* DEER HUNTING DURING A HURRICANE * Saddle Hunting in Florida

  • The hurricane ended up causing a drop in temperatures, which was good for deer movement. So we went hunting with our native Florida friend, Ryan, on some private land and I filled my first Florida deer tag with my bow from a saddle.. but the shot was not ideal. I'm thankful we were able to recover the deer without any issues.
My heart goes out to all of those affected by hurricane Ian. To donate, visit:

Pro tip on sealing. If you wrap the cut in cling wrap and THEN seal it, it will keep almost twice as long in the freezer. Learned that working with a wild game butcher in MT. I enjoy your videos. You remind me of my daughter and I miss her very much. Keep doing what you do!

My Granny's cure for poison ivy and poison oak...
Get Cream of Tartar out of your spice rack. Pour about a tablespoon into a small container and add water to make a paste. Smear that paste on your affected areas before bedtime, then go to sleep. In the morning, the rash will be dried up and then stay dry and and away from the "Stuff"!

Glad the storm passed you by for the most part. Poison Oak/Sumac/Ivy can be a pain. If you know you have come in contact with the stuff, there's a common plant that grows in wet, sandy soil called Jewelweed, or Spotted Touch Me Not that when crushed, and the resulting juice applied to the areas that came in to contact with the irritant, will keep it from taking, for lack of a better term. This must be done before the rash crops up. Congratulations on the deer.

Yeah agree, not the most optimal shot. Die die easier than bucks in less yardage. Your team played it well. There is no “wait until tomorrow “ in our 95 degree heat. You put the boot leather down with or without dogs and are forced to find it quickly or it spoils in a few hours. No choice. More dogs the better to run it and circle it etc to find it dead or alive.

Take a cup of oatmeal and put it in an old sock and tie it off. Take a hot bath and scratch the heck out of it with the sock. The milky oatmeal soaks into the open pores in your skin and will dry it out faster than just dealing with it. They make poison oak soap as well and Technu works pretty good as well. If yiu have manzanita bushes in your area, make a tea out of the pink flowers and/or put it in a spray bottle. The manzanita is an old fire fighter trick that helps relieve the itch. Good luck.

The reason it's so hard for anyone to get ride of poison ivy or oak. All soaps and shampoos have something in them to not dry out your skin. So the old calamine lotion trick doesn't even touch your skin.
To get old school soap you have to buy it from a pharmacy area. One of the brands I use is lever 2000. Good luck.
