • @RubyWoo98
    @RubyWoo98 7 лет назад +28

    The magic circle is my enemy haha. I just chain two and work the first row in the second loop from the hook (first ch you made) Make sure you start with a three or four inch tail and when youre done working the first row pull the tail tight to close the circle. I forgot where I learned this but it's super helpful if you can't nail the magic circle.

    I love the pattern,it was very easy to make and fit my head just right,However when my daughter saw them(I made 4)she said the stitches were loose,I told her it was supposed to be that way because of the size of the hook,It kind of hurt my feelings but I let it go,I was planning on giving them a gifts but now I have decided to keep them,So now I'm going to try a smaller hook and see what happens,Thanks for this pattern

      IrisN right before the two rows of single crochet. I don't know if it's because I crochet a little tighter, but the hat barely fit over my ears before that. It also makes it slightly slouchy which I like!

    • @AlexisMiddletonPersiaLou

      Hmm... It might be the knot from when you finish off your yarn? If you weave in the ends tightly and pull that knot down as you weave it in that might help with the unevenness. Hope that helps!

    When making winter worn projects use warmer darker color yarn like dark red, da rk orange, dark yellow, dark tan, dark brown. These colors will absorb heat better than the lighter cooler colors which are better for summerwear projects.

    This hat was too huge on my head! But I started with 8 stitches around my magic loop and it turned out great with a Q hook & this same yarn! My question though, what do you do with the loop after you tighten your magic circle?? I ended up tying my pom pom around it to keep it from moving around

    • @AlexisMiddletonPersiaLou

      Thanks for telling us how it turned out for you! I know that will be helpful for others. I just weave in the tail from my magic loop and don't have any problems with it moving around. It should stay tight.
