- A new video obtained by the Austin Herald-Statesman newspaper shows the haunting moments inside the Uvalde school shooting. The footage shows the 18-year-old shooter entering the school and police waiting 77 minutes before taking him down. However, investigative reporter Tony Plohetski is receiving intense backlash for leaking the video. Several family members of the victims are angry that they did not get to see the video first. Others say the criticism is misdirected.
Never understand why people would be mad at the leaker. It shows exactly why we need change in police policies. Change doesnt come when you hide the problem.

The guy who leaked the video deserves a medal. The world would never know how incompetent and cowardly the police force were. Parents of victims should have been enraged against the police for not doing their duty instead of blaming the wrong person.

This what real journalism is. Taking risks, stirring the pot, and providing the truth when it’s trying to be obscured. Props to the investigative reporter and the news channel willing to share this. We need to see this incompetence in order to elicit change.

The fact that one of the officers is reported to be a teachers husband and the fact that she got shot and he didn’t run to her is appalling.
He must have an affair in the side and kind of maybe glad she's gone, there's no other explanation for his behaviour

The husband of one the teachers was being HELD BACK from saving the children and his wife. His gun was taken by his fellow officers while attempting to save all of them.
Actually there was vids of that officer wanting to go in but was shut down to to his superrior telling him not to go in and has a lower ranking officer he had to obey his superior

I don’t understand why there’s an issue with the leaker. He released raw footage and made sure the clips couldn’t be edited from today (Wednesday) to Sunday. He did a brave thing.
He removed the screams and Audio, if anything the shooting may have already finished and it was a stand off.

I’m in the military and that’s what we do all the time. Go in the actions, yet when we get out the military they won’t even hire us. However, they will hire these cowards. That’s so shameful and disgraceful but I’m not surprised

this is absolutely disgusting. being a cop means taking your own life for others and taking risks. the fact that the police even sanitized his hands like nothing was happening when those babies were getting gunned down is horrible. The "authorities" hid the truth for over 7 weeks and showed no real signs of letting it out. I honestly do NOT trust them. Very sad for the families, but I'm glad the truth came out.

They need to not censor it.. it needs to be heard and seen by the elected officials and lobbyists that endorse easy access to powerful firearms.. I'm a 20+ year firearms owner and I wouldn't mind giving up some ease of access as opposed to everyone gets an AR and a Glock 17 with a 33 round mag... I've been shooting for a long time and I've seen plenty of legal gun owners that probably shouldn't have firearms.. maybe a weekend safety and proficiency course along with a mental eval and then a shall issue permit... that idea does not infringe on the 2nd amendment whatsoever..and I know I'm in the minority as far as legal firearms owners but I know that more guns, easier and higher cap mags equals more and deadlier shootings.. not hard to figure out.. but almost everyone in my firearms peer group will do mental gymnastics to believe what I said isn't true.. but it is, more guns easier equals more shootings..

They're angry because, the leak was literally used for views and content for news / social view...that's the reality of the situation.. because if the news person actually cared he would of shown it to them first and then showed it to the world but he didn't. And I'm guessing he didn't even notified them on it either , they mostly found out from someone watching the news. Apart from that ...they wouldn't have really known what was in the video that has to deal with seeing the guy that killed their kids....it's still sensitive for them so try to be understanding with what they have to go through and deal with for the rest of their lives

Each time something comes out, it looks worse for the Uvalde PD. That's why they didn't want this to get out. I understand being scared but this is pure cowardice. You volunteered to be an officer. The black woman is Whoopi Goldberg from The View and the woman crying, child was killed in this shooting. Whoopi stated that if the parents were going to see the video, don't leak it give them a chance to see it, then release it. The mother said screw you to the journalist because they were supposed to watch it but it was made public without their knowledge causing them more pain.

What always got under my skin, long before these reports had come out, and was how much quickly the police had been to congratulate themselves on a job well done. Not even a full day had passed, and the police were on camera talking to a reporter about how many lives they had saved and how well they had performed in that moment while hardly speaking a word of empathy or compassion to the families of these kids.

The parent that said the “leak” was appalling, was speaking as someone who just experienced something traumatic. Every new info from the shooting is going to be appalling for them but one day, i hope, she will be thankful that this footage where the cops waited for 77minutes twiddling their thumbs before actually doing something, was shared with the world.

This is truly unfortunate. How do you wait 77 minutes and be scared of a BOY with a rifle and your excuse is you were afraid of the rifle? What is the point in your career at this point? A police officer is supposed to PROTECT us against dangerous situations by putting themselves at risk to save others and these were CHILDREN. I can’t imagine the pain of these parents and loved ones who had to watch it because it is heartbreaking.

@@brandib2821 training period is a major problem with the police in this country as a whole. The highest training period here is 44 weeks. I'm places like Germany the average is 144 weeks. The fact of the matter is none of these people know what they're doing it shows and innocent children died because of it. I'm not a cop and never experienced a situation like this. But I'd like to think with ballistic shielding, a bulletproof vest, handguns / assault rifles, tons of backup and hearing little children scream would sure as hell convince me to take cover behind a wall and shoot at the shooter, even if it's to distract him from the children. It's absolutely disgusting what those cops did.
That clip of the shooter walking into the school and that little boy running away and hearing the gunfire is *chilling.* Literally made me sick to my stomach.
Forensic details state that some of the young victims were basically decap*tated by the gun fire.
This is just hard to reconcile even from the fringes.

@@axi5724 I'm a parent and I have no desire to die anytime soon, but there's no question I would risk my life to protect children, even if they weren't my own. I know this because I have before.
I've been wanting to become a police officer because I want to be able to save lives, protect those who cannot protect themselves. My anger for those who would take innocent lives is immeasurable. I would gladly give my life for the life of someone's child. Despicable.

what really bothers me the most is that the officers outside the building were tackling the parents trying to save their kids inside the school, one mom even went in to save her 2 kids. This whole situation is both sad and sickening.
Because parents doing the job they were supposed to be doing might make the citizens rethink their ridiculous budget and they couldn't have that could they?

If you’ve been trained to shoot someone for years and the fist thing you shoot is a kid. Yikes, probably some emotional effects from that.
Not only that but they violated their own rule. Under Texas law enforcement during an active shooting you're supposed to get in there even if there's no back up to end the shooting as quickly as possible. They had back up and STILL WAITED.

I disagree i think all information should be released ASAP to everyone. Who ever leaked the footage was doing it for the people not for fame or money. We deserve to fkn know.

@@Astelch precisely. Im from canada and found out 5 years ago when police killed a 14 year old boy in my town that not only do they not have body cams, they dont even have cameras on there cruisers. The mother wanted to see the footage when the police said there was none. We got almost 50k signatures on a petition to have our officers outfitted with cameras and they still said no. These officers break the law 20 times a day.
I always wondered why we never saw the video footage of the inside of the school in the beginning….now we know why. If it wasn’t for someone who leaked it, we would have never known what really happened

That’s likely why he was on his phone. Checking for a text / call desperately from his wife. Apparently he’s the cop who tried to run but the other officers stopped him and threatened with detainment. His wife died in that school.
I would have gone in without a gun if I had to. I wouldn't have waited for permission to go. Nothing would stop me from attempting to save my wife and the innocent children. Maybe I am different, I am a veteran. Those cops were more worried about themselves than those children and teachers. Shameful cowards!

They took too long plain and simple. Maybe nothing will come of from this horrific event, maybe the cops won't face any consequences for their failures. I understand the parents wanting to see this video before it being released to the public, but he did the right thing to show it to the world. It's very different hearing it took 77 minutes, and seeing how it played out. This is truly horrifying watching, and that's without the screams. Arriving after 3 minutes, but standing around knowing an active shooter is ending countless of children's lives is truly despicable. I can guarantee unarmed civilians would have done more than this useless police department (who was also fully armed and in a big crowd) had they had the opportunity.
And I also wonder how many of those children could have been saved had they acted as soon as they got there instead of possibly laying there bleeding out! Horrifying video watching those cops do nothing for so long!

It's truly heartbreaking that they stood by while kids were screaming not a hallway down from them. Originally I was taught to believe the police were here to protect us in times of need, but that didn't happen here. There could have been far fewer victims if they only did their job right.

I’ve never heard or seen firefighters refusing to go into a burning building because they feared for their lives. Or doctors and nurses refusing to help patients that could get them sick. Being a police officer is the only job I know where you can decide not to do your job because of fear and not only remain employed, but still be viewed as a hero. You signed up to be a police officer so you have to be brave or you chose the wrong profession. I don’t care how scary it is. Suck it up and do your job or find another. What an embarrassment to our country. Sure, each state and district has their own governing bodies but I can’t believe there’s video footage of American law enforcement officers allowing children to be literally gunned down while they stood back, WAITING, safely out of harm’s way.
Whoever was making the decisions (to not do their job or allow the group of armed and armored men to do their job) should be prosecuted for refusing to serve and protect.
Doctors and nurses can be prosecuted for harmfully or fatally administering the wrong medicine to a patient even if it’s irrefutably an accident. How’s this any different?

The police doesn’t have any legal obligation to protect anyone. Castle Rock v. Gonzales and Deshaney v. Winnebago County established this.
