  • I'm always looking for an easy way to get a chrome like finish on my lures. That means I'm always testing spray chrome products like Spaz Stix and Molotow. In this video we look at how they hold up as spray chrome for lure making. I also give you an underwater look a the shrimp lures we made in the last couple videos.

    I was waiting on the underwater because of the weight placement on the hard bait version. I would like you to try to move the weight in front of the hook and see if the tail would act like a Bill, or bib as you call it, and give a wobble. I think it would because there was a slight one I saw on a straight retrieve. Then you could play with microballons and get a action to cast ratio that you could work with.
    Just a thought If you like it I would like to hear about it. Hope you and yours have a great Christmas and New Years. Thanks for the videos!

Fortunately for me I will be painting model cars so they don’t need to be clear coated but I did want to paint something chrome under my hood of my truck and your video helped me or made me rethink clear coating. I saw a video of a krylon paint called foil. I saw a video of this and came out pretty good. No clear coat test. Maybe you can try it out. I was going to just decant them paint and use it in an airbrush. Anyway. Great video. And happy new year.

    Great Video, I like the quality of the airbrushing you are doing with your chrome, are you using an Iwata? or is that another brand- seems like it shoots good for you. I also have a question- would that Chrome plating work on covering a steel Spoon type lure, or does it only work on Plastics? also does your process only work when you spray over clearcoat?

    I got a couple of Rat -L-Traps to repaint that had a mirror chrome factory finish. There are obviously other lures and lure blanks that have bright chrome finish. Do you have any idea how they obtain mirror chrome but it seems the average guy can’t? Is it electroplating maybe? Or your silver plating?
    FWIW, the Rat-L-Traps both had the finish wear off. They appear as though there was no coating over the paint so they most likely weren’t a very tough finish. My challenge is to be able to apply a two part epoxy so I’m most likely going to need a mid coat. At this point I’m going to try Despiae with a floor wax mid coat.
    I have some Spaz-Stix but don’t think I’m gonna bother with it. I had seen where a guy used chrome finger nail powder on chrome hood ornaments with excellent results so that’s in the mix. I tried one on a test lure so far but less than stellar results . Work in progress
    Obviously all your information has been exceptionally useful. Thanks for all your time and work

      You can try but I doubt it will match the finish very well

    What eas the gold die you added to the clear? Was the clear uv clear?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад +1

      Yes it was UV clear and the yellow was a transparent resin dye...it has to be transparent!

      @@EngineeredAngler so after doing this video and the other video where you used foil tapes which would you say is the best way to achieve a chrome lure? If it is foil, is there a preferred brand you have?

      @@EngineeredAngler thanks. So do you think that the foil is still the better option for chroming a lure? Have you ever tried foil of just doing a small section?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад

      Foil does a good job but, it's not chrome! I have made getting a truly reflective surface on lures kind of a personal challenge. I was able to get it perfect with the silver plating but, it's the sort of thing that I do when I have 10 or more lures to plate. Otherwise it's not really worth it.

    I wonder how Mattel HOTWHEELS factory paint plastic chrome car bodies and wheel rims.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад

      They actually chrome plate...you can do it over plastic. Look at most cars, they have chrome plated plastic trim.

      @@EngineeredAngler Chrome plating plastic is done with electric current?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад

      Yes...I looked into it and it's doable for the hobbyist but, you need lots of room and have to be will to drop nearly 2 grand to get started...no thanks!
