I say fix it up! I think she’ll clean up really nicely!
I agree. I think it's got some life left in it still. Thanks for watching!
The 300 6 is such a great engine. A torque monster. Good score!
They are work horses for sure. Thanks for watching!
That engine is probably one of the best motors Ford ever made. I believe that it was originally designed to be put in tractors. I have a 1982 stepside with the same engine. I love that truck, it's like stepping back in time!
It's a helluva engine for sure. I love me some old trucks. Thanks for watching!
in a quiet night when the wind isn't blowing, I can hear my 86 150 rusting......
I hear a lot of rust out back in death row. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
the plug by the distributor is to reset the timing back to factory timing, to adjust the timing you have to unplug that connector then adjust it and plug it back in once the timing is set to where you want it.
Thanks for the info! Appreciate it. Antique electronics are fun! 🤣
Fix it up, it’s nice enough. It could be an awesome daily driver for someone, maybe even that oldest boy of yours.
Not for him! He already wants all the junk I bring home. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
The 300 is a good motor and a stump puller.
They do tend to be torque monsters. Thanks for watching!
Love how optimistic you are about that ford truck.😂 But, you did get it to run! The yellow Truck is still my favorite.
I didn't wanna get too outta hand with my mouth and Ford's. 🤣 They yellow truck is my favorite for sure too. Thanks for watching!
Awesome found an 85 Ford F-150 bullnose been tinkering with for a few months great information just having small difficulties awesome videos
Glad to hear there's other folks out there who like junk like me. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
85 you say? Ditch the feedback carb if it’s got it. JUNK!!!!! much better without it
you had me at bullnose. i have 2 of the stepsides "flaresides". working on the 81 currently.
I'm more of a squarbody kinda guy, but I appreciate all the old trucks. Thanks for watching!
Those are pretty good old Pickups
It's not bad honestly. Dunno if I'm going to replace the hanger and cross members or just fix the brakes and balancer. We shall see in part 2. Thanks for watching as always!
My first truck was an 86 F150 with the 300 six. It have over 400k on her when I sold it to a buddy and he drove it for another 5 years after that. Best motor Ford ever built.
When I was a kid I worked on a dairy farm that had this same truck but with a stick. I have fond memories of driving around fields picking up hay bales 30 years ago with it. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage lol yeah mine had a granny 4 speed in it. I bought an 87 right after that same drivetrain and it had 360.000 on it when I got rid of it. I still own a 78 three on the tree.
@@ko4otv43 this makes me feel very old. 🤣
@@MyLegacyGarage 😅😅😅 I know man. Nothing beats the good ole days
Just came across your channel and love the fact that you are training those boy's how to work on stuff like that. Keep bringing them up with pride and pass on the knowledge. I'll keep watching and enjoying your channel, Thanks for the good content.
Thank u so much for the support! Hopefully some of the more useful information in my head rubs off on the boys. The older one just got his permit this week. Pray for me!
Great to see ya back
I’m looking forward to this one but later
World Cup final at the moment
Hope ya enjoy both!
Nice old Ford well worth the time and effort to fix up
I'm looking forward to tinkering with it and making a part 2. Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage love your content and it’s nice to see the boys working with you
@@ToddMills801 nice to see them showing some interest and earning their keep 🤣
Not excited about an 84 300/6. You’re crazy. I’d be beyond excited! You know it’s a runner
That's about all she had going for her unfortunately. Thanks for watching!
7:50 haven’t watched the rest of the vid so dunno if you ended up figuring it out but that’s basically the SPOUT wire that allows the computer to control ignition advance. it doesn’t need to be hooked up for it to run.
Thanks for the info! I'm used to vacuum advance so this computer stuff confuses me. Too many wires. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage yeah same here lol. i had to figure out what all that computer bs did on my 86 parts truck to get it to run. luckily those trucks don’t really need a computer to run. you can modify that carb to run just fine without the computer controlling it and as far as ignition goes it can run fine with the stock distributor but it just won’t have any advance with no computer. slapping an older style distributor with mechanical advance in it will fix that problem.
Nice find there. Great to see you back.
Thanks for coming by Roy! Appreciate the support as always. 👍
Yeah, I was typing that harmonic balancer problem and you mentioned it about two seconds later. For my vote I say fix the balancer, fix the brakes, pressure wash it, and send it down the road. Then put the money into something more deserving.
I'm definitely gonna do a part 2 and I'm thinking it'll go something exactly like that. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
I really like this channel. A nice guy doing interesting things. The subscription numbers will rise slowly and then rocket... Well done. 🇬🇧👍
Thanks we appreciate the support! Now all we gotta do is find time to upload regularly. 🤣 Merry Christmas!
Glad to see another First On Race Day vehicle. Would like to see it fixed up. Love those straight 6 engines. Merry Christmas to you and your family
I figured I couldn't go wrong with a scrap value purchase. I'm pleasantly surprised with it's overall condition. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!
Inline 6..... Chevy had the strait six, Mopar had the slant 6 and Ford had the Inline 6.
Gotta love those hats. Looks like a restoration in the making.
I dunno about a restoration but I'm betting there'll be a part 2. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Its crazy how rusty vehicles get out there. Here in California bullnoses are rust free in the Central Valley
We are cursed to be sure. Saw a no nonsense know how video earlier this week with a rock solid square body from out west. Very big jealous over here! Thanks for watching!
Good to see you back it's strange I was just scrolling through and I never got a notification for this and it's set for your Channel must be something up with RUclips
They tend to reward channels that post on a consistent schedule which we haven't been so they probably decided not everyone needed to know a video came out. 🙄 Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
Excellent video :) a late friend of family he had 1985 Ford 1/2 Forset Green body with Beige Interior, 302 V8 4 barrel , dual exhaust, Power Steering also Brakes, Air Conditioning, Cruise Control, Tilt Steering, Am/Fm Cassette, one fuel tank , 377 rear , disk brakes front , drums on back , Slide back window ,Transmission not sure type but had 3 foward gears in 3 was Overdrive and Reverse type but had Racing Clutch! Was Powerfull rig when had he bought brand new at Ford dealership also ordered daul exhaust, trailer package for heavy duty rad plus hitch back then & want by off but his truck was to far going to fix up! Yes seen pulley happen that way plus also key way on Crankshaft pulley to plus time chain snap didn't snap but did too eventually! Also Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2023 Chad to your family's & friends too plus RUclips Viewers too! Also haven't heard on RUclips videos in awhile and glad found today to again Lol! Be interesting that truck motor is 250 or 300 on cylinder motor that truck has to and fix up to shouldn't take much fix up !
It's in overall decent shape and we r gonna do a part 2 on it. We'll see how far we go with it. Definitely need to address the balancer and brakes at a minimum. As always thanks for watching! Merry Christmas!
@@MyLegacyGarage excellent to hear!
Yeah I had to 97 civic that the previous owner gave up on. Said he had put a new harmonic balancer on it and then it got a parasitic draw somehow.
What actually happened is he sheared the crank bolt. Since nothing was turning, the battery died. I had to weld a longer bolt on to extract the broken one. He used a zinc bolt to hold the crank pulley on (presumably because he didn't want to spend $15 on the correct replacement).
Somebody else's problems seem to be a theme for me. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
I've got a 88 f250 version of this truck with the 351w and its rotting in the inner cab corner as well.
Those 300 6 cylinders are Awesome in trucks and are more like tractors. My buddy pulls 6000lb around with a 86 f150 regularly with a few upgrades to the 300.
That's a weird place to rot. 🤣 There'll be a part 2 and we'll see what we can do with the poor old 300. Thanks for watching!
Fix it man fix it my favorite kind of truck. Merry Christmas
I'm leaning that way. Not sure how far it'll go but I imagine there will be a part two on this one. Thanks for watching!
I had one of those, same year same motor. It was a damn dependable truck.
I know somebody who bought one new and it's still their daily driver. 👍
Lucky for you my 1984 f150’s frame is cracked and I got to get everything off the frame and put it on the new one
This one has a new video coming out soon where I discovered a lot more frame rot and pronounced it a parts truck. 😢
That wire is the spark advance, it’s called the spout wire ,
Dang computer stuff. In my day it was just a simple vacuum line. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage your welcome, I like the videos
😮cool old truck
Not bad eh! Thanks for watching!
Man if this truck were in Virginia it would be parts, good dash and seat, doors looked okay, drivetrain of course, maybe a few other pieces, but we wouldn't really mess with a vehicle this rotten, state inspector see that frame and you'd fail instantly. Cool old truck though, always liked the bullnose Ford's, been looking for a bullnose parts truck to swap my '93 F150 to a bullnose front end just for giggles.
I've bought way rustier garbage for sure. 🤣 It's salvageable though. Could be made a driver without too much work. I've replaced so many spring hangers in square bodies from when I lived in PA that sorta stuff doesn't phase me. Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage Yeah I think it's funny, up in PA this is normal, meanwhile y'all come down here and see a rust free truck and lose your minds haha! I see that kind of rust and run away, fast.
It’s hard enough to find this things anywhere in VA… I’m out around Richmond, only managed to find one ‘86 to salvage for parts. Basically doing a full run down on my 302 to figure out why it idles so horribly. Gonna be checking compression and scared what I’ll find.
@@GetTheFO Easier to find this stuff west of Harrisonburg, your side of the state seems to have done away with most older vehicles.
I have my Dad's '86 5 liter, and pretty good truck but feul pump in tank went out, expensive to fix.
A lot more than the old school block mounted pumpers. 🤣
loved the video man. I have a 1994 ford f 150 with a 5.0, and was wondering how you hooked up the boat pump. My truck cranks but it won't start. I wanna test it your way with the boat pump to see if the fuel system is the problem. Great video by the way
Thanks for watching appreciate the support. I just popped the rubber line between the frame line and fuel pump and hooked the boat tank to the fuel pump. Not sure how accessible that'll be on the 302 but it wasn't bad on the 351 I had a few months ago.
Bypass your tank switch if u have 2 tanks, it just went out in mine yesterday! Fixed in 5 minutes!
Not sure if it has two tanks actually. Good thought I'll be sure to check out. Thanks for watching!
Sounds like my 86 F-150 4x4 even the rattle of the air cleaner.
Not much rust on mine being form Arkansas.
Must be nice. We aren't really in the rust belt but still get the rust. Total drag. Thanks for watching!
I just thought I would let you know, I noticed you had your winch appeared to be tight holding tintion on the truck. I have read that tha would ware out the drum fast from th bouncing of the truck. Just some frindly advice.
I always crank the straps down right enough to take the tension off it. Appreciate the advice though. Thanks for watching!
There you go, now you got a good truck LOL
Oh and I had a Square body Chevy I loved but it didn't have any rockers any more, again, LOL
I'm not sure square bodies come from the factory with rockers. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
These Bullnose and Bricknose Fords are becoming a popular build, atleast out here in the West and Southwest because they are the last of the affordable classic trucks. You can't even look at a Squarebody Chevy, OBS Chevy or a classic D-150 Dodge for less than 7 grand and you can jump into a Bull or brick nose running and driving for 2k..... I'm not a Ford guy but I just bought an 84 F150 for $1400and drove it home.... Btw that 300 inline six was not just one of the best engines Ford made but one of the best engines ever made, period.
Prices in general have gone crazy, even for junk. I was just shopping for some parts to make a part two on this truck. Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage That's true but prices have gone up so much that the regular everyday guy working 40 hours a week down at the local factory can no longer afford to build the car of their dream so they have look outside of the box. that's why guys are building cars and trucks that 10 years ago they would scoff at and wouldn;t touch with a 10 foot pole like the Bull and Brick nose Fords, along with the Smog and Malaise Era cars of the mid 70's-mid 80's.
You should’ve cracked the line from the fuel pump to the carburetor. Those are the most overlooked parts when trying to get an engine to run
I usually cut them actually. The tank didn't smell bad though so I decided to let it ride. Thanks for watching!
Merry Christmas to you all. I would fix it up .
Merry Christmas to y'all too! Thanks for watching!
good score
Not bad for basically scrap value for sure. Thanks for watching!
Ok, say bye bye to the 2 barrel carb, replace with offenhouser 4 barrel intake, edelbrock 500 carb, say bye bye to exhaust manifold with a hooker header for a ford 300 6 cylinder and last but not least a msd 6 a ignition system and now you got a hot 6 banger
At this point I'd settle for a functional water pump and brakes. 🤣 There's gonna be a part 2. We'll see how far we go with it. Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage the 6 banger in the truck if it’s tuned right has more torque than a 5.0 of that era, and the cost to improve the 6 banger is fairly cheap
@@Generalpurpose702 how bad do you think I'd get crucified if I LS swapped it? 🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@MyLegacyGarage nascar that sucker then, you all ready have to replace the rear shackles, lower kit those, lower front springs, a decently used Chevy 6.0 and some headers and borla xr1 race mufflers and that will be a bad ass truck, get some NASCAR black rims and Goodyear nascar tires, and paint the truck primer black
After the primer, then get a Napa chase Elliot wrap on the truck
I would rather have that 300 6 cylinder than the 302 . Especially if it had a 4 speed manual.
Agreed 👍 Thanks for watching!
I’d fix it up this is what I’m wanting to get if I can ever come up with the money to get one love these trucks I had a 86 awhile back and made a mistake of getting rid of it and next time I seen it it was in the junkyard all apart I knew it was mine cause I had ghost flames on it would love to see this one on the road again don’t make the same mistake I did and if I can get another one I’m going to try to hang on to it
It's still sitting out back as a someday project. I agree it deserves to be saved. Thanks for watching!
Glad to hear that I hope it does get done and all done right would love to see it on RUclips again being done I subscribed so I can be watching for new videos and thank you for responding to me and letting me know
Had this happen to me. Broken crankat the first journal.
Thankfully not that bad though the balancers are not cheap. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
She runs damn good
Sure does. Wants to live in some fashion or another. Thanks for watching!
Yes it will man
It did drive to death row rather than being towed so that's a win. 👍 Thanks for watching!
definitely fix it . i have a 1983 same colour . same rust hole when you open the door
Must be a Ford thing. I'll have to see if they make a patch panel for it. Thanks for watching!
Use it as a dump run truck then when it starts to fall apart you can scrap it. Me? I would pass on it due to the rust.
She's not that bad. The square bodies I have sitting around here are worse for body rot. The spring hanger isn't such a big deal and the frame rot in the back is a fairly easy fix. She's worth giving some more life I think. Thanks for watching!
id like to see how you deal with the rust issue so yea fix it up i say 😊
It'll definitely make a return to the channel. Not sure how far we'll go with it, but it'll at least be made drive able. Thanks for watching!
I mean the wires go to the distributor, so... I'd say it's essential
It's for timing so yeah it's needed for everyday driving but it'll run without it.
@@MyLegacyGarage ah I see. I've never owned an obs so I'm looking at it from a modern mechanical perspective. I have an admiration for older vehicles. Their simplicity, (take that with a grain of salt) is one of the reasons they're becoming popular again.
Fix it up!!! It would make great content.
There's definitely gonna be a part 2. Not sure how far we will go but stay tuned. Thanks for watching!
Hello From Mark In Kentucky. I have a 1985 F-150 also with the 300 cid engine except my transmission is the New Process 435 4 speed and my truck has AC. My truck died on me earlier this year in which a local garage told me that my engine was only producing normal compression from out of 1 cylinder and the other 5 cylinders were low in compression. The garage was trying to sell me on the idea of getting a Jasper ReMan engine to replace the engine in the truck. I made the decision to have my truck hauled back home and I could make whatever decision that I wanted to make without being pressured. My contention was that my engine had great oil pressure and ran pretty smoothly for the engine being so bad all of a sudden so to speak. I was naturally curious about your 1984 truck which is the closest to my truck that I have found here on RUclips. One thing to keep in mind should you decide to replace the timing gears would be to replace the fiber timing gears with the metal timing gears like the original 300’s used to have. The metal timing gears are a bit noisy but no worries about them shattering and stopping up the pickup in the oil pump with all of the fragmentation junk. For Me, I am a firm believer in the Ford 300 inline 6 cylinder engines. The Ford 300 engines were used in many many different applications with the engines being used for both gasoline and lp gasoline in which UPS had these engines in their fleet of big brown delivery trucks for a very long period of time.
Thanks for your video and sharing your troubleshooting of your 84 Ford truck You may as well as order yourself a brand new spring hanger and shackle kit for your truck because this was very common with this body style Ford truck.
Hope that you and your family have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year coming up.
Thanks for all the info and for watching! We'll definitely do a part 2 and see how far we go. Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!
Maybe a little late but I would recommend not going with a Jasper unless you know they’ll be good on the warranty services. I’ve heard all kinds of bad things about their current QC for transmissions and motors.
@@GetTheFO The local garages really push the Jasper stuff pretty aggressively to people in my home town. I have decided to lay low and not be pushed into any rash decisions. With my truck sitting on my property, I can do as I please whenever I decide to. The facility where I retired from had on different occasions purchased 8.2 Detroit Diesel engines and they were pure junk. So Yes, I totally had that in mind regarding my decision not to make a costly mistake.
Love a 300 best motor made
They are quite the unit for sure! Thanks for watching!
The dreaded 84-86 feedback carb system. It has a cumbersome and problematic computer controlled carb. All that crap can be gutted. Do yourself a favor and rip out that wiring harness. Put an older model 300 carb on it or maybe a 2bbl, duraspark distributor and box and it will run forever.
Seemed to run ok. Haven't messed with it since we did the video but I did get a new balancer for it. We'll do a part 2 eventually. Thanks for watching!
Maybe put some coolant in it and def worth fixing 👍
I'll get some coolant in it after it has a water pump. 🤣 There'll be a part 2 so stay tuned. Thanks for watching!
