I agree...when they hired Paul Roberts I just felt it was such a shit time for the band...like they hired a really bad wedding singer. Then Baz sorted it out lol
Fan- bloody- tastic! Thanks for all the years guys. R.I.P. Jet and Dave. Can't believe I got to see the Stranglers: circa '78 Queens hotel Brisbane Queensland Australia, Aural Sculpture tour '80 something- festival hall (festering hole) Brisbane Australia, Tivoli- Brisbane Australia 2015 🤔, Triffid- Brisbane Australia 2017, April 2023 I hope.
I too was a massive Stranglers fan but I can't be the only one to see the irony in them performing "Something Better Change" 40yrs on? On saying that they're still a great band and there are not many bands today who up the anti like they do.
Trye, there aren't many other bands who've still got it after more than 45 years on like The Stranglers. Killing Joke comes to mind though, truly awesome band. Would love to see them both co-headline a festival...
i 1st heard them in 77 wen i was 13, they are still as good now as they were back then, i love every thing from sabath thru to slipknot with allsorts inbetween, oldest rocker/punk/metal head/biker in town and as proud as fuck even if im 48 next march, so fuckin what,ROCK HARD, ROCK HEAVY,ROCK ANIMALS
You've the whole gig up, is this all filmed in high definition? I was a massive Stranglers fan back in the day, the last time I watched these post Hugh I wasn't too keen on 'em, although I was pretty pissed, although i can claim to be at the original Raven tour gig in Dublin, now that was fantastic. Watched Hugh and his band @ Rebellion fest in Blackpool about 2-3 years ago and I found him better,,,,oh when I watched Stranglers mk II version there was 2 new members, I see only 1 now?
I saw Killing Joke there about 6 years ago. Loudest & most distorted gig I've ever witnessed. Jah Wobble was supporting with a makeshift backing band that had an excellent hard groove funky guitarist in the line-up. Near the end of their set Wobble thought it highly amusing to turn all the levels up on his bass, onstage & in the auditorium - until he was shattering everyone's eardums. So by the time KJ eventually came on it was unbearably loud to the point where nothing but the bass was discernable. Everything else as in vocals, backing vocals, guitars and drums were swamped under this fucking great distorted swamp that filled the venue. They kind of sorted it out on the mixing desk after a few songs but yeah, The Roundhouse in Camden has notoriously bad acoustics which makes the overall sound appalling.
I remember the Stranglers from 1977 and thought there was no Stranglers after Hugh. Baz has proved me wrong. Hes bloody brilliant.
Saw them in '77 at Brunel Uni..... just superb.

doesn't look like any of them have been turning up too late to any smorgasbords 😀
Very very good ofcourse, but can't help wishing Cornwell came back to the fold...
its lost a bit of its menace but still good job lads
must say the Roundhouse is the worse venue I've been to in the 41 years of going to gigs & that's not just in UK but in Europe & USA.
