Great stuff mate. The cabover will pull surprisingly well being single drive. Brilliant old truck, and the W model has plenty of potential. I can’t afford one though🥲🥲, they are a collectors item up here. Well done mate and all the best
Thanks mate! I would like to get it on the road but you know how it is there’s always somthing else that’s higher up the list of priorities. It would be a fun little truck to rip around in! They are here aswell I only buy the roughest ones 10k or under is about my limit and then I just have to put a lot of time into them!
@@dieseldownunder. yeah mate that’s right. Even the nice few that I have were $1200 specials with a heap of time and money put into them. So I guess paying more up front isn’t a bad thing. I’d be keen if I saw one under $10k, but it would go quickly. It would have to be a private deal that hasn’t been advertised. Talk soon mate
Hi from France, another great little video, those old bangers will out live all of us,they don't build trucks like that any-more,all that's really missing is an air-start,didn't they scare the shit out of you when you weren't expecting it.....Over here i work for a huge transport company (22,000 trucks),the truck i usually drive ended up in the garage (DEF problem) so i had to take the spare truck, mate what a shocker,no oil,no cooling liquid,no windscreen washer liquid,no lights (well very few) engine retard out of order (pretty hilly where i went to deliver),mate that old cabover should be over here,as the spare truck, might change the mentality of the drivers over here.
I agree mate not many of todays vehicles will still be able to be started in 50-60 years time, damaged wiring fried ecu’s lack of parts will kill of most of todays vehicles before that get to that age! I don’t have anything with air start yet but I’d love to put it on somthing! Wow 22,000 trucks is a lot to keep track of that’s crazy! That’s the problem when people arn’t assigned to their own trucks there’s no accountability because they will always just blame the last driver! Imagine if this showed up there would be a lot of complaining and most people would probably refuse to drive it😂
Great video Jake! Good to see the cab over bouncing up and down the paddock, definitely harsh on your back those short wheel base leaf spring trucks. If that box is anything like my road ranger fuller, it needs a constant air supply to engage low range, so if the compressor is still missing that’s why it’s stuck in high. I loved seeing it driving under its own steam though 🤙🏻😎 brilliant video mate! Can’t wait for the next😁
Thanks mate! Yep it’s not the smoothest ride out there! That makes sense why it wasn’t in low range I have a compressor I could probably put on it so I might do that and put some brake boosters on it that way it can be moved around easily and I need to change the oil as it was pretty bad as you saw, but I’ll save all that for a rainy day! Thanks for watching!
Awesome Jake, Ohh the music of the 8V71, There was a truck when I was a kid that had a 12V71 in it, From memory, Only two I understand came into NZ, I think they were KWs, One was local to where I lived growing up, Ohh the joy it brought hearing the roar of that purr. Keep up the great work Jake, This brought back some memories. Looking forward to more to come. From kiwi land.
That would have been cool I havnt seen a 12v71 in person yet! That would have been a rare machine if there was only two in nz you were lucky that one was local. New Zealand had a big 100 year kenworth show somewhere not too long ago was that anywhere near you? Thanks for watching mate!
Hey Matty ain’t that the truth! Atleast this has a bunk to lie down in at the end of the day, if you were in a day cab you’d be sleeping across the seats😂
Hi Jake 2 more early trucks kept out of scrap pile, the cab over is in better condition but the 923 is the better choice for restoring, but the cab will try out the best sheet metal workers, as rust will be deeper the skin deep, but basic fabrication to rebuild frame
Hi Jake that looks like a win. Door latch must not work on the little cab over. Sounded like a good runner tho. Looked like you were having fun running around the paddock there. Have a great day
Hey mate nah it doesn’t have door latches or handles at all so it kept swinging open and the seat wasn’t bolted in so I was trying not to fall out and have the truck take off without me😂 cheers you too mate!
Hi Jake another great video and it's great to see the Kenworth moving under it's own steam. I know of another one that you could get parts from to do that one up in north Queensland. Love it's sound. If you have an email address I'll send you pictures of my father's old Kenworth's he had?
Hey mate what specs is the truck you’re referring to? Sure thing my email is jkpplanthire@gmail.com would love to see some pics of his old truck! Cheers
It go's to prove that Australian people have the drive It's a shame our governments can't give us a chance as small micro businesses We need Australian to start manufacturing again Australian owned companies not offshore multi national giants that get subsidies by our taxes Keep the dream ✨️ ✨️alive 👍🇦🇺
That’s very true mate, I have been trying to get some reproduction parts made and there is no options in Australia anymore the only options are all overseas. It’s a real shame and I try to do as much as I can myself but some things just can’t be made in Aus anymore! Thanks mate I’ll keep at it👌🏻
The better engine for that single drive would be a 6-71T. Better on fuel and a bit quieter. What's happening with this KW Jake? It needs lots of work I just hate those trucks ending up in wrecking yards.
I have a 6-71t in the shed but at this stage that engine is going to go into my needle nose kenworth! I won’t wreck this truck or scrap it I can’t bring myself to do that! If I don’t do anything with it I’ll sell it to someone who will but I may also build somthing out of it aswell
@@dieseldownunder. Thanks for the update. You've got some classic KWs there. Nice to know there in safe hands. Good use of the fork when raising the cab as they can sometimes shear off the mounts and end up on the floor. I want my next project to be a tandem drive anyway as I had a single drive Atkinson half sleeper. That got lost in a property dispute. Good luck with your channel.
I drove a 871 with 6 Donaldson straight through to Canberra from Gladstone and I wentbdeathnmy earsvwouldnt stor ringing for 7;days ,,,And I’m not a fan of 871 to noisy drives me mad my 25 centsvwortkm👊🇺🇸🥶🥶😀
Yep it’s sad when things get left to rust that badly! It’s still fixable I’ll be able to strip the cab down to its frame and build it back up. Thanks for watching
Good Video Jake, you & your Dad did well to get that old girl running again, hopefully someone will take her on & do right by her 👍

Gday Jake, back in the day you’d no you done a trip in that, it would be as rough as hessian undies mate, good to see it driving again, cheers
Hey Matty ain’t that the truth! Atleast this has a bunk to lie down in at the end of the day, if you were in a day cab you’d be sleeping across the seats😂
My first truck I started driving on the high was a 1970 cabover 8v71n bogie drive it was painted the same as that one to in primer
Would have been a fun truck to be learning to drive in!

You do all the driving you dad a good camera man😂😂
Haha yep not sure he likes being the camera man but he does a good job!
The cows don’t like screaming jimmy 😂😂
No they didn’t I only realised when I went back and watched the video I didn’t mean to scare them but probably abit too noisy for them😂
Right hand drive .......send it over here to Aus mate
Haha it’s already in aus I’m in Victoria to be exact

Crapover needs to be sold to some lucky punter and the W900 next I think!
I do agree with you there if the engine run in the w900 the cabover will most likely go
just a bit of slobber out of the exhaust. all good
She would make a sweet burnout truck

Surprised to see rust issues arent just a north east american thing. Lotta good old iron been victimized, and gone to scrap because of it.
Yep it’s sad when things get left to rust that badly! It’s still fixable I’ll be able to strip the cab down to its frame and build it back up.
Thanks for watching
Burnout truck
Tatura sorry
