chippydick111 - yeh but Madonna had a knack with this one, it was last heard being sung on a plane by an irate manager to 11 Footballers on their way back home from Brazil. btw nice to see the stranglers at the Roundhouse sounding better than ever.
A great and original band which are so good at keeping up with the times and I love their general outlook on life, especially regarding the lies and sleaze in politics : ) !
fact is those classic songs are truly classic, almost everything since 1982 didn't pack the punch or befit the strangler s brand or do justice to their talent. You can sense the band are really enjoying this and it is not just that communion with their past in a sort of celebration that is the reason, but because these are great songs and must be enjoyable to play
This band put the Legend in Legend.Self derivative, innovative, confrontational, abstract, intuitive, accomplished they've got the lot but never capitalised.
@YearZeroRecords I see no toys. I see no pram. The rest of the office is in fits reading this and I'm off out on a call. I wouldn't call you boring at all YearZero. You've been thoroughly entertaining! :)
Hugh left the Stranglers bud ther are stil # members of that time. that means the can brig this song as often as they like. Besides Baz is just as good as Hugh was.
@YearZeroRecords I didn't pretend to like or dislike anybody and never have as that would be rather shallow don't you think? What part of my post did you take as a personal attack? Talking of which, why does that make me a "naff bucket" whatever that maybe? And please explain why Hugh is using the Stranglers typeface and playing Stranglers songs all over the country nowadays. Didn't at first did he?
@NannyWhip Touché! Yes,shallowness was an unfortunate aspect of my teenage years,as it was for many kids.I was just using it an an analogy for why the stranglers were never the full ticket. Its more than just the music.Naff Bucket = bucket of naffness. Personal attack = the inference of my shallowness. Cornwell is probably using the stranglers font for promotional purposes,to remind saddo stranglers fans that he used to be in them and get them to part some of their cash to go and see him.
@YearZeroRecords Sigh......look, we're all different. What you think is "utter shite", others don't and you'd do well to understand that. This is why the phrase "In my opinion" should be appended to what you write here when you make such a statement. I'm sorry that you had a shallow childhood, a frailty I didn't share but can sort of understand. All the best. End of.
Baz is a true pro and does a neat job but it lacks the Hugh factor but who knows if Hugh would be able to the song justice these days. His music has a more mellow Guardian reader feel to it.
I still feel that although the instrumental execution is very good, the guy's voice lacks a certain class that Hugh had. This guy just sounds like a drunk in a pub.
@marcuslaughton I think he (Cornwell.H)has chose exactly where he wants to be,i.e...not a sad old has been trying to relive his glory yrears in front of a crate load of aging nostalgia junkies trying to relive their lost youth.I mean even back in the day one had to pretend not to like the Stranglers,so how naff are they now!?
Even in the year 2023 this is still a great performance.....I still love it!
That bass from start to finish, fuck me what a bassline.
How anybody can NOT like Baz Warne is beyond me!?!
Damn right dude

The Men in Black are like your favourite football team, some of the players have moved on but the new subs are keeping the music alive.
Wonderfully described. A team of 2 halves
Superb
JJ Base, jesus, speechless.

My dog's name is woggy
Still a powerful track, can not use the word "wog"these days.
Hugh who ??
amen..and i wager its the old songs that remain popular rather than whatever they wrote without hugh
Golly gosh
Hugh left the Stranglers bud ther are stil # members of that time. that means the can brig this song as often as they like. Besides Baz is just as good as Hugh was.
@YearZeroRecords "Had to pretend not to like The Stranglers"
Says it all mate doesn't it?
@YearZeroRecords I didn't pretend to like or dislike anybody and never have as that would be rather shallow don't you think? What part of my post did you take as a personal attack? If you want CLASS go to the Opera.

I saw Hugh performing this song with his band and it didn't sound so good.
far better without Who?
just mince...
I still feel that although the instrumental execution is very good, the guy's voice lacks a certain class that Hugh had. This guy just sounds like a drunk in a pub.
baz is much better than ellis
A very good sound, but it's just not the same without you-know-who..
Embarassing.I used to be embaressed by old hippies, but middle aged Punk/pub rockers are even worse. You wouldn't see hugh cornwell doing this.
I agree, should be a law banning all punk/prog etc performers from performing over the age of say 45. I say that as an OAP
Old punks are not sad. People who grow out of punk and get old and judgemental are sad.
@@TheMrswestbrom Oh No we're Not!......oh yes you fucking are!
