    Loved hearing the old girl working on the hills Steve and I didn't need earplugs, but as you said she is loud in the cab. Enjoyed every bit of it cobber and the film crew did a job job to.🤠

      Thank you Daryl. It is noisy mate. The plugs just make it that bit better. You can actually hear better with them in because it takes that high note away. Much better at the end of the day.

    I drove an Albion with this cab back in 1968/9. It was a super Reiver 3 Axle chassis with a concrete mixer mounted .Leyland 400 engine which was underpowered when the mixer was full. Brand new at the time, it was a demonstrator for the Rapier Truck Mixer. I worked for NCK Rapier at the time as a Service Engineer, A UK company making crawler cranes, Rubber tyred mobile cranes and The Truck mixers. Also made a range of water pumps and concrete Pumps.

    Watching you flick thru the shift pattern takes me back. Drove a 3070C back in the 80s here in kiwiland. Had same box with a 903. Could hardly stay in the seat with an empty transporter 😮 but she was a weapon in her day. Got a new 2233 merc after that. Was luxury to drive but compared to the 3070 the merc couldn't pull a sick chook off its nest. Love you channel, always look forward to the next one 👍

    Steve, a real gentleman. I agree a different truck to pick things up would certainly be more comfortable and less fuel. What I really liked was the old bus. I remember busses from the 60s, not that brand but beautiful. Sorry I was late in replying but my long time friend and employee, well his wife died. Steve, you building a really awesome channel mate, I love your content and I think it’s a great testimonial to you when people start donating trucks like this because they know it’s going to somewhere better. I’ve watched many American shows on similar lines, except there is such a huge Cat following and availability over there that is the centre of there preservation; whereas here in Australia, we’ll I guess we are a bit bastardised aren’t we. Point is we have a couple of great channel now here and they are worthy of patronage. Keep up the massive effort mate and remember it’s an Aussie thing to get your mates round to give a hand to concrete a drive etc. I’m sure there’s a lot of us out here who now live there lives now who can’t afford to buy a truck, or don’t have the space, or feel they are too old etc to do it themselves but would relish the chance to come down and give you a hand to pull apart some old machinery to give you a hand, believe me retiring is a bit of a shock in many ways, least of all being able to rub shoulders with likeminded folks to share in a common goal. Anyway that’s me Sunday say, appreciate your channel and all the good you bring to our teles, cheers mate

    • @stevesplacedownunder
      @stevesplacedownunder  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Gordon. This is a nice comment mate and thank you. A lot of blokes have said the same thing about the American channels. There is a little community of us here in Australia doing it now which I think is magnificent. I try to save what I can and to be given something like this is just brilliant and much appreciated.
      If you are down around here mate and feel like tinkering with something here please look me up. I’m always open to help and meeting like minded people. I get what you mean about no room. This old stuff brings back memories man, the buses and trucks, I started driving trucks my first truck was a Clydesdale I drove it for years, that kinda explains the problem I have with my hearing well lack of good bloody hearing now i think solid old stuff the owner of the company I worked for still has 3 or 4 full restored old Albion's the three brothers loved them well they were build only about 40 miles from the depot, wow man great memories good times, i ended my working life just recently i worked doing the nightshift shunting the artic trucks and trailers and parking them up,, what bloody far cry from the old Clydesdale,s right now they have Daf's Volvos Renault's and Ivecos, none will last like the Albions tho.

      @@stevesplacedownunder Yeah, the older Volvo's are very durable, the three brothers who owned the company I worked for had on to pull a low loader to carry the Albion's to shows, which was fairly regular in the summer months, if the show was in the central belt of Scotland where the depo is they just drove them to them themselves, they loved Albion's as I said Albion's were built in Clydebank well actually Yoker ( outskirts of Glasgow ) about 40 miles from the depot in Armadale they had the three Albion's painted in they're company colours, the company is Drummond distribution Armadale west Lothian, the three old boys are all passed away now tho, I have no idea what has happened to the Albion's I wouldn't be surprised if they're still locked in a depot shed now, anyway thanks for the wee reply, good on ye for keeping all these old girls going.

    Was going to ask you how was the wife’s hearing after the trip. I saw that you had ear plugs in to combat the ole screaming GM. Talking about going to school on the old Leyland bus, I have fond memories in NZ in the late sixties of our school bus was a Bedford based on the S class series. Apparently New Zealand Road Services, a division of New Zealand Railways had the largest fleet of that model of Bedford bus in the world. Also old Mates Leyland Beaver was very similar to the Leyland Lynx milk tanker that I got my semi licence in. What a gift is the old Albion is. A Leyland very similar to that was ran by Refrigerated Freight Lines in New Zealand as a truck and trailer unit in the sixties and went to the bottom of Wellington Harbour in 1968 when the Inter Island ferry the Wahine struck rocks and capsized. Anyway the truck was salvaged by cutting it in half and then rebuilt as a Prime Mover I think and continued to give many more years of service. Thanks for the video Mate👍PS I am old school and was brought up if you cannot say anything nice about people don’t say anything at all

    Excellent adventure Steve, and what a freebie that LAD-cabbed Clydesdale is - I'd be interested to know what engine it's got, it doesn't sound like the Leyland 0.400 from that short start-up but who knows.
    Yer man with the AEC Regent bus ~@46:35: it's got a pre-select gearbox. The left pedal engages the gear the driver selected beforehand: if the driver didn't dab the left pedal, the change wouldn't go through. AEC Routemasters (the archetypal "London bus") had a similar arrangement, right down to the gear selector under the steering wheel.
    BTW I know of an even older Albion Clydesdale (with a lazy axle), and it's still stood in a paddock near where I live. No-one I've contacted seems interested.

    • @stevesplacedownunder
      @stevesplacedownunder  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi mate. I’m very pleased with the truck. It’s a Leyland 400 engine yes. It has a 12 speed transmission too which shifts just beautifully.
      Those bus transmissions are interesting. I remember going to school even in the late 90s and they were still running old Leopards with a similar trans. We spoke more about it off camera and mentioned similar to what you are.
      It’s a shame nobody wants the Clydesdale near you. She deserves a good home

      @@stevesplacedownunder Thanks for the reply Steve, I'm chuffed you read my comment. Much (but not all) of my working life has been on wagons and I've always tried to master whatever gearbox I've been presented with, but bus transmissions are a thing I've never had to dally with. The Leyland Leopards you went to school on might (probably?) have been pneumocyclic like the Atlanteans and Leopards Sydney UTC had - they're a bit different from the pre-select AEC and both are different to the SCG box that Bristol RE/ Bristol VR/ Leyland National had... it's all a bit confusing. The 12speed on the Clydesdale - is it a range-change or a splitter or both?
      PS if you ever find yourself up here in the central tablelands in or west of Bathurst, let me know

    • @stevesplacedownunder
      @stevesplacedownunder  5 месяцев назад

      @@taxus750 I will always try to reply mate. Yes the bus transmission was hard to remember back then but I just remember a small H pattern box with a short stick on the side of the column and it was just changed without a clutch. Must of had like a torque converter type arrangement in it.
      The other gear stick is a splitter. Can split each gear in the main box and it works great.
      Thanks for the offer and yes mate thanks I will
