Albion Clydesdale truck. LAD Cab (4K)

- Опубликовано: 5 мар 2024
- In this episode we attempt to use our new addition, an Albion Clydesdale diesel truck. It broke down off camera before this episode was filmed so we go and attempt to get it going again. We changed fuel filters and prime the fuel system. We then go to fill the radiator with water only to have it all run back out underneath. I then remove radiator to reveal a rotted out plate on the engine block. Once repaired, I then use it to cart son loads of green waste around my property. Come along for some mechanical repairs as well as a cab ride in the truck and in the tractor. #olddiesel #tractor #diesel #mechanical #leyland #albion #british #britishmade #lorry #dodge #tipper#4k #4kstatusvideo #4kvideo

WOW, Steve, you've had 50 years of memories come flooding back for me. I started working on these old girls in 1974 at the age of 16. I wish I was closer as I have a lot of old tools as back then I had to have Whitworth, AF, and Metric just to work on Leyland trucks and buses. Great video mate, these old trucks take a lot to kill them, lol.
Hi Stuart sorry for late reply. I’m glad it brought you back good memories and those tools would be very interesting
Here across the ditch back in the 60's and 70's the 400s would output anything in its class. TK Bedfords even pull logs out of the Bush with a jinker pole up their arse. Love that old gear, takes me back. Don't know that I'd wanna be driving it anymore. After 52 years behind the wheel I'm happy with power/air everything and smartshift 😊
Hi Jimmy. Sorry for the late reply. I do believe they went well mate. I’ve never had one on the road but have heard it.
Yes she doesn’t have the comfort of the late model equipment
Takes me back a year or two, maybe 1968 / 69..I drove one of these brand new, a three axle Reever with a truckmixer on the back. The company I worked for made the mixers and I demonstrated one for a few months. I could add a pic if it was possible.
Hi mate sorry for the late reply. It’s great that it takes you back and I would be interested in seeing it. You can always email it to me. Address in channel description
Drove a Leyland Retriever once, many years ago, had a garbage compactor on the back, my brother repaired the compactor. Had the mighty Leyland 600. This video certainly takes me back.
Hi mate great stuff. I’m glad it took you back. Hopefully they are good memories
Steve, they don't make grills like that anymore. So easy to put on and off and all metal. Great truck, ugly but beautiful nose. I love the look. Basic utility. Not a bunch of sensors, relays and environmental bull shit. Great video, Be safe, Jim
Hi Jim. Sorry for the late response. No they don’t. They all have plastic clips that snap when you remove them. It sure is ugly mate but nice. There’s no technology at all on this one and that’s how I like it. All the best Jim
Good to see the old LAD working away. One thing you may or may not know, in some of them, there was a screw in brass tiny filter screwed in to the banjo bolt on the suction side of lift pump, doesnt take much to block it, or if its got a small leaf in there itll prime slowly and when you give it the meat and potatoes itll suck the leaf and wrap around filter and stop it, messes with your head. something to look at .......
Hi John. Yes mate she’s still going and I’m very happy with it. No I didn’t know that about these pumps but I am familiar with them on the inlet, like the secret little bugger on the CAV rotary pumps. The fuel system has needed bleed the last few times I’ve used it since this so I’m thinking it’s getting sir from somewhere
hey Steve, I hope those beers are nice and cold, enjoy
Hi Anthony, sorry for the late reply. Yes mate they were lovely and cold, and so were all the ones since
8:43 "take the cab off it to get the filter out" ...sounds just like an old Landrover !.
It was a bit like that yes
Thanks!
Hi Andrew. I can’t thank you enough mate. Thanks for watching also and glad you liked it
I did that with my brief and it was outa date by 3 weeks, 😊 so your not the only one Steve. Don't bash yourself to much. We're only human.
Hi Joe. Yes it’s easily done mate. I had no idea it was out
Most of the time when I needa hammer whatever I can grab becomes the hammer... Sometimes only once..lol
Away from the workshop like I was mate, whatever works, works!😅😅
Gotta love the background noise old girl working hard cheers mate
New sub from the UK, this looks a great video, looking forwars to watching this. All the best.
Hi mate thanks for the sub. There’s plenty of others to watch also and plenty to come
Well the Albion did great after you got the water pump, plate, and coolant issue sorted out Steve! You know that sorta horizontal part of the gear shift rod looks like a round plate and bit of exh tube could be welded on to make up a cold snack holder... 8^) might be the next Big Thing! Cheers!
Hold it a minute Steve, 40 degrees at 9 O'clock that is hot mate, you should try England in March with 5 degrees at 9.00 am that's normal here.
Yes James that’s right mate. It’s hot alright. Getting a tad cooler now but still up there. It’s hard to believe 5 degrees in March.
Hope your channel continues to grow. Keep up the good work
Thank you Joseph. Time will tell. It’s slowly growing
Great stuff again. The generator is just there to tension the belt😀 The Acco was definitely giving you the hard stare.
Hi Paul. Yes mate I’m not sir that she likes it
Man it’s green there, looks like the middle of august, minus the 40 degree day lol. Glad she’s running again
It’s very green mate yes and very sticky with the hot weather and rain every second day. She’s going again indeed
hi there, greetings from England, i grew up with these lorries, some had a smaller door, the cab was made by Motor Panels in coventry, known as the LAD cab, might be an idea to have an oil change and attend to the non standard air cleaner, still a lot of work if you want it to be prestine,
Hi Peter thanks for this information. I never knew the mob that built the cab. Yes now that it’s all up and going I need to service it. That will be another video. The air cleaner would be ok but it’s a bit rough in the way it clips together
Awesome afternoon brother and sister from another country yall are doing an awesome job at your videos brother and sister !!! Yall are awesome and try to share as much as I can pray yall have an awesome evening !!! Still like that Ole gal she is a gem !!!!
Glad to see you got the old Albion running again, the NA Leylands are pretty hard to kill although the later turbo ones really don't like getting hot (blew up at least 1 680 in my time in the bus industry).
The more I see this one the more it reminds me of 1 that was running around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie in the 80's, same colour scheme but had a 2 way gate on the box so the bloke who owned it could load an old wheeled Bobcat into it for residential landscape work.
Hi Robert. I’m glad it’s going too mate. Very happy with it.
Maybe they were harder to cool in a bus do you think? Just a thought.
It could have been the same one. I don’t remember where he said it came from originally. It may well be it
Crikey Steve Mate this Job Needed Toasted Cheese and Vegimite Sandwhichs a couple of Stubbies To relax . scotlands finest
Hi Brett, we had a few mate don’t worry about that. They went down nicely after that hot morning repairing the water pump
Bloody hell, that escalate mate. From filters to fingering the front end!. Hahaha.
It's mint the Albion is fitting in well with the fleet.
Dint worry, my old Landy has A/F, Whitworth, Met, BA and BSP to keep me guessing.
Wasn't as confusing as a neighbour asking for help with the suspension on his 0 something VW suspension bolts that his metric sockets wouldn't grip. Turns out 5/8 A/F was perfect.🤔
Bloody vehicles😆
Good call on putting your logo on the back of your shirts. Working on the Landy, someone saw the tractor and asked about it.
So I told him how mint the channel and SPDU team is, hopefully you have at least so more views if not another sub.👍🏻
Hi mate sorry for late reply. I’m glad you helped your neighbour out and informed him about us. Hopefully the hooer will come over and have a look. Well played mate
Awesome 😎
Hi Steve love the malt sandwich in hand while driving the old girl cheers mate
Hi mate fantastic stuff thanks for reaching out. It’s a great way to spend Saturdays
👍👍
ABC diesels have always been very helpful with getting bits for my 1981 Leyland Mastiff and being in Vic they were still quick to send stuff down when I needed it in a pinch to keep it working. Also love the old LAD cab 👍
Hi James. Yes mate that’s great. I was very happy with his service. Hood to see a Mastiff still working too mate
Gday Steve, that Albion is a bloody gem and to still buy parts for is fantastic, I’ve often thought about buying a truck as a toy and putting it on club plates but to find the right one is another thing, you might have to yell out when you do that hard stand, great episode mate, cheers
Hi Matty thanks mate. Yes i think you should get one. It’s a fairly easy process once you have the truck itself. That’s the hard part.
About 2-3 weeks for the hard stand, still gets some stuff out of the way. It sounds like you want to do the carting mate with the Albion?
@@stevesplacedownunder always been a Mack man at heart😂
@@MattysWorkshop I have a Mack you can use but she’s a handful.
@@stevesplacedownunder jobs right mate, up for a challenge
@MattysWorkshop she’s certainly that mate. It needs a treadle valve which I have. If that was fitted she’d be a lot better. The brakes are all dragging on it
Hi Steve, I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one that goes to do one repair and you find more that has to be done. That Albion looks like it's a bloody good truck for it's age, I don't think the modern stuff will last that long. One good thing about Pommie gear is that companies are making replacement parts [except for D series] at reasonable prices.
Hi Adrian. No mate that’s right. It’s how it is here at my place. Especially on the stuff I buy because I get it so cheap it all needs a lot of work. It’s in brilliant condition mate. Exceptional really for its age. I’m very happy with it. I’ve been using it a bit off camera too. The parts were very cheap and here in record time. I haven’t played with much pommie stuff so far but will be more and more I’d imagine
Another great video! 2 videos per week would be awesome. Would love to see you go full time with this channel. Thanks, Steve.
I’m going to try 2 mate but it will catch up quickly when I’m mostly filming one a week. See how we go. I’d love to do it full time. There would be bulk content then and more restoration stuff. Just a distant dream at the moment though mate.
Hi Steve ,, them old girls did a lot of work in their day ,,
Hi Russel yes mate I’m sure they did. This one certainly seems to have
Nice one Steve, I've be waiting to see this little beauty in action. thanks mate.
Hi John my pleasure mate
Well Steve, as usual i watched you from go to wo and enjoyed every bit cobber. Just love your content and the Aussie way in witch you deliver it. All the best to you and yours and the billy lids mate. See you on the next one.🤠
I love it how you watch the lot mate. It’s magnificent and keeps me going. I like to put my own way of delivering it, a bit different to the American style channel that got me into it. Be yourself and people will like it. All the best to you and your missus Daryl
Great movie. You say you spend a lot of time at work. Is there so much work for you or do you pay little per hour? Tell me when it will be possible to trim the hat? And what do you plan to do next with Zetor 4911? Because I'm very interested in it :).
Brilliant mate 🍻
Thanks Kory. All the best mate
I'm with you on the concessional Rego!
I've got an XB in WA on club Rego, so it's about $150 a year for 30 days use, not incl club days. Club membership at $40 a year. And insurance is only about $100 a year, insured for 70k. Definitely a win!
Hi Callum yes mate it’s great. I had an XB on it also. A GS XB 1973. I sold it back to the bloke I got it off to build my veranda on my house. Great stuff mate well done. Great cars
Getting there bud my projects
Nice one Steve , great to see you driving the Albion , like you said there’s a lot happening. My dad must have loved driving his . On another note your government must have learned off of ours ……taxing the air we breathe 😢
Thanks Chris. Yes mate always a lot happening. I don’t get a second to rest. I’m sure your dad loved it mate. I love this one.
The tax is ridiculous mate. I could go on about it all day. Our lives are basically on hold. Just paying bills and working. We used to go away twice a year because I was working the same but the money went a lot further. Now we are wondering if we should or not.
☺️
😀
tight old spot to get the diesel filter out.. sort of place I like being in with the Mrs!
It looks easy mate until I tried to change and film it😅
Another great video Steve,
From kiwi land.
Thanks as always Alan
Love from the uk Steve , don’t change just more iff and adapt do they say lol . Go easy chief
Thanks Ben many happy returns mate. I won’t be changing. There’s plenty more to come yet
If I was there I would hold that cold snack for you but you might get it back empty. Waiting for the day when I can enjoy one again in person with you and your Dad.
Hi mate. It will hopefully happen again. As I grow I’m getting more keen to meet more creators and like minded people. It’s a great thing
I never ever wear light colored clothing....I've only gota walk out the door and im covered in oil, grease and dirt!😂
No mate I’m the same. I know what you mean
Hi Steve 40 years and classed as historic vehicles in the uk mate 👍 vid
Hi Mate that’s good really. They are getting old by that stage
👍
As a Brit I am delighted that the Clydesdale has emphatically proven its usefulness. I wonder if a working example of your Austin would also be handier than its diminutive size would suggest.
Hi Neil. Yes a smaller one would be good also indeed, but I think that’s what that tipper trailer will come in handy that I have
Love the older gear. I’ve got an 84 Hino FF at work. No emissions crap or electronics. Just a bit more power would be nice at times
Hi Matt. I do too. The Japanese stuff has always been underpowered but very reliable trucks.
the lack of power is what keeps em going, not a whole lot going on inside those cylinders compared to modern diesels. @@stevesplacedownunder
Good video mate ! You covered a lot in this one . Good the old Albion was not hurt with the coolant leak . I know what you mean about taxes , just doesn't seem right sometimes. I even read an article about the alcohol tax that just went into effect in Australia in our news here , believe me Steve its the same here as far as taxes . I did want ask a question though . On your rego on your cars and trucks does that include insurance on your vehicles ? Interesting way to split the gears on the Albion , first time I have seen that . Thats what sets you apart from a lot of the others Steve , the details that you put in . Scott 🌵
Hi Scott. No it wasn’t hurt thankfully.
The tax is out of control. We are ripped blind mate.
To get rego here we first need to buy a CTP green slip. Compulsory Third Party. It covers for injury but nothing else. We then need to buy other insurance. Can get a minimum one that will cover damage to the other persons vehicle or one that will cover everything. Depends on how much you want to spend.
Fab' truck... but I have to ask... What on earth is that fluctuating high pitched alien sound- and is it as
loud as the camera suggests !?
It is cicadas. A very noisy insect that fill the trees here. It can’t be helped. I couldn’t film without it
@@stevesplacedownunder Extraordinary ! It seemed so loud ! Not that I'm complaining- I was just curious :)
@@zaneclone it’s not as noticeable until you hear it through the camera.
Everything is a hammer lol
In the bush it certainly is
brilliant vid steve! whats that beer your drinking? just curious uk here!
Hi Gerald thanks mate. It’s a mid strength made here in Australia. The brew it up in Queensland. I used to only drink full strength but I’m on this now because I can have a few more and still be okay when I get back to the house
Was going to suggest leaving a slasher or something on the rear of the NH to aid stability
We had it on there for a long while and it did help, but it got in the way doing one job so we put it on the zetor so we could keep using it
@stevesplacedownunder yeah i could imagine it would.. what about a big drum full of cement with hitch pins or something like that.. love the vid.. I'm beginning to wonder which if your trucks is the hardest to drive 😅
Victoria is 25 uears. We have 45 or 90 day permit.
Yeah I thought so mate. It’s a great thing
I wonder if it's a Wollongong truck owned by a bloke named Len Sandy I suppose we will never know
Hi Dave. It’s possible it was. I can always ask the bloke I got it off. I can’t remember where he got it from
What brand of tool do you prefer
Hi Jim. I use T and E. They are good and reasonable prices and if needed to replace or add to the kit it’s readily available through our supplier. Not the best in the world but had them now for 24 years and seem ok. Sorry for late reply
Made vids try run my Evo rush keeps dieing not ide maybe it's tunning problem or glow plug starter keep it running
It can be lift pump or sucking air
Yeah it could be. It’s been hard to start since too so I will look into it further
Is the lever at the back of the cab for 2 speed axle or diff lock?
It’s a splitter for the transmission. Can split each of the 6 main gears
Ah that's interesting, I didn't expect a smaller truck like that to be specced with a splitter. I've enjoyed hearing and seeing the Albion still working. I live in Scotland, just 5 minutes from the Albion factory where your lorry would have been built.
@@davidwebster3519 yes mate it does. The later models were air split 12 speed. That’s interesting that you live near where it was built. Great stuff
Hi Steve is there a link to check the merchandise ,T shirts etc out and how to purchase mate??
Gday mate, there is a link on my RUclips page that will take you to the website. but if that doesn't work the page is www.stevesplacedownunder.com.
11/16 whitworth would be 15mm
Thank you mate
Lucky you don't smoke more tax.
No mate I certainly couldn’t afford to do that
What does LAD cab mean? I watched right the way thru but must have had the mrs pipe up at that particular moment
It means Leyland, Albion, Dodge. They all use the same cab
I need to fix up the carson 1/8 needs an air filter wires tied battery pack s do fix up starter box wired up need spur gear on it Carson road street fighter 1/8 let know of know shell that fit it
Fan mate I need to catch up on your vids
Me too Steve. I hate arrogent people too.
Nothing worse Colin and no need for it mate
What is that terrible sss sizzling sound. I switched to watch another project. The menace noise is earache.
That menace noise are cicadas, a insect 🦟 here in Australia can’t control the wildlife mate.
I need a distraction from the potato joe Biden state of the union ramblings
Hi Kraig hopefully this was it mate
