Making the Lure Bow, Lure Holder

  • I have had lots of requests for this video and I have been a bit reluctant to cough it up. The lure bow is the most versatile way to hold a lure while you're painting and clear coating your lures. I designed this lure holder a long time ago and it has been one of my favorite inventions. I hope this video inspires you to make them or at least come up with your own gizmo.

      I retired and continued to fish. I now make spinners, Crappie jigs, flies, leather craft. Furthermore, I turned pens for over ten years and had to quit that due to health issues. Now I took up airbrushing plastic lures for the senior fishing club that I'm in. I am always looking for something to do that I wasn't able to do when I was younger and had to work.

      If you follow the part in the video on angling the hooks that hold the lure, you will have a holder that doesn't allow the lore to move around. Good luck.

    I look forward to your videos. Have learned a lot. I have a question about your other lure holder, the one with the knobs on the ends for the "helping hands". Did you make the springs or purchase off the shelf? I am having trouble finding strong enough springs in a small enough diameter. ?? Sorry for getting off subject.
    thanks for your help.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад

      I bought the springs. But if you use a flexible extension arm you can do without the springs.

    Have you ever made your own bills for crankbaits? I want to start molding my own for my crankbaits, and I have never attempted to do so yet. I really enjoy your videos. When I get out of my prototype stage and finalize my lure. I would love to send you one to try out. Thanks for the interesting videos.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад

      Yes I have...I have both made them from sheet material (Lexan and aluminum) and I have molded them directly with the lure body. They are easy to make but if you plan to recreate a lure, with the same bib, I think using the pre-made version saves a lot of time. Time you can spend carving new designs...Cheers.

    Most of my lures are around 2" in length. Your bows will not support anything that size, so I will have to modify it to fit my small lures. The top part of the bow is measured at 4.5". If I reduce it down to 2.5 inches, would that suffice for 2" lures?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  13 дней назад

      that should work.

    • @watermelongrin
      @watermelongrin 11 дней назад +1

      After doing one at 2-1/5", 3-1/4", I finally settled on 3-3/4" for lures at 2" in length.

    Aqueous system chrome plating peels off quickly?
    If we have epoxy coating, will it prevent peeling?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад

      The epoxy clear coat should help. But in my experience, actual chrome plating on plastic fails because the heat expansion between the materials is too different. It is used extensively on automobiles but tends to start to peel after a few hot summers.

    Quick question: What rpm motor do you recommend for turning the lures with East Coast Resin? I am hanging them and already tired of "drip-duty" lol - Thanks!

    • @EngineeredAngler

      4 to 7 rpm works well. here's a video of building a simple foldup lure turner: ruclips.net/video/wT7v7AHut5k/видео.html

    Hi. cast epoxies are very transparent. Can cast type epoxies be used in lure coating? The hardeners of adhesive type epoxies are colored yellow. What kind of epoxy should I buy for the coating?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад

      There are clear 2-part epoxies that work well. I would recommend using Famowood Glaze Coat Epoxy. It's a good place to start and it can be purchased in small quantities. If you want an even lower investment, you can use any two part quick setting (10min.) epoxy adhesive. Just be sure it says "sets clear". Good luck.
