Crankbait action testing. I didn't know the differences until now.

- In this video we make 4 identical crankbaits and use 4 different dive bib shapes to see what the differences in action will be. I think you'll be surprised at the slow motion action of the different lures.
Let me know what you learned and which one of the 4 you like best.
If you want to submit a guess of the weight of the bass:
The guess should be in this format: 2lb 3.16oz (lb, oz. out two decimals)

The winner has already been chosen...no more guesses will be considered. Thank you all for playing along.
While a longer bill certainly has potential for a large surface area for water to hit. I think the weight of the bills are extremely important for judging the action. Also ballast weight placement. So each lure sits in the water, rises the same, and weighs the same.
Thanks for testing stuff like this. It sure does everyone a lot of good. Can't wait for the Master Class for Weighting & Balancing!
Franco I like the action of the circle bib, the question I have is: if you had a larger circle would the lure still have the same action or more erratic. My guess for the weight is 0lbs 14.45ozs.
The larger the surface area the trend is, amplitude goes up and frequency goes down.
You should make a wandering crank bait and see what it takes to get it to wander. Love this stuff my dude!
Hi Franco. Thank you for the lip testing. I think I asked you about this topic in a prior video for the QOTW.
My guess is 2.06lbs.
Thank you again! 👍🏻🎣🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed
1lb. 2.73 oz. I enjoyed the video and liked the action of the round bill best. I fish clear water, so too much action can scare the fish off.
Great information definitely going to use it. 2 lb 1.15 oz hope I win at love watching your show haven't missed one yet since I've subscribed and went back to watch all the previous shows to me you're the best RUclips bait maker out there for information on lure making for the engineering portion thank you
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy the content.
Guess: 2lb 2.21oz
Thanks for making these awesome videos! I really appreciate the work and detail you put into them.
I appreciate that
I love modification comparisons. Reminds me of a "Crash Dummy" paint job, excellent for "tests". LOL Thanks for the video Franko! More than 0-0.00. 😉
Great finding! parhaps the lure will run straight on the same axis with a concave shape on both side of lip while letting it wiggle.
Lexan won't cope with any bending. Acrylic glass will, but it's useless as a bib. Won't last long. ABS would be my best bet.
Very interesting and informative. I plan on the coffin style going into my longer baits ant the square bill in my shorter ones. My guess is 1lb 4.89oz.
a fisherman would tell it"s a 10 pounder for sure haha my guess 1 lb 5.64 Oz Something i tried, was to play with the bill's wideness where it would stick out from the side of the body vs flush to the body where the insert is. What i find is that when the bill sticks out right away from the insert, i think it catches more water. The lure would have more"headshake" left to right. The flush to the body insert, would have less of that action but you go slimmer lip shape, it would allow more belly roll. It"s a great library of lure making you did. It will be a great reference and congrats on the 40k subscribers
1lb 9.78oz Great info! Thanks 😁
Great video, lots of useful information. I will be giving that circular lip a try for sure. 1# 7.55oz.
Good luck!
Love this video! I am an engineer also and like to know "why" a bait is designed like it is. Keep it up!
Thanks! Will do!
Freaking sweet. Good test. Circle lips it is from here on out.
2 lb 2.24 oz, thanks for all the content
I really like the action on that round bill. Gonna have to make one to try. 1lb 4.28 ounces.
Great video, always enjoy watching!! 3lb 2.56oz
Great video. I love the round bib! I am guessing the fish you caught is close to 1 lb 7.12 oz😊😊😊
2lb 13oz Great videos as always!!!
They all have great action. I'd say the fish was 1lb 5.72oz.
2lb 7.17 oz. Still love watching your videos!

Hello my friend happy fishing 🎣 Friday I enjoy seeing your hand made fishing lures videos 🎒🫶🏼🎣👍🏼
Thanks 👍
i love this video showing effects on bib vs bait design.... as to fish weight 2lb 1 .03oz.
Interesting comparisons for the lips! That bass is exactly 1lb 8.50
I’m gonna try that circle bib! 1lb 2.40oz thanks!!!
Hi! You’re videos are so helpful! It would so great to test which swim is most attractive…but it might depends on the species…and the fish…and time of the day…and …😅
Could you tell the products that you used to prepare the lure before the painting?
Thanks!
nice way to know how lures work, personally, i would test them with hooks, because, in the end, you will fish them with hooks
True but sometimes the hooks make it harder to see the difference.
1lb 6oz 41... love the info-thanks
Loved the video!
My guess is 1 lb 9.34 oz
Love your videos. My guess is
1lb 12.56 oz
thanks for another great video :) My guess is 2lb 2.64oz.
Hi Franco, Thanks again for all the great content. I'm guessing 1lb, 9.62 oz
I'm a fly fisherman, but I really enjoy watching your videos!! Nice looking lure!!
I appreciate that!
1 lb 623 oz. My favorite action is the on the fish will eat! My guess is the fish will change over the course of a day
Depends if water temperature changes or not, usually
I always been a lipless guy, it's hard to beat the versatility of a lipless it's like a jig.
1lb7.82oz bass. Nice video and thanks
Another great video! 1lb 9oz 32.
1lb 10oz 03....... Nice test 👌 very helpful, testing videos are a great idea 👍👍 bring back the master classes!

Glad to help
Awesome video! As an engineer I love your content! I'm going to guess 1 lb 3.77 oz
love the science. I'm going to go with 1lb 2.11oz
1lb. 6.78 oz. The square blade seems like the first choice for me.
1lb 5.42oz awesome video😎
Excellent video! You covered another area I am struggling with.
Lovely and informative ❤ 1lb2.35oz
Amazing stuff as always..always learn so much….1lb 2.69oz 🎣🍻
Thanks 👍
Great tips on the oily substance that weeps out of castings. I normally just let them sit for a couple weeks….but glad to know that there IS a quicker method, and that its only a couple hours. 👍👍👍 …..often i get excited about making a bait….but then lose my enthusiasm after waiting a week, to paint….which then becomes a chore, because you’ve lost your Mojo for the project.
I’ll be employing that curing tip, for sure.
Glad it was helpful!
1# 5.60oz. I really enjoy videos like this. I think the rounded and coffin bibs probably have the stability needed for trolling and the square and circle bibs hunt more and would be better for cranking. Thanks for the great content!
Good point
Another great build good luck to all who enters
Enjoyed the video, 1 lb 12.32 oz
2lb 12.12oz This is really handy information. I have a number of lures that I can change the bib length on. I'll try different shapes to see how they work. Thanks for the videos.
Great video on this information brother!! You are making it really clear to everyone when it comes to selecting a new fishing lure 🙏🏽
I appreciate that!
I will definitely try to make a circular one, and it seems to me that it has the best action, that's what I imagined, you just confirmed it, the idea came from mepps, aren't they also almost circular and have the best work, I won't make a completely circular one, I'm copying mepps😉, I believe it would perform just as well on a soft bait on the back tail
2.342. I like to use the shape that catches a fish and when that shape stops working I change.
Thanks 🙏 so much Franco, videos like those are "money on the bank", I can't say how much I am appreciating yours!!!!!!
I modified a small owen as yours, I added a termostat, rex c100, well insulate with ceramic fiber . It works great, I can now control temp precisely, perfect for jobs as the one that you're showing. I was straggling while powder coating, once I begun to preheat my buzz, spinner bait, etc, at 120 c, I was finally able to powder coat, cure, in the proper way. The termostat rex c100 costs nothing, it is an awesome piece of technology, "it learns, adapts" to that unique owen characteristics maintaining a really precise temp. I say so cause I tested it with different termometers, using it since several years now.
That sounds awesome...
I live central indiana, and the squarebill is a big producer for me.
1lb 4.16 oz
I certainly enjoy learning from your videos! Thank you!
I like the fact that you are a veteran angler, but continue to want to know more about the science behind the lures, 1lb 7oz.46. Thanks for the video
I would stay the fish weighed in at 3lbs,4 ounces. Keep up the great work Frank.
Thank you.
Charles Ridgen
Outstanding video !!!
Thanks for watching
Great show as always.... I will go with 1 lb 6oz .48
1lb 4.00oz, the circle bib is interesting, would like to see it in action with a long thin lure
Question: have you used a real fish when creating a mold?
If so, would like to hear your experience
No I have not tried making a mold from a real fish...but I know some other RUclipsrs have.
One of the advantages of using the same crankbait with different actions is that fish can be very finicky. One may really shine MOST of the time but sometimes a different action will get the fish to react when your "Favorite" isnt' working. 1 lb 5.78 OZ
Really like the action of the round bib! Thanks for the comparison between bib shapes! My guess for the weight is 1lb 6.57oz
I love the channel, and how much time, effort and care you put in to each lure and explanation. My guess for the bass is 2lbs 0.24 oz. Thanks for everything
Love you videos, 😍 but that checkered paint job that round bill looks amazing 👏 thanks
1lb 6.38oz
Nice comparison video. The jelly bean would be a great candidate for lip angle and also a weight distribution comparison.
Love the square bill! Long time subscriber. 1 lb. 3.2 ox bass.
Love the caparison, thanks for taking the time to do that. Square is my favorite. My weight guess is 1lb 8.13oz
Been a while, but my best guess is 1 pound 5.23 oz.
The circle bill does indeed have a nice action to it! Thanks so much for a wonderfully informative video! It obviously took alot of effort and it is much appreciated!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great tips thank ❤, I watched a similar video in which 4 same lures and 4 same liples were tested, only the liples were at a different angle, 25, 35, 55 and 70 angle, and each lure gave a different performance of the lure, 55 turned out to have the strongest action
I learned a lot from this video--thanks. Of course I generally learn a lot from your channel anyway. I think the circle bib looked the most like a wounded minnow! My guess is: 1 LB 4.31 OZ
Really interesting and informative video, it's great to see the difference in action in the identical lures. I also like how you organize your materials in your workshop. Great work 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Nice comparison. It's nice to see the different actions. My guess is 1 lb. 14.13 oz.
Great video as always. The square bill is my favorite. I think the more action you can get out of a lure, the better the fish bites it. My guess is 1lb 3.25 oz.
I’ve been wanting to make a lure using a round bib design and appreciate your doing this test that demonstrates the action. I’m guessing the bass is 2lbs. 8.75 oz. Love your channel 👍
Great information. My guess is 1 pd. 4.17 oz. Thanks for the videos.
Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Really interesting content, I never though about different shaped bibs and how they affect a lure, thanks Franko
Glad you enjoyed it
I kinda like the round one the best. Great video. My guess is 1lb 3.69oz🎣
Great video. I like the random kick out on the square bill. My guess on that fish weight is 2lb 2.08oz
Great video. I like the square bill best. And my guess is 1 lb 5.13 oz
1lb 4.47 oz great video
I’d say it weighs 1lb 2.34oz. I love the round lip lure. I will definitely be trying to build one like that. Thank you for doing the demonstration. That was a lot of information in a short video!!!
nice demo on the effects of the different bill designs. 1 lb 9.87oz
Love your videos man. I’m guessing 1lb 11.38 oz
Franko this was an extremely informative video. Love the content!!!! my guess for the weight of the largemouth Bass is 2lbs. 3.25oz.
great video as always thanks 1lb 3.23oz
Thanks 👍
Franco...can you do a demo on the difference in action with position of the tie on eye
I have already done a couple of video with that demonstration.
As usual a perfect video Franco, thank you!
My guess for the weight is 1lb 9,04oz ✌🏼
1lb 6.15oz? Awesome vid as always!
Super informative as always! Thanks for all the time you put into this! My weight guess is : 2lb 7.05oz
1lb 9.73 oz. Thanks for the information. I love geeking out on all the particulars.
Great information, 2.07 lbs.
