NOTHING beats the 1978 record release version, but this is still well cool and in the groove, especially as it's live. RIP Dave...wow, what a keyboard player this guy was.
One of the greatest, sounded so unique when compared to other keyboard players at the time. You must be happy with how wolves have been this season I imagine?
agreed mate sad indeed, the heart and soul of the band, with us rats for 40 odd yrs, he was unreal, weve been lucky to have seen and heard him so many times, so we must be semi positive,, the man and the band are class, S1V
IN 1977 WHEN I BOUGHT RATTUS,I THOUGHT DAVE GREENFIELD WAS BRILL, NOW 35 YEARS LATER I CAN HONESTLY SAY HE IS THE BEST FANTASTIC DAYS WILL NEVER BE BETTERED
A very sad day, to hear of Dave's passing. I was devastated when I heard. I loved this band. They came to a small venue outside of Toronto back in the early 80's and my mate and I went to see them. We were lucky enough to meet Dave outside of the venue. What a great guy. He chatted to us like we were his friend. My condolences to his family and his friends. RIP you great keyboardist and great human being.
I don't know if I heard he died and I 4got. I'm not kidding, I am a drug addict who also enjoys a wee drink noo and again, I surface every few years but am so sickened by the plc that I dive back under and remember.i fkng loved the band.and loved them on top of the pops.
What a band,Live and they never let each other down once on such a high performance tune,And what a frontman they've got.Just gotta love The Stranglers.
RIP Dave Greenfield. So much talent and thanks to all the band to keep ongoing for so long. This rendition of Walk on By is absolutely spot on. You can take your autotuned trash and 'stuff it up the hole in your culture'.
Flew over from Florida for this gig and had a drink with Dave upstairs after the show. Such a huge loss. There will never be another like him. RIP Dave.
This is an absolute classic.Bert and Hal did some memorable stuff but as a cover this can never be beaten.Cant wait for the 2019 gigs close to home.Hope they dont stop touring ,along with The Lightning seeds also!
I must say this is a very good live version of "Walk on by" sung by Baz Warne. Do Rest In Peace Dave and Jet. I do hope somewhere out of the reaches of our universe that you two band mates are having music sessions together with a few others that we here on earth sadly miss.
Great stuff, Baz has done the stranglers real justice and kept the band as they always should have been , he's taken over where Hugh left off and gave the band new credetials to be back at the top of their game !
I remember buying this single at the time, as it was 6 minutes long the 7 inch single ran at 33. The stranglers were very talented guys , RIP Dave Greenfield.
Such an awesome song in the hands of the stranglers love you all especially Dave Greenfield truly a gifted original musician really sad to hear the news of his passing will always listen to the the stranglers Dave is the Keith emerson and jon lord of punk and new wave he always will be missed
The Stranglers have had a fantastic line up over the years...and with much respect and love to Messrs Black Burnell Cornwell and Warne...the passing of Mr Greenfield was very sad and he is absolutely irreplaceable. What a pair of shoes to fill. I hope someone fancies a crack at it - given the current Pandemic, I can only imagine how emotional it will be for all of us to see the band again live, especially with the loss of Dave. One day we'll be able to do it (hopefully Newcastle 2022 for me! ) but I'm fully expecting to spend the whole time in tears... (of sadness, respect, love & the joy of being able to see the band again). Best wishes all. Ps as an asides i went to Hamburg Fabrik Dec 2019 with 2 of my best mates to see the band...obviously didn't know what was coming next...im so glad we did...i haven't see the lads since...so hoping for everyone's sake we can get back to (the new) normal soon
Sorry Martin, but there is only one cover of this Dionne Warwick classic that "nails it!" And that is the Original Stranglers version of 1978 including Original Strangler Hugh Cornwell.
I first heard this song late at night in August 1978 coming in on medium wave from Radio Luxembourg to West Cork, Ireland. I still remember it fading in and out and just how amazing it was, the beautiful keyboard and guitar solos, JJ's growling bass, and Hugh's pained expressive voice. What a cover version, that goes far beyond the original, which itself was a beautiful song.
Guys-the band continued. For every one fan that hates this fact, there must be a hundred that are happy because I’ve seen every line up, they were all outstanding and every gig was sold out. That’s having 30 odd hits and a string of classic lps in your gunnery as a band, and not just because of one original member that left nearly 30 years ago. Hugh is gone, get over it.
The doors my fave band. My last song I listened to was light my fire and it brought me to walk on by as I think too its the light my fire for the stranglers. These are top 4 in my bands.
I've never been punk or ever really understood why punks bothered. After all, they were about not making an effort for any reason. But the Stranglers have been ever present in my mix tapes and car cassette playlists since the 80s when i bought Rattus Norvegicus. 'Nuff said.
YEAH I GOTTA AGREE..R.I.P. DAVE GREENFIELD....the only punk to get away with a moustache...!!! Sadly missed ...an awesome keyword player ....and one of the best ...p s. I love this song as I love most of them .. SO A BIG UP TO THE STRANGLERS AND TO ALL PUNK'S 🏴🏴🅰️🏴🏴🍺😊💣💥🔥🔥
The world should never forget Dave greenfield he was a brilliant keyboard player and just a really nice person R I P Dave
And we won' t !
Respect to the Man and THE Musician.
What a great cover !
Thank you for sharing.
RIP Dave greenfield. Really excelled on this amongst many others . My favourites the Raven and toiler in the sea.
Agreed, respect is due 👏 🙏 💯 👌
True dat.
Oneof the best Keyboarder, completely underrated ... RIP.
R I P DAVE CANT BELIEVE THAT I WON'T SEE YOU AGAIN, you'll never be replaceable, GENIUS

Dave Greenfield a Master of his craft and never to be forgotten
Thank you Legend 🙏
R.I.P. Dave we have lost one of our best.,
IN 1977 WHEN I BOUGHT RATTUS,I THOUGHT DAVE GREENFIELD WAS BRILL, NOW 35 YEARS LATER I CAN HONESTLY SAY HE IS THE BEST FANTASTIC DAYS WILL NEVER BE BETTERED
Yes. Dave in 1977 was indeed Scophthalmus rhombus

This new front man deserves recognition for helping keep the legend alive..! Even his Telecaster solo on this number is immaculate. AWESOME...!!!!!!!
Yes, but he's NOT HUGH.
And Hugh ain,t Baz
It's called playing someone else's solo verbatim.
Can't believe there's stranglers fans that aren't blown away with the new energy he's brought to the tunes
Omg just heard the the very sad news of DAVE GREENFIELD...
RIP
This is the moment I started to love Baz. That solo is note for note the same as the album... And hes doing it live. Absolute legend.
Epic instrumental sections with remarkable solos most unusual for Punk bands
One of my favorite covers. They really nailed it.
This is the best version I have ever heard the stranglers do... And I have seen them live.. More times than I. Can remember
How much we all forget the bit that holds all this together, Jets drumming on here is second to none...
Ibeg to differ. It was ALL of them together, and Hugh singing was part of that. No diss to the guy singing - he's good, but he's NOT HUGH.
Agree.
Will we ever hear JJ on classical guitar?
What a band,Live and they never let each other down once on such a high performance tune,And what a frontman they've got.Just gotta love The Stranglers.
Just Bloody Amazing....ive seen them every year since 83...never fail to impress
RIP Dave Greenfield. So much talent and thanks to all the band to keep ongoing for so long. This rendition of Walk on By is absolutely spot on. You can take your autotuned trash and 'stuff it up the hole in your culture'.

RIP Mr Greenfield. Absolute genius, never forgotten, always in my 💖, Marky Shaw
R.I.P DG & BD (JB) glad I had the opportunity to meet you both and kudos to BW for giving The Stranglers back their edge.
Brilliant Live version
Flew over from Florida for this gig and had a drink with Dave upstairs after the show. Such a huge loss. There will never be another like him. RIP Dave.
Masterclass in solid musicianship. Flawlwss.
Brilliant, I saw them at the Glasgow Apollo back in 1977, it was awesome, the audience went berserk :-).
This is an absolute classic.Bert and Hal did some memorable stuff but as a cover this can never be beaten.Cant wait for the 2019 gigs close to home.Hope they dont stop touring ,along with The Lightning seeds also!
Brilliant version!
What a version of this maaaaaan,They just get better every time.
R I P Dave, you were the best keyboard player ever, nobody comes close,
Miss Hugh but these guys carry the banner really well .
Absolutely KILLER cut!
I must say this is a very good live version of "Walk on by" sung by Baz Warne. Do Rest In Peace Dave and Jet. I do hope somewhere out of the reaches of our universe that you two band mates are having music sessions together with a few others that we here on earth sadly miss.

OMG! Amazing! Saw them in The Roundhouse in March - wish they played this!
What a lovely jam most enjoyable brilliant journey.
Yess. Absolutely cracking.
Almost as good as the original, still sends shivers😀 close your eyes and listen👍
Great remake of a Classic!
In the original, one of the best organ solos in the history of rock --
by Dave Greenfield
I like it... great version... this band always makes me think of The Doors if they played thru the 70s and 80s
Yes. I’ve always thought this was the Brit version of The Doors too.
@@kenthomson9562 The long version of "Light My Fire."
First band I really ever got into after hearing Peaches on the radio as a spotty teen.
tried to see them every year since - truly great band.
Have this on white vinyl. Class, pure class. RIP DG
great guitar , nailed it,
I remember buying this single at the time, as it was 6 minutes long the 7 inch single ran at 33. The stranglers were very talented guys , RIP Dave Greenfield.
R.I.P Jet & Dave. Got the chance to see them live last march and they still kick hard as ever. Truly the best concert i’ve been in
Such an awesome song in the hands of the stranglers love you all especially Dave Greenfield truly a gifted original musician really sad to hear the news of his passing will always listen to the the stranglers Dave is the Keith emerson and jon lord of punk and new wave he always will be missed

Extraordinary. 🎸🎸🎸🎸👏👏👏👏
Ace. Probably best live version I've heard since the hope & anchor boot!!
The Stranglers have had a fantastic line up over the years...and with much respect and love to Messrs Black Burnell Cornwell and Warne...the passing of Mr Greenfield was very sad and he is absolutely irreplaceable. Great guitar work by Baz! pulled that brilliant Hugh guitar solo off to a T!
Speechless!
Hate to say it but
this lead singer nails it....
well done mate im becoming
a fan again.
Martin Norman
Why ?? The mans tone deaf !
Agreed.
Sorry Martin, but there is only one cover of this Dionne Warwick classic that "nails it!" And that is the Original Stranglers version of 1978 including Original Strangler Hugh Cornwell.
So cool 😎 🎉🎉🎉😊
SeenThe Stranglers live at Wembley with The Who in 1979, great night out
I first heard this song late at night in August 1978 coming in on medium wave from Radio Luxembourg to West Cork, Ireland. I love J.J. Burnel personality! The fight guy! I undertsand that very well!
Rest in peace Dave.
The Quality and Energy of the Keyborder the same as from the Doors the Stil is more than Art ! Rip
His voice is better now than in 1978. Bloody brilliant.
It's a different singer.
What a cover and doppelganger to Light my fire, isn't it ?
Rest In Peace Mr.Dave Greenfield, You created so much beauty in one lifetime.
Best cover
Perfect!
reminds me of the original so it has to be good, love it
Brilliant just saw them in Brisbane
Thanks for the upload. Been looking for a quality version of this song for ages.
That was a good performance from the new guy!
I have their "best of' album. Great stuff from this 80's rocker.
Stranglers going to live as long as you want them to . I think the opportunity to see this line up live is good .
This is the "Light My fire" of the Stranglers.
The doors my fave band. My last song I listened to was light my fire and it brought me to walk on by as I think too its the light my fire for the stranglers. These are top 4 in my bands.
@@louisharwood471 But keep in mind that Walk on By Author was Burt Bacharach not Stranglers. A Great Rendition anyway.
I've never been punk or ever really understood why punks bothered. After all, they were about not making an effort for any reason. But the Stranglers have been ever present in my mix tapes and car cassette playlists since the 80s when i bought Rattus Norvegicus. 'Nuff said.
RIP Dave.🖤🐀🖤
I like them. for over 40 years now
God bless Dave!!❤
This version is quality!!! Baz has got Nothing On Hugh, Although this version is one of the best I've Ever heard Baz does a great job here.
His singing sucks but his guitar playing is excellent. Should stick to guitar.
Dave G told me that this is the best line up The Stranglers have ever had.
I saw them back in the day and more recently. I agree with Dave.
Don't be an idiot.
You are deranged. X
i had a dream a while ago that i met dave greenfield and started to cry..such a pansy I am. :D
Funking brilliant
Middle section completly sounds like "Light My Fire" of the Doors, but it still kick ass!
