  • Welcome to the channel everyone, if you're new here my name's Jake and in this episode I attempt to start this Ford Louisville Lnt9000 with a Detroit 6v92 to see if the engine is a good candidate for my 1973 Kenworth W925 project truck

    I hope you dedicate yourself to learning all that you can about 2-stroke Detroit engines. There’s just not many young mechanics who really know how to service and repair them. If you get the reputation for being good at working on them you will be in demand. There’s still millions of them running boats, generators, pumps and classic trucks. Anyone can repair a 4-stroke but fewer and fewer men really know the 2-stroke engines. The guys who do are in demand and will be for the foreseeable future.

      Thanks mate I’ve got a lot to learn but the more I can learn the better! Most the blokes who really know them are getting ready for retirement now sadly

      @@dieseldownunder. they are pretty simple, make sure the return line is unrestricted and flowing well, even a return line cooler is a good idea if running in really hot conditions and just fuck around with the buffer screw a bit, usually all they need :), do you know what size injectors ???, said 85 i think, 90 or 95 , even 100 might make it bark and roll some coal
      I wasn't a fully trained fitter but was a remote area driller so basically had to fix stuff with fuckall spares around :)

      @@dieseldownunder. yeah,
      I used to have a thick plastic cutting board ready ,
      usually they will go for a long time coz exhaust valve float stops em going too insane, put some chevy petrol (cant remember which ones) springs in then it can be pretty spectacular :):):), love your work, had a great collection of 2 strokes but ended up disabled and lost my industrial block but slowly collecting again, latest is a 1980 Ingersoll rand spiroflo compressor with a 6V71, also recently got a early 90s DETCO 300kv genny with original 75 engine hours, 6V92T and bonus 1500 litres of diesel for fuckall, ex red cross blood banks backup, gotta have a win sometime :):):)
      all the best for your project, will be following,
      plenty of people ask me why I love "that rusty old junk" and I say coz they won WW2 and built western civilisation, I see them the same as an old torana, etc :):):)👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

    Detroits are runners, not much will keep them from running. I have a 6v92TA in my motorhome, quite a few Detroit videos on my channel as well. I am no expert but I have been tinkering with them for a while. The tags on those injectors often do not get changed when they get rebuilt, you can put internals in the injectors to pretty much make any injector you want. That fella Adrian is the real deal, I have seen him on Dangar Stu’s channel, lots of good info from that fella!

    • @dieseldownunder.
      @dieseldownunder.  Год назад +2

      That seems to be true so far mate both of the ones I’ve started so far have sat for a long time and really didn’t take much work to get running again, that’s good to know I’ll check out your channel the more I can learn off of everyone the better! That makes sense thanks for the info I’ll keep an eye out for that I hadn’t thought about people changing the injector configuration but not the tags

    Hi Jake, I don't mind the longer vids I can see progress working in ur favour, rather than 25 min snapshots but maybe that's just me. I also sub to a channel in the States somewhere (i think ?) The O'l 2 Stroker. I watch Wayne frig around with some v12's in different bits of gear, a little bit like yourself. Have a captain cook if you get a chance. I'm sure he would converse. :)

      @dieseldownunder.  Год назад +1

      Hey mate thankyou it’s good to hear the longer vids arnt too boring, a lot of the diagnostic and mechanical work takes a lot longer so they are usually longer videos where removing an engine ect are usually 25-30 minutes, yes I watch ol 2 stroker he’s great entertainment! I think he’s somewhere in New York maybe? Once I get abit more popular on here hopefully I can have a chat to the more well known blokes that would be really cool!

    Re using old head bolts , I've learnt to spend a little money buy new bolts and save yourself the head ache of breaking or streatching old bolts on tension and then all the time to remove heads esp in tight spot like this LNT ,

    • @dieseldownunder.
      @dieseldownunder.  Год назад +2

      I agree 100% I always try to use new head bolts where I can unless I know they have only been tensioned once, but on old engines like this who knows how many’s times they have been used! So I will be sure to use new ones when the time comes.
      Cheers

    If ya going to restore the S2 or W, go all out and rebuild the engine before fitting it up...
    also as someone else said, go with new head studs

    • @dieseldownunder.
      @dieseldownunder.  Год назад

      Thanks mate! The s2 I will go all out on and do the engine and anything else that needs doing as I may sell it once it’s finished, the W I will put the engine out of the blue chassis in it as it is and fix things as required just so I can have it on the road abit sooner.
      And yes I agree new head bolts in the long run saves a lot of effort

      I’d say the rh side head is original and the left hand side has been replaced with a head from another engine and they just swapped the complete head, I’m unsure what the letters mean though
