The truck that made trucking famous! I drove an 8 wheeler slabcab tipper years ago here across the ditch. Same engine ... would climb the side of a house in in lo w gear. Trouble was when it was empty it shook the crap out of you. Aweswome to see this old gear come back to life
Good old reliable mack. I use to work for a garbage company for 12 years and we had r models for a long time before they got the newer ones. We call them roll off here in the US
Well Steve, she started and we had a ride in the old girl. Then she said enough, park me up mate. Job wll done cobber and thanks again to you and the bride.🤠
Howdy 🤠 from the Northwoods of Minnesota If there a cone type cap on axle then it's a 44K diff. Flat plate on axle then it's likely a 38K. Being a garbage truck it likely have the inter axle lock, turn all 8 drives.
Greetings from the US USA, I always look forward to your Sunday morning snarky comedy plus making sure you’re still having a couple of cold ones. I will be joining you later as it is 7 AM here just outside of Chicago Illinois. keep up the good content from one Steve to another

My nephew is training there for a year he's in the marine Corp say hi to little sister and thank her being such a great part of your adventures say hi to everyone little brother and sister from another country down under and have an awesome day as always have an awesome day
Yeah she started good Scott. I might do another episode when I can on finding the blockage. I found one before I filmed but it obviously got another one when it was running on the camera
Drove one years ago 12 speed extended shift they called had to fire the compressor up each time to start it the tank leaked drove ok for a Mack though.
Hi there Steve good on ya mate keeping these trucks going love trucks myself but i need more experience with them more take care mate keep up the great work blessings cheers everyone from far north Queensland tablelands thanks for sharing I've subscribed to your blog so keep the videos coming thanks mate 👍
Good work son, nice to see the old hooer come to life. 5 spoke spiders tells you it has 34,000lb rear axles. It’s a very original looking truck, a real time capsule.
Thanks son. She came to life great, but then when we went for a run she blocked up again. Must be something in the tank. I wasn’t sure about the diffs but makes sense being what it was. She’s not as big as I first thought 😅😅. Not much has been changed on it no.
Hi Steve I really enjoy your videos. I only discovered your channel a few months ago, love the old gear you have. It brings back so many memories for me. Yesterday I was in Melbourne and saw an old White Road Commander.
Many of otherwise good trucks have met there end here in the rust belt in the US, it’s a shame. When you drove off with the vegetation in the front bumper I thought when you park it it will look like it hasn’t been moved.
It’s a terrible shame indeed. You have some models over there that I would give my front teeth for, stuff that we didn’t see here in Australia. The vegetation in the bumper is an awful weed that’s taking over here. It’s covered in sharp barbs that really hurt. That’s half the reason I didn’t rush to pull it out
Steve, those trucks were used to collect household garbage in Brisbane when I was a kid. I assume they won the contract for greater Brisbane and worked early to mid 80s at least
Hi mate yes I believe so. My mate has all the history on Mack’s and said something similar to that. It was one of many that were ordered at the same time
cool looking old thing, could star in a duel remake... i mean it already has a personality... i assume it was an overhead lift bin lorry to begin with? so that thing on the front is to ram skip bins?
Yes mate. It’s been a long time coming. The Flintstone needs a cab at the least. It’s not a bad truck mechanical wise though and a great chassis. See what the future holds mate
I used to see this old girls sisters getting around Sydney a bit in the early 90's, most of them must have been a 5 or 6 speed Mack box cause drivers used to rev the ring out of them between gear changes.
Oh no what criminal took the air start out of her. One of the most iconic sounds a vehicle can make. Oh well she’s in retirement now, and being a angry granny ha ha
They are a bit of a bugger to get parts for. The last one I rebuilt for a bloke I know. Took a bit of getting the parts for it so I guess this is a cheap option
@@stevesplacedownunder oh didn’t know it was getting harder to find parts. I suspected they were sick of fixing air leaks and keeps going to start it on a Monday morning to find the start tank empty
Don't worry about the spiders it's the rodents that live in the seats that will get you first.😂 I wasn't a fan of the Mack's. It felt like you had been beaten up and were knacked after a night behind the wheel compared to the KW.
Hi mate yes that’s right. I’m a bit the same, I’ve never been a truck driver full time, always on and off but the ones I have drove, including two R models are very cramped. I find myself to tall for them and leaning forward to see out the windscreen
Just trying different methods I’ve learned from others doing it. I’ve done loads of these videos and I never get many views so I do apologise for trying something different
@@stevesplacedownunder gotta keeps us in suspense mate😉 love seeing the old R series running. I drove a R 600 for years had the 350hp with Mack 10speed box, that old girl could haul arse.
@greglomas7620 i kinda thought that that one wouldn’t of mattered because it’s been in a lot of episodes, but I guess for new viewers it’s different. They are a good truck mate. I have a soft spot for them, but I find them uncomfortable being as tall as I am

Hi mate. Yes those cabover Mack’s are extremely rough to ride in. Thanks as always for watching
You growing pot between the trucks!
Good old reliable mack. I use to work for a garbage company for 12 years and we had r models for a long time before they got the newer ones. We call them roll off here in the US

Gday, bloody awesome to see this banger running, you know I have a soft spot for an R Model, top job mate
It is great to see it running mate. Yes I know, I was thinking of you when I was filming it😅
Well Steve, she started and we had a ride in the old girl. Then she said enough, park me up mate. Job wll done cobber and thanks again to you and the bride.🤠
Yes she did mate. I got what cab ride footage I could mate. Wasn’t what I wanted but I got it moved which was the main thing. Thanks as always Daryl
Top video mate
Thank you mate

Wow! She burst into life like it was parked yesterday. Gotta love the reliability of a good ol' diesel!! Great video, Steve!!
She certainly did mate, it’s always started good this one. Great old engines
Easy to start mate , no drama there . Too bad about the blockage though, it will come right with little attention .
Yeah she started good Scott. I might do another episode when I can on finding the blockage. I found one before I filmed but it obviously got another one when it was running on the camera
Really amazing how a diesel truck can sit for long long periods of time and bang over ,good video Cheers.
They are a good thing mate. Thanks for watching
The hook on your hat when I saw it made me smile 😂 I have one on my cap as well 😂
Indeed mate
Drove one years ago 12 speed extended shift they called had to fire the compressor up each time to start it the tank leaked drove ok for a Mack though.
Thanks for watching mate. Yes they sometimes had to be parked near a compressor if the start tank had a slow leak
Just a tad disappointed that you didn’t crack a beer, are you feeling all right?
That was first thing in the morning mate. The trucks I filmed after it I certainly had one going
That was awesome fired right up you can't beat those Ole dogs they are true Ole iron brother

Hey Steve ! I got a chainsaw and weed whacker let me detail that Mack for ya mate ! 🍺👊😎👍

Gday Dean thanks for watching. Yes mate we all good here, hope you all are too
Sounds like a very solid engine
Certainly is mate
Those triple countershaft transmissions often rattle at low idle. Our truck has always done that
Thats the first time ive even been in a mack lol on the Flinstone Classic sounds like a Tee-shirt to me lol🙂
Glad you enjoyed it mate
G'day Steve ,
It sounds like a nice rig .
Just check em for spiders ,or the romantic drives in the bush are over .
Cool vid .
Respect....!
Hi mate. I just brush the spiders aside usually 😅😅. Thanks mate
Didn't want to play for you. Still a good video. Have a good week. Marc.
She played enough for what I needed it to do mate I guess that’s what matters for now. All the best mate

Hi Nick. It looks older than what it actually is mate. Same age as me🥹😅
cool looking old thing, could star in a duel remake... i mean it already has a personality... i assume it was an overhead lift bin lorry to begin with? so that thing on the front is to ram skip bins?
Either a hook bin or RORO.
I’m not sure if it was a compactor body or always a hook lift. The thing at the front is the hydraulic pump
Worked for Toronto Fire and first pumper was a Mack. Must have been same 237. Sounds so familar..lol
Is Bruce your dad?
Yes we finaly see the day the red mack go 😁
And what's the plan for the Flintstone resto maybe?
Yes mate. It’s been a long time coming.
The Flintstone needs a cab at the least. It’s not a bad truck mechanical wise though and a great chassis. See what the future holds mate
What year is this truck? Are there older trucks in Australia, e.g. Volvo?
This is 1984 mate. The Volvo is 1972
Is that Mack truck have a Cummings diesel, or some other diesel? Greetings from the U.S.
Hi mate. It’s a Mack 237 engine in that one
What transmission does it have? Duplex or triplex?
Mack 5 speed
Shame the rusts got her!
It is a shame indeed
Coool

Pity about the chassis, she’d be a ripper. Thanks 👍🏻🇦🇺
It is a pity Paul yes because the rest of it is really good
