Fair play to the Stranglers for doing this song as a tribute to one of their fans who lost his life A great tune and should have been a hit back in 1977.Dave here is on top form on the keys. He is sadly missed.RIP Dave.💕
Love the Stranglers to this day. Such a brilliant band at the proto/post era when so much crappy New Wave was taking over the airwaves. I'm now 68 but still love this music. So good.
ive been into them since i was 14 they are part of my life 32years later and still going strong keep it going lads god bless jet black legend leeinblack
TonyStraightEdgeVegan face, huge Stranglers fan from the early days of pub gigs commited suicide feb77 by jumping into the river Thames, they wrote the song and put it on NMH 's album
@@d_walsh he couldn't stand it once the Stranglers gained popularity mind you,who really does...when your favourite people are suddenly appreciated by the common herd.
Whatta tune to have in your head .your blessed ..anyone who has had anyone close lost to this scourge of modern society..can.t help but b touched by this tribute . Stranglers rock on spirit of 77
Read about Dave here, www.punk77.co.uk/groups/Stranglersdagenhamdave.htm a friend of mine his local small waitrose is directly opposite where T W Studios was which was in basement and back of end of terrace shop off Fulham Palace Road, London SW6( Opposite the Shell garage ).. the first 3 Stranglers albums were recorded here with the late great Martin Rushent. It blows my mind thinking that such amazing sounds and songs were created in this back yard and also that Dagenham Dave was allowed to be present when recording Rattus ! (The Specials 1st album also recorded there and others,,,,) The Stranglers were constantly playing gigs in this area in early days at the Nashville etc ... there are listings online and sometimes once or twice a week .. you could literally go to a punk/pub rock.new wave gig every day of the week back then 76/77 onwards right up to late 80's in London....and probably Manchester/Leeds etc..
Got to say first and foremost, what a brilliant song, especially when you understand what the song is a about. I was always puzzled by the lyric (Like the howling of bulls), i always sang, Like the howling of wolves. To me i thought sounded right that way until i realized it was bulls. The stranglers always gets time on my ipod.
@@SuomiScotHey hey - In case you're interested there's a Stranglers song-by-song lyric book available in paperback by Hugh Cornwell which came out early 2000s, so its just lyrics to songs recorded up until he left the band in 1990. Great to actually read the words to 'Ugly' - one of JJB's more difficult one's to decipher...
Smiths shit morrisey feckin treehugger .sad bastard .no comparison .spouse morrisey wanna b punk .more like spoilt middle class rebel gainst mummy an daddy
Although JJ can't really sing, I think he still gets away with it; his singing voice is more unusual which makes it unique and it still fits the songs he's the lead singer in
No one plays keyboard like dave.rip.best band ever.
So great to see Jet and Dave cranking it out!

Still sounding great after all these years!
Dave was so far ahead, but now he's dead. RIP.
Bloody great tribute to a fan of the band. RIP Dagenham Dave
May the Allfather bless The Stranglers !!!...I love it since...since...
Talent. Hard work. Beyond reproach.

One of the greatest tracks they made....
not heard this version before...but my god it's great. Keeps the gritty power of the original with great vocals by JJ ...FAB BAND
my personal fav of theirs love it
I think this song has an absolutely brilliant keys solo maybe the best in all Stranglers' songs.
Great version of this! It's so touching every time I hear this song. Not many bands dedicate songs to their biggest fans.
But they are not to cry ?
whats the story behind the song?

Such a sad story. Poor dave.
Tragic, sounds like dark forces did his head in,low lives he should not have met.
I agree. I read somewhere he was a self-medicating paranoid schizophrenic. It doesn’t matter. May he Rest In Peace.
Feckin' m,arvellous
Great Version!

post psychedelic keyboard playing - ultra cool.

Finally! Someone who made the same lyric mistake as me! Bulls? Really?
